Anyone out there getting fed up with sprint horrible - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

We have the latest smart phones but cant use to its fulk capabilities because network is horrible anyone else getting ready to leave sprint it makes me mad that i have full bars and i cant not use web
Im on my SG3

Seeing as I just came from T mobile it is amazing to see how drastically different the networks are. I will tell you that the LTE is pretty amazing (I live in Kansas City) the few times I have been able to get it so it gives me some confidence that it will catch up pretty soon.

I used to have tmobile and it was pretty crappy im in chicago and i hope this network issue speeds up cuz its getting annoying

You knew this before you bought the SIII. Fortunately for me, I do live in one of the launch cities for their LTE. While it is still spotty where I live, I am seeing the 3G boost. I guess it's a matter of where you live. If the 4G speeds i've gotten is an indication, where it has tested as high as 28 megs, a little more patience will go a long way.

I think he is one of those never happy customers.
Complained about TMobile, complains about sprint. IF he went to att he would find something to complain about them as well.
If your unhappy with it do something about it other then letting us know your not happy.
IF you need the number to Sprint let me know, i will google it for you..
Im on Sprint. I am patient enough to wait out the issues and am finally seeing some improvement..

Sprint has best price and best phone selection.

Been with Sprint for more then 8 years...I've had my issues but they aren't enough for me to complain about and I can do everything on my phone with their 3G service.

If you posted this from your phone, logged onto this forum and made a thread. Is that not using the full capacity of the service provider on your mobile device?

Most people here have been with sprint prior to coming to the S3 and we just deal with it mostly because of price and unlimited data. It's pretty well known that sprint doesn't have the best coverage (could change in the future) and if this is a deal breaker for anyone then that person should've researched more before signing on.

If it's that terrible pay the etf and move on. Complaining isn't going to do a damn thing about it.

If you are unhappy go fight with Sprint and tell them to waive your etf she to no service at your house.

If you're near Chicago it may be an issue with the pending upgrade to LTE.
I just came to Sprint from Verizon because Verizon is too expensive and because they (and the handset manufacturers whose phones they sell) lock everything down so tightly. I really got fed up with them when they claimed that the OG Droid (which I owned) was not capable - from a hardware standpoint - of wireless tethering when my Droid was rooted and I was actually tethering. Sprint's coverage is currently not as good as Verizon, but it is cheaper, it is unlimited data, and I think it will be much better coverage when the upgrade to LTE is done and they "turn on the switch." Until the upgrade is done why don't you just quietly "ride out the storm."
That being said, I get 4G about 80% of the time and am getting about 15M up and 1.9M . Maybe you can look forward to that.

Sprint does do things as- backwards,
Sprint was the First with the Best 4G device available, the Evo 4G, but most customers never saw Wimax to take full advantage of the Evo's capabilities.
I didn't see Wimax until over a year later, and I was one of the fortunate ones
All the promises by Sprint regarding Wimax coming to your city soon, were emptier than a pot full of gold left in the middle of Times Square at High Noon.
Now we have LTE, well most really don't, at least for now.
I do hope that LTE is not rolled out like Wimax Never was.
Hey, I got my S3 without LTE availability yet. Was this a smart choice? Probably not. But I like the S3 if it begins to have the ability to make calls without constantly dropping them.
Hopefully the LF9 modem takes care of this.
Yet I digress.
As I said, Sprint's track record has been poor regarding rolling out Networks. I will be happy if LTE proves me wrong........

You do know that Sprint is currently in a total rebuild of the Chicago system with the Network Vision/LTE upgrade. According to S4GRU.com they are about 40% built, with an estimated deployment of September 2012. When they rebuild a market there are disruptions.
I, on the other hand am in a market not even scheduled for LTE yet.

My 4g inside my house on first floor also sucks but verizon 4g also sucked at my house. In fact verizon dropped occasional calls and I needed to get a network extender. Sprint's network will get better but will probably need lte phone in the future to take advantage of it.
Try the wimax tweaks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265990&page=6
Basically lets wimax latch on to a weaker signal

Feel free to leave any carrier whose network is not performing to your standards.
I haven't even had the chance to experience 4G yet here in my area (not available yet). Still having to pay the $10 a month "premium"data fee though.
That's what truly sucks!

Yes, it sucks but the $10 premium is even for smartphones that do not have 4G.
Sprints 3g speeds have been pretty bad. Anyone I meet on other carriers have like 3mbps while mine has like 1mbps. One bar of 4g signal and I am at 3mbps, two or three bars and I am at 6mbps or more.
Sprint 4g works pretty well for me up and down the east coast anyway in major cities. I travel a lot and spend a lot of time in airports and hotels near airports. The only place I find Sprint to kind of suck is oddly New York.
I had T-mobile which worked most places but their service sucked for speed especially at my home, solid bars but only .4 Mbps with whereas I get 1 Mbps 3g and 8 Mbps 4G with Sprint. Almost as fast as my Comcast cable internet.
Anyway YMMV. Probably VZW is the "best" but their data plans suck with 2Gb limit and they're expensive as hell with poor customer service. Instead of complaining how about doing a little research, ask friends, and take advantage of the trial period and figuring out which works best for you in your area.

So are our phones LTE capable???

I was told by a sprint employee they were, then here that they're not. Then I see this in a thread...
reddragon72 said:
Same issue in Houston two days ago. Wife's Evo 4G had no issues connecting right next to me so I knew it wasn't a tower issue, but my phone or the plan. Called Sprint and talked to three people. The last person I got was in the 4G department. They found that the system is going through upgrades right now for LTE, but he would not elaberate due to privacy concerns... or something like that. He said that my phone had been removed from the Wimax channel to the LTE channel. Since that happened the towers were ignoring my request for an IP. He said the phone is either setup for Wimax or LTE but not for both. 0_o So I asked him how to setup the phone for LTE and he said "there is no need yet since LTE is not open to the public, but only in the testing phase" So I asked... exactly "So can I call back and have my phone switched from Wimax to LTE when LTE is opened up to the public in Houston?" He said "Yes"?!?!?!?!
What does that mean??? He knows all about my phone and what it can do so why did he say that?
Also he mentioned that this seems to be happening to all Epic 4G Touch phones since they are listed in the Sprint system as LTE capable. So that is why people in Q1/Q2 LTE area's are having the issue.
Call sprint and get the 4G people on the phone to reprop your phone from LTE channel back to Wimax.

No they are not. Do not always listen to a Sprint employee 90% of them are flat out stupid. We will not have LTE support. There IS however a SPH-L710 that passed WiFi certs a few weeks back. My guess is that it's the SGS2 but with LTE support and WiMax removed.
Asking a Sprint call center employee to explain or elaborate on a technical detail of their network is like asking a McDonalds counter person to explain how they raised their cows.
They'll give you their 4th grade education mixed with overheard and misunderstood watercooler rumor as fact. "Could you turn off your phone, and pull out the battery? Now restart it! See its fixed, just like our network! Thanks for calling Sprint! Is there anything I can do for you?"***
Oh, btw, if for some reason our phones were capable, it would have been a selling point since release. So, sadly, no.
And if you google it, there are some people talking about tear-downs, and the visible chips, and how those chips are not LTE capable....
(*** btw, not a Sprint hater. Or even a Sprint employee hater. just a call-center, script-reading, poor misinformed souls hater. please don't attempt to answer my question if you don't actually know the answer just to boost your solution resolution percentages)

I will look for the Doc about this, but I did read some investor fact sheets for sprint transfer to LTE. The big selling point for big investors to put money into sprints LTE was a wider spectrum that would include the bands needed for wimax phones to receive 4g in a sprint LTE only area.
They use a similar system in France, China and other countries where the gov stepped in and funded a super fast wireless broadband system. Are phones would still not be able to roam on LTE but on Sprints network we would still benefit from LTE.

Would that benefit not come from users going to LTE and getting off (for the most part) of the 3G however. If Sprint is in fact doing things somewhat like Verizon is most 3G data is being offloaded (iirc) to the LTE band which frees up 3G.

[Q] Switching from ATT Galaxy S III to T-Mobile Galaxy S III (DC Metro)

ATT is screwing me by refusing to carry forward my unlimited data plan to LTE and has repeatedly tried to force me onto a capped plan.
I saw a newspaper ad today (archaic - I know!) saying T-Mo has an unlimited everything plan for this phone for $90 and it's tempting. I'm hoping to sell or swap my existing GS3.
Is there anything I should be aware of?
Also, what is T-mo's take on this plan if I try to tether?
Thanks.
I'm pretty sure you can just swap sims? Tethering has been beaten to death on these forums. I'd take a few minutes to search and ask your questions in those threads if they haven't been covered yet.

I think I already made it clear I anticipated getting a new S3. I know that they aren't fully compatible for 3/4G/LTE.
Re: Tethering. I though this was a new plan - it appears to be as much in the advert.
They block tethering on unlimited data plans but rooted tethering might work. I haven't tried it yet.

They are trying to kill teather with updates. I tried T-Mobile with still having my main line on att. Speeds were either really fast or dead slow. I'd rather just stick with att because it's decently fast wherever I go.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I just recently re-upped with T-Mobile. They have two types of plans out right now. They have what they call the classic plan and I can't remember what their new plans are called.
Anyway, with the classic plan you get the phone subsidized, but the plan itself is pretty expensive. On the other hand if you get their newer plan, you pay full price for the phone, but the plan itself is dirt cheap (cheapest I can find among the major carriers). While $600 for a phone might seem like a lot, they only require a $200 down payment and since you're starting a new contract you'll probably get $100 or so knocked off. The rest of the price of the phone is spread throughout the first 20 months of your contract.
Applying a little basic finance and assuming you have a decent stock portfolio, I estimated my cost of my Galaxy S3 at around $350 and my monthly fees went down from $230-250 to its current $140-150.
Don't know much about T-Mobile signal in your area, but if you can manage a consistent 3G I'd say it's worth the cost savings.
I would tell you that you will be very happy with t-mobile vs att, I did the switch my self and I couldn't be any happier, my data is very fast and yes it is faster than att and I get 4g 95% of the time in my area, my brother still have att with the s3 and my phone is way faster than his, on a speed test mine gets between 17000-22000 kbs consent vs his the highest he gets is about 5000-8000

T-mobile lied to me

I have been with T-Mobile in Bloomington, IL for over 7 years now. The only thing I have ever complained about is data speeds in my area. So, when I read the following press release from T-Mobile last year, I was super excited.
http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/articles/new-4g-markets-nov2011
In that release dated Nov 16th 2011, it says
"T-Mobile 4G markets where HPSA+ 42 service is launching today:
Bend, Medford and Corvallis, Ore.; Benton Harbor, Mich.; Bloomington, Champaign–Urbana and Springfield, Ill.; Columbus, Ga.; Hagerstown, Md.; Montgomery, Ala; Yuba City, Calif."
So, I have not seen a difference in speeds at all over the past year with the following phones, HTC Senseation, Galaxy Nexus GSM, HTC One S and the Galaxy S3.
I have never gotten anything above 3Mb anywhere in town. Now, when I call T-Mobile to inquire about my slow speeds, they tell me only 3G is offered in my area and that the speeds I am getting are consistent with there network. FYI my status tells me that my Mobile Network Type is HSPAP:15
Attached is a screenshot of my typical speeds. Am I getting ripped off on data speeds?

I would call customer service and politely ask to speak to tech support. Let them know your issue and ask to speak to a supervisor. When the supervisor gets on the phone tell them you want this to keep getting escalated until you get an answer.
I had a similar problem and it took two weeks to finally get anywhere.

I have though the same thing, but Bloomington is a pretty small city and I have driven all over town doing speed test in the past. Plus, when I have called them, I am told that there is no 4G anywhere close to me. Does that make sense if my network type is HSPAP:15?
Your speeds are up to par with what I get. Hell they're better. I would say everything is normal. T-Mobile has very weird and spotty service. I'm hoping the reframing of the towers will help.

Your problem was completely different. You had towers down in your area.
OP, you need to realize that every single phone you listed aside from the One S and S3 are NOT capable of HSPA+42. So that is your first problem. The second problem is that wherever you are in Bloomington, an HSPA+42 tower does not reach you. Coverage isn't always the best. I'm a five minute walk from Wrigley Field and a five minute drive to downtown Chicago and I only get 7-8mbps. I drive fifteen minutes west to where I went to high school, and I get speeds of 20-22mbps.
Third, HSPA+42 speeds are THEORETICAL. You can THEORETICALLY have speeds that fast. You aren't guaranteed to.
Also, HSPA+42 is still 3G.
Sent from my SGH-T999
It looks like you encountered massive traffic or the backhaul is not upgraded.
I had the same problem. I kept upgrading phones, buying them full price so I didn't have to renew my contract but I just kept switching my old SIM card into my new phones. When I switched to the Sensation I called T-Mobile about my slow speeds and they told me I had to upgrade to a "4G SIM card" and that worked. I would say that could be your problem but being that you now have the S3 and it has the micro SIM card then maybe they didn't upgrade your area yet.
That sucks dude...I'm out in Orlando, FL and I usually get about 10-15mbps almost anywhere...
At home I get +15mbps every time...
I attached a photo with the difference of my WiFi at home and my HSPA+42 at home. These were after a ROM change so I only have 5.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Do you notice the same speeds on other speed tests or super sluggish browsing?
It's possible to imagine that the nearest and even lowest pingable server is simple not responsive to your (up/down)link. I usually compare to freespeedtest.com and even grab files from local servers.
Also you server's routing table could be weird.
If not, I'm inclined to believe that it is an overhead problem.
Go to the phone dialer (on stock) and try doing
*#197328640#*
1:UMTS
1ebug Screen
1:Basic Information
And check the bottom item lines. You should see some connection information about your service. Can you list what you have?
Also, jic check the Band at the top and make sure it says 4. Possibly could be defaulting to 1900 experimental.

I feel a little silly, just found out about sprints site.

So after years of being curious as to where the towers where for my sprint service, but never curious enough to actually try to find it, after reviewing my sprint bill I saw the link on the sprint page about service issue and location of towers.

So after years of being curious as to where the towers where for my sprint service, but never curious enough to actually try to find it, after reviewing my sprint bill I saw the link on the sprint page about service issue and location of towers.
I thought you guys may find this site useful. Those of you on sprint and having network issue.

After reading what you wrote I couldn't resist and check the site. I was getting 10 meg download before they completed their capacity upgrade and data speed up grade. Now my 4g speed has dropped to 700K. Tower is 1/4 mile from my house. Thanks sprint :banghead::banghead:

told u their coverage maps show that i have 4g coverage guess what no 4g coverage untill the main street a mile or 3 away
oneword
falseadvertising
lol not really
There's actually a website out there that shows every single tower out there (or the majority of it) including location, owner, etc.
Can't be pressed to find it but it's out there and if you find it then you can check around you for any towers. It's interesting seeing how much towers from multiple carriers are spread out around your area.

Chalk up another one to your group of not aware people. I knew the coverage map but not this tower locator. Pretty helpful to be able to verify the drop zones of Sprint. So helpful I'm going to put a bookmark on my home screen to ease my frustration. Unlimited data takes the pain off the bite whenever my phone isn't working because of data loss.
Neat, thanks for this didn't know about it. My service blows  check out 97501

My house is just a bit North of the center of that map. I get 6 bars, but cap out at 20KB/S.
Usually I get 6 or less. Thank God for wifi.
Thanks for sharing. I got two towers about less than 1 mile away. Lol. I get 4-6 bars with.....

Old result list, but these were taken with 6 bars in the center of those 3 towers on the map.

Ironically, those were typical speeds in Phoenix until recently.

Folks - read the legend carefully. It appears that map only shows towers that are, or will be upgraded.
If you switch views to 'show coverage area' you end up with Sprints 'optimistic color map showing coverage just about everywhere (eg a lie); yet even that map chooses to indicate some new and future towers.
In summary, I don't think there's a view that comprehensively shows all towers, let alone distinguishing which towers have 4G coverage.
If I'm missing something or someone knows of an alternative site, please let me know.

I somehow can connect to 4g in my area, even though sprint says there is no 4g in my area. 12084
Mine is 78109 however, what is shows and what I get are two totally different things, I should be rocking but half the time my 3G is faster and more reliable than my 4G. I know they are in the proccess of removing a lot of the WiMax in my area and replacing them with LTE.
This can't include any other company's towers. I live in 48189, and get pretty good service 2-3 bars (not great, but servicable) , but my brother lives in 48350 and gets garbage, but has more towers that are closer, and has only 0-1 bars.
If you are in a non deployed market and get wimax then you're connecting to a protection Site. These are just there to fulfill fcc build out requirements and will not be upgraded like most wimax sites
As of now. Clear wire is reportedly upgrading wimax Site backends to support tdlte. If you get wimax in a launched market then you'll probably get Clear wire tdlte.
