[Q] Sony Play R800x Wi-fi Problem - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wi-fi used to work just fine but now all of the sudden it connects and says obtaining ip address then starts over and tries to obtain the ip address again and gets stuck in that loop. I'm running fxp cm 9.0 132 and the included fxp kernel.

I'm running the same rom but I've yet to test wifi, I guess now would be a good time I'll report back when I test it.
*EDIT* Just tested wifi using CM9 RC2 with included FXP kernel, No problems whatsoever, I'm actually surprised!
It could be the security you have on the router, I'm using WPA/WPA2 PSK

I have tried it with 3 routers...2 of them were open security. If worst comes to worst I can probably wipe my data and cache and re-install cm9 and it'll probably work again since it used to work perfectly. That being said if it happens to be a hardware problem (I doubt it) then I guess I'm just screwed.

Yeah at that point I'd go ahead and wipe everything then re flash the kernel / rom

[Q] Wi-Fi disconnects on CM9 and DHCP on assigning IP

I have latest CM9 FXP 125 (but this happened with previuos roms as well) 2 days after flashing the rom the WiFi connection doesn't work unless I use static IP. The Connections arrives at authentication then IP assignement and loops again without ever connecting.
Reflashing the Kernel does not solve the problem. Re installing the rom via CWM does but I'd rather not do this every couple of days.

Hi, I had the same problem. I couldn't solve it permanently, but the fastest solution I've found is simply to delete the folder: data/misc/dhcp
and then reboot. It regenerates, and wifi is back to normal (for a while )

[Q] Wifi and CM9

Hey,
After fresh install of FXP 128 my wifi worked for few hours, but later it refuses to connect to any wifi, because the "signal is too low" or something.. how to fix this?
Actually try getting close to your modem/router first and connecting again or if its still unable to connect reboot your phone

Already did that, didn't help.
Then CM9 probably has an issue with wifi, i guess you'll have to wait until an new RC comes out
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28442213&postcount=2998
Delete /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
I have no files in dhcp/
Another wifi problem
I was also having trouble getting wifi to work using JJ hybrid mix 3.1 + Arcknight kernel 3,3 and 3,4, had to use stock kernel
The solution from JJ'to reboot after installing he's kernel didn't work for me.
I've had cyanogenmod 7.2 installed prior JJ.
I've wanted to post this error to JJ's thread under development, but I don't have enough posts made.

I'm sorry for mistake. I used to have some similar funny situation... wifi in my brother's house is protected by WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] and my arc can't connect to him router (authorization problem ?!) . I have the same router and the same protection protocol and in my home wifi works good.
(Sorry for ungrammatical English)
I'm also having a poor signal even when my router is very close to me...I have 2 WiFi routers and from both I get the same issue...I have deleted the files on dhcp folder but doesn't have the dhcp_list folder neither...
I have installed CM9 and previously had SE standard ROM 4.0.4
Any idea what to do?

Router crashing with new Jelly Time rom

Hey guys,
I tried searching and could not find a similar problem.
Since getting the new rom I have noticed that my wireless router has been experiencing connection issues. all my devices show connectivity but i dont have access to the net. Anyways i decided to have a look and the android is creating multiple Ip entries on the router with the same mac address and everytime I turn the wifi off on my phone the problem does not occur.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Have you tried going into development settings and turning of Android Debugging or ADB over network? Just a suggestion, not sure if it will work.

nah cant be that, I had them turned off already.
Thanks for replying anyway. I searched google and its a pretty common problem with no concrete solution, might need to flash the rom again.

Why don't you try binding the MAC Address to a static IP so it's no longer able to create multiple entries on the DHCP Table?
tjturko13 - have you tested to use another standard 802.11 Modus - instead "n"? Just switch it at your phone or router.
What router do you have? Can you update the firmware? ^^

i dont think my router allows this, the only option I have is to specify if I want to allow mac filtering.

its a isp provided cablel router that does not let me mess around with FW but i have checked and it seems to have the latest FW
where do i get the boot.img file from?
Did you get your new rom over the air? (Stock rom)
Or did you flash a custom rom?
You have to give us more software informations about your rom. Is your device s-on or s-off?
Stock rom you need the right RUU exe file. Just doubleclick - yes yes yes
Custom rom you need to download the custom boot.img.

Working:
Wifi Tethering
camera - not perfect still buggy
Mic
accelerometer
audio
bluetooth
wifi - may not support some channels

I'm sorry for you.
- You could even try to change the wifi-channel to 1, 4 or 6 and disable wifi-security in the second attempt for test only.
- Try also to set a static ip in your phone (for your wlan).
- If you are bored you can reset the whole router to its factory defaults and leave all standard. Just enable wlan (and the isp connection) - but dont change the default ssid, wlan-security or channel etc.
Otherwise I have no more ideas.
With google you can find dozens of users crashing their routers with android or ios phones . Good luck dude!

Ive had this problem to since switching to 'randomblame's kernel based ROMS (jellytime CM, jellytime aokp and jellytime by PACMAN - Paranoid, CM and AOKP).
Apparently it is a kernel issue and the only thing you can do is some of the things above or here
I was here hoping there might be a fix... I tried static IP, changing the router channel, WIFI never sleep etc etc etc.
The only workaround I found so far was to turn off wifi when Im done, it only seems to break when the phone is inactive for 5 minutes +.

Exact same problem here. It took some time before I figured out that my phone was overwriting my gateway's MAC address, but I finally saw that message from another machine in my network:
Code:
arp info overwritten for 192.168.1.254 by 91:31:58:5d:e8:34
1.254 being my gateway's IP. I also tried giving my phone a static DHCP entry but it just didn't change anything. Any useful sysctl maybe ?
FWIW, it seems I "fixed" that issue by making my routers MAC address association permanent on my (manageable) switch. That obviously don't fix the real problem, but does not shut down the router's NIC. FYI, on a GNU/Linux machine, this is done with the arp command, i.e.:
Code:
# arp -s 192.168.1.254 00:ca:fe:ba:be:00
192.168.1.254 being your router's IP

Going back from 4.2.x to 4.1.x

Hello all,
I'm planning to go back to 4.1.x (AOKP milestone 1) since the WiFi tethering on 4.2.x is broken.
I still have the AOKP flashable zips and gapps. Do I just simply copy the ROM and GAPPs to the root of my SDCARD (when mounted via USB on my PC) and start flashing away when in recovery mode?
I now the 4.2.x has a different file structure compared to thd 4.1.x so I'm hoping that the contents of the SDcard root (seen via the PC when connected to the USB) will not be deleted when I flash back to 4.1.x.
Is my understanding of flashing back to an older ROM correct?
Thanks.
WiFi tethering isnt broken on 4.2. Maybe it is on the ROM you are using but it has worked fine for me on CM 10.1 and Carbon ROM. But if you want to go back, I cant say for sure what will happen to your files since I have never downgraded. I assume your personal files on your "SD Card" will be safe and will be there after downgrading though.
I tried Bigxie's deoxed, tried Android Revolution HD 10.x, and Rootbox's 4.2.2 nightly including both official releases with the same result where WiFi tethering doesn't work. In my case, the client that is trying to connect will connect, IP is assigned but it won't be able to access the internet.
As of yesterday, I also tried Muzzy's ROM with the same result. I'm hearing that 4.2.2 changed how the tether flag is set, and gives the carrier more control over it.

Hmm. I'm not sure. I am on Verizon. I dont know if another carrier would cause problems with it.
Thanks for the repsonses JS. I'm still googling away to find out any more fixes. Worse comes to worse, I may just rever to 4.1.x.
I used bigxies deodexed until rasbean 4.2.2 was released and tether regularly with no issues on either. My N7 just works, for my laptop I have to set security to WPA2, on open or WPA it won't gain internet access. Have you tried that?

It's working just fine on me gnex. CM10.1
Thanks, I will look into rasbean 4.2.2.
I tried setting the WiFi tethering to open, WPA and WPA2 with the same results. It connects to my phone, but no internet connection.
I'm beginning to think this may have been set/limited by my carrier recently.

I borrowed a friend's SIM card, installed it in my GN and enabled wifi tethering and it works. It looks like it has something to do wtih my current carrier.
My assumptiom that it worked on 4.1.x and stopped working on 4.2.x may have coincided with their wifi tethering policy changes.
Now I can stop looking for that special ROM. Case closed.

Wifi issue

Hi guys... my n7 wifi wouldn't connect. It says "obtaining ip address" and just stucks there... all other device work fine with my home wifi((( it does connecet to other networks though((( maybe i need to set something for this particular wifi spot? help please!
Make sure you don't have MAC filtering enabled, if you do, disable it, let it connect, grab the MAC address of your device, add it to whitelist, re-enable filtering, save config, and reboot router if needed.
If not MAC filtering is enabled, reboot router and try again, if still failed, post what model your router is.
Did it stop working randomly? Did you flash a new Rom, and then it stopped working?

There is a chance that the problem lies here. Did you do a clean flash by wiping everything before you flashed CM? Sometimes, if you dirty flash, it will work. But most of the time, you have to wipe data and cache when switching between AOSP and CM.
