i would like to know how can i do to get a 2g networkd "edge"" on lg nitro HD?
Im sure this isn't the only way but probably easiest. Get cm9 and there is an option for it in the settings menu. Works like a charm.

Can't you just put in a 3G apn in ? I believe you can under wireless & networks - more..mobile networks- Access Point Names-hit the search button- new apn and enter one that is for 3G only and click on the one you build as your apn and voila.

From my experience after changing to gsm only and then back to WCDMA preferred i was unable to pick up an LTE signal anymore, requiring to perform the unbrick method to re-aquire LTE connectivity
2G/EDGE only!

Hey everyone! I have a couple of concerns/issues, I have been digging in the forums, on tmobile, etc., I have called my mother and she did say I was special (confirmed Im a loser). Hope you guys can help. I am on the tmobile network, I had an LG G2X (awesome phone), had no problems with root, roms, etc., I just got and unlocked a LG Nitro HD (930) which is from AT&T, I added in the APN for tmobile, which I am able to make calls, text, and get internet, but I can only get 2G/Edge speeds. Does it have to do with the baseband? When I go into the settings I do not have all of the options I had on the G2X to select the network type and so on. I purchased a new phone so that I would not need to renew contract, the phone is better, faster, but slow as a turtle on the internet. I would also like guidance on how to root? There is so much on the LG nitro it is somewhat confusing, I would not want to do anything to ruin the phone. What is the best method, easiest, safest way to root my LG Nitro? I have seen forums with different methods, and so on, the device does not seem to be too root friendly, if one of you experts could provide guidance on how to? best method? what is the best way to load a custom rom, and the best rom out there with good battery life? That would be great. I had CM9 on my G2X and it was great. My phone info is this:
baseband - P930-mdm9220b-v10j-Feb-26-2012-xx1
Kernel v 2.6.35.11
Build GRJ90
Android 2.3.5
Looking at the other post, I thought this would be the best one to post it on.

Hello,
Given the information you have provided about your phones current software you will need to go through the un-brick process in order to downgrade your phones software to a version that can be rooted. Even though your Nitro is not necessarily bricked at the moment the un-brick process will restore your phone to a root able state. I would recommend using mattman86 "[GUIDE] Unbrick, Root, And Install CWM" thread also located in the general section of the Nitro Forum. This guide is a bit easier to follow than others found around here. As a result of the un-bricking process your phone will be rooted. From there I would suggest installing ClockWorkMod recovery and performing a backup of your phone in case you do brick your phone in the future so you will not have to re-do the un-bricking process. As for custom ROM's I would recommend CM9 Stable release. I get awesome battery life with CM9 Stable on my Nitro. As for your data connection, I would try to use a different T-Mobile APN if one exist and see if that works. Hope I could be of help. Click the thanks button if I helped you!

The reason you can't get faster data speeds is because AT&T phones are designed to operate on AT&T's 3G network frequencies, which are not at all compatible with T-Mobile's. Basically, it's impossible to get 3G or faster speeds using the Nitro HD (or any other phone sold by AT&T) on T-Mobile's network, nor will it ever be possible. If data speed is important, you should return the phone now and buy a phone that is intended to be used with T-Mobile instead. (That, or switch providers to AT&T.)

That is correct, you still need to downgrade, your baseband indicates you are on the February update released by LG and you need to downgrade to the original October firmware that came with the nitro when it first shipped. The thanks button is located at the bottom of each post when signed into your xda account, you can only see the thanks button when viewing the forum from a computer.

hi so i recentlly got a droid incredible 2 and unlocked it to use on tmobile. now my question is can 3g be enabled to use on tmobile network?
i have it working on edge so far but it love to take advantage of the 3g network . plz help!!
Congratulations, you have posted in the wrong phone forum. Also, I don't believe you would have access to T-Mobile 3g unless the Inc2 supported their AWS 3g bands.
figured id post in the wrong place and thanx il check out if it does support the bands
No problem. According to this site:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_droid_incredible_2-3938.php
the Inc2 supports gsm 2100 which I believe is one of the same frequencies of T-Mobiles 3g network. I can't help you any further since dealing with frequencies and other networks isn't something I know of.
Can it be used with att? Like say with the straight talk e71 sim card ?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
OP, how do you make it work? Have you verified with Tmobile sim card? I unlocked hinc2, but it shows "no service" with tmobile sim under GSM.

yep it can be used with any sim carrier. just do not know if it will support their 3g data because the adr6350 opperates on frequency 2100 and not also the 1700

you have to set up a new apn for t mobile. you have to go into settings-wireless and networks- make sure you have it set to gsm not cdma to make it work. - go to mobile networks- GSM/UMTS options. - acces point names and if its blank press the menu button on the phone and select new apn.
this is what you need to write in it.

I've been trying like crazy to get mine switched over from Verizon to T-mobile and was soo happy to find this!! I'm having a problem finding my apn numbers and that data listed. When ever I try to switch mine to GSM or Global it say there is no SIM card installed and automatically switches back to CDMA. How can I stop this or how can I change the info another way. I have it rooted already and I'm running the ClockworkMod. The phone doesn't have service but I have activated the Tmobile card already, just can't get the bloody thing to work!
Any help you can give you'd be extremely appreciated.

Did you get this as a pre-owned phone from someone else? Is it Sim unlocked - do you know?
If the answer is yes, when you go into APN - you need to create the above and SAVE it first. What ROM are you running?
I've uploaded 2 *.jpg images - not sure if it's showing up correctly? Can you reference & compare the screens and share what yours are?

No this was my phone to begin with. I just got tired of Verizons BS and switched to the Walmart Family mobile that is a third the price, but I couldn't afford a new unlocked phone.
I did manage to unlock the Sim, called Global Support from Verizon and they gave me the code no questions asked.
After I unlocked it and got it to recognize the Sim card I found the APN section and got all that setup like it was shown on here now it's working perfectly!
I'm running the stock ROM. I would like to upgrade to CM7 or something like that but I don't know how to upgrade my Kernal to accept the upgrade so I get stuck at the White HTC boot screen whenever I flash a new ROM. So I just defaulted back to 2.3.4 til I can figure it out.

Great, glad to hear that you got it working on Walmart's T-Mo family plan now, it is "slow" on mobile data but just as good when you are on WiFi. We retired our 2 DI2 last month and ditched Big Red, I hear ya - we saved 50% each month, more than enough to pay for two Nexus 5.
If yours is rooted/bootloader unlocked with CWM, you don't need to do anything with the stock kernel - just leave it alone, find the custom rom's zip file that you want - copy to mSD card, boot into recovery - do a full wipe, flash & reboot, then setup as usual & restore your apps. The stock VZW rom has all the bloatware that are useless, especially on other carriers - use Andy Bone's stocked Rom instead, or SkyRaider's Zeus or TSM Sense, all 3 of them works 99.89999% in GSM (using 2 of them now) - read the FAQ / Sticky first, as it is detailed & explained it all with how to's. I have those roms in offline storage - PM me if you cannot find a working public links to download them.
Prices for brand new 4G LTE smartphones are mad crazy, I understand - VZW wanted about $300 each to upgrade + fees + ETF & 24 months contract, if you shop around when ready on eBay, you can find some pre-owned ones that are solid with custom Rom, and reliable with reasonable prices on the 3G HSPA side, i.e. saw pre-owned Motorola Atrix 4G with 4" screen in good conditions for about $70 - in exchange, you get much faster 3G/HSPA+ speed with mobile data (if you need it on the go)
Have a safe & happy holiday.
Skyraider is probably one of the best sense roms on gingerbread with a few tweaks to it. Thing with unlocking the sim on this phone to work on a different network u will eventually start to have issues since it was designed for only verizon cdma and global gsm only. A lot of the gsm is still in the work. When unlocking any phone to work on a different network ur mostly always gonna have an issue with 3G bec gsm is on a totally different band and unless the phone itself was designed specificially for gsm itll be an issue ull more than likely have. An apn change might fix it but not a lot of roms have the apn settings unless its more the line Cyanogenmod. There is an apn settings shortcut in the playstore u can use to set it. Me personally i wouldve stuck with Verizon because the majority of the worlds population is cdma service towers and tmobile has less coverage then sprint or at&t but too each his own. Good luck and hope the apn change helps gain u 3G
Hi all! After spending some time helping others get mobile data connections on their i747 and i747m up and running again, I've come to the conlclusion that a lot of hassle could be saved if a lot of the problems and solutions I and others have encountered and used were compiled in one place for easy reference.
I intend to come back and update this thread as more problems / solutions become available; feel free to post here if there's something I've missed that should be listed here.
To avoid confusion in terminology between stock and AOSP ROMs, I'm going to refer to network types by the name of the technology that powers them and not 3G/4G labels. For a quick reference, EDGE normally corresponds to 2G, UMTS normally corresponds to 3G, HSPA/HSPA+ show as 4G on stock and H/H+ on AOSP-ish roms, and LTE shows as 4G LTE on stock and 4G on AOSP-ish ROMs.
So, find the section below that most matches the problem you're seeing, and see what we can do to help!
----
Table of contents
1. General pointers / I'm not getting any data at all!
2. I'm only getting an EDGE signal / data.
3. I can get UMTS data, but not HSPA / HSPA+ data.
4. I can get HSPA / HSPA+ data, but not LTE data.
5. Carrier-specific issues
----
1. General pointers / I'm not getting any data at all!
Before you get started trying to connect to specific types of data networks, make sure that your SIM card and mobile data plan support the type of network you're trying to connect to (this is mostly a problem with LTE these days, but if you have a very old SIM card you might also run into problems with HSPA/HSPA+).
Keep in mind that your telco probably doesn't have all of its networks available in any given location; if you can't connect to a particular network in a given location, there's a good chance that you just don't have network coverage for that type of network in that area.
Also remember to check if the mobile data toggle on your phone is on (Settings -> More... -> Mobile networks), and that it's set to connect to the appropriate network types (e.g. that you don't have a "Connect to 2G networks only" toggle on when you want to use something other than EDGE). In particular, those on AOSP ROMs (I have not double checked if this is doable on stock) can dial *#*#4636#*#* to enter a settings menu, go into "Phone information" from that menu, and scroll down to a setting entitled "Set preferred network type" which shows what types of networks the phone baseband is currently configured to connect to. This setting has a tendency to be reset while flashing a new ROM, so it's not a bad idea to check the setting on a regular basis.
If you've done that and you're still not able to connect to your desired mobile network type, the next step is to check your device's Access Point Name (APN) settings, under Settings -> More... -> Mobile networks -> Access point names. You should obviously have an APN related to your current service provider active. Although most stock images and ROMs should have these filled in properly already, it's a good idea to check them against a known good set of settings; as a point of reference, you can find a list of LTE APN settings over in this thread.
Lastly, one step that several people have reported success with is to reflash your modem baseband firmware. The images are available in this thread, and are flashable with most non-stock recovery images.
----
2. I'm only getting an EDGE signal / data.
This is most commonly caused by your phone losing its IMEI, which can occur sporadically when flashing new ROMs. This thread contains information about and a tool for restoring your IMEI to your phone.
----
3. I can get UMTS data, but not HSPA / HSPA+ data.
Outside of the problems listed in 1. above, this mostly seems to occur in Android 4.2-based images. Android 4.2 is designed to "ramp up" to HSPA/HSPA+ data only if the phone is actively using data; that is, if you're not actively using data (in a non-LTE area), your phone will default to a UMTS connection - this is to save battery life. Thus, chances are you can get a HSPA / HSPA+ data connection, and your phone will just not do so until it needs to do so.
----
4. I can get HSPA / HSPA+ data, but not LTE data.
Most of the issues that cause this scenario are covered in 1. above - lack of LTE coverage, not having an LTE SIM, not having an LTE APN set, and/or not having a correct network type set are the major ones. Beyond that, you may want to refer to some of the LTE-specific threads in these forums for additional insights, such as this thread.
----
5. Carrier-specific issues
Bell: You may need to have "national data roaming" enabled for your device to connect to the Bell network.
Rogers: Several ROMs have been known to get the Rogers LTE APN data incorrect. As reproduced from other recent threads, here's what I believe to be a known good set of settings:
APN: ltemobile.apn
Proxy: <not set>
Port: <not set>
Username: <not set>
Passwors: <not set>
Server: <not set>
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
Authentication type: <not set>
APN type: either "*" or "internet + mms" (reports vary)
There have been reports that the old APN settings may need to be deleted entirely for this to stick.
----
I hope this helps some of you out, and saves you some time and effort in getting things up and running again.
If you're encountering issues that I haven't addressed here, and/or have solutions to add that I haven't thought of yet, please be sure to come by this thread and make a note of it here.
Good luck!
Nice post, very helpful, I would add step one to check to see if the IMEI is still there, cause most people don't check that first....saw one thread where we were helping a person, and whoa, he had no IMEI. Just a thought....otherwise perfect info.

Thanks for the suggestion; I've found for the most part that people who lose their IMEI and don't realise it will report it as "I can only connect to 2G/EDGE networks", hence the section dedicated to it above. If people seem to be getting confused about it, I'll probably change up the ordering in the guide.
Thank you for this post. I agree, very helpful. Unfortunately, I still face a bit of an issue. Having referenced the "I can get UMTS data, but not HSPA / HSPA+ data" I found that that did not exactly apply to my situation seeing as I cannot get HSPA/+ at all, even when actively using data. I then looked at the first option and having reviewed that, I typed the code into my phone's dialer and went to phone information. My I747U is set to LTE/GSM auto (PRL) and I found no option for HSPA/+ which could be the root of the cause. Any further suggestions on how to get my HSPA/+ back? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi - LTE/GSM (and/or LTE/GSM/CDMA) are the settings I would expect for your phone to be able to connect to both LTE and HSPA/HSPA+ networks.
What ROM are you running, and are you sure you have the right APN settings to be able to connect to an HSPA+ network? Have you been able to get an HSPA/HSPA+ signal in the area under other circumstances?

What ROM are you running, and are you sure you have the right APN settings to be able to connect to an HSPA+ network? Have you been able to get an HSPA/HSPA+ signal in the area under other circumstances?

I've been running CyanogenMod 10.1 nighties and I'm fairly confident that I have the right APN settings, but I'll go review that. Running CyanogenMod 10 I was consistently getting HSPA/HSPA+ and even briefly restored from a backup of it to make sure my phone was still capable of connecting to it (it was).

There have been some reported hiccups with CM10.1 and data; you might want to check over in the nightlies thread for the latest info.
I'll also take the opportunity to point out that CM10.1 was one of the first ROMs where the ramping behaviour described in the OP was observed.

Just flashed latest modem and everything seems to being working great now. I tried the process earlier, but now it seems to have done the trick. It's embarrassing how much stress this has caused me the last few weeks. Thank you for your help. Many respect points.

Ive been having the same problem the last two weeks and no one seems to be able to help me out. The best advice I can give is to change your APN to the lte one and its supposed to work from there, people usually have the most success doing that. But it didnt help me so any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Last time I had that issue, I created a new ATT APN and changed to it. After a reboot, the phone changed from CDMA to the LTE preferred mode.
I can't tell you if that stuck though, because I flashed another ROM the next day and never saw the issue again.
Here are some APN's you can use. I used the last one:
Name: ATT PTA
APN: pta
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80

This is my exact problem, I have hyperdrive which I love, but I have no LTE. I am having the same problem as OP and I have not been able to find a solution. Any help would be great!
Believe it or not, I somehow found a way to fix it for me. Now Ive literally tried everything I could find on the topic and nothing seemed to work. Kind of on a whim I decided to go to Network Operators in the settings and selected ATT, after that for some reason I was able to pick LTE/GSM/WCDMA. I disabled data, dialed *#*#4363#*#* and changed it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA and then made sure I had the right APN selected and re-enabled data, and next thing I knew 4G popped up! I hope this helps someone. I was infuriated for a few weeks without 4G and the fix was much simpler than what everyone kept telling me to do.

I'm having this issue in that I am only able to select the following two options, and have them stick;
GSM/WCDMA auto
GSM/WCDMA preferred (this option is currently selected).
If I try to select "LTE/GSM/WCDMA", it immediately goes back to GSM/WCDMA preferred.
I'm currently using StraightTalk on the AT&T network. I know the sim I have in the phone probably won't allow access to the LTE network (I want to get new sim cards to get LTE through StraightTalk), but I should be able to at least select that network option, and the LTE radio would scan, and find nothing.
I'm on the 9/13 nightly, stock kernel.

You will need a new sim and it will allow you to select it. They will overnight it to you for free for 7 bucks on the website.

^^ That didn't work for me.
I previously had an Axon 7 that got stolen. I ordered another one on Swappa and can't for the life of me get it to connect to LTE on AT&T in Southern California (Los Angeles area) when my first one had no issues at all. I wonder if the sim card they gave me isn't an LTE card. It's really frustrating.

Theres an app called 4G Only Network Mode on the playstore that allows you to access more in depth settings of your device, then you can manually lock the phone into LTE mode or whatever mode you prefer.

Hi,
I spent last night getting my t-mobile galaxy s4 to work on ATT. I did a lot of research on the subject and it wasn't that difficult at all. I bought the phone off of EBAY.
I was able to accomplish this from all of the tools here and a little research.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335109 (hopefully fixed link)
The first thing i did was root the phone and install CWM. I then used the sim unlock found in the link above. The next step i took (because i like custom roms on my phone) was to install TASK650's AOKP rom. I flashed the rom and followed his instructions.
After the restart, I went through the welcome screen and shut the phone down. I put my sim in and started the phone. I noticed i was getting the H, but no LTE. This led me to more research. The fix was easy once I found it. The APN needs to be pointed to the ATT phone option. It defaults to wap.cingular. After about 5 minutes and a reboot the LTE appeared and after the speed tests confirmed.
This is not a guide. I am just sharing my experience. If you do this please do your own research as you can do damage to your phone. There are risks involved, flash and modify your phone at your own risk.
Why are you posting the same thing here that you did in the att area?
actually i'm thankful that he posted it. I'm trying to accomplish the same thing and its good to know it works. I tried the unlock sim procedure and it didn't work, although I didn't follow the newer instructions, so I will try again.
also, your link seems to be broke
Guess if you post the same thing everywhere you may get an answer. New concept. I'm gonna remember that.

Sarcasm doesn't go through text very well.. :\ I wasn't actually being serious. Check my posting history, I've been flamed for telling someone to do their own research... I've caught crap for recommending someone to, at the very least, use an already established thread on the subject to ask their question which has been asked a thousand times... but meh.

The AT&T APN's I have used in the past with success to get LTE are:
Name: ATT LTE
APN: pta
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,mms
For the "phone" APN, just replace "pta" with "phone". The other values should be the same; although I never got LTE/4G with that APN.
Things not listed are "not set"

Are you certain you're in an LTE area? I pulled those straight off the phone I was using prior to getting the S4; and I was getting LTE..
Ohh, one other thing, not sure if it applies, but still... depending on what kind of phone you are coming from, you may have to call AT&T and have them tweak your data plan. I've seen reports that when coming from an iPhone to Android, you will still be on the iPhone data plan and unable to receive 4G/LTE.
Yes I am in a lte area I used to get it with my iphone all the time then I switched to a s3 changed the plan and got it with that now I have an unlocked s4 through tmobile

I really appreciate you creating this thread. It helped me out a lot. just ignore the trolls as they are of no value.
Thanks to your thread and a little searching i too was able to get everything working. I moved to tmobile from att just to find out service in my area was very bad. Switched back to ATT and brought my tmobile galaxy s4 and everything works great. using paranoid android rom from tmobile forums and works perfect on ATT with LTE.
I was wondering if its possible to make a gsm rom only for people like us who have a sprint phones unlocked and we only using gsm service such as AT&T and tmobile.
I do make custom roms and make little changes in roms, but i never porting gsm rom to cdma device before. I tried to flash tmobile and att rom on the phone, but i got no service "imei and baseband" showed as unknown.
Im ready to buy you $100 whiskey bottle , and im sure there are many of us need rom like this.
Btw stock looking is a preferred
Thanks

I can work on putting something together
I finally got my two devices unlocked. I can put something together that is geared towards GSM only. The reason they are not working is the framework, buildprop, and mainly the kernel do not use the hardware the correct way. Even though they have gsm capability kernels/ framework from the GSM only devices will not establish connections the same way.

After updating to 6.0.1, the GSM network is more stable. I'm using Att and now LTE and 3G both working perfectly.
I feel now my phone is pretty much as good as stock AT&T phone, except the sprint bloated apps and other sprint stuff. Like voicemail and the ability to dial 611 without jumping to sprint app. I'd love to have stock AT&T ROM and I'm sure others would love to have stock T-Mobile rom and international stock ROM....
