Bml/mtd? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Excuse my stupidity, but I'm just curious.
I'm about to get an et4g and id like to know if it has the filesystem type Change like on the original epic; where the official Odin Rom is bml and cm9/aokp is mtd, and how once you're on mtd you can't go back to bmp without Odin

For that I would read how to not brick your phone here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
and make sure that your in a safe recovery. Agats recovery is safe for ICS restore and flashing. so to restore a back up flash the kernel in odin/mobile odin boot into Recovery then restore back up.

Our phone uses ext4 file system. Don't have to worry about bml vs mtd like the og epic. No worries though I was wondering the same thing when I made the switch a few months back
Just make sure you read up on the emmc bug before you flash any roms as that can cause hard bricks.

If you are on Stock GB then your fine its a safe recovery. Flash GB to GB or GB to ICS. ICS to ICS or ICS to GB is another matter Agat's kernel(TW) and Chris41g kernel(AOSP) are safe for ICS. ICS to GB i'd use EL26 Direct boot kernel to GB recovery and restore or flash GB rom's from. Odin or Mobile odin work.

Yeah, if you follow the procedure you will have your BML ROM converted to MTD, back it up as soon as you successfully boot to MTD, then you can try CM9 and restore your MTD converted ROM when you are ready.

I think you can just Nandroid back (I haven't had trouble doing that before) but it might cause some problems. If you want the safest route, Odin back.

Odin full restore back to stock, use sfhub's auto root, then add recovery, reboot to recovery, nandroid back to your GB ROM. Also you don't have the annoying yellow triangle.

Mobile Odin works. I just flashed a GB recovery/kernel combo and wiped from there. The bricks are coming from the use of using CWM bundled with an ICS kernel. If you do any flashing with a GB kernel/recovery, you'll be good to go.
Note: You wont be able to boot on ICS with a GB kernel, so just boot into recovery if you choose that route.

Flashing CM9?

Do I need to be on EL26 OR EL29 to flash CM9 or does it not matter? What do you guys recommend I do in order to flash this rom? Thanks guys!
EL26 but the ROM won't install if your not on a gingerbread Based ROM

so restore to EL26 because currently i'm on EL29 and want to flash CM9.

Correct. If you are on a ICS ROM use the Odin restore pack by Sfhub to go back to Gingerbread ROM then flash the CWM5 recovery as noted in the CM9 and install and boom! Ready to flash CM9

You can still flash a GB kernel even though you have a ICS ROM installed. It won't boot the phone completely(it'll freeze on the Samsung Galaxy SII screen on startup). But you can still get into recovery and download modes. That's the benefit right there. You don't need to flash all that though. Which ROM do you want to be on? The part about using Odin to go to FE22 and then go to EL26 has an extra step in it. You really don't need to flash the FE22 before going to EL26.

Ya some of them have CWM or a different custom recovery. What ROM is it that you want to install? What I mean is you don't need to flash to multiple other kernels/ROMs before eventually going to whichever ROM you want.
Go to the dev section and find sfhubs fe22 Odin one click and flash your phone with that. The reason you do this is so you will be on a stock rom where you can update prl and profile. After you do this, using Odin (with only auto reboot checked in top right corner), flash the el26 cwm kernel. Boot into recovery and from here you can flash back to Frankenstein or blazer whatever you want. You will need a computer.
So...
1. Fe22 Odin one click
2. Boot into fe22 stock rom and update prl/profile
3. Odin the el26 cwm kernel
4. Flash whatever new rom you want.
