USB file transfer from pc problems - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi all, I have been having this problem for a while and now i am tired of it. For sometime, when transferring files from my pc with win 7 to the my phones external sd, its moves really slow. the progress bar, time remaining and speed all moves very slow. When using any other devices it works correctly so i know its something with the epic. For instance, it may say its going a 1mb per second but it sits there and about every five or maybe even more seconds, it updates the speed or time remaining but shows barely any progress...

Do you have the official drivers installed? And dumb question is it a high speed USB port (2.0+)
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA

It could be related to the speed of your card, the quality of your cable, and even which usb port you use. Or a combination of the three.
Try changing one of these, especially the cable or usb port and try out an app called sd tools. It will give you more information about actual read write speed to your card.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ales.veluscek.sdtools&hl=en

What do you mean official drivers? And thank you sir i will give that app a try

The official one from Samsung. Windows will find a driver to use for this phone(generic). You can find the download link in one of sfhub's one click Odin threads.

I haven't used XP for a while (other than at work, where I am not responsible) but, I think Start -> run -> msconfig.msc might help you out. You can disable anything you want during startup. You can probably also tell what you are disabling because it will tell you the path to the executable. After turning a bunch of stuff off, reboot and see where you are at.

Do you think adding to the virtual memory heap would help I only have a gig of ram and 2 gb of vm so far wuld more be helpful? I have a lot of hard drive storage something like 160 or so, anyways ill look at the processes

I am sure you already know this, but virtual memory is much, much slower than hardware RAM. That said, increasing virtual memory probably won't speed up your system, but will allow for additional multitasking (running more programs). Windows does a pretty good job at managing the virtual memory and keeping the more accessed information in real memory.
In short, I don't believe that increasing your virtual memory will make much of a difference. 2GB should be plenty. Additionally, if you are using a 32-bit version, Windows can not access more than 4GB of RAM (including video RAM, and hardware RAM) and that limitation may include virtual memory. Typically, 3GB is about all you can use with a 32-bit OS.

The task manager... right click on start bar (not on a button or application) and start taskmanager. All applications have an associated process but not all processes have associated applications (at least applications with a GUI). From the process list, which will have what you want to get rid of, you will probably have to google each process name to determine what it is and how to get rid of it and if it is safe to do so. When I do a fresh XP install with anti virus and a minimal application set, I have somewhere around 40 total processes.

That looks pretty good. One thing to remember is that "cached" physical memory is almost free memory. The operating system has files and other data that is cached in RAM for quick access but can easily be dumped to make room for new information.
So, now the question is, what is the problem/symptoms that you are trying to solve?

Msconfig is really meant as more of a trouble shooting tool. It's not proper to use it as a maintenance tool. If there's anything that you want to disable at startup you really ought to handle it in that particular programs options. Or consoder uninstalling tje program entirely.
Better than the stock windows defragment is a program called defraggler.
Also, you might try a windows XP forum. I think they would be better help.

Well according to y'all its not my memory I guess I'm running the cpu more than it can handle its a guitar program in basic terms it turns my computer into an amplifier if you need to know its POD Farm 2 and when I try to add a "dual" which is like using two different amp setups it chops the sounds and won't work correctly and was thinking it was my memory not being able to free up the needed ram but I guess my lil 1.3ghz cpu isn't cutting it

There's 'natural' fragmentation of files that happens over time that a defrag'er can't always fix. A clean install is kind of like the ultimate defrag'er in that sense.
p.s. sorry about the double post.

Since I had such good results last time I posted about a pc I was wondering something else.
My mother uses her pc for work and it requires certain system files that work like a network or a passage to her works servers. Something in system32...idk anyways... I was wondering if it were possible to image her pc and flash it onto the new pc I'm going to be getting. If not She really just needs xp on it and needs internet explorer 6 and her word 2003 it has a lot of auto corrections/ shortcuts in it. The system files can be put on it by her tech support. Basically she needs xp on her new pc with her internet explorer 6 and word. What would be the easiest way to do so?
I know I could find internet explorer 6 somewhere.
Also for the word I could transfer the auto corrections to the newest word 2010 but I hear it has to be done for each auto correction and she has upwards of 500 hundred.

PC No Longer Recognizes Galaxy S3!

My AT&T Samsung Galaxy SIII is suddenly no longer being recognized by my Windows 7 x64-bit PC. I don't recall doing anything to the phone or PC that would've caused this. It's been about a week or so since I last connected the phone to the PC, and I recall that for about a week or two before that, I was having trouble in that I'd connect the phone and nothing would happen, so I'd have to disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it, then the PC would recognize it and the Explorer window would open up on the PC showing the internal and external storage on the phone. I'm trying to transfer more of my music to the phone, and it's extremely frustrating to not be able to do that!
Any ideas what's wrong?
Dennis
Have you tried another cable? The one that comes with the phone is crap.

power off the phone, remove and re-install the battery. worked for me
If you backed up the Imei recently you may have used the qpst app to set the phone to connect to a port instead of MTP. Did you recently do this ? If so you need to set usb settings back to MTP.

I had the exact same issue not too long ago. I tried re-installing drivers...pulled out battery..different usb cable..factory wipe...and also tried three different PC, and still S3 wasn't recognize. I solved this issue by using CyanogenMod 10 ROM....not to mention this rom is so much better than the stock rom . I'm currently on the NEW CM10 Night 8/19 build, and so far no issues connecting phone to PC. By the way i'm on Rogers and you can get the rom here..http://get.cm/?device=d2att

Yeppers... with other problems I've had/read, I think the latest H1 leak has major problems... which may explain why it hasn't been officially released.
Once i moved over to the H1 build, that was when my pc (w7) stopped recognizing my phone, as well. i can get into it if i mount it as camera, it will let me explore the phone/sd card but i just use Kies to transfer....

Thanks.

Well I'm kinda new to this website but I also work for sprint and I have the galaxy s3 . First make sure you have the right drivers 32bit or 64bit . Make sure its right for your computer . We could get the driver at Samsung .com under support find you phone and hit downloads. At the bottom of the page hit software you should see your drivers. The when you connect make sure you have USB debugging on and use media . That's the way I do it . If still not working place the video o. A SD card and plug in to your computer . If that don't work the video might not be right . corrupted .. I would want that on my computer. . Next question have you try other videos.? .good luck .

I tried to duplicate this issue and I could not. Can you post a sample video? In the meantime, please try the following:
1. Install a codec for your PC e.g. DIVX or K-Lites. That may help the choppiness
2. If that doesn't work, do a full factory reset
3. If that doesn't work, please take your device to a sprint store to get it inspected as you may have a defective device.
I hope this helps. Thanks.

Windows 8 Not Recognizing My Note 2?

I have installed the proper Samsung Drivers and my PC running Windows 8 isn't recognizing my note 2. I Can't access my internal memory or the external SD. Anyone have any ideas? I tried searching through all the threads on XDA and I couldn't find anything.
I didn't have this problem with Windows 8 it did take a while for it to recognize it the first time... try a different port and wait a while

Mine did it one time .... uninstall the drivers and reinstall then it will work .... I used the note 2 root tool in development to install them

Same issue, no amount of driver installing/reinstalling seems to fix it. My phone won't even recognize a pc.
I had this same problem using a usb cable that wasn't the original that came with my note 2. Once I switched to the original cable it worked.

You can try a different port that's what worked for me. Or uninstall the usb driver and let it install again manually.
Or you can try this to see your ext. SD

Note 2 won't connect to car stereo via USB

I just got my Note 2 yesterday, haven't rooted it or anything (yet) and I'm having an issue connecting it to my car stereo via usb. The stereo says USB not available, but when I connect either of my Skyrockets (one stock No root, the other on Embryo 6.4) they connect almost immediately. Any ideas?

I'll trouble shoot it tonight. I think it's something with the way it connects because it says "connected as a media device" which is something I'm not familiar with. I'm used to phones simply saying "usb connected".
Something else I've noticed is when I connect it to the pc only the internal storage is visible but my sd card isn't. I'm sure that's been addressed somewhere already but idk.

Chances are the stereo is expecting UMS connections rather than the MTP/PTP the n2 is providing. This is why you see the phone as a device on windows rather than as drives.
UMS: usb mass storage
Mtp/ptp: media/photo transfer protocol
(Please correct me if I borked those names)
Also, threw / through.

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

Yeah, I did a quick Google search and read that Samsung disabled usb mass storage on newer devices. Pretty stupid, but it explains everything. Thanks for the help guys.
