I tried to install a new rom onto my xperia arc s. I followed the instructions and flashed the boot.img and cleared the caches etc. However, everytime I try to install the zip file, the assert failed and status 7 error always shows up. Can anyone guide me through this? Thank you very much.

I get same error
Hi Even I get same error after installing the .nbh and then installing the system from boot menu. I tried installing .nbh from both methods as mentioned in the guide on how to replace windows mobile with android either through ativesync or by putting .nbh at sdcard root. Both end up with this error.
After installing the system I quit with option 10 and then it proceed to normal android boot but then it fails with the message mentioned above.
I tried both Krazy-Killa's kernel as well as one from valentine 1.0 build but same error. Not sure what is wrong. Are those nbh filed are not self contained? Do I need to install some other thing along with that?
Thanks in advance,
Nishant
I think that the message follow the guides in atools help was clear but...
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/HowToInstallWithAtools
worked
After following all the instructions pointed in the atools method and increasing the system memory size to full (system size increses to 160MB after downloading the modules as pointed on the page) I could install the android. I'm running into other issues but those are build related and not installation related. thanks for the help.
I am kinda new to rooting and flashing so i am in need of some assistance.
My goal is to flash a new firmware on my xperia s and have it rooted.
I am not quite sure which steps i need to take in which order to do that. I would be very greatfull if someone could tell me the steps i have to take.
I will look for the guides here but i need to know what when to do.
I can unlock my bootloader, and i'm running a .55 version.

First of all don't panic!
Grab any .55 firmware and install it with FlashTool, when installation is finished don't turn on the phone, disconnect it and hold Volume UP button so it boots in Fastboot mode, then in FlashTool click FLASH then select fastboot and press Flash Kernel > flash this one (Download) When it's over just turn on your device as normal and you will have .55 with Root & Recovery. Good Luck
BEFORE INSTALLING KERNEL UNRAR THE PACKAGE YOU NEED ONLY .elf File.
Just Select elite.elf when choosing kernel to flash.
Attached KERNEL is by RaymanFX.
Thank your for the quick answer.
Do i first need to unlock my bootloarder?
Which firmwares can i install with that kernel?

Hello @schpongo,
I'd Certainly Help You Out.
First of AlL, What You Need Is
1. Unlocked Bootloader - http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
2. Rooted Device - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133063
3. Installing CWM Recovery. I prefer RecoverX - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227
And As My Friend In Above Post Said. Do Not Panic. It Takes Patience. And lots of waiting time.
Till one process is complete do not try to unplug or close anything. Its easy when you do things very calmly.
Ok Now for Available ROMS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950706
If you require suggestions regarding flashing roms I'd advice you to start with TEAM FXP ROMS - Cyanogen Mod 10

I Solved the Problem partly by using the flash tool to get back the stock os.
You can use the Flash tool to flash the boot.img file in the phone. It's really simple then manually doing it. I am on phone so can not provide you the link. Please use the search button on how to flash boot. Img using flash tool. Looping in boot is because the boot.img was not flashed properly. Use the flash tool to do it. I too had the same problem when I first flashed but soon found out the problem. Reply back if everything works..

CM 10 is a really good Rom with Stable recovery.
You can even download other ROMS of Build NOZOMI - (Code Name For Xperia S) eg Slim Bean build 5 Nozomi JB 4.2.2
And directly flash it from CWM recovery.

Yes, Unfortunately For This Purpose There is A Need for a little knowledge of Titanium Back Up.
It Will Bring All Your Settings Messages And Apps Back Without Any Modifications. Or loosing it.
The Reason : Every Time You Flash A New Rom
You Always ,
1 Whip Cache Partition
2 Cache /data /sysytem
3 Dalvik Cache
This Removes All The Apps.

http://theunlockr.com/2012/08/29/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-an-android-device/

Hey, I just went from stock rom to the CM 11 rom and noticed that ant+ isn't working anymore. Now I think that the CM 11 is heavenly compared to the Stock rom, but as an active runner I would like it if my ant+ hrm could be working.
Is there going to be support for Ant+ in the future or should I go seek for another rom?
4.1.2.

What Error 7 did you get (status 7 means only that it didn't working)?
I got:
Error set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed (status 7)
And this helped me

Official CM10 for Acro S had CWM as recovery. Most unofficial CM11 roms have TWRP as their recovery. You just need to grab a copy boot.img from the zip file of the rom you wish to flash and flash that via fastboot first:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
After rebooting, you then flash the full rom zip itself.
I advise asking your rom's developer beforehand to confirm that the boot.img does includes a recovery. Just in case...
Thanks a tonne guys will try and let you'll know asap

Flash just recovery, first reboot in recovery and flash cm12, and skip the rooting process and you will be fine
