Google is giving Apple its apps!! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Today google made "Google now" work on IOS and in previous days it also made Chrome to work on IOS. Why is google making this? On the other side apple didn't give Android Siri or Safari. This thing makes me feel that iphone users have every awsome app and me as an android user can't get what they have. Google must make this apps exclusive on android phones, i won't be surprised if they gave them Play Music or Play books in the future.

I don't think software wise Google feels threatened by Apple... Plus they would rather everyone gets to use there software them just hog it for only a select few....

The more iPhone owners start to use Google apps, the less they'll be ideologically tied to Apple -- and possibly consider an Android next time.

You're also forgetting ad revenue and more refinement for their search algorithms.

They even have gmail to

yup the more people that uses google's stuff its better for them
on the other side apple is trying to remove everything google related to iOS, next version of iOS is gonna come without google maps and without the youtube app its had since day one

why would they allow google to put there apps on ios if Apple is going to remove them anyway waste of Google time

Google: "Oh, hey Apple I got a nice new search app for you. I think you'd like it, it's way better than that siri crap you have. It's faster, doesn't sound like a robot and overall looks better. Your welcome.
Apple: "Oh thanks."
I see it as an insult more than anything

Remember, Google didn't create android to become a competitor to apple. They did it to prevent companies like apple from locking them out of their devices. Unless they think they can completely sink ios, it's in their best interest to keep Google services available on ios devices.

I'm all for Google sharing their toys but making this available on iOS and not on Android 4.0 or older? LAME!

I also think it probably helps in what will inevitably be ENORMOUS upcoming lawsuits not only between companies like Google, Apple and Microsoft but also when governments start getting involved. Google is expanding at an accelerating rate into new markets with fiber, Motorola, Android, ChromeOS, etc. They need to continue to show that they aren't being monopolistic.

Because they can hook iOS users so that when the Apple nazis remove the apps, the users will look towards Android for their fix.
Pretty clever, really.

Tizen on SGS III ??

As I hate it when people make threads that just lead to a link, I'll add a few words of my own.
I'm a little skeptical that this will go the way of the Palm Pre. Be that as it may, you have to consider that Samsung is getting big in the mobile market. They may take the chance to break away from Android and add a new flavor into the mix.
That being said though, does it have to be so........ FUGLY
It looks like every OS out now slapped toge- OH WAIT... I just realized it's some third party Chinese developer made OS. No wonder
I would hate to see the SGSIII go the way of the Samsung Instinct.
LINK
Good quote on the subject:
Seriously Samsung, another iOS clone? Just focus on polishing Android! Android is open source. And that’s not just a marketing move! Open source as in O-P-E-N-S-O-U-R-C-E; as in anyone can take the source code, put their own name onto it and pretend that they made it. There is literally NO reason to develop another operating system. Android is already ahead in number of features, number of apps, and is developed by Google, with top developers and designers from around the world. Samsung, you are a hardware manufacturer. You will never acquire enough talent to compete with Google. Maybe if Google suddenly stopped Android development for two years, Bada or Tizen might catch up. But it won’t.

Lol tizen ? ... Looks like **** !
Looks like Touchwiz. I won't buy a SGSIII if it uses Tizen. I dislike Touchwiz as it is--there's no way that I'm going to buy a phone that looks exactly like it--even if the hardware is great.
I'd rather buy the next iteration of the Nexus series. Heck, if Sprint miraculously gives my city LTE support in the near future, I'd sell my E4GT immediately and buy a Galaxy Nexus. I doubt that'll happen though, as my city doesn't even have Wimax support, so I'd guess my city would be near the bottom of the list for LTE rollout.
I'm not leaving Android, so if Samsung goes to Tizen, I will drop Samsung and pick up another manufacturer.
And I buy a lot of Samsung devices... Moment, Epic 4G, Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy Tab 10.1, etc.

Agree. They wouldn't risk releasing such a crappy looking OS on a highly anticipated device such as the SGSIII. Maybe testing the waters with a different device...yes but yeah android is definitely working good for them.
Samsung wont drop Android...Look at how much success has come from it. These are nothing but rumors.

For what its worth.
The Galaxy S series is tied to Android, I doubt Samsung would risk alienating potential repeat customers by switching OS's. Makes little to no sense.
I'm willing to bet this shows up on a low to mid range device first to test the waters and see if consumers buy into it. I'd wager that it wouldn't debut in the US.

They will probably supplant their entry level feature-phones with this. There are still far more feature-phones (read: dumb-phones) on the planet making that a very lucrative market segment to pursue. I'm pretty sure Nokia is still king in that market segment so Samsung could stand to gain quite a bit by offering a relatively feature-rich experience for very little money to those who don't care about buying into an ecosystem (iOS or Android) as much as accessing their services (facebook, twitter, etc) and simply having a phone that works.
Not to mention this device likely would probably be off the radar of the current ****-show of IP warfare ruining this industry right now.

I STILL DON'T HAVE AN ICS UPDATE.
Google really needs to get their crap together. ICS still out and one phone officially has it. Now this is coming and although it's not confirmed, this is still ridiculous. It would be nice to see tablets running the new upcoming OS but where do the phones play a role in this? I thought the OEMs where the reason for fragmentation but it is proving that Google is the kingpin behind all of this.
I love android but I like to be up to date and it's becoming harder and harder as Google gets more and more powerful. We shouldn't have to get a Nexus to be up to date. Fragmentation really needs to be fixed.
It will not be out for like a year.google has not even said it's going to be called jelly bean.

Another reason to only get google phones. The GN will be updated right away, we will have to wait 6+ months.
If history holds true then we won't get it at all. Both the vibrant and the sgs4g only got one official update. If the galaxy s3 and 5.0 get released around the same time I would bet on Sammy not upgrading the s2. Well its really easy if your devices and product all run similar hardware. apple iphone and ipod touch all run similar hardware. Drivers are mostly the same with slight changes.
Unless google says only restricts to certain hardware like tegra 2 and tegra 3 for tablets. and what ever processor for phones this won't happen. Essentially google did their job once they released source. It now up to Htc, Samsung , lg, and moto do their job and make new drivers from source.
Also another reason is carriers. The samsung galaxy 2 is the same phone through out europe on different carriers. Htc could of did the same thing with the sensation and use a apq8060 so it could essentially be a a world phone. You could essentially switch out the modem and still use the same processor. This would make it easier for updates. But U.s carriers want to brand them. Put certain restrictions for them. Also add all their bloatware back in.
Google alliance thing was something google promised but in the end they can't make it happen. You can't make carriers update your device. If they dont think its important enough so they can make money off of it then they wont update it.
T-mobile is one of the worst when it comes updating devices. I been on all the other major carriers and i seen even them release even incremental updates for phones that I thought no one uses on other carriers. Tmobile will have their flagship device with bugs for at least 6 months till they decide to update it.

I con tolerate touchwiz more than i can tolerate sense and blur. Touchwiz looks closest to stock android. So maybe it will be lighter and lighter over time. The only thing i dont like about touch wiz is the actual launcher. The rest dont really bother me. Sense 4.0 and ics make me not ever want an htc device again. Blur is just disgusting and all it does is bog the phone down.

This was my point exactly. Google keeps saying one thing and doing another. ICS was supposed to make things uniform and I do remember the talk about slowing down all the theming or skins done by oem's. Doesn't look like anything is slowing down. Manufacturers dropping phones non stop and all the adopters of the product are left with no update. It seems as if as long as Google is getting the advertising money....all the companies can run a muck.
I have to admit the third portion of this is the cell providers just being greedy by not updating and forcing you to want to upgrade.

I can't believe Google has evolved so much in a relatively short time and taken up such a huge portion of my life! They have always been one of my favorite companies, and now they may be at the top. I've used their search engine as long as I can remember, of course it's my fave. They give me a free minimalist browser that even my ****ty old HP laptop can run. I bought a Google phone and fell in love with Google's mobile OS, that's free too. Then Google thinks, hey, lets automate search.. And they give me Google Now! Baked in is the best damn mobile voice recognition system I've ever used. I cant believe Google was able to pretty much master the art of talking to a phone, I seriously ask my phone several questions a day, and do it around people with confidence that my phone will understand me and speak back relevant information. It does. Throw in all the different "cloud" storage options they have for free: gmail, contacts, voice, g+ instant upload, drive, etc.. I love Google. I'll never have to enter my contact numbers in a phone again. I have to pause, smile and reflect on that for a second. Or how about freaking satellite pictures of the earth wherever you want, or 360 views from the street. All free again.
Google isn't perfect, sometimes they make me throw my hands up wondering wtf they are thinking, he'll sometimes I complain about it to other XDA members thinking the same things. I know Google makes good money off us (and businesses) through its services.. But from the consumers standpoint, Google offers an almost infinite plethora of options for FREE DOLLARS. And since Google is moving towards all those services being much more tightly integrated, I can't wait to see what they have in store for the future!

What's with all the rampant fanboyism? You guys sound like iOS fans who were oblivious to Android before. Guess what happened to them?
RIM was really slow to adapt with their old keyboard phones, yes, but this new video is showing that they ARE starting to adapt and actually rethinking the interface flow. iOS homescreen was all icons and they sat on that without innovation for years. Android gave us widgets, pulldown notifications, and a recents menu, but you still have to press a button to see it. BB10 is saying **** it, make the thumbnails on the homescreen itself, and have the messaging hub always swipable. They are good ideas, even if they aren't going to dominate the market anytime soon.

Opinions.....Don't insult others before stating your opinion, it doesn't make it stronger or 'right'. This is what people think/feel. If that is too much to handle then don't reply to it. OP asked what others thought, and that is what we are doing.
looks pretty nice, and more competition means more evolution so lets hope they can make a comeback:what:

I also think it looks pretty nice and simple. I wouldn't mind to have it as my second device. Fingers crossed! I'm getting little tired of android. Some refreshing variation would be nice.
Yea seems interesting.. Does definitely seem like a mix between mostly iOS and some android in their.. Looks user friendly looks smooth but to me its a little bit of ugly. Device itself is ugly, and also os already seems outdated their nothing really exciting or revolutionary so yea. Good luck with that.

Google Play vs app store for games?

So do you guys think Google Play will ever be on par with the apple app store? I know they are close in amount of apps in total but I feel like android doesn't get as much games or much support for some of the games. Also, their amount of total apps mostly come from themes and keyboards it seems. I can also name many apps/games from big developers that are missing from android. It sucks its like this with this amazing phone. You would think developers would like to up their customers and support android devices. Why do developers do this? Do they do this because it's easier to get cracked apps on Android without jailbreaking? Is it that much work to change code? Is apple just a test market?

This is not about piracy or support for it. It's about apple app store vs Google Play store and asking a serious question of why android doesn't get support or game development like apple app store. The issue of piracy was raised as a question for seeing if it was a reason for developers to avoid android.

Also I felt this was a general discussion topic other than a Q& A board post.

And most of Apple's apps comes from fart apps. Usually there is something at least comparable on the android play store. But both systems require different coding, and also you have so many phones on so many different versions of android, which probably also causes compatibility issues. That's the one advantage Apple has, is their whole system is in house, phone and os, where as Android is put out by almost every other manufacturer there is, and they all put on whatever version of Android the want to.
Sadly when it comes to games there isn't usually a comparable version if android doesn't have it. Is it really much of a task/cost for a developer/team to recode and up their customer base? Is it much different from windows on many different types of computers and versions of windows being able to run the same game/app?

I think you're in a very small minority that feels as though there aren't as many apps or games in the Play Store as in the app store. Polished apps may be an issue (although it is not for me), but I haven't heard too many people complaining about lack of apps compared to Apple.

This thread is unbelievable. I can do so much more with an Android phone than an iPhone. I don't even need apps to fulfill what I need and want in a smartphone. If you haven't noticed android is taking over the smartphone market not because of those stupid apps the App Store has.

I have no problem with the Google play store, and I used to be on an iPhone. And if you can't usually find something comparable, then you aren't looking hard enough. Yes, some of the ones made for iOS you may not find a counterpart on the play store, but I think that margin is dwindling. Google's play store is now growing at a faster rate than the Apple app store. It's just a matter of time.
Just to name some
Gems with friends and some other zygna games not avaliable
Popcap games aren't usually as up to date as other devices
Alot of adult swim games aren't avaliable (ie amateur surgeon)
Minigore
The Sims games
Psychopedia
These are just a few random apps that aren't supported or not on play store

I forgot to say I love the play store design and overall store better than the app store its just the games themselves I'm wondering about

I know I love Android and the note 2 coming from having an iphone for 4years. But when something like a game app doesn't exist or is not supported there isn't much you can do except ***** and wonder why.

Ps this isn't about comparing phone to phone just asking a question about why Google isn't getting the games. I should of been more clear and stated games and not utility apps/phone enhancements. Also if this us a thread you don't like or think is lame or beneath you don't post or read it.

It could be that Apple has exclusivity rights to a game for a certain amount of time as well, kind of like Xbox and Playstation. Usually one will have exclusive DLC content, or have it before the other for a certain amount of time. Like back when Sony had exclusive rights to a couple of the GTA games for a year or two. It sucks, but that's really the decision of the company making the app. Like I said, the Play Store is growing faster than the App Store is now, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time. (I did see The Sims on the play store, by the way)

The Apple App Store sucks. When my wife got an iPhone a couple of years ago, I tried to find some battery saving apps. Nothing. Then I tried to find something that could turn off wifi and bluetooth automatically. Nothing. If you're looking for anything that will help your phone do anything, they got nothing. If you find an app that you think might work, good luck finding a free one...
Themes and keyboards etc are great, that's how you make your phone your own. In the Apple App Store, nothing.
However, if you're looking for an app to make fart noises, you have 30 pages to sift through, but they're all $4.99

I'll admit app store sucks for utilities and customization but that's apple control freak issues so you'd have to use 3rd party sources like cydia for that stuff. But for games app store gets more and more support for those games. Example plants vs zombies is missing a lot of the features like mini games that app store has. App store is a better gaming store even though android is a better os/has better phones.
