Custom kernels can tweak the vibration value.
However, most users have found that the head on the vibrating motor...when spun too quickly...seems less intense.
And when spun too slow...again, seems less intense.
The stock value seems to be calibrated to about the best value.
You can play around with it if you please...but don't expect miraculous results.

Hi There!
I got my wife one of these to replace her Motorola Defy.. She has a few questions I couldn't really answer...
1) She seems to be having problems with signal and therefore internet connectivity. All our other 6 devices wireless fine. It's running 4.04 Android Custom ROM. I read recently 4.04 users were reporting issues with the signal strength and wondering if I should change back to 4.03?
2) She says whites are not really white and when I compare to the Defy it would appear she is right.
3) She says the text doesn't look as sharp or crisp and again I am inclined to agree. I am not sure if this is a Pixel Density issue or a setting we can change.
4) Battery life is shocking. I'd say she is lucky to get 8 hours if she talks on the phone for perhaps 45 minutes a day. I am interested to know what a reasonable baseline expectation is.. Right now she is barely touching it.
5) Are the Nexus and Nexus S supported in the same forums and take the same ROMS?
NM I found the S Forums, sorry to have bothered you.
I think some users have found setting the Min CPU frequency to 729 instead of 384 helps to alleviate the signal drop issue. I have not experienced it myself. It might help if you report what rom/kernel you are using.
I personally get excellent battery life. Try enabling auto brightness and disabling auto-sync on data heavy applications such as some news readers or facebook. You can install CPUSpy and BetterBatteryStats to get an idea if your phone is properly going into deep sleep when idle and if not, what is preventing it from doing so.
Nexus S roms are NOT compatible with the Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks how do I change cpu frequency?

Hey guys,
I currently have a Nexus S however after 1 year I'm thinking of upgrading. My first choice would be the Galaxy Nexus because I prefer the pure Google experience and getting the updates first.
However there's some pretty decent phones on the horizon right now, such as HTC's latest offerings.
One thing that I want to make sure is that if I go for the Galaxy Nexus that I won't have worse battery life than my Nexus S right now.
I have the i9023 Nexus S (LCD version) running the latest ICS 4.0.4 and at the moment I get about 24 hours of battery life (that's with around 1.5 hours screen on time). I've seen some screenshots around here from the Galaxy Nexus showing a not so good battery life... but I don't know if it will be actually worse, better or the same (everyone uses the phone differently).
If you have upped from a Nexus S to a Galaxy Nexus, what's your opinion on this ?
One thing is certain, between the Galaxy SIII, HTC X and HTC S and the Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus seems to have the worst battery life. Although the other ones do not offer a pure Google experience... hmmmm
I'd say if you want an aosp experience, go with the nexus, if hats not as important to you as specs, get the s3 or one x. As for battery life, I recently got the sprint version and without lte, I get pretty poor battery life. Stock, I can barely get through an 8 hour day. With AOKP and Franco kernel, I can make it through the day with 20-30% left.

I get usually between 4-5hrs screen on time and between 12 and 16 hours battery life.
Was on holidays for the last month and didn't use my phone to that extent and got almost 3 days on battery and an hour screen on time. (Data, wifi off)
Aokp b35 and Franco's latest nightly.
well I'd be using the phone in Europe so no LTE for now (just good old 3G).
4-5 hours on screen time is pretty good. On a normal day's work I don't even use it that much
I would probably try avoid having a heavily modded custom kernel because at least from my Nexus S' experience, the battery gain you get (mostly marginal) doesn't pay off the added instability and random reboots.

I have never had a random reboot unless I undervolt dramatically.
All the kernels here are more stable than for the nexus s, I came from the nexus s.
And the battery gain is far from marginal! Trust me!

Hmm that's good to hear!
Looks like I will have a fun time playing around with kernels then! With the Nexus S the only real use I found for custom kernels (besides undervolting) was Voodoo Sound and Back Light Notifications. Have to do some home work here and see if these are still needed though!

There is no voodoo sound and no need for BLN as the gnex has an L.E.D. notification light.
There is a high performance sound hack in some kernels but its no voodoo, that's one thing I miss from nexus s, the wolfson amp in it was the ****!

ahh I see! Cause right now the Voodoo patch is the only thing that can make my bass thin headphones sound any good with its bass boost. But that's not all.. hope the sound recording capabilities of the Galaxy Nexus are better than the Nexus S... cause I once had about 1 hour of ruined concert footage because the sound was like frying burguers... with the Voodoo patch you can fix the sound sensitivity profile
We'll as far as recording goes I have no idea because I haven't used it to record stuff like that.
As for the headphones well I use sennheiser cx300's so I never have a problem with bass or sound on the gnex but I would still love to have voodoo but unfortunately it doesn't have the hardware and supercurio can't do anything with it.

Hi, I had a HTC one X recently, and being a bit of a phone geek that I am I like to have a second phone as a spare. So I bought a second hand nexus s. Started setting it up and began to realise how much I missed the pure Google experience, so I ended up using it in preference to my one X. Only two things kept making me switch back occasionally, and they were the speed and the poor battery life of the nexus s. I found the nexus was fine when on Wi-Fi but bad when using the cellular connection. The HTC was good on standby but astonishingly bad when in use.
So I sold the HTC and bought a Galaxy nexus, this was by far the best phone purchase I've made in ages,as although slower in terms of speed it's actually smoother in operation than both the HTC and nexus s, its camera is also good enough for my needs but best of all, on 4.0.4 now, my battery life is just excellent. Bearing in mind I've had all 3 phones set up the same, syncing the same email accounts and other accounts in the same environments, using the same sim card and everything I can say without doubt that the galaxy nexus has almost double the battery life of the nexus s, both on 4.0.4 and both on completely stock, unrooted, boot loader locked roms.
My advice, get a Gnex, and don't look back, lesson for me was that specs aren't everything, user experience counts for more.
I get atleast 5 hours of screen on time per charge, this includes constant wifi usage and music playing.

Franco's kernel is very stable. The omap in the galaxy nexus is a lot developer friendly. Samsung/Google really went all out to make this thing as open as possible.

I'm on the Gnexus right now and I just ordered a hox that I will be picking up tonight but after all the research I've been doing on the forums I'm suddenly unsure if I should pull the trigger. I have a few questions I hope you guys don't mind answering based on your experiences.
1. Signal and reception - Is it really faulty or are there just some units that are bad and some that are worse? I have a friend who just picked up a brand new one and lost all her signal the next day. She tried switching to other sim cards but the phone's antenna is not pickign up anyhting.
2. Multi-tasking issue - Correct me if I'm wrong but this issue has already been resolved on custom roms right? So it should work perfectly?
3. Heating problems - Again, my friend picked up hers and it gets insanely hot when using it on apps like twitter and facebook. She hasn't even tried gaming yet! 44C on the processor
4. Screen Flickering issue - Has this also been addressed by HTC? I haven't seen anyone complaining about it anymore.
That's it! I've been itching to get back to HTC because my last three phones were all samsung.
Had mine for 2 weeks, HT24VW - Made in Taiwan
1. Signal and reception has been perfect might be first models.
2. Read somewhere the multitasking has been fixed with custom rom
3. Mine never gets hot, played 20 min of GTA3 and you would call it warm.
4. Screen Flickering - Havent seen any even at low battery.
Battery: heavy use i would get 3:30 on screen(using 3G all day no wifi). Medium use: i had once 4:45 but. Totally happy with the HOX gets me through one day easy and that's all it need to do, every night it goes on charge regardless if its 70% charge left or 10% charge.
Im picking up a unit with sh23 serial is that one good?

1. Better than Galaxy S2, Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus IMO. Except from Sensation, my Desire and One X performs the best in terms of signal(wifi, data) and reception. Infact, i have data drops the most on Galaxy Nexus cuz of 4.0.4 update(omg so frustrating!)
2. This is yeah a problem i think but 1.29 update kinda fix this, generally. after 1.29, i'm having the same experience as Gnex multitasking. well that is based on my usage.
3. Heating? hmm i got this in any smartphones i own these days except tablets. My SGS2 and Gnexus got hot the most cuz they are slim. But then, using twitter and facebook never gets hot in any of my smartphones. Just heavy browsing and gaming will increase the heat.
4. I dont have screen flickering but some says the custom kernels fix them so i think its not a hardware issue.
i have a sh24 models, and btw, sold my Gnexus for the sake of One X. I never regret it.

should be okay although 23 is quite an early model.
25+ are generally considered to be more fault free but then i have a HT23 and it's fine.
I should have added i came from a G Nexus and it's (the one x) is in a completely different league. The screen alone is just simply jaw dropping.
best phone and wifi signal i've ever had on my release day (UK) HOX
screen flicker was addressed in the 1.29.xxx.11 update and has been resolved

1. Signal and reception has been perfect since day one for me, I had a Galaxy Nexus before my One X and the reception is definitely on par (can't say whether it's better or not, never done a proper test).
2. Multi-tasking was never a real issue and was only more of a mild annoyance because it was set to be far too aggresive. This was allegedly fixed through OTA's and is definitely fixed in custom ROMs.
3. Overheating can be a problem when playing games but if you're rooted you can disable 2 of the CPU cores (4 is overkill) which drastically reduces the heat problem.
4. Can't really comment on this as only the minority of users have experienced it.
The screen on the One X will blow you away after the Galaxy Nexus, trust me!
This phone craps all over anything I've had, sure it's newer better faster but it's leap years ahead of my last phone, the HTC Velocity, and that came out only a few months beforehand.
I have had the One X since May 4th and I really don't have any complaints.. I am loving Sense 4.0 and battery life is great.. The screen.. Well I haven't heard anything bad about the screen and you won't hear anything bad from me either.. I had the Samsung Galaxy SII and i really can't even go back to looking at that screen..
My concerns:
I don't know if this is how HTC has their multitasking or not but going in and out of apps that are running, it doesn't seem like they are consistently running in the background.. I jump back into the app that I was in and it has a to refresh and quickly freezes and then reboots it seems.. again I am not as familiar with HTC.. have been using Samsung galaxy devices for a couple of hears.. Is anyone else finding this?
I might not be explaining it good enough so if you have more questions please ask..
Also.. I was charging it over night last night and when I went to unlock the phone it showed that wifi wasn't connected and once I unlocked it it quickly connected.. So i believe it was running off of my cellular connection all night (or part of the night, or 5 minutes?).. Anyone else do that?
Speaker volume question: Next to my Galaxy sII it isn't nearly as loud coming out of the speaker (not the headphones).. I have read on other forums that the X has a better speaker than like the Desire HD and Sensation but those are other HTC phones.. I was wondering if anyone compared theirs to a Galaxy SII? I just want to make sure that my speaker is on par to where it should be because I have been reading other people having issues with it and were told to return it on some other forums..
Thank you in advance and any advice/assistance will be greatly appreciated!
Multitasking is a bit of an inconvenience at times because HTC has given the sense ui priority over other tasks to avoid sense closing and having to relaunch (a problem that was on the sensation). Your best bet to deal with it is to use a custom rom. As for the connectivity, I at times also unlock my phone to find that my WiFi is not connected-though it was turned on, it only happens every once and awhile. Don't know why it occurs, possibly WiFi being terminated in the background? (Part of the multitasking issue). And don't have an S2 to compare the speakers, sorry. But hope I helped in anyway.

Wi-Fi
HTC have some power-saving thing that switches wi-fi off overnight if you aren't using the phone.
So no, it probably wasn't using your cellular allowance. But it is annoying.
It seems to have stopped for me - I used to notice it. Maybe one of the updates fixed it?
(Still on stock, waiting for s-off before messing with my HOX)

The multitasking is two fold, one of which is confirmed, the other is just a possibility.
1. Not enough RAM. I doubt this is the case for the Tegra 3, which has something like 977 megs of RAM available to the user apps.
2. HTC's task management shenanigans, which were recently uncovered over in the One XL forums. No, it's not a big whining thread, it is a developer that has found code within the framework that kills tasks after x minutes and such that is obviously going over the OOM killer and pre-emptively killing things before RAM gets to the point that Android's built in memory management system starts killing tasks.

Hi.. just got my g pad few days ago and really loving it personally because of its perfect size, great build quality, and great sound quality (well far better than my note 3 )..
Whats really bugging me though is the relatively low brightness.. its the only darn downside.. So:
Is brightness hardware issue or software? If latter is there any settings or better yet ROMs that offer higher or better brightness?
Thanks!

Really?
If you only had 5 posts to your name we would've given you a break, but not 248!!
Search the forum for "brightness problem" and read a few eh?
Seriously, this has been answered too many times to count in this forum. Please use the search utility before posting such a simple question.
Ok sorry.. but believe me i have searched and read all brightness problems and solutions for lg g pad but all i want to know of its possible to increase more of the brightness thru software optimizations or impossible due to hardware fault.. if i have found an answer i would not ask..
All i read about are brightness as dim is dark nothing more stated and the possible ways of increasing it but nothing answers my query..
Sorry to argue with anyone..

Well, if you read the specs for the G Pad and compare it to, say, the Nexus 7, you'll see that the overall brightness capability of the G Pad is quite a bit lower than the highest level for the Nexus. However, since most of us don't run our tablets at the highest level, this is not an issue for most people most of the time. So, to answer your question, it is basically a hardware limitation, but it's not necessarily a problem. I very rarely have an occasion to turn the brightness level above 70%.

Thanks man! Could have been one of the best tab currently if it wasnt for that limitation.. guess we just have to live with it
