Screen issues but won't replace my device. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I bought my nexus from Google play and called Google but they said they can't give me a replacement but they can put me on to Samsung to send it in for repairs. I followed through and they gave me all the numbers and what not but the only reason I really wanted a new device was because of the scratches on my screen, and I don't think I can live without my phone for 10 days. What should I do, is there any way to fix the scratches? Would a screen protector cover it? Should I call back and complain seeing as though these issues were here since I bought the phone but I went on vacation on the third week after buying it.

I doubt complaining will help. The fact you have had it and used it for 3+ weeks without noticing the scratches are probably the reason Google are reluctant to replace it FOC. They probably assume you would notice and make a claim after a day or two, not a few weeks. A decent screen protector MAY cover the scratches and for a few dollars/pounds/euros its probably your best and easiest bet.

Yeah its my fault, but I'm quite dissapointed I even have to go through this at all, my g2 never got a scratch and the nexus shluldmt have so much screen problems. I'll get a screen protector.
You think if I don't do anything that I can just not send it in? Or do I have to call or something?

why not use a led light app to blowout the led? just a thought lol then they should have a reason to replace it

Dropped my phone. Cracked my screen.

Today was real sad for me... when I was getting out of my car, I accidentally dropped my phone on the concrete.
The phone still functions fine. But because it dropped screen flat down, the bottom part of my screen is crack.
Also there's a crack going through about halfway from the left bottom corner to the mid-right part.
Is there anyway to fix this? With an iPhone, i have a friend who switches the glass on the front/back.
Is this possible for the galaxy nexus screen?? Please help.
here are photos... this is a real quick photo i took with my macbook because i do not have access to any other camera right now.
more pics coming soon

is there anywhere i can go and repair it for a cost?
or is the only way to fix it by buying a separate screen and replacing it myself?
I really plan on using this phone for a long time so i am willing to pay a lot to fix this screen.
I read on the web that its possible, but alot more difficult than othwr phones. Best of luck to you!

No, I get that, but I've been around xda and other forums for a while, can't remember seeing this many on a device, albeit I've never had a device this popular. Maybe its the sheer number of people who own the GN. Even when I was shopping around I saw multiple devices with hairline scratches on the screen. The screen on this device gets alot of attention, I remember the uproar when Samsung said the device didn't use guerrilla glass.

Back in the day, when I broke my iphone screen, I was able to find a guy that would repair it for 60$ on Craigs list. Try and search for someone there.
I found a local cell phone shop that quoted me $220. Find one of those and call. But I couldn't fork out that kinda cash

I agree with you, cases and protection just take away from the device but sadly this is a risk. Did you by any chance buy it with a Visa card that may offer automatic protection from loss, damage or theft? My card covers me for the first 90 days.
Last I checked you could get the whole display assembly on eBay for ~$250

Worth buying a damaged Gnex off Craigslist

Seller said they dropped it in water. It holds a charge but will turn off shortly after being powered on. They're asking $100. Worth it or should I pass? Sounds like a hardware problem so I don't think its fixable without dishing out a lot of money.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I think you answered your own question. I'd say its definitely not worth it considering a lot of factors like how long it was in the water, what they did after they pulled it out, etc etc...
Replacing the logic board is cheaper than replacing the screen, so as long as the screen isn't cracked it shouldn't be that bad. However, you're not going to be able to easily find a replacement logic board yet. If it is well and truly broken, your best bet is to keep the screen and housing, then buy another Nexus that has a broken screen and frankenstein it together.

Its like buying a used car with some issues and spending a lot of money to fix it's known bad issues then after sometime new bad issues will come up and you'll keep fixing it and so on that if u bought a new one wit would have been cheaper! Electronics are even worst!

Cars are different, though. Any issue with an engine that completely prevents it from running is not going to be traceable to any one particular part, especially if all of the parts are really old.
These phones literally have four major components that are easily replaceable, and only two of these components are going to keep the phone from being operational. If you replace both the logic board and the screen, it's practically a new phone.

I broke my screen also only 2 days after buying it. I took it to a cell phone repair shop and they used an n7100 screen amd also digitizer. (Because they broke my digitizer replacing the glass) 2 days after that my phone just quit working. They refused to fix it because I signed a waiver. So I took it to another shop who said it was the wrong screen that caused the problems and it totally fried my phone. Not sure if they were right or not but I ended up dishing out the $700 for a second time for another new phone. Not sure if you want to chance it.

Guess I got lucky. Bought an Elago case and iSmooth screen protector. Phone fell out of my pocket next day and happily bounced down an entire concrete staircase. The pen fell out and went even further. Case has few dings from concrete. Phone is in perfect condition, so is the pen.

Cracked case

Did some one else also got their phone cracked?
I babied it since I bought, not even a minute scratch, every thing pristine. Called customer service, they claim any physical damage is not covered under warranty.:crying: Even sent them links and posting full of same problem.
NEVER going to buy any Samsung products.
mind posting a link to this cracked case?
The top left corner of the back has a nice crack, developed in a week because of their plastic. I just went on eBay and got another one for cheap. Never dropped it either but oh well, at least the screen is in tact

Mine too. I told Samsung about it just to let them know about poor build quality, they kept trying to get me to send it back to them so they could rape me on fixing it no matter how many times I told them that I didn't care about the crack I was just letting them know that I was disappointed in the quality. I think I am done buying samsungs, I will go with Google branded devices from now on.

I was a die hard Samsung person until my s3 I have a Samsung fridge, 2 Samsung TVs, 2 captivates, a blue ray player, a focus 2, a Bluetooth earpiece, and I recommended Samsung to everyone. I am quite disapointed in the way they handled my advice, I wasn't asking for service or a replacement, I was just letting them know I was not happy with the quality of my device. So I think I am done with Samsung for a while, I love my nexus 7 so I will be going Google for the time being.

I had their plasma, paid ridiculous high price 11 years ago, still going very strong. Windows OS Focus phone, great quality. But now after knowing their problem, how they treat me. I will even persuade others from buying their products.:crying:
Lol I thought the whole time the cracks were part of the bezel hahaha I have 4 of them one in each corner. What a coincidence lol but yeah they don't bother me. I always have my phone in a case, but yeah I totally thought it was part of the design and I noticed the bezel is all uneven around the screen... Some gaps bigger than others... Samsung always has issues on their bezels.... The Note was the worst. Not OCD about it. But I did notice it

I used to baby my phone, but I couldn't find a good screen protector that worked with my case.
I love using the matte-finished screen protectors that are reusable (I'm using the Mochi brand). I'm still very careful about my phone, though.
Noticed a fresh crack appeared in bottom, on top of USB. Looks like whole bezel will fall apart.
That sucks. So far, no scratches after about 8 months use. Good to be on the lookout for them though!

My mrs had a note 1 and last December smashed the screen, it was approx £200 to get it replaced, which was almost the value of the device at the time. So I bought her a note 2 for xmas. She's either very clumsy or very cleaver

I smashed my Australian GN2 - but a couple of months after buying. I don't think the glass is as Gorilla as they claim. The official ways to get it fixed all seem fairly expensive but there are some diy videos on youtube and there seems to be a difference between replacing just the glass and replacing the whole screen.
I sent mine in to SquareTrade a few weeks ago. They charged me $99 (deductible) but replaced the screen and the chrome edges. Phone looks like brand new.
