Got 8779 Update on my ATT Lumia 900! - Nokia Lumia 900

Using the Nokia Care suite and SuperSport's ROM flash guide I found an update on the Nokia Care Suite Servers specific for ATT Cyan Lumia 900. I can use the Nokia Counters app and flip to silence! However, it did completely wipe my phone.
I'm new here, so hi everyone!
Cheers.

That's the only thing I don't like about NCS is you are pretty much hard resetting. Also, using a different ROM than your original might "walsh" the phone - so anytime you want to update, you have to flash via NCS all over again (Zune will no longer detect updates for your phone). That's why I'm using NCS just to monitor upcoming updates, but content to wait for the Zune. Nice thing is my product code is for SmarTone in Hong Kong (unlocked) so I don't have to wait for T-Mobile or AT&T to **** around with it. Seems like SmarTone released the Tango ROM immediately after it was available. Trade off is no warranty..
All that said, I actually did voluntarily hard reset last week - instead of being content with an Outllook.com alias, I decided to go full bore and just rename my account to the new format.. Hopefully that will be the last for awhile!

Ah, hmm, if you forced the update, then you probably don't have updated firmware. The only reason I'm asking about ATT is because when they release an official update, they usually include an updated firmware to fix kinks and general performance enhancements
Scratch the above: Didn't realize nokia put the actual ATT update on their servers...looks like it's going to be pretty close! Have you noticed any enhancements to like touchscreen sensitivity or camera?

I have noticed that the capacitive buttons stay on whenever the screen is. Personally I liked it better before, but its not a huge deal. Flip to silence works great, and I have noticed that whenever I press and hold the camera button when the screen is off, it works EVERY TIME. Before it only worked sometimes. I did get new firmware as well. I have never felt that the phone was laggy, and that hasn't changed.

Do the volume buttons work when music is playing and the screen is off?

My belief was that the Nokia Care Suite ROMs were in fact the OEM ROMs. Am I wrong there? I thought they were exactly what ATT was pushing out, but that you were just manually updating ahead of ATT's schedule, so the Zune update should continue to work. Again, am I wrong? I don't have my Lumia anymore, so cannot test the theory.

Your understanding is correct. Zune accurately detects the update status just fine. Presently gives me the option of rolling back to my previous back-up 8112.
The only bump I ran into was post-install driver conflict. Zune couldn't detect the storage level (how much of the 16gb was allocated to music, etc.). Removing NCS AND the Nokia USB drivers (x86 and x64 if present), rebooting the machine did the trick.
Cheers

I'm thinking about trying it my self, I've seen some were that the camera has improved some didnt know about some of what you just posted, cool

It looks like Nokia has released the 900 update to North America now - I can't tell if this includes ATT yet though.

Thanks, I actually meant doing the update from Nokia Care Suite before it was officially pushed out.

One of my biggest issues was clearly fixed by the new ROM/firmware: the volume used to not change under ~10, so you couldn't get the phone volume low enough to hear it in a quiet room without everyone else hearing it, too. Now the volume works as expected: 1 is now a nice, hushed volume level.
Camera seems to launch perfectly from the lock screen now, camera is improved, especially in shutter time.
Net-net, my 900 now seems to work as nicely as my 800 in all capacities, which could not be said before.

unfortunately the updates still have not fixed the microcell battery drain problem

I belive they make changes in Microsoft Exchange Sever (Email services) ,also fixed the Notifications status errors and someother stuffs.
HTC Titan UK, have just updated.
I've just been pushed the 7740 update to my 7 Pro, nothing particularly major.
I'm praying that it fixes the live tile and artist pictures on Zune though, the live tile has been stuck for weeks now and it seems to have lost all the artist pictures from stuff I bought from the phone!
Nice to see.

Am just updating my Nokia Lumia 800 (on orange Uk) now to 7740.16. In the blurb just say it's fixing an email issue with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003

Updated. Didnt feel anything faster. For me, useless update
Thanks for the info.. I also got the notification on my phone but I don't even care to upgrade to this version.. Coz I don't want to go through all that 3 hours of 'backup' as Microsoft likes to call it, which basically backs up nothing.

I got the update on my LG Optimus 7. Didnt do it as I was feeling lazy. It supposedly brings two changes on O7(Activesync message forward issue and some Voicemail issue)
Didnt get the update on my Samsung Focus.

Microsoft rolling out update: OS 7.10.8107.79

WMPoweruser.com reports in this article that Microsoft has begun rolling out an update to OS version 7.10.8107.79 which includes the following:
It solves a problem of the keyboard on the screen, preventing the keyboard to disappear while typing
Resolves an issue with syncing Gmail
It solves a problem of access to the location. After the upgrade, the function IO hub sends to Microsoft anonymous information contact the Wi-Fi access points and antennas for mobile phones in the vicinity, only if you have allowed access to and use of location information from part of the "I’m here."
Revocation of certificates issued by DigiCert Sdn Bhd to solve a problem of encryption
Fixes a problem with the e-mail related to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. When you reply to or forward an email, the original message is now included in the response.
Fixes an issue of notification of voicemail
Under Cellular Network, 3G Toggle Button is dropped off and replaced by a drop-down where you can select betwen 3G and Edge or any other you have. This is now called as Speed Connection.
according to a tweet by Chris Walsh - part of the Chevron team - the issue that a certain SMS could shutdown the whole WP messaging services seems to have been fixed as well: Link

Internet Sharing was part of the Mango update. If it's not enabled on your device, you'll need a firmware update with the appropriate drivers from your OEM. As far as I've heard (or to be more precise read), hacks and/or unlocks won't be affected by this new OS update.

No access to Mobile Network in Settings
I'm using an LG Optimus 7 on Vodafone UK and set the cab to my device.
It accepted the update and everything seems fine although I now cannot access the Mobile Network settings - it starts to open, you get the transition and then it just snaps back.
Anyone know how I can get it back via a registry tweak or whatever?

Looks like the update made the official Windows Phone site. Hopefully they update the "Where's My Update" section soon

Where's My Update - Community Edition

Microsoft has announced they will no longer document update releases by carriers, but this is still useful information, so now we must keep track ourselves to know which carriers are lagging behind.
Feel free to edit this spreadsheet when you have received an update notice on your carrier (no login required):

Looks Great. Although I would suggest that they are completly sorted by Country, then Carrier and then device I guess this is fine for a first version.
Maybe someone can add these changes later with the help of this forum.
Anyway, today I received 8107 but only after using the cable/network disconnect trick on my PC. Should I still mark it as delivering update?
As long as you haven't changed your branding or your ROM to a different carrier, then you can add that your carrier is delivering the update.

Unbranded probably wont get the update as there is no one to request it for you! I think that is how it is. I've forced the update on my Titan and worked perfectly fine. Very simple steps. There is link etc in the Titan forum as well as here somewhere.

You disconnect your PC from the Internet (in my case via network cable) shortly after you start searching for updates via Zune. I actually disconnected about 5 seconds after searching started, but you can try out what works for you.
I had WiFi enabled and cellular data connection disabled (no 3G and no EDGE), although I only disabled cellular data due to my prepaid flat expiring.
can confirm that unbranded/open market phones not get the 8107 update
omnia 7 -> no update availible in germany, even with cable trick, no chance.
dell venue pro -> no update avaible in germany, even with cable trick, no chance
both no carrier brandings.
I am pissed a lot about microsofts way to schedule udpates to the people, nobody knows where and why any update will arive and there are everywhere anoyiing bugs in wp (keyboard) -> user experience is an F
What does it mean, open phones no update??? no update now, or no update never ever?? Anyway, we pay more for a open phone, to get more updates and even sooner, and at the end, we are the last.

I think open phones now get the updates much easily! We only need one carrier to release update and then using cab sender it updates right away! I did that with my unbranded Titan and it only took 8-9 minutes from point A to point B!
there is currectly no update delivery, maybe in the future but if you see microsoft community manager any carrier has to request the update ... but theres no carrier for open market phones, whats the obvious? Open market phones dont receive this update ever and get it maybe with the next (tango?) update.

I think that is a dangerous method.. If you don't update all the language cabs..
You may not get next HTC update..
So open phones users, we are screwed or what? i got the 7740 update right away. but until now no theethering for example.
yes this is the actual situation, some unbranded phones may not become wlan tethering because it depends on carrier request and dont get the 8107 update (on the official way...with hacks you can have both but this is not the point why i choose windows phone)
sad to see microsoft destroys its own system and screw away their fans
I've got a Samsung Focus (originally a Rogers phone) unlocked and using on Bell Canada network.
I did the wifi disconnect trick and got the 7740 update...doesn't this mean Roger is delivering it?

for tethering you need OEM driver update it's not only OS depended
Iosu
Samsung had the driver ready even before Mango started rolling out. In the official rollout drivers update was already softap implemented and working . I got some ROM that had older OEM drivers date than the Mango rollout and it was there too.
On the other hand, HTC was playing bad and didn't include it. No idea how LG and Dell...

i know...but if i use hack i can use internet sharing...if i dont, i am not able to use it
even on german telekom the omnia 7 users got internet sharing
i have german telekom sim but unbranded omnia 7 and dont got it
i know that the dell venue pro is not capable for this feature but omnia 7 was before mango!
When i look at 2 friends, one with branded telekom and one unbranded, both got internet sharing and no one can tell why my friend with unbranded got the update and i am not.
its not the lack of the feature, because i dont care about wlan tethering but who pushs the updates? Microsoft and they hold it back, a total inconsistents in the update process...like with 7740 as os update or even more worse the 8107 update
-> tested the cab sender and all seems to be fine for me but restored my backup because i want it on the official way and not this. I paid not only for the device, for the os, too! The update experience is just bull**** with wp, android doin it better because i can choose nexus phone (never thought i say this) and get every update immediatelly and apple do it the best way since now.
Looks like my next phone will be no windows phone, regardless that i like the system but i dont get what was promised and what i get.
The big issue here is how to confirm all this data.
Maybe some of the information is wrong.
I guess I'll try to keep the Sasktel (Canada) section current. I'm guessing there aren't too many Sasktel people on here with windows phones but I could be surprised.
Also +1 on being annoyed with this whole carrier requested updates.
At least we'll be able to come here to see what's officially available.

Force updating to Tango - a warning

A lot of people have seen the links on WPCentral and WMPowerUser for force updating to Tango using the cab sender method.
I've been posting in that thread since yesterday and I'm seeing countless people messing up their phones by (a) not using the cab sender tool to make a backup before sending the updates or (b) not installing the language packs with the update or not installing the correct language packs.
The other thing people should be aware of is that for some people the update is removing INTEROP unlock. If you have a very recent Samsung firmware there may be no way to unlock again.
Tango adds very few features. Location awareness icon is not there. Export to SIM only appears to be there for a select few. Unless MMS is something that your life depends on, wait until more work can be done by the developer community analyzing what effects the 8112 and 8773 updates have on all the different phones & variations (carrier/unbranded) thereof.
EDIT: One user with a Dell Venue Pro has most probably irreversibly bricked his phone by applying the update.
If you want to force the update, try it:
http://www.wp7connect.com/2012/06/28/how-to-force-tango-update-on-your-device/
Worked for me. Needed two updates. The second one was 8773, then I received Nokia firmware.
i don't understand how those steps are able to work. if the wlan connection is killed while zune is searching for an update it returns a 'can't check for updates right now' error.
If you do it the right timing, it will stop the checking of the phone carrier etc. So thats something like
Connect to server > Check Atual Version > Check Last Version Available > Check if allowed to update > Update
When you kill the wlan, you are supposed to it exactly in the part that check if you are allowed to update. When it doesnt receive a response from server, it just update. Basically, you jump one step.
And it works perfectly. I've done this with Mango, now I done this with Tango too. Believe, it's not troll.
Another method is to count how much time it takes to answer you that your software is up to date. And then take 1-3 seconds off. That's when you have to disconnect. So you keep trying alternating the time you disconnect your pc.
thanks for the explanation of the sequencing.
i love wp7, and the lumia has been great...but i think it's a bit strange that updates are via zune software only, yet they stripped the marketplace accessibility functions from that same software making them ota only. sorry for the stray OT.

WP 8 is going to have OTA update. And a rumour that 7.8 too (I dont know what for. Will MS release updates after 7.8 to 1st and 2nd generation?). But I think the Kernel CE is the one to blame here. Its not a big problem for me. You will have like 2~3 updates in one year. That gives one update every 4 months or 6 months. I dont mind connecting my WP to computer.

It worked for my carrier unlocked Samsung Focus.
At first I installed the OS updates (4), then I tried to install the 5 lenguages that my phone needed but an error prevented that, so after I tried to install only my main lenguage and it worked!
I agree, it's not really worth it, I use the MMS feature, but this cab update method it's not very stable in all phones.
I finally couldn't take the disappearing keyboard issue on my HTC HD7s. As far as I read, AT&Crap had no intention of providing that update, or Tango for that matter. I followed the steps for the cab loading updates and they worked fine. Haven't noticed any adverse effects for the past few days. Now I just bide my time until my contract ends so I can grab whatever decent WP8 phones that come out.
We've been doing force update thing from the Mango days. It's a easy process *IF* people follow the directions. It does work but, you must have the correct language packs/files to install with it.
It also could remove your Unlock.
If you READ THE DIRECTIONS and RE-READ THE DIRECTIONS, then FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS you should be fine.
It's people who are in a rush who brick or screw up their phone.

Since I heard Rogers is pushing Tango for some Lumia 900 users (I'm not one of them), I got jealous and decided to tinker.
Tried to push Tango like I did with forcing Mango back on my Samsung Focus. IT WORKED! I am now installing Tango on my Lumia 900!

Instructions:
Here’s how I did it (I’m updating as I’m writing this):
1. Disable Wifi and Cellular Data
2. Connect to PC, open zune, settings, then phone, then update. It won’t find any, but you NEED to do this.
3. Change the tab (navigate away from Update). Now click on Update again, but disconnect your internet connection after 2 seconds. BAM an Update is available after waiting a few seconds!
4. Hook up internet and proceed!
Click to collapse
Right now I'm upgrading from:
7.10.8107.79
to
7.10.8112.7

Ya no kidden, it's all good though. I just hope it fixes my purple screen. I didn't want to push the cabs though since it might screw up future updates...
When I used this "hack" if you want to call it that, on my old Samsung Focus, it worked with nodo, and it didn't stop mango from being detected and installed properly.
I'll keep you guys up to date!
Well, I'm running that newer version now, however I still have the purple screen issue, and no added MMS functionality... hmmmm
Even the update screen said I'd get the MMS functionality.
WAIT A SEC:
Did the "hack" again, now moving on to update to 7.10.8773.98
wonder if this will work for At&t...

If they have already started pushing it for the 900, I could totally see it working, but I think a pre-req for this hack to work, is that the update has to actually be pushing to some of the phones of the model you have...
I would give it a shot though, might work, and it would be great news too!
All done, two updates in total. I am now running:
OS Version: 7.10.8773.98
Firmware Version: 2175.1002.8107.12084
Hardware Version: 112.1914.2.0
Radio Software: 2.1.75.10
Radio Hardware: 8055
Bootloader: 7.17.2.0
Chip SOC version: 0.85.2.1
I STILL have the stupid purple screen on low brightness. and I STILL can't download "Nokia Camera Extras".

Ya, there's a new menu for picture/video or voice note...
I tried sending a video to myself, but all the video's I have are HUGE, so I just kept getting erros saying "The video you have selected is too big"

what if you try to take a 5 sec video using the front camera and then share via mms, does it work?

Wow, that's friggin weird...
Took a 5 second video with front facing cam... Went to messaging, new message, attach, chose "picture or video", then went in to Camera, then selected the video I took, but it WONT put it in...
That is weird... bug?
I tried this 3 times, same thing happened...
Went in, recorded another video using the back camera, with resolution set to VGA... This time I made the video a bit longer (10 seconds)....
I attached it, it worked fine, then I hit sent... Showed the video half screen, bar at the top saying "Compressing...". Finally sent...
And received it, so I guess it works.
Just tried it again with ANOTHER video, recorded at 720p, at 30 seconds long... It compressed, and sent ok...

Forgive the noobish question but... How exactly do you mean "disconnect from the internet"? Are you physically disconnecting the computer from the net or...?
Please advise. Id like to give this a shot when I get home today...

I have the same behavior on my AT&T Lumia, (I used the CAB method for the update)
Well... I started to follow this "hack" method and connected my phone and I immediately got the 8112 update pushed to my phone so I guess it was already there waiting so its just updating now. Once its finished I will try the method again to see if I can get Tango. I will post my results...
***EDIT***
Turns out that as soon as the 8112 update was done that the actual Tango update started all by itself!!! NICE!!!
I did NOT need to do anything to get these updates but I DID disable wifi and data and then connected to Zune so maybe thats all that needed to be done?...
I did not need to "navigate away" from the updates page or anything as stated in the OP. Am I just lucky or perhaps all you really need to do is disable data and wifi and Zune will push the updates to you? Either way my Lumia is on its way to being Tangofied - 7.10.8773.98
Maybe WP 7.8 is hiding in here too? LOL...
***EDIT 2***
Has anyone noticed if these updates remove the "governor" that Nokia added to the scrolling speed? I have read a few posts where this has been mentioned and afterwards I did notice that the scrolling is slowed down quite a bit from what I remembered on my old HD7. Any speed improvements in this area with these updates?
