Xperia arc s overclock! - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if any of you maybe know whats the upper limit for overclocking my Lt18i... its at 1.4 Gh atm, was at 1.0 Gh until a few days ago...
At which level do you guys have it...?
I read that it can go up to 2.0 Gz but i dont know how smart that is...

Stock 1.4, good enough. OC doesn't give any big boost, so it is quite pointless.

1.8 GHz and up is dangerous.
My tip: 1.5 or 1.6 Ghz

Since performance scales pretty linearly with the CPU frequency, OC'ing from 1.4 to 1.6 GHz means a 14 % performance boost. I'd say that's pretty significant.

That's what you think. But it really isn't that.
Go try playing a HD game on the phone, how much difference do you really see between 1.4 Ghz and 1.6 Ghz?

Certainly I won't see any if it is GPU bound. But how often this is the case, I can't tell. I've never played any game on Android. All CPU-dependant apps will gain a 14% performance increase.
I just want app-switching, browsing and all the general stuff to be smooth, so I've OC'd it a little. It doesn't even hurt the battery life (unless you're running at 100% CPU all the time), so why not.

Highest is 2.16, me and my mate OC'd to 2.16 - 2.15 with seperate fan coolers around our phones (35% performance boost)

How fast can the desire go ???

The hd2 can go up to 1.5ghz I know so why can't the desire, you may ask 'why does it need to get faster its fast anyway ' well that's because I want to see how far it can go. ages ago our kernels were going up to 1.3ghz and surprisingly it was stable for me. Any answers

This is very true not only that there is the stresses that your ROM and apps are taking on the CPU some will be OC'd to be extremely fast but never actually use that amount of CPU speed so will always be stable however some users will take theirs to the limit and will only remain stable at much less CPU speed.
It's pretty much the same with all processors but who really wants to fry their processor just checking how fast they can make it run. If 1.3Ghz is stable for you then that's all good bump it up yourself once your cpu burns out you know it can't go that fast

998Mhz does me just fine on my Desire. I used to run 1.51Ghz on my DHD but all I got from it was an awesome Quadrant score and a piss poor battery life. For day to day use I really don't notice the difference from 998Mhz to 1190Mhz with a HAVS/BFS kernel on my Desire.
my amoled went up to 1300 and my wife slcd wont go over 1030(i menan it will but any stronger activity will crash it)
2.5ghz overclocked with a droid x?
how good was the battery life on that?
I think 998 MHZ is enough for my Desire. 1.5 GHZ is nothing to me.

Defy Overclocking

Hello people
Today I bought my new defy and I'm testing the possibilities of the device.
After some misgivings, I've made a progressive overclock and hit the 3GHz mark.
Someone has already gone beyond that and know if the device remains stable? Here it is running at 3GHz for an hour and not warmed more than 1 º C and not spent too much power. And yes, he is set to keep the clock all the time.
Did someone made this as well?
Edit: I can't post the Screenshots 'cause I'm a new user. If someone are interested in it, I can send it by pm.
I went to 1ghz and no further... you must have money to burn (or phones to burn!)
The phone didn't overheat. Even after one hour at 3GHz, the temperature did not rise more than 1 º C.
I wonder if anyone else has ventured within the limits of overclocking.
Even at 3GHZ, there's nothing gain as no apps or games need that power to run at the moment. All apps and games would run smooth even at 1GHZ. Possibility at this 3GHZ is only a fried processor if the phone won't do the auto shut down.
Sent from my awesome Moto Defy: Stock Rooted Gingerbread 2.3.3 - XDA Premium
It's still on and working without overheating, but I noticed the needless of this clock
I'll set the clock for 1.5ghz.
What rom do you recommend to me? I'm using Cyanogenmod rc 1.5.
3GHz is impossible, over 1.5GHz CPU can't work, you can set 10GHz, but will be exactly the same as 1.5GHz
May it be 3.0ghz only on the display but no in the system?
I'm new on this phone and don't know so much about it
3GHz? Hehe!
Yes, on screen it's shows 3GHz. But, like bvbfan said, I think it's only on screen and not the true frequence of the clock.
What program I can use to check this?
I'm using CyanogenMod Rc 1.5
Im running my Defy on 1 Ghz for ages now.
Never had a problem and i think going any further will not be healthy for your phone especially when you increase the vsel over 58
however you make it happen, it is fake. simply because of no heat. it is not really 3GHz, just a number you see on screen. run Quarant and see if it is really 3GHz
The current kernel won't let you overclock anywhere above 1.3 ghz. Its ARMv7 CPU limit I believe.

Governer: Interavtive
Current ROM: CM11 by Quarx 2

It is stable. No heating issues whatsoever

Overheating

I've OC 1,8 GHz... I know that when playing games, phone's temperature raises, but when I'm playing NFS HP it almost burns me. What can I do with that? Does custom ROM may reduce the overheating?
And which ROM is the best?
reduce your overclock to 1.4ghz...really no need to go above 1.4ghz currently
yeah, but with 1,8 GHz is the best score in Antutu...
So in the end its just about benchmark score..

I'm running the Titanium Kernel build#4 and occasionally take it up to 1.7GHz; the handset does get extremely hot (battery temps were somewhere in the range of 50C-60C, I think) so I never OC that high anymore. It probably cant be very good for it
As for "best" ROMs, it really does depend on what you prefer, but flashing the Titanium Kernel and running the Lionheart governor seems to give the best performance and battery life at a 1.4GHz OC, for me anyways.

That is true. The CPU can withstand ~100°C but not your hand. Standard phones has plastick fascia, so you are not sensing the heat that much as in our aluminium V. The phone can withstand that much, the question is how long...
As for me, I use the phone at stock 1Ghz, and for me it is more than enough.

[Q] R800x, Post your Overclock CPU speeds below....

OK, so I currently have my PLAY set to 1.2ghz. My first android phone I OCd from 600mhz to 1ghz and one day while playing a game I heard a loud pop noise, then my phone shut off and that was that... toast. So I have been extremely leary of overclocking now. I am aware there are users who have OCd their phone to 1.4+
My question is how safe is when I use No frills to OC is it ramping up the volts to get that extra power. Also according to the Snapdragon layout it lists the S2 in our phones as capable of 1-1.5ghz... does this mean I could technically go up to 1.5 and be OK? I have a large 3600mha mugen battery, so thats not an issue, but what I am afraid of is popping my phones brains out...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)
Look at Snapdragon S2 section
MSM8255
Also, it sayd for phones that use the above chip.. GSM only for Xperia PLAY... if that is the case does that mean R800x users are on a differerent chip? And if so what chip is it? Thanks in advance.

We're on the MSM8655 instead of the 8225. iirc, the difference is that it's cdma oriented as opposed to gsm
Each chip is different in what it can handle, so your best bet is to test it out, slowly. When your system starts to act funky, step down the voltage/speed levels.
Pax
Ps. Tried running mine @ 2 ghz once and was promptly rewarded with a random reboot. It takes some time, but with mine I've figured out our can run 1.6 with no issues (I tend to keep it at to stock levels because my battery sucks )

K, thank you Pax for the feedback.
Just thought I would open this to everyone on R800x, interested if people could point there OC status below.
Mine is still on 1.2ghz. with Performance and BFQ
Highest I can go is 1.6, but I keep it around stock or slightly underclocked, with SetCPU profiles that increase to 1.2 for games and internet apps. smartassv2 and sio for governor and scheduler.
I heard that underclocking can end up reducing battery life over time. Is there truth to this or is it just a myth?

it really depends, im using CM10 on 134-1024 Mhz. Most the games are smooth. Its safe to OC up to 1.4 GHz imo. 1.6 GHz and 1.8 GHz might damage over time and a lot of usage at max frequency
OC is always bad and dangerous, no matter what clocks you use.
Besides, OC doesn't give any major performance boost, you can barely see it.

Why bother overclocking something that is outdated specification wise? And with an single core, the performance boost is non-existant because the core will be driven hard and generate heat and voila.. RIP!

It's not a matter of hearing it from someone. It will definitely happen if you overclock your phone since increasing the maximum frequency from the design limit will fry your phone.
