[Q] Wi-Fi disconnects on CM9 and DHCP on assigning IP - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have latest CM9 FXP 125 (but this happened with previuos roms as well) 2 days after flashing the rom the WiFi connection doesn't work unless I use static IP. The Connections arrives at authentication then IP assignement and loops again without ever connecting.
Reflashing the Kernel does not solve the problem. Re installing the rom via CWM does but I'd rather not do this every couple of days.

Hi, I had the same problem. I couldn't solve it permanently, but the fastest solution I've found is simply to delete the folder: data/misc/dhcp
and then reboot. It regenerates, and wifi is back to normal (for a while )

[Q] WIFI connects but no internet?

Today I updated my ROM from LeeDroid v2.5 to v3.0.8.2. I wiped my phone first. After this I rebooted, then rebooted again into recovery and installed the recommended radio (32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08). Then I restored my apps+dat with Titanium back up and rebooted again.
It soon became apparent that whilst mobile internet was working fine, WIFI wasn't. While my phone will connect to the router it won't connect to the internet. If I enter the local IP of my router I can browse the settings fine. I tried "forgetting" the network and re-entering security code but this still didn't work.
I restored my v2.5 nandroid backup and the internet worked fine, the radio is still 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08.
So I did a fresh install of the v3.0.8.2 ROM and tried connecting to WIFI again and again the same problem.
So my question is, is this an inherent problem with the ROM, and if so why does no one else seem to have this problem, or is it a setting issue?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Also I tried changing the WIFI channel as suggested in another WIFI thread, and this didn't change anything. Except the WIFI channel obviously.
And I tried a static IP address and that didn't work either.

You try turning off router and putting back on again? I sometime's get that in my network.
Yes I tried turning my router off for a couple of minutes then switching it back on. Didn't change anything.

Did you sort it?
I think you need to wait before the router give your router assign an ip for your phone, btw, some router donot fit all phone model
Yes thanks I managed to sort it today by following this thread
Apparently the fault is inherent to Android 2.3.3 and seems to present itself mainly with Thompson routers. It was a static IP I needed, I'd not entered the details properly the first time.
Thanks for the replies!

[Q] Home Wi-Fi Will Not Connect After Flashing

I flashed Calkulin's GB ROM and flashed the latest FD19 modem. It wouldn't connect, so I flashed back to the EL29. Still no luck. So I figured, what the heck? I'll go ahead and flash an ICS ROM. So I flashed Calkulin's ICS and still no luck.
But wait, there's more!
I don't think this is a problem with the ROM. Why, you ask? Because I can connect to my neighbor's unsecured Belkin router no problem! Also, it's happened over two ROMs and three modems. And doubly also, I had the same problem with my Transformer. And tripply also, the thread for neither ROM is lighting up with people having this problem.
I'm using an AT&T 2Wire, so to fix this, I have tried the following:
Change the broadcast channel on the router (this is what solved the problem on the Transformer).
Change the IP range on the router.
Restart the router from a browser.
Physically unplug the router for a few minutes.
Disable and then re-enable wireless from the router.
Someone suggested clearing the DHCP table, but I don't think you can do that on a 2Wire.
And... still no luck. I have to believe that this is not all that uncommon.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this?
For the record:
Calkulin's E4g 2 v1.4
Modem: EL29
Kernel: 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FD02-CL336391
Again, I don't think t's the ROM.
Is your network password protected with WEP or WPA? If it is then delete the network from your phone and add it back. Should connect after a minute or two. I have to do this pretty often when flashing between roms.
If you've already done this then I'm at a loss.

This may be a silly question but have you setup the connection again? Every time I flash a new ROM I always have to search for the network again and re-enter my password.
Verify the Password
Well, I decided to try one more thing and disabled network security. Voila! Connected in less than a second. So then, when I turned network security back on, I remembered that I had recently changed the password.
So here's my word to the wise today. If you're having trouble connecting to a Wi-Fi network, make sure you're using the correct password.
Thanks for the replies, though.

[Q] Sony Play R800x Wi-fi Problem

My wi-fi used to work just fine but now all of the sudden it connects and says obtaining ip address then starts over and tries to obtain the ip address again and gets stuck in that loop. I'm running fxp cm 9.0 132 and the included fxp kernel.

I'm running the same rom but I've yet to test wifi, I guess now would be a good time I'll report back when I test it.
*EDIT* Just tested wifi using CM9 RC2 with included FXP kernel, No problems whatsoever, I'm actually surprised!
It could be the security you have on the router, I'm using WPA/WPA2 PSK

I have tried it with 3 routers...2 of them were open security. If worst comes to worst I can probably wipe my data and cache and re-install cm9 and it'll probably work again since it used to work perfectly. That being said if it happens to be a hardware problem (I doubt it) then I guess I'm just screwed.

Yeah at that point I'd go ahead and wipe everything then re flash the kernel / rom

Router crashing with new Jelly Time rom

Hey guys,
I tried searching and could not find a similar problem.
Since getting the new rom I have noticed that my wireless router has been experiencing connection issues. all my devices show connectivity but i dont have access to the net. Anyways i decided to have a look and the android is creating multiple Ip entries on the router with the same mac address and everytime I turn the wifi off on my phone the problem does not occur.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Have you tried going into development settings and turning of Android Debugging or ADB over network? Just a suggestion, not sure if it will work.

nah cant be that, I had them turned off already.
Thanks for replying anyway. I searched google and its a pretty common problem with no concrete solution, might need to flash the rom again.

Why don't you try binding the MAC Address to a static IP so it's no longer able to create multiple entries on the DHCP Table?
tjturko13 - have you tested to use another standard 802.11 Modus - instead "n"? Just switch it at your phone or router.
What router do you have? Can you update the firmware? ^^

i dont think my router allows this, the only option I have is to specify if I want to allow mac filtering.

at the moment my router is set to just g
its a isp provided cablel router that does not let me mess around with FW but i have checked and it seems to have the latest FW
where do i get the boot.img file from?
Did you get your new rom over the air? (Stock rom)
Or did you flash a custom rom?
You have to give us more software informations about your rom. Is your device s-on or s-off?
Stock rom you need the right RUU exe file. Just doubleclick - yes yes yes
Custom rom you need to download the custom boot.img.

I'm sorry for you.
- You could even try to change the wifi-channel to 1, 4 or 6 and disable wifi-security in the second attempt for test only.
- Try also to set a static ip in your phone (for your wlan).
- If you are bored you can reset the whole router to its factory defaults and leave all standard. Just enable wlan (and the isp connection) - but dont change the default ssid, wlan-security or channel etc.
Otherwise I have no more ideas.
With google you can find dozens of users crashing their routers with android or ios phones . Good luck dude!

Ive had this problem to since switching to 'randomblame's kernel based ROMS (jellytime CM, jellytime aokp and jellytime by PACMAN - Paranoid, CM and AOKP).
Apparently it is a kernel issue and the only thing you can do is some of the things above or here
I was here hoping there might be a fix... I tried static IP, changing the router channel, WIFI never sleep etc etc etc.
The only workaround I found so far was to turn off wifi when Im done, it only seems to break when the phone is inactive for 5 minutes +.

Exact same problem here. It took some time before I figured out that my phone was overwriting my gateway's MAC address, but I finally saw that message from another machine in my network:
Code:
arp info overwritten for 192.168.1.254 by 91:31:58:5d:e8:34
1.254 being my gateway's IP. I also tried giving my phone a static DHCP entry but it just didn't change anything. Any useful sysctl maybe ?
FWIW, it seems I "fixed" that issue by making my routers MAC address association permanent on my (manageable) switch. That obviously don't fix the real problem, but does not shut down the router's NIC. FYI, on a GNU/Linux machine, this is done with the arp command, i.e.:
Code:
# arp -s 192.168.1.254 00:ca:fe:ba:be:00
192.168.1.254 being your router's IP

PPTP VPN issues- possibly solved

I've searched far and wide for an answer and I can't find anything conclusive. I'm trying to use a PPTP VPN connection on my phone SGS II. The connection requires MPPE encryption and I can connect but afterwards the connection fails/drops/timeout after about 3-4 minutes. I am on ICS 4.0.4 (darkside). Does anyone have a conclusive answer to why the VPN connection will drop when I am in an area with full service? I have tested all the radio's available and deduced it is not a service/radio issue. It seems to be possible an issue with the kernel, or ROM, but again I am not sure. I'm at wits end trying to get this to work.

Here is an update incase anyone experiences the same issue.
In my testing I re flashed the darkside ROM I had a few times to be sure it was not a dirty flash. I also switched Kernel's from tdj's to faux. Neither step worked. So I flashed a new ROM (infamous resurrection) it comes with its own Kernel as well. After flashing IR I have been able to maintain VPN connections via PPTP w/ MPPE encryption. I can't conclusively say if it was ROM or Kernel related but my issue is resolved. If anyone is ok with ICS and needs to use a VPN connection the Infamous Resurrection ROM is the one I'd pick.
