Dropped my phone. Cracked my screen. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Today was real sad for me... when I was getting out of my car, I accidentally dropped my phone on the concrete.
The phone still functions fine. But because it dropped screen flat down, the bottom part of my screen is crack.
Also there's a crack going through about halfway from the left bottom corner to the mid-right part.
Is there anyway to fix this? With an iPhone, i have a friend who switches the glass on the front/back.
Is this possible for the galaxy nexus screen?? Please help.
here are photos... this is a real quick photo i took with my macbook because i do not have access to any other camera right now.
more pics coming soon

Wouldn't your warranty cover this? would you be able to replace it yourself?

is there anywhere i can go and repair it for a cost?
or is the only way to fix it by buying a separate screen and replacing it myself?
I really plan on using this phone for a long time so i am willing to pay a lot to fix this screen.

I read on the web that its possible, but alot more difficult than othwr phones. Best of luck to you!

I don't know but maybe try calling Samsung they might charge a fee and do it for you?
Worth a shot I guess.

No case or any protection?

Lol? I see way more on Iphone forums. About the same amount on other Android forums. You drop it face down on concrete the right way... What good screen will be able to take that?

No, I get that, but I've been around xda and other forums for a while, can't remember seeing this many on a device, albeit I've never had a device this popular. Maybe its the sheer number of people who own the GN. Even when I was shopping around I saw multiple devices with hairline scratches on the screen. The screen on this device gets alot of attention, I remember the uproar when Samsung said the device didn't use guerrilla glass.

Back in the day, when I broke my iphone screen, I was able to find a guy that would repair it for 60$ on Craigs list. Try and search for someone there.

I found a local cell phone shop that quoted me $220. Find one of those and call. But I couldn't fork out that kinda cash

Wow, what was the height of the drop? I'm worried this could happen to me because I love having my phones naked.

It was about 2.5 feet?
Not so high but screen cracked...

I agree with you, cases and protection just take away from the device but sadly this is a risk. Did you by any chance buy it with a Visa card that may offer automatic protection from loss, damage or theft? My card covers me for the first 90 days.

Last I checked you could get the whole display assembly on eBay for ~$250

Cheapest way to fix glass with hairline cracks

The glass on my T989 have had scratches for the last month. It hasn't gotten worse, but I really want to get it fixed, because its starting to really get to me. I'm weighing my options, it seems it would be too costly, and I plan on rather spending money on getting a SG3 at full retail. Should I repair this, and sell it, or sell it as is on craigs list? What would be the most cost effective way? I notice there are OEM original glass replacements on ebay for like 10-15 dollars but don't know how to replace it myself. How much would it be to get a professional to do it? What price would I be able to sell it at on craigslist just to sell it as is? I'm not sure what I should do, any suggestions would help. Theres like 6 hair thin crack lines spread in a circular pattern about 2 cm apart on the top half of the screen. Any suggestions appreciated thanks!
I have never tried it myself but I have heard that replacing the screen on most phones is not too difficult.

I dunno this one seems pretty darn hard. My Hd2 was a b**** since it needed soldering so instead of trying I just sold it
Ive been meaning to post up a tutorial but I did it for myself...it was simple but Replacing the screen on this phone for some scratches is not the best option though as its an expensive screen
Btw the screen and the digitizer are one peice... Or at least very well glued together
Isnt there some type of 'scratch filler' thing that you rub into the scratches?
Try on of these ideas

Are they scratches or cracks? Big difference.
I had a few thin, semi-deep scratches on my screen a while back. I put a dab of white, semi-gritty toothpaste on the scratches themselves, and buffed it into the scratches with a dry towel corner until all residue was gone, then repeated. Did it about 4-5 times and lines were almost entirely buffed out. Can no longer feel lines and can only see when looking extremely close for them. Phone smelled good to boot! Haha!
Cracks... that's a whole another issue.
Best,
AP

Screen issues but won't replace my device.

I bought my nexus from Google play and called Google but they said they can't give me a replacement but they can put me on to Samsung to send it in for repairs. I followed through and they gave me all the numbers and what not but the only reason I really wanted a new device was because of the scratches on my screen, and I don't think I can live without my phone for 10 days. What should I do, is there any way to fix the scratches? Would a screen protector cover it? Should I call back and complain seeing as though these issues were here since I bought the phone but I went on vacation on the third week after buying it.

I doubt complaining will help. The fact you have had it and used it for 3+ weeks without noticing the scratches are probably the reason Google are reluctant to replace it FOC. They probably assume you would notice and make a claim after a day or two, not a few weeks. A decent screen protector MAY cover the scratches and for a few dollars/pounds/euros its probably your best and easiest bet.

The side where? On the screen, the front bezel, the battery cover?? If its on the case of the phone somewhere i suppose you could find replacement parts online and swap all the internals if you were so inclined. If the screen itself is scratched, other than some hair brained schemes like blow torches and sand paper i would say you are stuck with the scratch. The good news is a decent screen protector film should disguise anything other than a major disfiguring.

I had people bring back phones that had water damage. Half our managers would say take it back and the other half would think about it and then may or may not do it. If he just got it yesterday he could reason that it was too easy to scratch since it is supposed to have gorilla glass. I've returned more with less reason because the customer was nice.

You don't really have to do either one, but if you are trying to swap it in store I would, and you have to have a reason other than the scratch. If you are using GSBTP you need to break something on it so they'll send it off. If you use GSBTP you don't need to unroot because that doesn't matter.

Clumsy people can be a pain
would it be bad if you just swap it out saying you actually want the blue one but buy the screen protector to hide the scratch, and then a couple days later just go back and switch to a new white one saying you actually preferred the white one to the blue one?

I work at a cell phone repair store. We charge like 275 for the repair and a good quality part will run like 225. I have fixed like 30 gs3s so far and I am going to warn you now..... Do not attempt to just replace the glass. I you will just be wasting your time. To the guy that said it is manageable, until you try it yourself, please don't give advice like that out. It very much is not manageable to do. But if you have any experience repairing phones, just order the screen plus lcd yourself and do it. It is very easy on the gs3

Depending where your at I would google search repair centers and call around for the best price. If that doesn't work perhaps Craigslist? I met a really cool tech guy off there and he works on mainly iphones but knows a lot about android devices as well.

It isn't about the quality, the screen is curved in the edges so it becomes extremely weak there, one unlucky corner drop that avoids the plastic bezel and hits the screen and welcome cracks.
Now i dropped mine many times and found that the phone drops on it's back most of the time and survives, but i almost broke it when it dropped on the side, luckily it hit the bezel and there was no damage, not even a scratch/bend.
So yep.. luck.

$17.90 for front glass, not bad. I have a surface scratch on mine that has been bugging me, might be cheap enough to be worth the trouble. Has anybody had any experience ordering from that website? Is there any instructions included on how to replace the items or is that something that you just have to find on your own?

From what I read, its strongly recommend to replace the whole unit(screen, digitizer, and glass) because its a huge pain to get glass off if you are lucky enough to do so.

I know its tricky, but i've done it before(heat is my friend). Once you do it once it actually isn't bad especially because the nexus has the slight lip around the screen which helps you big time with positioning the glass. I'm just confused if the two glass cutouts are the same or not.
So I still have broken glass that is finally starting to fall out whilst the cracks have gotten larger, no thanks to my two year old who loves to throw toys.
Has anyone seen the glass replacement, not the digitizer, last long term?
I'm trying to hold out until October but concerned that I'm going to lose the screen entirely soon.

My phone has EXACTLY the same crack pattern!! And I know how bad it feels.
Is this some design issue with the GNex stress points?
I asked the Samsung Care Center and they asked around $185 for the replacement (glass and digitizer)
That is more than half of the phone cost. :crying:
(Edit: They said as the front glass, the digitizer and the lcd are glued together, it is impossible to get a seperate glass replacement)
Luckily I had a screen guard on so the glass pieces are not falling apart yet.
You can get the glass and ask a trustworthy maintenance guy for helping replace it.
I haven't tried yet. But might try soon. :fingers-crossed:
Can someone tell me the link of the adhesive that you have bought on eBay or amazon??
