I would use this masterpiece rather than wasting my money on that stupid iPhone ****. Or better I would buy a brick instead.

=(

Apple is simply too expensive. Even if I sell my galaxy nexus and old wildfire s, I still couldn't afford iPhone 4S. I would rather buy new PC and for that price very good PC!

Don't worry, Google will be smart.
- In the next Android version they'll "re-invent" multi-touch and the other stuff.
- They'll probably also buy out a company just for their patents again.
- They'll probably just bite apple on the ass with patents against iOS if they ever come up in court.
Long live Android

Apple are patent trolls and will do anything to stop Android because they know that it's dominating the market. It's for this reason that from ICS and up the lockscreen is a ring and not slide to unlock - Apple had patented the slide to unlock mechanism. I wouldn't worry too much, all Apple are doing is forcing Google to be more innovative and come up with new designs etc. to counter the Apple patents. Apple are taking the cowards way out.

If they do that, they declare war to millions of people and they will damage their reputation as a leader. Leaders shouldn't act like a 5 year old and say: their my cookies even tough you're eating them, my mommie baked them!

Don't say thanks, hit thanks!

With these patents, they can also forbid all the museum stuff (touchscreen are really fashionable ), the cash machines, Windows Surface, all the modern devices...

It's alright, soon Apple will suffer and DIE in vain. And we will laugh at its grave.

Multitouch is nearly an industry standard. If Motorola can't implement their patents, then neither can Apple. If Motorola (owned by Google, btw) had their way, they would DESTROY all their competition, not just Apple, or even smartphone makers. They have patents for EVERYTHING, even fundamental radio technology that's currently in every phone produced post-2000. But no judge in their right mind would let them implement their patents and no judge will let Apple do the same.

Anyways, to quote the article for the patents Apple is claiming have been infringed:
Apple's motion alleged that the Nexus devices infringed four of its patents: US Patent Nos. 5,946,647 (actionable linking), 8,086,604 (multi-source searching), 8,046,721 (slide-to-unlock) and 8,074,172 (touch screen word suggestion).

Click to collapse
US Patent No. 5,946,647 - this patent was filed in 1996 (issued 1999) and covers detecting data, such as a phone number, in an email or web page, creating a link to that data, and initiating an action like calling the phone number when the user selects the link. The data could also include addresses, dates, etc.
US Patent No. 8,086,604 - this patent claims priority back to 2000 (issued Dec. 2011) and covers searching multiple sources of information (on device and elsewhere) through a single search interface, such as Siri. Apple specifically touts Siri in its injunction request, but also argues that a unified text search is covered by the patent as well.
US Patent No. 8,046,721 - this patent claims priority back to 2005 (issued Oct. 2011) and covers Apple's signature slide-to-unlock feature. While Apple already has patent coverage on an image unlock feature, this newest patent is obviously intended to be a bit broader — likely addressing potential workarounds implemented by Google and OEMs over the last couple of years.
US Patent No. 8,074,172 - this patent was filed in 2007 (issued Dec. 2011) and covers providing word suggestions while the user types on a touchscreen keyboard, where the suggestions can be accepted or rejected by the user.

Essentially, some of these patents are the very same patents Apple has been attacking other Android OEMs, such as HTC, for. They're going after basic Android functions, but rather than going for Google directly, they're attacking OEMs. This is the closest they've come to attacking Google directly for these particular patents, AFAIK. If you ask me, some of them are rather inane, such as slide-to-unlock and text suggestions.

That patent hasn't been granted yet, and is FAR more specific to Android's implementation than Apple's very vague, rather inclusive patents that have been granted. Which is highly unfortunate.
I love how Apple is getting judges to grant injunctions based on their actionable links patent when theirs is so limiting. At least with Android those links can let the user decide which app is used to open that object.
this makes me so fing mad. i want to smash something. F U APPLE!!!!!!!

Luckily Google no longer has the swipe to unlock feature (they have to move the circle into the other circle feature). I doubt the judge agreed that that particular patent was infringing on the Nexus ICS device even though Apple hoped it was. It sounds like the judge used the universal search patent and the actionable links patent to make this injunction.

I don't understand injunctions, how can you ban a product based on software that isn't even the same and also before it been proven to infringe on it. It seems to me like the judge is basically deciding outcomes before a trial.

Very depressing. I guess a tenth of a trillion dollars in Apple's bank accounts isn't enough for them. Software patents are so broken.
Considering the actionable linking patent is essentially describing hypertext behaviour, I'm surprised that's not FRAND or equivalent by now.

UK judge rules that 3 Apple patents are invalid in lawsuit against Android!

http://www.todaysiphone.com/2012/07/judge-says-htc-phones-dont-violate-apple-patents/
HTC’s devices don’t infringe four Apple patents for the technology and three of those patents are invalid, Judge Christopher Floyd said today. In addition to the slide-to-unlock feature, today’s ruling covered Apple’s patents on tools used to scroll through photographs and change alpabets, and software allowing users to touch the screen in two spots simultaneously. While the court ruled that Apple’s photo-management patent is valid, Floyd found that HTC didn’t infringe it.“

Unfortunately, denying that something is infringing won't set a precedent (it will only have bearing for that particular device, patent, and situation/implementation), but affirming that it does will.

iPhone Killer?....Really?...People still say that?

Ok,
So I was having a "civil" conversation with a resident Apple Fanboy at work about how Google Now beats Siri on a basic head to head test, which he proceded to repsond, "And? Apple on Tuesday was awarded what is being considered as “the mother of all smartphone software patents,” according Phandroid’s Kevin Krause. Considering Apple’s recent track record, the company may be preparing to bring down a legal hail storm against Google’s Android. “The effects could be swift and lethal,” Krause admitted.
Of particular interest, patent number 8,223,134, which covers “Portable electronic device, method, and graphical user interface for displaying electronic lists and documents,” could be Apple’s biggest weapon. Basically, it covers user interfaces for smartphone email, telephone, camera, video player, browser, widgets, search, notes, maps and a multitouch interface. That’s a list of features in every competing smartphone OS.
PatentlyApple said, “Apple reinvented the smartphone, and today they get another patent victory to celebrate that fact… Apple’s iPhone truly reinvented the smartphone and Apple’s granted patent reflects the broad range of graphical user interface innovations that they brought to market.”
Apple has been steadfast in its quest to squash any competition it deems has stolen from the Cupertino-company. Over the past several months, Apple has been embroiled in a number of lawsuits around the globe, the most recent of which dealing with the Galaxy Nexus.
The granting of such a broad patent could have far reaching consequences on the marketplace, and potentially stifle any major future software advancements, which is ultimately bad for consumers.

Hahahaha I read this to, the question would be weather Apple decides to fight and get some sort of an injunction. I do think if these suits start getting out of control, it might backfire on Apple, but we will see. I mean, seriously, people didn't by Android because of a disappearing scroll bar, just like people didn't buy Android over Apple because of unified search.

Samsung vs Apple lawsuit repercussions

I don't want to be negative because I love my android especially my s3 but anyone know how loosing that case in court to apple is going to affect us and our s3's? One of my friends said oh just wait a few weeks and demand an iPhone 5 from your carrier. I really don't want to do that as I abhore apple products. I despise the proprietary nature of the iPhones and how inflexible they are. No expanding memory.. no ability to tweak them ...just so very utilitarian and unmanageable... so if anyone knows how this loss to Samsung will affect us I'd love to hear opinions and thoughts... thanks.!

It could would to samsung, because more people are finding out how samsung makes apple's processors, etc. In fact, that essentially in the guts, hardware wise, similar products, though the apple is like 3x more, and samsung has a better quality and price.
This ban could be temporary; the nexus was banned, but if you check the play store, its back to being sold; it has for some time now.
So in the end, will really just have to watch as it plays out. This could be 'htc move' for apple; where people were unhappy with them because of them going back on their bootloader word. This could drive more people to samsung.
Really why make another one of these threads when a few already exist..... And last I read nothing is banned as of yet.that hearing is set for sometime in Dec. And on top of that the GS3 is not one of the phones Apple is going after. Most of the galaxy s2 variants and a couple galaxy s1 are the ones being questioned.

+2, That lawsuit had absolutely nothing to do with the gs3 and will not affect us in any way. All it will do in my opinion is encourage Samsung and others to innovate more and be more creative which is good.
And why the heck would buying an iphone be a solution to anything? Your friend is dumb.

The lawsuit is far from over... that being said the S3 has had a 50% increase in sales since the verdict(S2s have been traded or sold to the resellers) so tell me who lost in court?

And here is Samsung fighting back....

Just think of this is true, either Samsung will get money back. Or you can brag about your phone having LTE (if/when you get coverage) and their brand new ICrap 5 doesn't.

SAMSUNG Court Case
Well, all I have to say is...if the developers keep turning out stuff like this latest nightly, 08/31 CM10, Apple is going to sue them.
I was floored by the performance boost in the GUI and how I finally have a phone with no personal complaints I can cite.
CPU runs all the code I write fast enough for what I need, and the wireless N support doesn't suck.
On top of that, the radio on the unit works very well for voice calls, far better than my EVO does.
(My poor EVO has been relegated to displaying Weather, playing MP3's and movies as a gift to my sister.)
As for the lawsuit, I would like to remind everyone no money has changed hands yet. There is an appeal process. There _will_ be an appeal process because lawyers don't like to turn down that much cash, I can assure you.
Secondly, the last time LINUX was threatened, was SCO. A grass roots effort over a 5 year period, reduced the company to a rubble pile. Geeks like myself, have HUGE bearing on our friends and our families on what they should buy. Even the small number of geeks at the time working in the open source industry.
Now, it is an entirely different story. Open source runs the modern world now.
If Apple gets out of line, and starts shutting down product lines of companies for what could be argued as the most ridiculous legal proceedings ever, since the SCO case, we will mobilize.
We will mobilize our friends, our families, our places of work and like SCO, Apple will feel our wrath and it will wither and die as a company.
Many like myself feel this way because we understand how technology and science works, and it works by building on previous inventions.
_ALL_ companies build on previous products and technology. Apple is no exception.
If SAMSUNG copied the parts and software I could see legal validation for retribution. But the products displayed in the courtroom in this particular instance have little technological, software or GUI likeness if at all to any Apple product.
Secondly, the jury was stacked by Silicone Valley idiots, which has already been shown to have complete bias towards Apple, regardless of their beliefs of right or wrong in the said legal case against SAMSUNG.

No expanding memory.. no ability to tweak them ...just so very utilitarian and unmanageable... so if anyone knows how this loss to Samsung will affect us I'd love to hear opinions and thoughts... thanks.!
