I currently have CM9 alpha 6 with the ff18 modem installed.
When I make calls, both ends sound very garbled. I tried to trouble shoot by enabling/disabling 'enhanced voice privacy' as well as messing with the settings in DSP manager. I also tried disabling Google Voice, thinking that could be the source of the problem. Nothing worked.
After all that, I figured I would try reflashing the modem to el29, ff31, or fg20. When I tried in both the included CWM and also el29-directbootCWM-v3, I would get an error "e:error in (status 6)" and the flash would fail. I also tried to flash the tar.md5 versions of the modems through Mobile Odin, everything would appear to flash properly, but when I rebooted and checked the baseband version it still said "S.D710.10 S.FF18".
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I use this phone for work calls I'm not new to rooting / flashing but this is a new issue for me. Thanks!
[Edit] The modem flashing issue is resolved, but I still have the call audio problem.
Any suggestions or ideas?

Are you able to update profile and PRL on CM9? i don't think so though, but I've never flashed CM9 yet...

I was able to update the PRL & Profile using the Temporary Stock E4GT from emmc (http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/2012/05/temporary-stock-e4gt-from-emmc.html). Still did not help with the sound quality.
Long story short, I finally was able to flash to another modem using Odin -- I am now on FG20. I used the temp stock e4gt from emmc to update the Profile & PRL, but i still have horribly garbled call audio.
Any recommendations on what else to troubleshoot? Or should I just wipe & reflash?
...hoping this isn't actually some hardware issue.

hi all, been following the Epic forums for sometime, finally decided to start getting involved
Im experiencing an issue with EB13. when it first came out I Odined EB13, everything worked great. Since then I have ran into the same issue every time I switch ROMS. I will flash the new rom, about half the time it works great. The other half I get no connectivity at all, and the UI is sluggish. Going into about phone, I see that my baseband is unknown, and my hardware version is unknown.
I can usually get it to connect after re-flashing and re-flashing the rom a few times.
Also, noticed that once I get it to actually connect and I get "bars", I will of course then do a fresh Nandroid, after a full nand backup the issue reappears.
Anyone know what this could be? weird thing is just that its so random. I can get it to work most of the time, just have trouble when switching roms.
Set up:
CWM3.0.0.6/EXT4
Just flashed SyndicateROM today.
EB13 (sometimes)
FIXED
FIXED. all the computers in my home are Macs so odining the modem again is not a quick fix option.
Booted into CWM3 and Fixed Permissions.
Booted up and connected.
Interesting stuff
I've been experiencing the exact same problem as the OP, but for me, running fix permissions in CWM (2.5.1.0) doesn't (always) solve the issue.
It seems to happen anytime I flash a zip from CWM, and goes away randomly (usually after sever flash attempts and modem restores with Odin).
Really hoping someone has an idea what's causing this issue, because it makes flashing things very tedious knowing half the time I'm gonna be stuck with a useless phone until I can get the modem working again.
I'm wondering if it's somehow a hardware issue, since it doesn't seem to affect everybody.
If it helps, I have the stock deodexed EB13 ROM with the Genocide 0.3a kernel.
I'm definately thinking its a cwm issue.. ill even just do a nandroid backup for kicks, reboot and it will do it sometimes.. eventually I might odin back to eb13 and reflash cwm and custom rom and see if I can get it to go away

Let me know if that works for you, because it happens to me all the time, and it's really annoying.
There also doesn't seem to be a simple way of fixing it.
Seems to just randomly go away as suddenly as it comes on.
Okay, so I just odined back to stock EB13 and I still have modem issues.
Currently going all the way back to DI18 to see if that fixes things, but is it safe to assume it's a hardware issue if even Odin doesn't fix it?
Okay, so the unknown baseband issue is back for me, and I seem to have made some headway on what causes it.
I had just tried to initiate a ROM backup in ROM Manager, but it hung while rebooting into CWM (on the Samsung Boot Logo).
I think I might have been doing something with ROM Manager last time it happened as well.
Can anyone who knows more about this stuff than I do think of a reason it'd happen when using ROM Manager?
I'd very much like to nip this issue for good, because it's making it hard to justify using CWM/root if I'm gonna keep losing the phone part of my phone.
Can I bump this? My battery died, and when I turned it back on, I have the unknown baseband, unknown hardware problem. I've been googling all night, and haven't found a solution.
I have been running ERA Legendary v3 on the EI22 Modem for a few weeks with ACS Recovery that I've had installed since it came out.
Any help would be awesome.

And I've tried flashing modems/roms and odining modems/roms. Even Heimdalling modems/roms. No luck. I've mainly tried ec05 and up. I will try older ones right now, if I can find them.
I've looked for the answer to this but have been unable to find it. I have a Telus T989 and flashed a couple of the ICS leaks and have experienced little to no signal when running them. I flashed back to a GB ROM and signal is fine. Does anyone have any idea on what to do? I've wiped and super wiped numerous times without any luck.
Hey I had the same issue but after a couple reboots it seemed to work fine. If it doesn't work after reboots then flash again and re try. Mine seems to be working but sometimes when I boot up it says no Sim installed.

I reflashed numerous times with a couple of the leaks with no luck. Rebooting does nothing as far as helping. I reflashed back to factory settings and rerooted and signal was great. So I reflashed one of the leaks and it was back to weak to no signal. So I ended up restoring back to just having root, no custom ROM. I don't know what the issue is but I guess I'll have to wait for a T989 leak to drop.
I have the same issue with the same phone
have u tried the "Mr.X Radio Mod"? Pick the radio u have found to give YOU the best signal on gb. Downloadna cwm flashable zip of the modem and open in winrar or amy archiving program. Delete system folder. Now flash any skyrocket ics rom, and then flash the modified radio.

I recently upgraded from Blazer 4.0 rom with stock EL29 kernel- and modem to 4.1
and the only bug I can find is no mms function- It says sending- and it also said failed 2 times. tried sending to other people as a test- still not sent- although it says sending- had no problem with 4.0. I even tried switching kernel to gunslinger
but all that did was eat up battery at a ridiculous pace. ( used tegrak to set clocking to 1200, . I also flashed zip file for mms fix- and it didnt fix. Hopefully- someone can help out- tried clearing out sms cache. no help there.
I also wih there was a easy to id log & description of what zip file/fix for a respective bug- I really like this rom...but- contacting phantom hacker is- TOUGH.
( I know hes a very busy and talented guy...)

I have 4.1 as my daily driver never had an issues with mms... Did you check if your mms url is right... I have mine on boost mobile cause that's my carrier so yours should be what ever carrier you have.. Also try a profile update and a prl update
If the updating prl doesn't work. You could try wiping the cache and dalvic in recovery then reboot. If worse comes to worse wipe everything and install again.

Try wiping everything and re-flashing.
For me, I had to connect to 4G because the 3G would not do.
Also, are you using any sort of program like GO SMS, Handcent, Chomp SMS?
Update profile and prl then reboot. This always worked for me.
Any mms in the "sending" stage wont go through unless you send another mms in that same thread. I usually just long press the pic and delete message then send another fresh

Use Root Explorer and go into /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases and delete the telephony.db file. I do believe that will work.
I think the only bug in 4.1 is the stock video codecs. 4.0 plays videos flawlessly in the stock video player but freezes on 4.1 or it just won't play avi's or wmv and etc.

Just start rom scratch my friend. Stock el29 with root one click then add cwm then back to blazer 4.1. I have heard about people complaining about that lately on Facebook so I could be sprint not your phone.

Hey,
I was trying to install the latest JB update for my AT&T GSIII (UCDLK3) using the rooted insecure Odin file (the one that doesn't trip the counter). Before I had it, I had Serenity 1.2 installed on my phone. Everything was working fine, up until the point when I started using this rom. I had noticed that when I make calls, there would be an echo, but I didn't really notice it until I was using my bluetooth headset since there was a short delay. At the time, I had thought it was an issue with the Beats audio app that I installed, so I uninstalled it to no avail. After that, I tried resetting back to stock by re-reruning the Odin file. After that, the audio problem still persisted, so I tried installing the latest Sammy kernel (KT747), but even that doesn't work. I tried using the Odin file for two other phones, both without any audio issues. Does any one have any ideas what's causing this? Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
I recently rooted my SPH-l710 that was updated to 4.3 using this method: http://honai-android.blogspot.com/2013/11/how-to-root-galaxy-s3-sprint-sph-l710.html
Everything worked well and then I flashed the CM11 ROM (snapshot) and again, everything was working well, I could make calls, send and receive text messages and had mobile data. This afternoon, I found out that I had not been receiving text messages, I could send them and people received them, but when they replied, they never came) through on my end. I rebooted, nothing changed, then I did a factory data reset, again, same issue. Then I flashed this stock ROM (deodexed): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541900 and still had the issue. After installing the stock ROM, I updated the PRL profile and I'm still having the issue. At this point, I have no idea what else I can do the fix this issue and I'm hoping someone here can help me.
Thanks in advance.
Did u try reflashing the modem? If that doesn't work its something on sprints end.

I'm shocked that root method even worked for you...did you update your profile as well and then reboot the phone when on stock rom? might wanna get back on the stock rom and try...other things you may wanna try when all else fails, reflash back to completely stock 4.3 which you can do by using my guide in my sig for bricked phones, which you're gonna need to do if you have to go to sprint for it, they won't touch it rooted
I did not try flashing modem, I was under the impression that the modem deals with data and since I had no problems there I didn't bother with it. I did try rebooting after going back to stock rom, but that didn't help. When I first installed cm11 I was having problems with getting Google Voice to work, but I restored the back up a CM 11 when I first installed it and tried google voice again. This time it works and I'm able to send and receive text messages and access voicemail through the app so as long as I don't come across any more issues I'm happy with how it is now. I appreciate all the pointers and if I ever have to go back to stock, I'll refer to this post, thanks.
