Hi guys!
I'm just wanting to show an idea I've been developing. Has there ever yet been such a thing as an online automatic kernel repacker? Where you can just upload the source boot.img and the new kernel boot.img and it will repack the two and provide you with a link?
Well... I couldn't find one, so I've made one!
I've designed it to be very simple and easy to use, with instructions included. If enough people like the idea I'll try and see about getting it onto a more permanent home.
Repacked kernels will be added as I am able to test them, and can be found on the Resources page. If you have any particular requests, please post them here and I'll repack and add them to the list if I can.
Also, if you've repacked a kernel using this site and have tested it successfully on your device, can you please post on here with the name of the ROM, Kernel and the Unix time code (the 10 digit number) from the download link. This will allow me to add it to the list of pre-packaged kernels for future users.
Update: The Kernel Re-packer has now been uploaded to it's new home - a dedicated Linux server. You should be able to upload/download kernels much faster now, as the server I'm using has a 1GB/s connection :victory:. Upload times should now be limited only by your own bandwidth, enjoy!
Please thank or donate if this has been useful to you. Also feel free to leave feedback, comments, requests, ideas, complaints or anything else below!
Thanks guys
- I'm a bit of a newbie in Android development... so please forgive me if anything I've done or written is wrong, I have a fair bit of computer/website/programming experience and I'm trying to expand into the droid universe.
Changelog:
- Everything now moved across to a new server with 1GB/s bandwidth
- Added error page to display if files are uploaded incorrectly
- Added status display to let you know when the files are uploading
- Fixed first glitch: "Not Found" error
- Added more to the description to make the process easier to understand
- Tested a couple more kernels, added to "Resources Page"
Tested ROMS:
- Cyanogen 10
- Android Revolution HD
Todo:
- Redesign site appearance
- Add more pre-packed images as they are tested
Note: I'll likely make it look prettier in the future too, I didn't consider that all too important till I know if people will use it .
Great work, What about add "recent re-packed" to help NOOB people ?
Thank you

Under "resources" you can find a couple of ones I've already repacked... although I realize the title of that page probably doesn't make it clear .
I plan on adding lots more to that list when I'm on a faster server, this method allows me to repack kernels very quickly - it only takes a couple of clicks and a few seconds at my end .

Ah, sorry about that!
How long did it take for your upload to go through? I'm fairly sure this issue occurs when the php session times out before you get as far as the download.
I've extended the session length and tweaked a couple of other bits, it shouldn't do that anymore, but I'll get a couple of people to test at my end .
What do you think of the idea in general?

Original post reformatted to make for an easier read, and earlier bugs resolved .
Please report back if this works for you - if you include the unix time code (the 10 digit number in the download link) along with the ROM name and Kernel name then I can add your boot image to the list of repacked kernels.
Thanks! :good:

Great idea. A central repository for all versions, all combinations.
I can't download files under resources using my hox in chrome or stock browsers. Stock opens and displays the binary file

I haven't actually tested it on my One X yet; I thought that seen as most people would be flashing the roms from their computers that would be where they would be viewing it from .
I'll have a look in a moment.
Apologies for any connection issues, multiple concurrent uploads and downloads appear to be putting a bit of strain on my poor router. The sooner I get this on a dedicated server the better!

Hi, yes I've been thinking about that one myself... it could make things a bit faster .
I'll see what I can do
Right, I'm afraid I'm having to temporarily turn the site off for the moment as all the downloads/uploads are constantly crashing my interwebs. I'm looking into getting this onto a dedicated server ASAP, maybe as soon as tomorrow if I find the right one .
In the mean time, if you'd like anything repacked please feel free to request it here and give me a link to the files and I'll be happy to repack it at my end.

Hello !
After nearly 18 months using various roms made by various brilliant people i have learnt allot, and today i have spent all day making my own rom and i am proud to share it with everyone.
I have tested on my phone and there are no issues, atleast no issues i can fix...
The History of this ROM dates back to the dev AdamG, I believe this ROM was once the "OxyGen" ROM which I was a fan of and used on the HTC Desire I once used to own, so this ROM is kinda nostalgic for me LOL

Features
Tytungs GPS Libs 2.1 NMEA
Warrens Awesome Desire 2.6.35 Kernel.
ROBOTO Fonts !.
Old Hacked Market (Just means it wont self update and can see all apps).
Dorimanx's Awesome Memory tweaks, these tweaks allow for more apps to run all the time in memory and the Net effect is... more of that ram gets used instead of wasted.
And the usual..
De-odexed
Zipaligned
Rooted
BusyBox
A2SD+
Cache2SD
Nano Text Editor Support
Bash Shell Support
Huge APN List
Init.d Support
Android 2.3.4
Screen DPI 192
Very Slim - <100 100 MB, you could infact use a 10/100/5 or 5/100/5 partition layout
I will now explain the philosophy of the rom.
Its about keeping Android just... Android and nothing else. Let the user choose how to use the phone, Android is all about customising and choosing how we want to use the phone, so removing every single app that can be replaced or installed from market is just the first step.
Under the hood, this rom has all the goodies you come to expect from modern HD2 Roms, It has the tweaks but it is kept conservative, STABILITY is the primary focus, this rom is still franticly fast but any tweak or any setting that subtracts from stability is out the window.
Before posting this rom i have used the 2.6.35 kernel for two weeks using AOSP android and i can say without a doubt it is stabil, the only thing is its not 100% finished thus the camera and bluetooth issues, but at least the camera can be replaced.
Issues
Kernel Has Camera Issues, so stock camera app is no good, please install the free app called "Camera Fun" and you can take pictures again. The App has different modes, select Normal for Normal pics.
Bluetooth may or may not work for your device.
Install Instructions
First of all, use the attached 4EXT recovery and make sure your sd-ext is using EXT4, it helps with data loss prevention and speed.
Next, after booting up the first time the market is not visible in the app list until you add a google account.
First thing you need to install is "SuperUser" true to the philosophy it is not included in the system apps
After its installed root will work perfectly, and update the SU binary when you get a chance.
Please update the adfree hosts with adfree app or after the rom has been running for a few hours you will get major battery drain, the old adfree host file blocks google analytics, it keeps trying over and over and thus the battery drain.
Enjoy !
(Thanks Google Cache for giving me back the download link)

Oh sorry when my op got half deleted i forgot to put that back.
Its actually the kernel it has camera issue.
Please install the application free called camera fun but there is no camcorder support in kernel yet.
I'm going to make a dorimanx kernel pack for users to help out.
And I'll also attach the camera apk.
Ok, edited the cwm zip so it has the right file-name for modules and removed its libaudio.so since when I have changed it myself the ROM wont boot.
Try it and let me know how it goes.
Another thing, do a backup before you flash the kernel...

* Thanks XDA for getting me here. I have learnt so much from this place!
* credits to my grass roots in the DarkyROM forum and the inspiration for me to launch into the ICS ROM building and addon packages as well as for provision of the latest and greatest via DarkyNOTE for me to be able to do this
*****************************************************************************************************************************************
-Adobe Flash -
* Latest Adobe Flashplayer App taken from DarkyROM Note download (seemed to me like the latest Samfirmwaree release of the apk to me? Galnex is ASOP so went for the latest option)
* Installs an 8.5Mb package to system so you best be sure you have free space
* No fancy scripts.
* Installs apk file
* Installs two plugins in system
* Install - go to flash player app check the preferences and launch browser website
* In browser settings check the box "Allow Plugins Always"
* Tested on desktop site of YouTube at full screen and plays clips fine all in sync with sound perfect crisp clear.
DOWNLOAD
This is with the larger APK found in SGS 2 (taken from my ex GF stock rooted SGSII using rootbrowser) and Adobe plugins from NOTE (too large to upload via the forum here so drop box here)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43088692/Adobe_Flash_Fixer.zip
THIS IS THE ONE I TRIED AND TESTED STRAIGHT UP ^^^
The attached ones are not tested. But when I installed the apks manually and it asked me to replace I clicked yes and installed over the top of the other one and installed 10.1 flash player. I have tested this and it worked the same as the first install.
**If someone would like to flash the smaller zip and tell me if they were effective or not that would be great as it will save space in system for us that are already wary on size
BOTH are CWM flashable zips and install plug ins
Those that can feel free to upload to filesharing sites.
JUST IN CASE YOU BREEZED OVER IT AND BEFORE YOU GET EXCITED, DOWNLOAD, AND FLASH.....HERE IT IS AGAIN FOR YOU: DO A NANDROID BACKUP!
What's ASOP regarding Galnex?
Awsome! Great work.
does it works on CM9 BUILD15?

Flashplayer
This flashed perfectly fine, however, I am missing the Flashplayer Icon in the app drawer, so I cannot visit the website. Is it called something else in the ROM zip? I've gone looking for it to push manually but cannot identify. I went with the larger zip file.
Hey guys I found this in another thread....I was actually looking for something else when I stumbled across this Can anyone who has flashed my package that didn't get flashplayer to work....try this? I have fully working working Adobe flash so cannot replicate

Wha.... I should have looked! It's not in /system/app or /data/app! How can this be? Reflashing now.
EDIT: Nope, it's not there. Usually I don't miss something like this but I sure did this time, lol! I'll push it manually in the morning when I'm rested. Long day. If that doesn't work, I'll download from the market, then flash the fix again.
i downloaded the file from dropbox in the initial post and followed the instructions.
specifically, i downloaded the zip, went into recovery and flashed it, then rebooted and chose the flash player app. it launched the browser and took me to the adobe settings page, but it was blank. i tried this several times, but nothing changed. when i tried to use site with flash, nothing worked.
am i misinterpreting the instructions somehow?

Flashplayer won't show up in the Market at all for me. I guess this is an issue of the phone being identified as T959 in build.prop? Maybe temporarily installing a modified build.prop that reads Nexus S, then downloading/setting up the app? Has anyone tried this?

You say you aren't going to reply to any question on how to, yet you don't provide any relevant information or any details? Just a very vague working list? Not even a non working list?
And how do we know that this is even legitimate?
I saw your other thread(s) on this, got closed because you didn't provide enough information, so please, before that happens, at least let us know what we can expect from this, any credits, who made it, how to flash it, and most basically, what is it?!
Please do this to avoid a dev closing this thread as well
Cheers
PS: not a hater, just saying what needs to be done, because then otherwise this will probably end up getting closed like another Rom thread we had a few weeks ago, and like your other thread.
Once again, props to you if this really is Ubuntu, but we can't just flash this without some more info...

its a minimal ubuntu image with a kernel and initrd that will chainroot a image file
what has to be done
get a way of acces by mount chroot/keyboard/network
once one have acces start bij setting up network/keyboard/display and so on
then start fixing things
then create a full working rootfs
and credit goos to Trip for is kernel and me for the basic setup
What kind of sources do you use? Linux kernel 3.8 has full support for Tegra 3, including Kernel Mode Setting, but changes are needed to HOX board.

keyboard working by default but tyyping in tty1 goes to tty2 so you need to switch tty's to see what going on . trying to fix that.
then fix wifi firmware loading so when can easy setup wifi and ssh
I would suggest this thread to be moved to the Developer only section as I think this is really for advanced developers!
I love the idea of running ubuntu or any other linux distro for that matter on my phone
A lot of work on this has been done in the past for the HTC HD2.
They had a LOT working..
Maybe their "fixes" won;t work for the One X, but their methods of fixing errors could possible provide help!
As I said, would love to see this going further!
One of the best things would be: HDMI out to a screen, and use a wireless (Bluetooth/wifi) mouse and keyboard!
Then we have a full pocketsized workstation!
got Ubuntu loaded , stiil far from done but a start
so this is ubuntu for phones i guess? http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone
na , just ubuntu
Any progress??

Hey guys, here's the source for my new application launcher. This launcher looks and feels like it belongs in Glass. The feedback I've received so far has been awesome, and I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Props to Michael DiGiovanni and launchy for figuring things out long before the GDK release.
Apk
Tried compiling the apk from your source but it failed once sideloaded onto glass. Any chance you could provide the .apk?
please post apk for testing
Yeah, source isn't compiling correctly. Please post complete source, or provide the app.

It compiled fine for me, though I had to do some tweaking in Eclipse.
I was getting the following:
[2013-12-16 22:21:03 - Dex Loader] Unable to execute dex: java.nio.BufferOverflowException. Check the Eclipse log for stack trace.
[2013-12-16 22:21:03 - GlassLauncher] Conversion to Dalvik format failed: Unable to execute dex: java.nio.BufferOverflowException. Check the Eclipse log for stack trace.
In order to fix it, I had to do two things (assuming that you've already installed the GDK sneak peak via the Android SDK)....
1. Right click on the project >> go to Android Tools >> click on "Add Support Library"
2. At the top of Eclipse, click on Project >> Clean >> selected my project and cleaned it.
Once that was done I was able to run it and have it sideload onto my Glass that I had plugged into the laptop.
Hope that helps.

@mybrotherischad , Thanks! That did it. I had the GDK & I can't figure out why, but cleaning seemed to make the difference. Maybe something was hung up.
can either of you pls post or send a pm to the .apk for a non-programmer explorer?
Not working on EX12
Loved this launcher amazing work. No longer works on EX12 for me.
Edit:
Works now with patch from post #11
The best sideloaded app launcher on glass!
Now working on EX12

The issue was tracked on my GitHub as well, apparently downgrading the Android Build Tools to 18.1.1 was a workaround, but 19.0.1 is out now and it seems to have fixed the problem altogether.

Unfortunately, Google's GDK developer policies state that, "You may not publish or distribute Glassware outside of the official Google-hosted Google Mirror API Client and GDK application distribution channel, unless otherwise approved in writing by Google."
I don't want to risk anything this early on, but I'm sure someone out there would be happy to compile it for you.

Looks like the apk isn't signed.
EDIT: Might have been an error on my side. Got it signed and installed. Working great. I have attached the .apk.
Invisiblek: if you want me to take this down, I will do so.

Thanks, I'll rework the data structure tomorrow if I get time, it isn't made that brilliant for multiple devices. I just made a quick solution because @ak asked for Nexus 4 support, and of course it should be available to everyone
Any way to parse the md5s to show in-app for those that have them? Would be so handy.
Edit: Having issues with Carbon downloads too. It just downloads a 23kB html file instead.

I'll take a look at it, I've noticed some trouble with Carbon's download page before.
Still reworking the data structure, it's taking a bit longer than expected.
As soon as it's done and I've created a management interface I'll add a lot more roms/kernels to all the nexus devices
The new version is now live (data restructured, more devices)
The following devices is supported: flo, grouper, hammerhead, maguro, mako, toro, toroplus
I've added the "big guys" ..but let me know if your missing any roms/kernels/gapps
I'm looking into getting the md5-sum - but it's a bit tricky because everyone locate it different places
Carbon ROM support went bye bye?

For now. I haven't found a solution to it yet, and I'd rather leave it out than have broken links as you spotted (23kb html files)
I can give you a quick example, if you select the first download in the list it works:
https://carbon-rom.com/downloads/?device=maguro&type=nightly
But if you refer directly to the download it doesn't work
https://us1.dl.carbon-rom.com/files/maguro/nightly/CARBON-KK-NIGHTLY-20140320-0442-maguro.zip
It has something to do with either host header or referral.
If it should work I have to parse all download links through and "cheat" the host - right now I'm just linking directly to the downloads.
I'll of course look into it

I was at least using it to easily check for nightlies but I definitely get not wanting something broken included.
Thanks! Awesome work!
P.S. What about not spoofing at all, and just opening a browser frame to the Carbon downloads page so that the followed links are still in the browser and therefore from their site?

The only thing in the pipeline is to get Carbon to work. I won't add more roms/devices unless it's requested.. would take ages to go through all the device threads and what good would it do if no one is using the downloads anyway
@osm0sis CarbonRom is now added to all supported devices
New Category "Recovery" has been added, a quick and easy way to download the latest TWRP (looking into adding CWM also)
