Searching the site is now limited to 1 search per 25 seconds.
If you search after 22 seconds, the 25 second timer resets.
This is horrible.
If you accidentally mistype when searching, or the scripts that are running flub your input, then 0 results are found. Obviously you aren't being malicious when modifying the search and pressing search again.
If you want to stop robotic abuse, put one of thos things in that makes you enter characters.
Or at least allow 2 searches in 50 seconds.
Or limit it to 2 in 50 seconds if 0 results were found with the initial search.
Can we please change this policy, to allow a 2nd search without delay if 0 results were found on the first search?
Normally, when I log into XDA, I search for all threads that I have posted in. I can then see if any new posts have appeared in threads that I have posted in. There is some script that runs, probably related to the adds the flubs my entry. So I'll end up search for JH3 or JV3, or something like that, instead of JVH3. 0 results are found. Of course I need to search again. Before the timer was 30 seconds. Sometimes I would search after 20 seconds, and it would say I need to wait 10 more seconds. Annoying, but it's just 10 more seconds. Now that resets to 25 seconds.
I would think this setting could be adjusted on a per user basis. the new policy is probably good for New users or users with a post count < 100 (non senior members) But users that have been around for over a year with 100+ or 1000+ posts are probably not robots.
Can we please change the search restrictions to take into account the user doing the search?
Thanks for your attention to this.
i asked for this over a month ago in the STICKY titled "requests from users to admins" at the top of THIS forum area...
AKA the place you should have asked instead of posting a NEW THREAD.

Which option did you ask for?
Any reason you did not provide a link to your post?
I had seen that thread. When I read the description in post #1, it seemed that the purpose was to avoid the direct PMs of the mods and admins and wasn't about keeping additional threads from being created.
If all requests for anything related to the site are to be in that thread, then why have an entire forum dedicated to anything about the site?
And why is there not a statement in post #1 that is directly stating something like: All posts related to requests for change to the site belong in this thread.
But, there is not such a statement in post #1 of that thread or the first 10 posts of that thread. Any mod can modify any post, so it easily could be added if that is what the mods want the thread to be for.
Another thought. Let the amount of searches be determined by the number of Stars by your name. This would encourage donations to the site.
Take some base time for users that have made no donations to the site, like 30 seconds.
Each Star gives you that amount of seraches in that time frame.
Then donations would get you something more than just vanity stars.

What's wrong with just wanting the stars. I feel like I'm on TV.
Seriously, though, the search time limit is REALLY annoying.

We are working to bring the search experience back to normal and part of the reason we had tighten the search flood timers is due to a number of bots/scripts abusing the search functionality to the point where search would be overloaded and unavailable to all members. Clearly some search is better than no search. With that said, we have dropped the timer from 25 seconds to 20 seconds and will continue to tune the experience in the coming days.
Just as a possible suggestion to searching for your own posts, if you subscribe to threads (with no email notification), you can easily view if a thread has been replied to since you last visited the forum from the "User CP" paged linked to at the top of every forum page.
Regarding captchas, they are very annoying and it probably takes just as long to fill out the captcha as it would be to wait. We do have captchas for non-registered members but we unfortunately have seen bots that are logged in at the time of searches.
Thanks for your input!
Hello,
I am new here and I completely understand why you would want to prevent new users from posting too often.
However, after posting a reply I realized it was missing a word - I did preview it before, but I am exhausted today and it wasn't enough to spot the typo. I proceeded to edit my post and was told I couldn't because as a new user I have to wait 5 minutes between posts. Now I have to remember to come back in 5 minutes and edit my post.
If it is at all possible it would be great if the forum could check whether this 'new post' is instead an edition of the last post you made before blocking it.
I hope you'll consider it.
It is possible to add a "thread wiki" post below the original post?
Eg in slickdeals, you have a common wiki below the OP that people can add stuff
I feel like threads should have things like that...
OP might not have time to update his/her post with relevant info that an another user can add
It might be difficult trying to look through 100 pages of posts to figure out if someone has a similar problem(or through search), while it is easy for multiple people to maintain a common wiki that they can all edit
EG: http://slickdeals.net/f/4803408-Thi...ted-by-users-like-you?p=51265310#edit51265310

Interesting idea, not sure how adaptable it would be with the VBulletin software though. It might also be similar in effect to something I hear is going to be rolled out sometime soon, a post rating system so posts with more positive ratings will move to the top, and posts with enough negative ratings will be hidden.
I think though that the OP should either ask the mods to close the thread or hand it over to another user by contacting the forum admin if they don't have time to maintain their thread with important new information.

I mean small details: like "most commonly encountered problems and solutions", that the OP might have time to add or not
For a dev thread, I rather have the dev (most likely the OP) focus on developing and other people helping out in figuring out problems by common users... users can update the wiki on the un-resolved problems so that the dev can see, without having the dev to read the last 3 pages that were newly posted
you can see in the Slickdeals thread... 179 pages of posts... some of them are "useless" in saying "thanks for the deal", while some people have legitimate questions (like "is this phone quad band") that other users answered 10 pages after their post... having a wiki means common info will be presented clearly without having to dig through the thread, and anyone can update that, not just the OP <--- most important point
EDIT: Slickdeals uses vBulletin too, but customized plugins... there are probably open source plugins out there, just trying to dig through
EDIT2: i guess SD doesn't use pure vBulletin plugins for that... maybe some CMS system

I guess the problem really is that the dev thread should not be used for support, but people insist on treating them that way. I think that there should be a "ROM XXXXX Support Thread" in the device Q&A forums and that is where such questions should go instead. Then there would be no problems with the restrictions since user support questions or bug reports without proper logging, details, attempted fixes, etc. would be moved from the dev thread into the support thread if they were able to post them there.

even in support threads... who would maintain the massive throve of info that many people would ask? the OP(most likely the dev himself who made the thread), or every user who wants to?
example.... if a lot of people post below us, makes it go into 5 pages... someone on page 3 found a plugin that does what it works.... does it make sense for that info to be posted just below my first post by anyone, or is it on me(the OP) to edit my first post "someone on page 3 found this info"?
This is actually an interesting idea. We are busy adding other new features but definitely will keep this in mind. Right now, we do already have a wiki and there is nothing stopping someone from creating a wiki page while adding their thread, and linking to it, but it would be nice to integrate that directly into the page.

yeah, but it's definitely not as seamless as having it right below the original post
lemme see if there are any plugins to "stream" that wiki page into a post...
Came here to request this too. And precisely for the same reasons as the OP.
This would be immediately embraced.
I don't understand the "I'm not sure this would be adaptable with vBulletin" comment since slickdeals uses vBulletin.

i have been following a thread about about the development of 4.4 for the hisense sero 7 pro (randomblame, davepmer and others are awesome)
anyway it has a post count of nearly 1,000 and people come in and try the latest build, or just wanting to ask a question about the latest builds. the same questions get asked over and over. i don't really think its the fault of the person asking since who is going to read 1,000 posts just to see if his/her problem has been discussed.
I just reported an issue with this site regarding security certificate and it was deleted within 10 seconds.. This site is hacked and I am reporting it immediately. Stay away from XDA
No one deleted any of your posts (I just checked). Your other thread is literally right below this one.
I am closing this one, please do not post the same thread, someone will reply to your original one.
edit: I did just delete 3 of your posts that just said "please delete," however...

We're excited to welcome you to the new version of the XDA Forums, which is now based on XenForo software instead of vBulletin. If you're not familiar, XenForo is a modern forum platform with a focus on speed, sharing, and overall fluidity. TLDR: we long ago outgrew vBulletin and we wanted to make a huge upgrade.
Things are different! We know it will take some time for everyone to adjust to the new forums, and we ask for your patience as we work out bugs and issues to make the XDA 2021 forums as familiar as possible. One fun thing to try: change templates in the bottom left corner. We have a few to choose from and might add more. Whether you like a dark or light look, or if you want to see classic XDA colors from a decade ago , we have you covered.
Use this thread to report bugs or ask questions. Our partner firm, Audentio, which designed the forums, might respond on our behalf within this thread.
Thank you for your continued support of XDA, and we hope you enjoy XDA 2021! ✌

Known Bugs/Regressions:
Some posts (former DevDB OPs, at least) can't be edited unless user disables the WYSIWYG editor and uses BBCODE instead. Fixed 12/09 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/page-115#post-84076621
All users have enforced signature length and link limits, which should be higher/removed, at least for advanced forum users. Fixed 12/20 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/page-135#post-84140273 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/page-135#post-84141915
Advanced forum user max title length is too short, truncating them (e.g. "Senior Recognized Developer / Recognized Contribut").
Long forum names are truncated (e.g. "Android Software and Hacking General [Developers O").
Thanks/Likes counts are reduced for most users, sometimes dramatically, seemingly from Aug 29 - Dec 2; possibly related to (7).
Various old forum emojis aren't mapped to new unicode ones, and ones in old posts that do exist (e.g. :cowboy:) don't display.
Some users have reported their OPs and/or attachments reverting to older versions; possibly related to (1). Fixed 12/09 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/page-115#post-84076621
Broken redirects from old links for many threads/posts.
Disabling Alert in Preferences forces Mobile App Push enabled, one should be able to disable both.
Users who were Senior Members are now only Members, as though the threshold is different. Fixed 12/09 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/page-115#post-84076615
"Unfurl"ed URL links to posts sometimes show a preview of the OP instead of the correct post (e.g. [URL unfurl="true"]https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/post-84073623[/URL]

I know you guys are probably still working out the bugs, but so far the forum is super slow. It take 20 to 30 seconds to load a page. And yes, my Internet works fine with all other sites at the same time so I know it's not my computer, browser or Internet connection.
Also, for some reason, I can't load page 2 of threads and it seems like some recent posts were not migrated over?
Question. What's this mean for the XDA Android app? Not able to login at the moment. Plans for updating it I take it?
Where is the Search Thread box? I used it all the time! Edit: When using the top of page Search box here is a drop-down menu option to search this thread but it's no working. Edit 2: It has been fixed!
How can you add a title to a post since Advanced is gone?
No option to not include your signature in some posts & in others not like in Advanced before the migration?
Most Thanked posts in the thread (liked) in the right sidebar is gone?

Hopefully the site is still settling in after the migration. I know this can take time. Looking forward to continue here on the new platform and hope all the great experiences of old times remain the same and new ones are added.
I would second the earlier comment about the site being slow but again i probably answered my own question in the first sentence i typed.
it's slow, but the cost of change need some time, imagine you are merge years to a new platform..
it's not easy for sure, and can't be done in one day.
I assume that everyone can already tell but it really is very slow. I hope that it can be fixed!
This is dreadfully slow, 20-30+ seconds to load a single page.
Trying to go to the *last* page of a thread causes it to continuously go to the first page of the thread, and "jump to new" is even more broken, listing "recent" posts but labeling each one as "#1" and then mixing in "first page" posts as well.
Evident for me on this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...oid-auto-use-torque-with-androidauto.3657805/
Update: while we're back online, we know the forums are slow. We're actively working to fix some database issues that are causing the slowness. Thanks for your patience.
The site looks great! Thank you for all your hard work on this! I am sure you will get all the bugs worked out soon
Small bug: It seems I can no longer moderate my XDA Community App forum. Is this on the list of things to fix?
