camra makes phone hot(iron maiden concert) - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I was at a concert last night in Phoenix (iron maiden, which rocked)
the problem I have or was having was everytime I turned on the camera, then snap a pic, then I would hit the back button so the that the camera would not be in an "on' mode..I would stick the thing back in my pocket and it would get hot.. like really hot. only way I could get it cooled off was to restart it or turn it off.
anyone else see this?

Dude, that's so weird. I was at the Maiden show in Salt Lake last week and the same thing happened to me. I thought that it had to do with my data reception, because when I was trying to upload a pic to Facebook, that's when it started getting really hot, and wouldn't upload. I was running Trinity Alpha 19 at the time, and had to flash back to Faux's kernel mid-concert so it would cool down. And it worked.
Btw, Maiden was so sick!

they are getting old... and half the crowd was just like me.. aging hipsters... but I thought it was a good show. I took my 15 years old son who had never been to a "metal" concert.. so 80 bucks x2 to t shirts x2 and a couple of beers( for me not him) and I was into this thing for like 240.. it was an ok concert but not 240 bucks worth.
anyway.. back to this heat thing.
I have not flashed anything. im running stock. but turning on the camera reall heats up the thing and drains the battery.

That's odd man, since you're stock I don't know what to tell you other than to start thinking about a warranty trade in with T-Mob.
Yeah, so many mid-life crisis mullets. I can honestly say that I felt out of place, and that's a good thing.

Time to get an exchange, that is definitely not normal. i use my camera constantly here at work, and it NEVER heats up.

Seen them 5 times, I know what you mean. I was going to suggest another kernel, looks like you done that...good luck.

You could try fast reboot.

Aaaaaaaargh! I dropped my gum. JK. My screen is white

Ok so I'm not sure if any of you know mebecause I don't post much, but I think I posted something about my Dash's screen cracking. I walked out the room and came back and the screen was cracked. Well I replaced it a few months ago and this one turns white on me for no reason like 2 weeks ago. WTFudge? I'm kinda lost and wondering what's goin on. Any ideas? Is there ANYTHING I can do before I buy another screen?
wow seems like i answered a thread just like this yesterday.
is the whole screen white? if you pull the batter and restart the phone is the screen still white?

Yeah I did that already. I did that as soon as it happened to see what would happen. I tapped the screen a few times because it's done this before and after about four or five taps it was normal again. None of that worked. I didn't flash it to the original but I did flash it to The most ecent Energy ROM. This kinda sucks. Lol.
try opening it to see if the screen and the ground is connected all the way.
and do you have your dash overclocked?
Yeah I did that already, but nothing really happened. It kinda sucks because now I'm usin this Typhoon with WM6 that doesn't seem to wanna flash. Lol. Life kinda sucks when it comes to this phone. It's time for the new one. And I think it was overclocked like 1 or 2 ROMs ago.

Evo fails in freezing temps!? Or is it something else?

Alright guys got a really weird issue and I would like to know if anyone has had this problem before. So I was at the gym for about 2 and a half hours tonight, and I left my phone out in my car. I live in the midwest so temps are starting to get pretty low. About 30 here tonight. Anyways I came back out when I was done and my phone would not turn on. When I plugged it in it showed no led. So after about 45 min I pulled out my battery and popped it back in and magically my phone came back on. I flashed the new ziggy kernel last night and I use os monitor to keep it set to smartass but I don't know why this happened? I guess im just puzzled is there an issue with the battery in really cold weather or did the kernel cause it? If you guys could give me some input I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm thinking its the battery since it is well known that batteries underperform under low temperatures.
Same Here...
I live in NYC, making a long story short...i left my phone exposed to the cold for a few hours and when i came back my phone wouldnt turn on either... no light, no charge, and after a bit in m pocket poof just started to work... I mean i know Everything has a Cold/hot temp, limit i think iPods are around 20 something degrees,,, i wasnt aware of the evo until now...

Thanks for sharing sir. It makes me feel a bit better that was my thought but I didn't know for sure ill have to research the battery itself and see what temp it can handle

Just overvolt it I wonder if we can do that via an app, AFAIK it requires a kernel level change

Well I am undervolting with ziggys new kernel and didn't seem to help. I think the battery is just a battery period. The cells go crazy at 32 degrees.

It's fairly well known that batteries don't do well in cold (thus why you see in car battery commercials "specially made to handle cold weather", etc. etc.) so that could be an explanation.
On a side note, LCD's don't do well either (think about it, Liquid Crystal Display). If you want an example, go in to Best Buy or something just after they open, while the building is still cold, and check out the LCD TV's; they'll all be lagging and fuzzy pictures.

I said overvolt not under. It would make it run hotter, so the temps wouldn't affect it so much. Put it in an inside jacket pocket, that tends to get my phone pretty hot on its own.
I live in Virginia and occasionally leave my phone on my car. Temperatures have been in the teens and single digits lately. No problems so far, but I'll probably be more cautious now. Hope it doesn't affect my battery in the long run.

Thats my fault, read your post quickly last night and didn't pay too much attention I guess I just saw "volt". Overvolt would not be a choice of mine though I would rather not risk frying my phone.

Impressions & Questions

I've had this phone for a little over three days now. Overall, I absolutely love it. The only smartphones I've ever owned were the Evo lines, so this was a big leap for me, and I'm not sorry. However, there are a few issues with it.
First is a strange antenna issue. I have the Sprint version of the Optimus G, updated and rooted. When the network mode is set to LTE/CDMA, the 3G antenna will only turn on very rarely, leaving me entirely without internet access. I was about to return in when I realized that the issue is solved when I change it to CDMA only. We don't have LTE in my area, so I don't mind leaving my LTE antenna off. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my phone alone, or if it's a software issue that others have.
Then there's the screen. The screen itself is BEAUTIFUL, and I have no issues with it. But the screen scratches like crazy! I am extremely careful with my phones, and this one in particular. I kinda bought it on impulse, so I didn't have time to order a screen protector for it (one should be in tomorrow though). So I have been treating it with extra, almost paranoid caution. It's only ever been in my pocket while at work (nice khakis, so nothing harsh), and otherwise it's been undisturbed on a table. I check my pocket for any abrasive lint often since there's no screen protector on it. But the screen has developed about a dozen or so scratches, and one of them deep enough to distort the screen when it's on. I don't know how this is happening (the deep one happened in the space of five minutes, inbetween two texts, and was merely put into and removed from my pocket.)
Also, the battery life is kinda crappy. I live near a tower, so always have full signal. At work I'm on wifi, so that's not an issue. The battery scarcely lasts through work, with VERY light usage, and is nearly dead by the time I get home. Today, from the time I woke up with it at 100% to the time I got to work (about 2 hours, with constant near-full signal), the phone dropped from 100% to 76%.
Are these normal issues, or am I the only one experiencing them? I want to love this phone so much, but these seem like serious flaws to me.
I too had to change to CDMA so dont know what is wrong with that. And the scratches is weird ive dropped mine a few times and dropped my keys on the screen and nothing. And my battery is phenomenal. Seems like you have a dud.

In regards to the screen....this may sound like a stupid question and I don't mean to offend, but did you remove the temp screen protector that it comes with? I've not had one issue with my screen being scratched and I can't say I've been all that good to it for the last week.
I've had the phone for a full week now and I have not experienced 3G drops with LTE/CDMA mode enabled. Also haven't scratched it either (thankfully). I constantly put it in and out of my jean pocket throughout the day, so I don't really understand how yours got to be that way.
As far as battery life, I too don't see the issues you're having. Typically I pull it off the charger at around 7AM and can easily get 12 hrs+ with normal usage. Even with Android OS taking up the bulk of my battery (seems to be awake a lot). Lot's of people saying its a battery drain bug, etc. etc. etc...but if I'm getting 12 hrs easily, and 24 hrs with light usage, I don't have a problem with that.
-Screen brightness at 60%
-Wifi on all the time (connected at home and at work - probably helps, lol)
-2 Gmail accounts pushed constantly, Facebook messenger, and a few other apps that auto-update on schedule (news readers n stuff)
-My commutes to and from work - I listen/watch podcasts and/or read. Which means the screen is on the entire time (approx a 1hr commute). All said, my screen-on time sits at around 3 hrs for me.
I'll post some screenshots in a minute...

No scratches or weird battery issues here. My first two days the battery life was horrid. Afterwards I did some update and poof like magic.
Anyone have any info on the boot loader unlock initiative? I miss aosp
got this phone for sprint yesterday after having a BB for 5 years .. and i'm loving the beautiful screen,.
Only hiccups is maybe the battery... Yesteday i had it full on 100% then after 2 hours went down to 80%..
I'm currently in the office charging the phone to 100% will remove it and do normal routine on it and see how long it last.

Haha, I actually checked for this before posting. It is absolutely something I'd do.
After reading these and other comments about the phone, I realized I probably had a dud. I went to the Sprint store a couple days ago and swapped it out for a new one, and it's running beautifully, with none of these issues. So I guess I just got a faulty one. Thanks all for responding!

Good to hear! Sorry, I had to ask...my girlfriend had the same problem with her phone she got a couple months ago and it was because the temporary screen protector was still on the phone!
Anyone finding it gets kinda hot? I've read some owners complaining about this and it was mentioned in some review somewhere. Wondering how widespread it might be. Might be that people keep all 4 cores running 24/7. I don't see the point if you're web surfing, talking, texting. I keep it on Eco Mode most the time.
I've only notice it get warm once or twice, but even then it was barely noticeable. But I've had eco mode on since I got the phone, and it's not hesitated or stuttered once.

We are thinking of switching to Sprint, so we went to Best Buy and picked up one of these phones and I'm very impressed with it so far.
Actually this is the second one because the first one had a factory defect in the chrome around the screen. It get home with the 2nd one and notice there is a speck of dust under the glass.
I'm going to return this one in a day or two and see if the third one is a charm. If not, I'm not getting a forth one!
Any suggestions on a different phone for Sprint if this one doesn't work out? To me the only other phone to get would be the Note 2 and then the GS3.
A little help here guys. I was planning to return mine because of battery problem. Like i tried playing Dead Trigger, current battery is 54%, 30 brightness, sync and data is off. I played for good 5 minutes and it dropped to 48%. One more test is after it got 100% full charged, i unplugged it, Wifi is on still 30% and not using it for a couple of minutes it dropped to 97% and im not even using it!
So i want to return it.
The question is:
Do i have to pay for replacement? I got mine at BestBuy for 99$ almost a month ago.
2nd is will still they accept it now it got scratch on four sides. Any suggestion?

As long as it hasn't been over 30 days and the phone doesn't look "abused" then you should be fine, also if it's been under 30 days i would add geeksquad protection especially if you plan on rooting, i thought it was a bad investment at first, then when talking to a tech after my evo4g bricked he just said to "make sure the device doesn't power on" and they will replace it needless to say i took a ballpeen hammer too it and got a shiny new one 2 days later.
I took the LG back and got the GS3. I've already had to clear the cache on the galaxy because of excessive battery drain.
If the GS3 fails me, I'm gonna try the Note 2.

Yep, on eco mode the battery is outstanding. The phones is faster than my wifes S3 on eco mode, and I get nearly 2 days without charging. I had the note II for a week and that is just as good but was too big for me. This phone impresses me everyday.

[Q]Heat at upper right corner?

Hello,
I played a bit on my Nexus with wifi and was chatting on facebook for about an hour and after that my phone got really hot.
I sent it back to service, came back with changed mainboard but the same thing happens. Sometimes if I push my playtime it keeps slowing down, and getting hot really.
Can't fry a chicken on it, but it's around 60°C as I am assuming.
Is this thing normal?
What's ur ROM and Kernel?

[Q] Not overally happy with my G3 :(

Hello,
I bought my G3 2 weeks ago now and im already on my second one. My first one was taken back due to it crashing out whenever an app that uses the camera was used. I originally didnt think much of it as it only did it on snapchat for the first day but the day after i went to a motor show and was taking pictures using the proper camera app. Yet after taking a few pictures and a video nearly every time i went to take a picture the phone would crash and the only way i could get it to respond again was to remove the battery. So after all that i took it back to the shop and they replaced it for me. Ive now had my second one for a week and im STILL getting the same issue but it doesn't happen quite so often and to top it of this one seems to have a creaky back cover. Its a real shame becuase i love the phone and was really looking forward to having one but after all this im starting to get abit fed up.
I was just wondering if anyone else has simular problems and see what you guys think i should do ?!
Thanks, Sam
I'm typing this message from mine right bow and I absolutely love it. My previous phones were iPhone 2g, iPhone 3g , iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, note 2 and now g3 and I can say it's the best phone I've used. No issues here at all.

I love my G3, too. Mine is a F400S. It can heat up quite fast at times, but the heat is barely noticeable. Furthermore, I left it alone with relatively little usage and it went from 100% to 83% in 24 hours.
