All problems fixed - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So my Wi-Fi isn't working at all since I started re-romming my phone. Yesterday I tried out the CM nightly build, which worked but had terrible battery life. I switched over to the ultimatum ROM directly, and now my wi-fi doesn't work.
Any ideas? ... i think it might have something to do with the kernel but im not sure, this is my first android and first experience romming. thanks in advance!

I'm betting at one point you flashed the kernel from ktoonsez. Just flash his (or faux123's) kernel again and I bet it will work again.

i just tried flashing to the stock kernel no luck... where can i find ktoonsez's kernel?>
edit: found faux123's kernel. I've now installed this kernel successfully and wi-fi is working... but i don't have a status bar anymore. damn it. any ideas anyone?

Send yourself a text or plug the usb cable in to a pc. You likely need a notification to get the status bar to show up again

I just wanted to know if it was safe to flash from aosp to a touchwiz ROM. I did it and it worked but ive had some minor issues with the ROM . Not sure if its the ROM itself bugging out or if its because of the circumstances i flashed it in

As long as you do the Odin back to el26 then wipe all and flash it's not the you flashed. Most of the aosp Roms still have some problems. My biggest one was the aokp and and cm9 roms deleted apps I installed after restart if any part of them is required to be on the the sdcard. They are still working on the bugs since they just got source kernel yesterday I'd give it a couple weeks before we see something with less problems from aosp roms

Its not that anyone may not of wanted to help you but your question could of easily of been answered with a little research. That may have been the reason your responses did not come as fast as you may of hoped but I am glad to see you got it working. What rom are you trying to run that is giving your issues. If you are having major issues just do some wiping but make sure its on of the new from "source" kernel that has been put out by agat in development. Or flash a el26 kernel and wipe away then reflash rom. The choice is yours
Good luck and if you need anything else just pm me

Sleep issue (cm10)

When my device goes to sleep it never wakes up. I have to keep rebooting it to get the screen on again. I am on cm 10 stable release and stock cm kernel. Any suggestions on to fix this?

Will see how it goes. I hope it isn't cm because I prefer it over everything else.
A new kernel did absolutely nothing. It still is unresponsive every thine the device locks. All I did was root, install cwm from ROM manager, and install cm, then install ktoon k747 kernel. Is there something wrong with my device?
Go back to stock via Odin. If issue gone then its cm, try a diff rom. If issue still there then device.

[NEW][KERNEL][REPACK] GA10 with AGAT tREC_v0.3.2 recovery

Since Garwynn is busy with FL24 and N2 kernels at the moment I decided to make this one too.
I present the GA10 Repack Kernel with new recovery tRec_0.3.2.
This recovery has been compiled with CM10 (JB) source and works better with JB roms/OS.
The repack is not perfect yet but it can be used as daily driver as is.
I'll continue working on it and try to fix remaining bugs.
I didn't run many tests on this but since I've used same methods and same recovery it should
have same problems and also same thing should work.
So I guess you should be able to make and restore nands, flash zips etc.
If you discover new bugs let me know and I'll try to deal with them as they come.
Here is the link:
AGAT_GA10_repack.tar
Hope this will work for you guys.
First.........
Sweet dude! You are incredible!
You are the man!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

Actually I made it yesterday but then got caught up in FL24 and N2 setups.
Forgot to post it.
Sorry.
I'll run through a few of the usual tests tonight if I can and more tomorrow.
Hopefully someone else can run some too. Like to see if I can get a full restore from 'zero' - full X2 style formats from ROMs to ROMs etc..
Either way I'll post the results.
Thanks again Agat. Your dedication and support is amazing!
don't keep your expectations to high.
It should be pretty much same as FL16.
Only difference would be that you will have kernel from the build you running.
Good ol' Soft Brick for me.
The good news is the recovery works and i just flashed back to stock GA10 Kernel

Ive been running since release booted up fine. Only issue I had with fl16 repack was could finish back up stopped at checksum. Will try on this build and report back flashed alot of mods last night with no issues. Paid apps are still on phone and can download fine from playstore. This was tested on stock rom and deod. rom. Flashed via mobile odin.

Did you have 'Wipe Dalvik' checked in Mobile Odin? I've seen that cause that for me. I don't select that when flashing kernels. After successful boot with new kernel I've had no problems using that option.
---
So far:
Installed via Mobile Odin with no problem.
All apps working - again so far.
Wiping cache and Dalvic cache from recovery works
Created backup (It seems quicker by the way. MD5 generation took longest)
Verfied md5 (with AFV app).
Installed a few zips from recovery with out issue.
Haven't done a restore yet but will later.

Yes. Just connect first to anything internet related with 3G, then reconnect with WiFi.
Well, I thought for a second that this repack didn't have the same apps on sd issue as previous releases, but then I realized that I had done the power off/power on test with the cable still attached. After removing from charger and powering off/on I have the same issue as before.

May I get some help on getting wifi to work with this rom?

Sorry, I know this is somewhat of an old post. My question, to install this kernel do i need to do anything in cwm such as wipe caches, factory reset or any of that?
I'm running 10.1 by the way.

They are all based off the Linux kernel. You just need to make sure you're flashing the correct version intended for your ROM. The later ROMS are running off Linux 3.4.x. However, Keep in mind that the latest kernels will NOT work on ROMs that were released before 4/19. Be sure to only flash the updated kernels released on that date or later or your phone will not boot . So in your case you must update to one of the latest CM nightlies (AFTER 4/19) if you wanna flash any of these later 3rd party kernels.
For future reference you can check the linux version of any ROM in Settings > About Phone> Kernel version. Also do some more reading next time bud. This whole kernel deal has been discussed countless times in numerous threads.

OK, I'm also having troubles with tethering. While I have very few posts here, I'm not exactly inexperienced. I've been putting custom ROMs on since I had my G1.
I'm running a recently nightly of CM10.1 (4/20 so a 3.4 kernel) and obviously (as discussed above) it can't natively do wifi tethering. Found this thread and a couple others stating a needed a different kernel (that's a first for me, hadn't ventured into changing kernels).
Searched around and initially went with BMS, however I had the same problem - no wifi tethering.
Based on the advice here, downloaded and installed Ktoonsez's K747 kernel. Same thing.
In all cases, I've tried with WPA2 and unsecured. In all cases, devices can see the AP and can connect but no data is transferred. There has got to be something simple I am missing here. I really miss tethering (use it for internet on my Transformer Prime when I'm on the road).

Something is clearly wrong here. I just did a completely clean flash (factory reset/wipe) of the latest nightly and then laid on the latest KT kernel and I still have no hotspot ability whether with WPA2 or open. I can see the hotspot but no data transfers.

Hmm, USB tethering doesn't work either. I'm guessing there is one common cause
By golly, I think I've got it. I did ANOTHER wipe and install and immediately tried the hotspot and it worked. Prior to this, I noted that my CWM was horribly out of date and was not 3.4 kernel aware (as evidenced by nested 0 directories). So I fixed that and then flashed and it worked. I then went to work restoring data using Titanium backup and that's when things went to hell. Something in the restore hoses the ability to use the hotspot. So now I am doing a more controlled recovery hoping that I can get back all the data I need without hosing the hotspot.
So, this explains why a dirty flash didn't work. Whatever breaks it was obviously there under the dirty flash. And my previous clean flashes always had a restore via TB immediately afterwards.
So, not sure whether it is only the restore issue, or if the old CWM also had a hand in it, but either way, I think I'm gonna succeed here.
Can someone post a step by step fix please?
I have the same problem; I have tried to replicate the solutions here, to no avail. Flashed anew, still same problem.
Can someone please post a step-by-step fix? Can I just flash a new kernel and be done? I'm on CyanogenMod ROM, 4.4.2, 11-20140210.
Thanks!

[HELP] WiFi not working on any ROM but CM 10.1

WiFi is not working on any rom except CM. I have wiped everything clean and done clean installs of Liquid Smooth 2.9 and AOKP MR2 and still nothing. I have event switched recoveries from CWM to TWRP and the GAPPS im using are 20130301. I am totally out of ideas here. I can live with CM but I really want to try AOKP MR2 as I hear it is quite good.

Sounds like you might have flashed a newer Kernel with update WiFi drivers. I've read where that's happened and you have to revert (somehow?) to the old drivers for compatibility. I think this was an issue in KT's kernals, but you might want to do some reading and research on your own.

Could be. I'd go back and read the instructions and changelog for it. If it loaded a different driver, you will need to re-flash the stock wifi driver, not usually included with other ROMs. Not sure if flashing the modem files would include those either.
So where would I score the default driver?

I dunno. I suppose you could flash back to stock using one of the "toolkits" available and go from there. That would probably be my choice, but is probably the long way home, too.
Where have you looked so far? I don't use CM, so I haven't read those forums for you, but I would assume you aren't the only one to switch from CM to some other ROM.
