Glass Launcher - An app launcher with a native feel - Glass Development

Hey guys, here's the source for my new application launcher. This launcher looks and feels like it belongs in Glass. The feedback I've received so far has been awesome, and I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Props to Michael DiGiovanni and launchy for figuring things out long before the GDK release.

Apk
Tried compiling the apk from your source but it failed once sideloaded onto glass. Any chance you could provide the .apk?

please post apk for testing

Yeah, source isn't compiling correctly. Please post complete source, or provide the app.

It compiled fine for me, though I had to do some tweaking in Eclipse.
I was getting the following:
[2013-12-16 22:21:03 - Dex Loader] Unable to execute dex: java.nio.BufferOverflowException. Check the Eclipse log for stack trace.
[2013-12-16 22:21:03 - GlassLauncher] Conversion to Dalvik format failed: Unable to execute dex: java.nio.BufferOverflowException. Check the Eclipse log for stack trace.
In order to fix it, I had to do two things (assuming that you've already installed the GDK sneak peak via the Android SDK)....
1. Right click on the project >> go to Android Tools >> click on "Add Support Library"
2. At the top of Eclipse, click on Project >> Clean >> selected my project and cleaned it.
Once that was done I was able to run it and have it sideload onto my Glass that I had plugged into the laptop.
Hope that helps.

@mybrotherischad , Thanks! That did it. I had the GDK & I can't figure out why, but cleaning seemed to make the difference. Maybe something was hung up.

can either of you pls post or send a pm to the .apk for a non-programmer explorer?

Not working on EX12
Loved this launcher amazing work. No longer works on EX12 for me.
Edit:
Works now with patch from post #11
The best sideloaded app launcher on glass!

The issue was tracked on my GitHub as well, apparently downgrading the Android Build Tools to 18.1.1 was a workaround, but 19.0.1 is out now and it seems to have fixed the problem altogether.

Unfortunately, Google's GDK developer policies state that, "You may not publish or distribute Glassware outside of the official Google-hosted Google Mirror API Client and GDK application distribution channel, unless otherwise approved in writing by Google."
I don't want to risk anything this early on, but I'm sure someone out there would be happy to compile it for you.

Hi guys!
I'm just wanting to show an idea I've been developing. Has there ever yet been such a thing as an online automatic kernel repacker? Where you can just upload the source boot.img and the new kernel boot.img and it will repack the two and provide you with a link?
Well... I couldn't find one, so I've made one!
I've designed it to be very simple and easy to use, with instructions included. If enough people like the idea I'll try and see about getting it onto a more permanent home.
Repacked kernels will be added as I am able to test them, and can be found on the Resources page. If you have any particular requests, please post them here and I'll repack and add them to the list if I can.
Also, if you've repacked a kernel using this site and have tested it successfully on your device, can you please post on here with the name of the ROM, Kernel and the Unix time code (the 10 digit number) from the download link. This will allow me to add it to the list of pre-packaged kernels for future users.
Update: The Kernel Re-packer has now been uploaded to it's new home - a dedicated Linux server. You should be able to upload/download kernels much faster now, as the server I'm using has a 1GB/s connection :victory:. Upload times should now be limited only by your own bandwidth, enjoy!
Please thank or donate if this has been useful to you. Also feel free to leave feedback, comments, requests, ideas, complaints or anything else below!
Thanks guys
- I'm a bit of a newbie in Android development... so please forgive me if anything I've done or written is wrong, I have a fair bit of computer/website/programming experience and I'm trying to expand into the droid universe.
Changelog:
- Everything now moved across to a new server with 1GB/s bandwidth
- Added error page to display if files are uploaded incorrectly
- Added status display to let you know when the files are uploading
- Fixed first glitch: "Not Found" error
- Added more to the description to make the process easier to understand
- Tested a couple more kernels, added to "Resources Page"
Tested ROMS:
- Cyanogen 10
- Android Revolution HD
Todo:
- Redesign site appearance
- Add more pre-packed images as they are tested
Note: I'll likely make it look prettier in the future too, I didn't consider that all too important till I know if people will use it .
Great work, What about add "recent re-packed" to help NOOB people ?
Thank you

Under "resources" you can find a couple of ones I've already repacked... although I realize the title of that page probably doesn't make it clear .
I plan on adding lots more to that list when I'm on a faster server, this method allows me to repack kernels very quickly - it only takes a couple of clicks and a few seconds at my end .

Ah, sorry about that!
How long did it take for your upload to go through? I'm fairly sure this issue occurs when the php session times out before you get as far as the download.
I've extended the session length and tweaked a couple of other bits, it shouldn't do that anymore, but I'll get a couple of people to test at my end .
What do you think of the idea in general?

Please report back if this works for you - if you include the unix time code (the 10 digit number in the download link) along with the ROM name and Kernel name then I can add your boot image to the list of repacked kernels.
Thanks! :good:

I haven't actually tested it on my One X yet; I thought that seen as most people would be flashing the roms from their computers that would be where they would be viewing it from .
I'll have a look in a moment.
Apologies for any connection issues, multiple concurrent uploads and downloads appear to be putting a bit of strain on my poor router. The sooner I get this on a dedicated server the better!

Right, I'm afraid I'm having to temporarily turn the site off for the moment as all the downloads/uploads are constantly crashing my interwebs. I'm looking into getting this onto a dedicated server ASAP, maybe as soon as tomorrow if I find the right one .
In the mean time, if you'd like anything repacked please feel free to request it here and give me a link to the files and I'll be happy to repack it at my end.

THIS GUIDE IS VERY OUTDATED AND NOT PROPER. I'M VERY BUSY AND DON'T EVEN BUILD MY OWN ROMS ANYMORE. I'LL UPDATE WITH A NEW METHOD WHEN I HAVE TIME TO RESEARCH ONE.
This is all infromation i recieved from atc3030 so please stop by his profile and hit that beautiful thanks button. I am posting this after numerous requests from people on how to compile ROMs with the Linaro toolchain
What you'll need
Basic knowledge of how to compile a ROM
Common Sense
Fingers to stop by atc3030 profile to thank him.
Read Through instructions once before executing, there short so don't complain.
Lets Get Started!
Navigate To Root Of Your Source In Terminal
Run: "cd prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/arm/"
Run:
ICS "wget http://releases.linaro.org/12.07/components/android/toolchain/4.7/android-toolchain-eabi-linaro-4.7-2012.07-3-2012-06-19_14-52-07-linux-x86.tar.bz2"
JB "wget http://releases.linaro.org/12.11/components/android/toolchain/4.7/android-toolchain-eabi-linaro-4.7-2012.11-1-2012-11-16_21-55-58-linux-x86.tar.bz2"
Run: "bunzip2 *.tar.bz2"
Run: "tar -xvf *.tar"
In Your File Browser Navigate To Root Folder Of Your Source
Navigate To ~/build
Open envsetup.sh In Your Favorite Text Editor
Modify The Arm Toolchain Line To Reflect Your Linaro Folder (Check Picture)
Now: Enjoy :]
I will try to keep toolchain links updated. If one is released without me updating the post then PM me.
Was just looking for this. Will let you know how it goes.

plus
just tried it to double check....
says its not even found....the file anyway
when you add the linaro toolchain files into the folder. the arm-linux file need to be deleted (tahts the old toolchain).
I installed the toolchain system-wide. Build it from src/create a pkg for your package manager, install. Point build system to it.
Thanks for the time spent creating this thread, but this is a rather hackish way of doing it.

Ok so i was informed that 4.2 changes everything, if you know enough then simply putting the files in the new toolhain folder (prebuilts, gcc, arm) is enough though dirtier and more hacksih then this method. I will be updating the OP once i find a cleaner method
Is it just a matter of replacing /prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/arm/arm-eabi-4.6 with the android-toolchain-eabi directory from the Linaro archive (renaming it to arm-eabi-4.6)? Or is there more to it than that?
How would we go back if we dont like the results?

Yes you can do that. I was trying to get it to point to the 4.7 since that is Lindsay. I think is just modifying the envsetup

I tried replacing the arm-eabi-4.6 directory like I mentioned above, but I'm not convinced it actually used it. No way to tell, I suppose? Maybe I'll just wait til you have the cleaner method. Thanks for your efforts in this thread, by the way.

Also, a 'repo sync' should wipe it out and revert to the default toolchain in whatever you're building.

It used it if you did it right. There is no other toolchain for it to use lol. It looks in a location to find the toolchain. Add .bak to the end of the folder and it won't be able to locate the toolchain.... Repo sync doesn't effect it. Although it might in the future based on some open commits I saw

Depends on what "did it right" means, I guess. In /prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/arm, I replaced the arm-eabi-4.6 directory with the renamed android-toolchain-eabi directory from the linaro archive.

I'm not so sure that's true, at least in the case of the folder I mentioned earlier (/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/arm/arm-eabi-4.6). I just blew that directory away completely (arm-eabi-4.6) and compiled. It built just fine. So, maybe that isn't the folder it's looking at in 4.2?

Maybe that varies based on which ROM you're building, but in AOKP a 'repo sync' will overwrite some files in that directory and repopulate missing ones. Again though, we might be looking at the wrong directory for 4.2.

Its a WIP so it will grow bigger with time. Currently you get what you see on the preview above. Coming feature will include a more comprehensive system theming and a custom homescreen layout.
Since its not finished yet the zip contains a preview theme, which can be understand as a BETA build.
When you flash this I noticed, that sometimes my hybrid settings wouldnt work anymore. Multiple relfashing did solve that, but it eventually it came back. So be aware that this might occur to you aswell, but which isnt that much as a drawback, since those errors wont occur in the future anymore hopefully

Ok on this post you will be able to get some information about the UI and the lockscreen.
At first here is the rar-file you will need:
Platinum UI + Lock
extract that und use the files as they should be used.
The Lockscreen is a modified version of the Sense3 Widgetlocker Lockscreen, so you will need to have Widgetlocker installed. After that just put the zip file in data/com.tesla-something/themes and you can select it when you add a slider. The image files for the sliders should be on your device when you want to change them.
The rest should be very obvious. Install the UCCW files (you will need UCCW for that) and add them to you homescreen. I am using NOVA Launcher (Grid 7x6) and let my Widgets overlap each other, which is needed to correctly position the clock and the date.
The UI is for 2 homescreens. The circle on the left or the right already have the icons on them, just put the correct app in that spot and make it invisible with the transparent png file.
That should do the trick. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask and if you like this, plz hit my Thanks Button!

Yep worked
I really like this thame and I would be glad if u make it for galaxy nexus
I was waiting for your theme since you mentioned it in the Nexus thread. I downloaded and successfully installed the mediafire file, but two things have happened:
1) The theme haven't changed.
2) The Paranoidandroid settings stopped working.
I am using Paranoidandroid 2.99 beta 8 rom with Franco r15 kernel.
Best regards
will it work with tabui too? Or is it meant for phone and phablet mode?
There you are Nordpol, now the real theming is starting
This doesn't really work for me.
The wallpaper of the launcher isn't shown properly , it's merely 5px wide and only seen on the left of the screen.
The leftover of the background is black.

Yep that is mentioned on the OP. reflashing the rom and theme seems to solve that shortly, but not permanently. In future releases I hope I can fix it, since I am looking for the problem already and I have some clues.
When you say the theme havent changed, what do you mean? Settings contact and phone should be different

Ähm.....there is no wallpaper included and there is now reason why that would be happening. Are you sure that you have Paranoid Android 2.99.71 on your device?

[MOD] Google+ Locations Map Fix v1 [12/07/13]

Presenting to you my incredibly simple fix for the "Google+ Locations" Grey background maps issue that most of us have.
What is the problem?
Google+ Locations feature is replacing Latitude but for many of us this feature does not work. It fails to load the map leaving us with pictures of our contacts on a grey background - basically making the feature worthless to us all.
Whilst the fix itself is very simple (more info at bottom of this post), I know a lot of people here like things to be super easy, so I made a .zip for you all to flash.
Instructions
- Flash like any normal update.zip
- Reboot
In the unlikely event you find that the zip doesn't appear to work, or causes other Google+ issues then wipe app data (and cache) for Google+ and reboot.

Didn't work either way for me.
Tried your flash zip and after rebooting Google+ updated itself by Play probably reversing the changes.
That wouldn't reverse the changes, try to flash it a second time, one person said it worked the second time (everyone else was fine the first time)

Nope still doesn't work.
Reverted back to a previous nandroid (InsertCoin) backup prior to any Google+ modding.
Flashed your zip, rebooted and Google+ was no longer installed.
Had to re-install Google+ from Play store.
Weird you are the only one who has had issues. You were not wiping cache when you flashed it were you?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
No just a straight flash and reboot
Interesting. All the zip does it put the app and libs in the correct /system/ directory, there it no reason why it shouldnt work.
You could do it manually if you wanted.

I tried manually first time and still had a grey screen
This is normal?

You will only see people on your map if they are sharing their position with a circle you are in (on google+).

finally got this working...
After moving the files you need to manually clear Google+ data and then it works.

Weird, never had to do that for me (or anyone else who did my testing).
I will add a note to the OP.

I tried to do manually. Moving the "com.google.android.apps.plus-2.apk" to /system/app results in the error:
failed on 'com.google.android.apps.plus-2.apk' - Cross-device link
This is on Nexus4 running CM10.1.2-mako

Alright,
I'm sure you arrived at this solution quite independently as It becomes kinda obvious once you have a proper look into it but I sorted this out weeks ago
https://plus.google.com/u/0/102811685695605940714/posts/5B8gYHciXDe [ Posts in the name of Steve Jones, ]
I made available a new gapps packages for fresh roms here http://goo.im/devs/trevd/gapps/gapps-jb-20130615-signed.zip this includes Google+ as a system app.
The problem you'll get now is that the original one installed from the PlayStore has been updated hence why the apk is now at -2. So at the moment if folks have that one installed in /data/ they should be able to flash your system app version with out removing anything ( in theory ) This might only work until the next update.
Probably the easiest approach is to uninstall using play. Flash a update zip which installs it as a system app.
Just My Thoughts :good:
@sashykanth use "busybox mv" to move files
Hack On!

Thanks for this, I hadn't seen your G+ Post before today. The new Gapps package will certainly be useful for roms which require Gapps.

About
The WinDroid Toolkit is a Windows program built in Visual Studio using the C# programming language that simplifies the rooting process for many Android devices. The toolkit makes it easy to unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery and gain permanent root. It also includes other functions such as flashing kernels, pushing files and installing apps. If you find it helpful, give me a thanks and a donation if you can. If you find a bug or have a feature request, feel free to leave a reply. Thanks!

That's quite an odd issue! Is your main drive letter C:? If it is, try running the program as administrator, then hit yes again.

It looks like the toolkit had issues moving the files after it downloaded them, and for some reason caused a BSOD, which is definitely odd. You shouldn't have to run it as administrator now, so you're good.

unfortunately it seems the htc drivers are causing BSODs now. awesome. I struggled through and got the phone all done. even the uninstalling the htc drivers caused a BSOD.
guess i'll be using the win8 laptop to do anything else with the one v

Hmmm. Before that happens, if not to late, I think you should change the files around for recoveries. TWRPC seems to be the wrong Recovery file. It's a fail boot. I compared the files. The correct one is nearly 2 MB's lower. I just got a replacement, so yeah. I use your app to run the whole process for me. Tested most of it.
Thanks!

Again, saving my butt! Thanks for letting me know. I'm not sure what happened with the recovery files. I re-downloaded the recoveries, double checked the MD5sum, and reuploaded the toolkit again, so check it out for me and make sure I didn't screw anything else up.
