What will LG8 buy me? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So, I have been running just a rooted stock LG2 and haven't really seen any need to move to a custom ROM yet. I look at the features of all of these ROMs and don't really see anything that jumps out. Plus, I see that a lot of people are complaining about LG8.
Should I make the move to LG8? What does it have to offer?
Are any custom ROMs worth it yet? I have been kind of holding out for a stable JB.
Thanks.

Gingerbread ROM

Hello all, I've been noticing some 2.3 roms popping up lately. I've been wanting to try one of these but I wanted to know if they are actually worth it. I know the official release didn't come out yet so I was hesitant at first.
So does anyone have some suggestions at which ROM you think is pretty fast/stable? I really want to try one.

I understand your skepticism for the leaks. However, the latest builds are the best leaks I have ever seen. Stock 2.3 easily beats out stock 2.2/2.1.
Just recently tried out EH17 myself. I am currently on Hurricane ROM and love it. Frankly I think that it is better than any froyo rom. Smooth, more RAM available, and the AIO tweaks are great. Don't forget the lockscreen mods!
So I recommend giving it a shot. Nandroid your current set-up in clockwork. You can always go back!

Several of them are very good. Random Rom Hawk, Bamboozle, Hurricane, Go green, Scrambled....these are all great! I suggest giving each one a try to see whichone you like better or you may just flash the first one and be happy with it. Make sure to back up anything you deem important such as contacts or SMS messages.

Personally, I can't stand any kind of themeing, so I always go for the stock or near stock roms. I would have stuck with GB but then I found that my navigation did not work on EH06. I went back to sfr and have not tried EH17 at all.
Sfr is great, as good as gb and better than any leak. and I'm sick of having to redo my phone everytime I want to try something, and then having to redo it again after I hit a bug. No more leaks for me.

From the buzz I'm hearing the official Sprint release will be EH07. Of course you know rumors. It's supposed to elease arounf the 18th. I've tried all the Gingerbread ROMs and prefer Hurricane and Olympus
I'm going to try the hurricane rom later when I get home. I've been looking through the thread and its seeming pretty nice. We'll see how it goes!

To Root or Not To Root?

Coming from an Evo 4G that I had rooted right after I got it... ran a ton of different ROMs and that phone seemed like it needed to be rooted to really make it run right... I'm finding that I really don't see any benefit to rooting this phone (other than free tether)...
So, am I missing something? What are these improvements in these custom ROMs that are making it worth it to root... this thing is so freakin awesome already I just can't think of anything else I need...
There are tons of perks in the custom ROMs: themes, TSM-mod, cm7, MIUI, faster lighter ROMs, debloated, Rouge recovery to name a few. If you flashed roms on the EVO im sure its just a matter of time until you dive into the ET4g dev section.
ignore this

What's "TSM-mod" and "Rogue recovery".. Or more precisely, what are the advantages of them?
I've looked around at the Dev section but the phone's been out long enough that it's hard to find threads that actually explain what all this is.. it's just assumed that I already know...
I know, I know.. use the search fxn... you dont have to flame me... I'll find out on my own

Reason to flash=MIUI.
Calkulin's rom is great for a boost of performance on a stock rom as well...
Honestly, if you're happy with the phone as is, then maybe you should just leave it as it is until something comes along that makes you change your mind. Having a stock/unrooted phone is not a sin

Tsm is like Cyanogen settings from the cm7 roms, but compatible with Samsung ROMs, Rogue recovery is clockwork recovery but redone, the options are grouped better, better theme, a lot less pain in the ass to use.
Oh yea check out qbking77's videos, he does a lot of how to's and reviews of ET4g ROMs, great stuff.

I completely agree. That's what I do with my phones. It also gives you time to get really comfortable with the new device as I know quite a few things change going from an htc phone to a samsung device. I generally will use the phone as is out of the box until I find something I can't bear, don't like or if there is actually a defect of some sort in the software. At which point, I check xda and see if there are fixes for said problems. If there are fixes and you're comfortable, root it and give it a shot. I'd suggest Calkulin's as it kinda seems like the go to rom for just about everyone on here, then maybe venture into the abyss. I'd suggest staying away from modems and other mods until you understand them and are comfortable.
I agree as well, nothing wrong rocking a completely stock phone. There are times I run a stock (debloated) rom just for a change.
I'm running a rooted with no fancy rom phone here. The only reason I haven't flashed a rom yet is because my first phone had GPS problems and this one doesn't. And plus, my evo with 3.0 rom has its own issues too. So I just don't want to jinx it. My wife's phone has the GPS problem. Thinking about bringing it in to the store for a replacement.

Thanks man, for the info and the referral. I'm comfortable enough with rooting and tech that it's just a matter of learning the different names for things, as it all goes by something different over here.
And thanks to everyone else for their input... I think I'm just gonna run it stock until I find something I can't live with.. Because right now, I love this thing.
Ok, scratch that.. I rooted yesterday.. just couldn't help myself, I need to be able to tweak the notifications toggles...

To be perfectly honest with you the way to go is stock rooted. None of the TW roms are really offering anything so much more exciting than stock TW. But definitely root it. On the practical side you can use the Wireless Tether app (if needed) block ads (a big thing for me) and access all files through Root Explorer. IMO those are reasons enough to root. In a nutshell, if you root your stock ROM you aren't really altering it and it is super easy to revert to non-rooted so there really is no downside as far as i can tell.
I debated the same thing... to root or not to root? I rooted and i am glad i did!
I held off for a while too but miui and the xplode roms are awesome. Just something different.

Well I rooted and flashed Calk's ROM... within 5 minutes it was having freezes and what not so I said screw it and restored my nandroid of stock... I'll be stayin here for a while.
Edit: not saying anything bad about Calk's work... It prolly would've been resolved with a wipe and clean install and some tweaking but I'm just wanting fast stability right now and stock TW is super fast and my battery life is awesome

Best ICS Rom

Look Im seeing A LOT of people complaining about the new update, I want to know which ROM is the best to use without the problems, I prefer to use ODIN and was wondering if the one click full restore for FF18 is having those problems or should I just wait for them to fix this problem before doing a system restore. I just got my phone back from samsung and was waiting to root for the update to come out but if there is problems with it I just prefer to wait.
Just do the one click full restore ff18. There is absolutely nothing wrong with ICS. Don't let anyone tell you there is.

I used the stock leaks for quite a while, then tried out the tFF18 ROM (plus his custom kernal) from Agat. It seems like my battery life may have dropped slightly but overall loving it. There is nothing wrong with stock FF18, it is great also. When I upgraded to tFF18 I didn't wipe the phone and all my apps / settings worked fine still, because it's based on the stock ROM.
Gingerbread is definitely smoother as far as scrolling goes...
Other than that, the improvements in ICS seem to be to my liking. Google is definitely taking after cyanogen and putting in some stuff that more people want to see on the greatest OS Android!

ICS
yeah dude, dont let anyione tell you that you get ****ty battery life, scrolling is like a crazy whore running after crack, the buttons sometimes dont work, the settings crash, facebook doesnt sync, exchange has problems. also
* Roaming Guard now ignores settings and alerts you continuously to improve your awareness.
* Adds a cool stuttering effect to chrome browser just in case you missed it the first time.
* Allows you to better focus on your phone while running or driving by not taking commands from a Bluetooth headphone set while the screen is of.
* Allows you to scroll from top to bottom of a list in .02 seconds even when you dont mean to for faster navigation.
* And many more!
It's all a small base of about 60% of the users that are experiencing this. And even thou our devs are great its hard to make a diamond out of ****.
Just saying FF18 should have just been a leak. Nothing more. There's a lot of really cool features ICS brings, but all the ICS roms that are there now are just themed versions of stock with different launchers. Just saying... 14 roms with all different colors... wtf?
This update, of course, does nothing to fix Sprint's horrid network. So, if you have a crumby data connection now you'll have one after as well =)

Just because you have issues does not mean there are issues. I can have a ferrari that does not run right, that does not mean that ferrari's are bad. I sync exchange with no issues, never had bad battery, and settings do not crash. I would check your own setup and not blame ICS.

Stock does not really mean anything, It could be apps your running in the background. I have used the leaks since day 1 and have my own ROM, and the only one I can say is an issue is scrolling.

see how applauded the update is.
Do you even know what you are talking about? Obviously not. Had you actually installed one of the '14 different colors' you would realize there are significant differences between custom roms. These devs spend vast amounts of time making these roms, various tweaks for battery life and performance , custom interfaces, and a ton of added features you will not see on any stock device. There is a hell of a lot more to it than choosing that perfect shade of blue. Don't discredit others hard work when you obviously have not made the slightest effort to educate yourself beyond looking at a couple of screen shots.
To answer the OP most of the roms are good, try them for yourself everybody has a different style. Start with a few of the Team Venum roms and go from there.
OP, if i were u, try out a few cuatom ics roms to see how u feel about them. I myself tried 2 - supernova and blu kuban. I ditched supernova bc it was laggy and slower than calkulin's v3.0 gb rom. But it was stable for me. I ditched blu kuban bc it wouldnt let kakaotalk work correctly and some apps would crash a few times. Otherwise, i loved it and wished i could've kept it on my phone. For now, i'm back with calkulin and just waiting for an ics setup that can meet and/or exceed the calkulin 3.0.

It is not hard and FF18 is not crap. Just my opinion.
FF18 plays nice on some devices, bad for other devices since the FF builds. I'm running the calk 1.6 ICS ROM with agats custom kernel and I honestly couldn't be any happier... I can keep my captive button lights on and haptic feedback on. It's a dream. On stock ff18 or custom ROMs, it all goes wrong out of no where with issues like captive buttons not working sometimes unless I turn off screen and on or hit the vol button. I guess its a 50/50 chance.
I haven't tried the blu k ROM simply because it is over themed for my usage... maybe if there was a non themed version I would.
I just find it funny people have been begging for ics since forever.. Now it's here and people like "aww man f*ck ics.. It's not all that"... Don't let anybody steer you from going to ICS.. I was using GB since forever and like ics better &haven't had bad battery life.. Actually been better... People Also need to take in consideration what they run and have more realistic standards for battery life... It may take a while to find a set up you like but it's possible

Important questions regarding ROMs

I plan to purchase a Wind Mobile galaxy s3 tomorrow and I was wondering about the compatibility it will have with ROMs.
I have heard many different things but from what I gather it is that Wind phones are compatible with T-Mobile Roms except for the ones that include things to do with radio. I don't fully understand what this means but I hope I can get a further understanding from the community's response to this thread.
I am not sure if the Nightly even comes with a radio. If it doesn't I heard people saying it would work as long as the rom does not come with the radio. I have no idea what all this means. I hope someone can clarify
The plan I have is to buy the Wind S3 and flash CM10 Nightly straight away with the Lean Kernel. Will it work? If not, is there a way for me to fix it?
Thank you :fingers-crossed:

Patience! Its only been a few hours. Ive seen threads go for a day or two before getting answered. Just a matter of when the right person comes across it.
To answer, yes you can flash our roms, but no you cannot use our radios. I'd recommend backing up your current one in case of accidents.
Cm10 should be fine but unless its been addressed expect somewhat slow data speeds and a few other bugs.
Stock on this phone is fantastic believe it or not! So give that a fair run too.
As far as kernel, just make sure the one you use is compatible with CM.
CM roms dont include radios. Most roms dont if they are flashable in cwm or twrp. Be careful if you're using an odin flashable as many do include the radio.

Could you go in to more details about this subject? I do not understand why the data would slow down.
Thanks
Im not sure what the cause is but ive heard a lot of people complain about slow data with cm10, mostly in the modem threads. Udated modems helped for some but not much I dont think. Only other thing ive heard is that its a known issue but the cm team had no plans to address it until they have a stable release.

For me, everything works, but keep in mind I DO NOT USE THE STOCK APPS...worthless email/gmail/message. I use Handcent, and K9 email. They work perfect. I uninstall all stock apps on every rom I load, the only bug I see is screen flicker ( which has a fix), the only thing I do not like is when charging and screen is off, no led, so I never know when it is complete on the charge other than using a prog that sounds when charge is complete....I like the nightly's. I flash update every night. Also using AnTuTu speed test, I get high 9000's on the benchmark, my friggin phone IS FAST!!!!

Do you mean the stock update in a zip format to flash on the phone? check the Samsung site?
Or do you mean roms supporting the new jb release.. if so check the development threads, plenty of the devs are working on updates for it, most likely not out yet
I was looking for the same thing.
In my case, stock rooted JB CWM flashable. I would like to move to JB without chancing the counter. I figured since I have CWM already I would like to flash JB without touching CWM. I haven't seen an ROMS based on the official JB release, or are there?
Bacon rom is stock debloated. Rogers based though. Just need to add att apn
I'm looking for the same thing. Been searching for hours and can't find just a stock rooted AT&T 4.1.1 cwm flashable zip. Does anyone know where one is? Can't believe it is this hard to find.

I have been looking for one as well for days.
I just want a AT&T LK3 which has been rooted, Dodexed, zip aligned with SupeSU in there.
I want to modify it myself, so I want to start from the beginning.
Unfortunately people in here aren't on the ball like over in the Tmobile or Sprint forums. Over there the day their's got offically released, there was an Odin install and a CWM install also immediately. But here no one has released one yet.
Bummer is I don't know how to do it myself or I would. There are many experienced people on here whom I am sure could do it in like 10 minutes. I really wish someone would.
I can't stand people who complain about the devs here. The sense of entitlement makes me sick.

Ok I'm glad I make you sick...so lets move on.
My point was that the devs/whomever on here are well experienced on doing this sort of thing and can do something this simple in practically no time. As I said, the other forums had all that on day one.
I am not asking for a fully modded rom, I just want the basics so I can mod it myself.
I don't think I am acting entitled, I can't change my oil in my car or fix my dishwasher, so I call people who actually know how to do it. Same thing here.
I appreciate what everyone does here, but you KNOW that they have a CWM flash just sitting on their hard drives that they fixed up BEFORE they started doing any mods, so I am just asking anyone who already did what I was asking for to release that cause you know the devs already did it anyway. I would say PRETTY PLEASE if it would help.
I am not trying to be a pain or come off that way.
I can modify a rom myself, but I need a starting point to work with is all.
Here's some Pepto for your stomach.
