DSIXDA and compatible files - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Guys,
I am trying my hand using Dsixda+Cygwin and I want to load up a ROM to test with. It says it can use .tar, .img, or factory ROM files but I am not having any luck with it recognizing my files. I have tried the .tar and .win files from CWM and TWRP backups but Dsixda does not recognize them. How can I create a backup of my current ROM into a file that Dsixda will recognize and allow me to modify?
Thanks,

help with file permissions, converting .IMG files to update.zip ROMs.

I've successfully scripted the automated creation of a file structure into which the contents of BOOT.IMG, SYSTEM.IMG, DATA.IMG, CACHE.IMG and SD-EXT.IMG are extracted. The script also creates a valid update-script file under ./META-DATA/....
The only issue I have is that I'm using windows so the .IMG files extracted as a yaffs file system, looses the original file permissions. I need someway to recreate the permissions in the update.zip.
Thats all.
Having a way of converting a nandroid backup to an update.zip means you can very easily cook custom roms from a nandroid backup, and port ROMs across phones using a portable .ZIP format.

noob ?

I just got a new app from work in a .exe format.
can i put in a zip and flash it or do i have to change it to a apk file
I tried to put the exe file on my sd card and use astro to install it put it won't
I also tried to find a app to change exe to an apk with no luck
Thanks for any help!!!
.exe are applications designed to run on windows. Renaming the file wont change anything. It has to be an app written in Android code or it wont work. DO NOT flash unknown/unsigned files in recovery (I dont think it will let you) but if you manage to it can brick your phone.
DO NOT flash unknown/unsigned files in recovery
Thank you god for that answer!!!!!!!

GB tar file

I was looking for a link to a rooted GB rom that is a tar. I found a lot that are zip files as well as the one click file but I need a tar file. I would like to have a gingerbread rom that I can flash using mobile odin.
You're supposed to be able to throw a one-click exe at Mobile Odin and have it flash it.
"Separate files (named after the partition) as well as .tar and .tar.md5 files are supported. Specific .exe files (Odin3Excutor one-click packages) are also supported." - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19375406&postcount=2
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize it would utilize the one click file.

Please Quick Question About Basics

Okay Fellas I need help with the basics.
I have a Galaxy Note 3. I successfully rooted it using the guidance provided here by the members. I also put clockworkmod revoery on the phone.
I am attempting to use clockwork mod to download zip files from my computer onto my external SD card and then install the included programs onto my phone. Everything works with me using Samsung Kies to detect my phone on my computer. I downloaded the zip files and UNZIPPED them first. I then used Kies to transfer the unzipped files onto my phone. I then used Clockwork mod and hit install zip. Next I selected install from external SD card and I see the unzipped files in clockwork. But everytime I select the files Clockwork tells me there are no files available, yet it is showing me the files. Essentially I am getting a reading of no content on the unzipped files I am being shown inb Clockwork.
Maybe the mistake i am making is I am not supposed to be unzipping the files before uploading them to my phone. Should they stay as zipped files when I transfer them or am I right in unzipping them forst on the computer.
I have been struggling with trying to get Clockwork to install the files for two days. Maybe you guys can tell me what basic steps that I am missing
Thanks so much
No need to unzip

Thanks so much for getting back to me on this matter as I am really baffled. I will try with the zipped files installed on clockwork

[Q] embarased for asking this.

In TWRP, when you flash a rom you are pointing it to a .zip file, or bootloader or modem or whatever. Great, but when I create a backup of my rom in TWRP it doesnt make a flashable .zip it just makes 4 .win files. If I then go into TWRP and select restore it asks for the location of the .zip and if I go to that location obviously there is none to be found. Do I just use like winrar or 7zip and make it a .zip or what? I dont understand this and I better because If I ever need it Im screwed.
TWRP backups are not zip files. You point it to where TWRP created the backup folder.
