So I switched from Windows 7 to Kubuntu. Now I tried to get the native MTP over W-LAN working but I have no idea how to force Ubuntu to recognize my Phone.
I know there is a App out there to enable this feature. Yet I don't want Redundancy Features on my phone.
So does anyone managed it to connect the Xperia Arc via WLAN?

When I connect my tp2 to my windows 7 pc it says, Generic RNDIS Driver not found.
i would like to sync my device with outlook. bluetooth works, but USB is faster.
Can somebody help me??
The first time I connected it used windows update to find the drivers it needed. Make sure you are connected to the net. Download (if update has not done it for you) and run windows mobile device center.
All this happened automatically the first time I connected.
Is there a place to download these drivers?
It prevents me from tethering.
Obviously if I need to tether, I have no internet connection to download the driver. (Catch 22)
I had this issue on my Titan, and I used to keep the drivers on the SD card. I could install from there and be online.

I was having the same problem on my XP until I installed Active Sync.
So i tried to do some USB tethering today.. and it would not work.. because I am running windows xp on my laptop....
with the OTA it states i need to run Vista, or higher..
anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks
It runs on XP just fine. Make sure you downloaded the CORRECT pc app, there are flavors for all the operating systems. I have XP running and it works fine on my system. There is a wireless app that also works with the G2 now and if all else fails you could do that, too...
Good Luck!
make sure you have HTC sync on your comp and it will work np
HTC sync.. just download it from HTC site?
should be nice and easy..
yep just install it and restart
plug the phone in and on the phone turn on usb tether
Is there a specific one for the g2.. or does any touch sync work for it?
yea there is hold on
err. if i find it ill post the link
try this

its for the desire z but its the same phone
G2 tethering
You got the OTA update that enables wifi calling and usb/wireless tethering, right?
On your G2 Go to Settings, Wireless & networks, Tethering & portable hotspots, Help.
Under this help guide, go to the website link for USB listed there.
Go to this website and choose "USB Tethering with Windows XP"
Download the INF file "tetherxp.inf"
On your G2 check the "USB tethering" option, and connect your G2 via USB cable to your computer. Instead of using windows to automatically seach for drivers, direct the wizard to the "tetherxp.inf" file.
This will also work for Windows 7 if your having problems tethering there.
Thanks, this worked like a charm. Hopefully it's better than PDANet, which seems to slow down my phone like crazy (whenever I run it Launcher Pro becomes unresponsive at times).
Hi,
i am not able to tether my desire on windows7 machine, it does nicely on windows xp. I have installed htc sync but with no help. Any idea as to what is missing.
wlan tether or usb tether is not working?
me too..My computer's operating system is Window 7
I'm using hTC Desire...it was working with original ROM
but after I flashed to CM7 RC2 and GingerVillain ROM(both are 2.3.3), I found USB tethering unable to work, when I ticked it then it will auto untick the box
someone know how to solve it?
It's quite obvious the problem lies with gingerbread...so either revert back to froyo...or try uninstalling the USB drivers and downloading the latest ones (they come with HTC sync from HTC.com)
Gingerbread isn't really (officially) out, soooo...that's my theory at least
usb tether dont even work on XP with the latest android usb driver revision
Since installing JB (Revolution HD 15), when I switch to internet pass through mode, my MTP USB Device always fails to install.
Mounting as a hard drive works fine.
I've upgraded drivers, sync manager etc.
bump
Hi
I have the same issue.
Have you found a solution yet?
I recently acquired a Sony Xperia C6506 (ZL LTE). Before I start playing around with this phone, i need to offload some photos. I'm trying to connect the phone to my laptop running Windows 7 via the USB. My system does not recognize the phone. I'm assuming it's because I don't have the correct driver on my windows system . (I've also tried "PC Companion but had no luck there either). I searched the Sony web site for a driver but did not see a specific one for the C6506. Does anyone know where I can find the correct driver for the USB on Windows 7? Or does anyone have any other ideas why this might not be working?
Thanks
I have the same phone and windows 7 recoginzed it and installed the driver by itself. Didn't remember if it downloaded it or found it from the system. Perhaps you can try the PC companion software from Sony.

Thanks for the reply - I've loaded PC Companion and in step two, it never recognizes the device.

What happens when you connect the phone to your PC? Anything? Do you see any messages popping up? Any errors? Do you see it in device manager? Also, do you see any messages on your phone when you plug it in? What USB connection mode is set in your phone's settings? In general, MTP should be the most universal method.
I have the same phone, and it is recognized perfectly by Windows 7 (at work) and Windows 8.1 (at home). When you install Sony PC Companion, it includes the proper drivers, so you don't need to do anything extra (you do need additional drivers for flash mode and ADB, but that's a different topic). I would suggest trying another PC, to see if it makes any difference. If it still doesn't work, it might be something with your phone...
As an alternative, you can use a WiFi connection to access your files on the phone. I often use either ES File Explorer or Software Data Cable - they both provide an FTP service that you can connect to from your PC over WiFi.
Have you tried with another cable? My Xperia is recognized perfectly out-of-the-box on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, as soon as I connect it, PC starts to search and download drivers, no PC Companion installed nor Flashtool drivers. :/

Yeah, that would be a good option to start, forgot to mention it. I've seen bad USB cables quite a few times, more often than I'd expect...
Thanks again for the quick replies and the suggestions cause they worked - it was the cable. The cable I was using was capable of charging the phone but did not allow Windows to recognize it. I used a different cable and it worked fine. Tharnks again. Now the fun begins changing the phone into a media playing device. If you have any suggestions on this I'm all ears.
Thanks
