I've had the Samsung Galaxy S for about a week now and thinking about returning it due to the non-functional GPS.
The Desire is an option but I'm also wondering how the Desire performs when it comes to the feeling of speed and those lag pauses that the Galaxy has. I know the Desire won't be as good for gaming and such due to the CPU/GPU but does it feel faster for non-gaming use?
Anyone who used a Galaxy can comment on this? Does the Desire also pause for 3-5 seconds now and then when some IO is going on? At the moment I'm unsure of those (occasional) pauses are due to the Galaxy's memory management or just "normal" in Android and the Desire has them too.
Thx for any feedback.

I second that, work in a phone shop . I must say though I never get two days out of my battery. HTC have done a great job when it comes to user experience. I think Samsung tried to copy of the I phone which is a huge no no for me. I'm not a gaming fan with my hand held. Got my ps3 for that. Get it returned mate. HTC all the way.

Tried my friend's galaxy s for a few days and did not really like it all that much as compared to the desire. It may have a better cpu more ram and blah blah blah... but it did not work as smooth as the desire and yes there was some lag
Any more opinions from people who used both?
Hi!
I have got HTC Desire and my wife got Samsung Galaxy S-I9000. From my experience Samsung got much better battery life (to Panda: something must have kept your phone partialy awake that is why your battery was bad) and screen is amazing when compared to HTC. Only flaws with Samsung are lags and stuttering , even my wife says that it feels slow. There as few nice features on Samsung too- like wireless sharing of media to your computer and vice versa, audio output is much better and stock player from Samsung got all the features HTC is missing.

Search read and find out for yourself. Stop being lazy. There is a sticky were it has reviews for the phone. There is a battery stats thread were you can.check the battery life of the phone and many people have asked the same stuff you did so search for them.

I had the sensation and was my first android or any type of smart phone, im no dummy either so it took me bugger all to learn the tricks of the trade. Sensation was def a great phone no doubt's there and the software upgrade made the phone even better from GB to ICS, but it was not perfect.
The HTC one x was a great upgrade in comparison with the battery being about the same as the sensation with all the kernel tweaks and software updates on the sensation. With that said the one x is still early so could surpass the sensation with future updates, also the standby is far better on the one x with it dropping next to no life over night its so awesome xD.
Performance wise its better by nearly two fold with the UI being more aggressive and advanced with having to run more and yet being more smooth than the sensation in the end, Games are obs better with tegra 3 but normal games are also better as well.
As far as sense goes it might be opinion dependent but i think most would agree with the 3dot removed it is by far the best thing htc have bought out with their UI layouts.
Camera is better by two fold, sound is much better, HP output much better, build quality IMO much better, the list could go on.
Lolz you know i am so fedup with this phone as i am planning to switching back to Sensation until some good quality quad-core HTC devioce will come, i am selling it, maybe i suddenly find something great in One X, and postpong selling it, well the main reason is the poor battery life, i can hardly get a freedom to use my phone without having to worry about remaining battery, i have just xplore, es file explorer, opera mobile and uc browser installed, with no auto restart app or the one which runs at the background all the time, eerything else is stock apps, i know everyone has different opinions about different things, and you should explore and research more about it, un-removable and poor battery life is the one thing, then i saw some people reported it shows a lot more memory in use even if they have used a less than that, i am just planning to switch to Sensation..could have get Galaxy S3, but don't like samsung devices at all, so i am going with Sensation + 64gb card in place of this peice of crap..

I assume you're joking. My battery life on one x is about the same as sensation on custom ROM and kernel with Anker battery. The one x will get much better battery life over time.

One X is the best android phone ever made
however good luck, since there is a higher chance of getting defected unit
this phone is made for gaming, battery times is amazing screen off and screen on time is limited to 4-5 hours @ max

Install Betterbaterystats from the playstore, i guess you have some stampeding apps in the background running. How long is your screen-on-time? I get a full day easily on one charge!

im coming from the sensation myself, the htc one x is superior in many ways
i checked with betterbatterystats, i don't take my cell with me at office, so it's usually powered off for 10 hours per day, now i turned it on for 10 minutes, and exactly same is the screen on time according to betterbattery stats, and wifi is also running, so i charged it fully before turning it off, and now after 10 minutes i think it has used 7% of juice so far...what do you think?
I did the same upgrade, definitely worth it!
I owned a Sensation XE and currently own an international One X.
I loved my XE. Prior to that I had an Amaze 4g, prior to that I had the original Sensation. My XE was stock, running ICS with Sense 3.6. I noticed after the ICS update, my phone ran hotter at times (typically during web browsing). Anyhow, I am very happy with my One X. Here's why...
1) Larger screen with better viewing angles and at a higher resolution. 2) Thinner body. 3) Significantly better camera. 4) GREAT battery life.
A few cons though: 1) Slightly laggy at times (so was T Mobile's Sensation when it first was released-software updates will cure this). 2) It will get warm/hot but not as hot as my XE did after the update. 3) Non removable battery and storage (always had the option prior and hate the fact that it is no longer an option with the One series).
The screen on the XE was not all that great. Day to day use was perfectly fine, however if you were to compare both handsets side by side, you will quickly realize how awesome the screen on the One X is. Black text is closer to gray though, however I am okay with that considering the screen itself is vibrant and really sharp along with the fact that it no longer "washes out" as you tilt the screen. The angles are amazing.
As far as battery life, ICS does a hell of job with power management-one of the first things I noticed with my XE after the battery. Still, it would be great to be able to OD on your phone and simply pop in a fully charged spare which again, not an option here. My phone is on from 7 am to about 10 pm before I hit 10%. I text often, web browser frequently, FB all day, Twitter all day, Gmail, hotmail syncing every 15 mins, WiFi on the majority of the time, some YouTube. It is really quite amazing that I can do all of this stuff and confidently not worry about my phone dying on me.
The processor itself is quite the novelty. Great for more complex gaming however in day to day life, it will feel the same as the Sensation XE or any of the more recent HTC's prior to the One series.
The camera is really that great. No other HTC can touch it as far as quality. The Amaze had better quality than the Sensation and One X surpasses the Amaze when it comes to final results. Very pleased with the camera/video.
The One X is slightly wider than the XE and definitely longer (just like the One S is longer than the XE) but you get use to it quickly. If you have smaller hands though, it will be a problem.
If you get one, hope you enjoy it as much as I am.
Later
well , just have my 1X ,coming from XE
@the very first glance .. wow ! this is not a phone
it is a piece of art , and you'll realize instantly that it is a generation ahead over the sensation which has not such "impression" when compared to one year older DHD .
yup view angles completely changes the way you work with this device you can simply use from the worst possible positions lol
this the same for the weight and ergonomics never held a device that felt so elegant n refined in hand, like gf7800 its a masterpiece, you feel the future is now
the One X is just pure awesomeness if it wasn't for some of its trouble on stock software and the difficulty to acquire a flawless built one x
for example lag can be cured using root by ultra smooth sense launcher and custom kernels
also minimum clock control is a must for THD games and of course multitasking mem free values foe those who want more multi tasking
Hello peeps..
(Sorry in advance, this is just frustration.. but I still hold hope)
I upgraded and paid quite a bit of money on top to get this phone and now I am having my face rubbed in the dirt by other devices, ala 4S and S3 .
I know there is an hardcore Android following out there that are keen for things to be exclusively over-technical... but I've got to voice these frustrations...
1: Rooting your device for anything that is remotely useful.... I would root if it was easy enough and I could restore easily without trace to avoid warranty issues.
2: Only a third of the system memory is ever free at the best of times..
3: Battery issues... Do I need to mention them? Takes far too long to re-charge.
4: So much runs in the background and apps that you think you have shutdown in fact haven't.
5: Numerous app requirements not satisfied (mostly due to issue 1) I would like the camera flash to add to my SMS notification, I want different notification lights other than green and red, flash integration with fun apps just doesn't work, I want a call recorder that works and also want a screen capture that works.... a better app management system would be nice.
I know, what a gripe... sorry guys.
Anyway feel free to shoot my points down or advise.
Thanks.
Just wait a while before rooting at least for 2-3 months so you know your phone had no defects because it will void your warranty and wait for the 2.xx update, it will really be good. I am already on a 2.05 custom rom and the performance difference is huge....
Rooting is easy in my opinion and battery problems are nothing but normal with these powerhouses
I charge my HOX as often as a mate his 4S...
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
Hi Flo95, Thankyou for your reply.
Whilst rooting maybe easy, yes I have seen a few ways of doing this, but I haven't found a way of doing it without the opportunity to revert back to the shop bought system and thus not jeopardise the warranty.

Just with your point on screen capture, you can just hold and release Power+vol down, or hold power and tap the home button. Both will screen capture.
Unless you are talking about video screen capture, then I have no idea lol
Edit: Also my battery isn't too bad. I just charge once a day with moderate use. And I bought a 10,000mAh external battery to recharge when I use the phone really heavily. My gf S3 battery is about the same with her usage and same with her iphone 4 before that was get the same battery life as my HOX (even though it is only powering a tiny little screen and single core)
Some of the issues with compatibility will come in time. I had a swap to a g3 and despite the lack of upgradable memory or battery I took the HTC over the Samsung. I have a 2200mah powerskin and get about a day out of the phone with moderate use. A good hammer means a second charge or perhaps use the Powerskin. At work when it's not in use I just put it on charge.
On the topic of batteries. For some reason every phone I have had since my HTC hero the batteries have only lasted one day. IPhone 2 3 and 4. HTC desire hd g2and 3 and now the one x. All with different screen sizes and all getting different levels of abuse. In fact I use my hox for more things and the battery life doesnt disappoint too much compared to my wife with her 3gs and she never uses the internet just texts and kik and charges hers every day.
Slightly off topic but I think back battery is the nature of the beast now.

1. That will take S-OFF.
2. Any phone that doesn't have 2 GB of RAM has this issue.
3. Make sure you're charging with the OEM cable and use an AC charger. BetterBatteryStats will diagnose battery drain issues. 2.05 should increase battery life and reduce heat output of the T3.
4. Apps run in the background, it's a fact of Android. Just make sure they aren't holding wakelocks or using enormous amounts of CPU.
5. Camera flash to SMS notification is probably a Tasker profile, there are only green and red LEDs in the phone, flash plugin integration has always been poor on Android outside the browser and camera LED flash is not meant for continuous use, call recorder will work with root and a custom kernel for 2 wall call recording, and screen capture is just power button and home button.
App management isn't like the iPhone, but it's not horribly bad, it just uses the stock Android application manager.
If you're not happy, grow a pair and go get a new phone.

You are most definitely on the wrong forum because 1.85 is a HTC One XL (Emphasis on the L part) ROM. Don't update if you want to root, even if you aren't sure. If you don't know whether or not you want root you can always root first and revert later.
You don't need ROMs for themes. Not many people theme the ROM anyways.
I really like 95% of this phone but I can't get one with no major issues. These are the things that are making me considering switching to an S3
- battery life still isn't great on the latest update. S3 should be much better
- inconsistent wifi - I don't have the hardware problem on this one (previous ones have) but staying in the same spot, I still a signal which fluctuates alot, where other devices recieve a consistent strong signal
- Chrome browser - really like this most of the time but I frequently just get a blank white screen and no amount of reloading works - it affects any website and all open tabs.
- overheating..especially when on charge (playing games) it flashes red/green or even just browsing (on low brightness) it gets very warm to touch (high 40's degrees C shown on Batter Monitor Widget)
I'm on stock BTW and am not a root-er so I'm not considering other ROMs. Had an S2 previously, liked it but not too keen the gingerbread look which the S3 seems to have stuck with on their ICS touchwizz) Any advice appreciated.
The S3s wifi is awful I have both. The S3 also gets very warm when playing games and charging. The issue with chrome is the app not the phone. Mine does it on the s3. The battery life would be better of you had more than one battery. As far as a single charge goes they are about the same.

Fair enough on the Chrome thing. I thought the s3 battery is meant to be a fair bit longer lasting (it's more powerful for starters). Guess these phones will run hot, just didn't expect it to stop charging as it's overheating when just browsing etc.
Which of the two handsets do you prefer?

Flash siyah kernel, it.has.excellent battery life.and.extended wifi.range and you can undervolt or.overclock with.the.built.in.app. on average i.get just over 4 hours screen on time, some report even.five hours, i guess it depends how much you.under volt. Longest battery lasted with moderate use was 36 hours

I prefer the one x myself & I know you can mod it but I was basing this as if it was stock no mods. & the s3 lasts a bit longer but not a major difference. I was plugging them in the same time.

Have both s3 and hox. I use the hox over s3. The pros far outweigh the cons. Especially if you dont intend to root and use custom roms. Stock cheezwiz on sgs3 is just pathetic. Sense is miles ahead and with the latest update it rocks. Stay with the hox.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I have the htx one x my colleague has the s3 we don't notice any significant difference in the battery life. The HTC does not last playing sonic for the tigra. Also if wifi is intermittent the battery drains fast.
I get a day easily under normal use though.

Make sure it's not a WiFi antenna disconnection, make sure that your router is not on a channel where there's loads of interference, make sure that your phone is on 2.17.

1. S3 isn't, AMOLED EATS battery compared to S-LCD2. Unless you get another battery, in which case you'll blow the One X away.
2. Make sure there isn't any interference on your router, and make sure that the fluctuations are not affecting actual use of WiFi.
3. Chrome does this for everything.
4. Overheating will happen if you charge while playing games. Don't do it on these phones unless you really want to destroy it early from overheating. If you're going to charge it, leave it alone and stick with light use. Undervolting can also help with these issues, but if you go too far you will cause the phone to randomly go into bootloops that require a power button hold down to fix, or having the phone fall into a sleep of death.
WiFi signal fluctuations may also just be the phone's signal indicator actually being more representative of true signal. The only way to really know is to look at something like WiFi Analyzer and compare the dBm.
It's the same problem I've had with all three phones, when I squeeze the top right of the phone the reception goes full, but the first few weeks of using the phone the WiFi is perfect.
I'm pretty gutted that I'm movin on because I really like this phone, I'm not the biggest fan of Samsung but its the only other equivalent at the moment, I've had the hox from day 1 and its been great while the WiFi works, that's the only reason I'm changing, other wise I'd be HTC all the way

For the battery, not much you can do could try getting an App such as Juice defender but alot of the time they chew more battery than they save.
For your router, buy a new one?
For a quicker browser experience I would try Opera
Hope I helped.
Congratulation, although I don't consider Nokia as a bad brand and actually I fell Nokia is more like a RIM and focused towards business users.
About your wifi, if the signal is consistent than perhaps like you said, it's your router fault.
Also, check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579392 (You better start from last pages).
Also, you need to be aware roots app won't work without it. For the core controlling wait Jelly beans it seems HTC had a similar app already bundled with it.
Good Luck

1115$ = 2000 Turkish Lira and its very much. Smartphones at turkey is almost twice as expensive as usa or uk(thanks to taxes). As a turkish person I always buy smartphones from non-gsm and trustworthy places:good:

Hayırlı olsun.
For the battery, there are some simple thing you can do; but first you have to clarify what you mean by "what to do with the battery"?
Do you wanna treat it well to have a long lasting battery over months/years, or do you want to use it economically so that you can have a longer battery life for every re-charge.
The first one is easy. Never let it shut down due to no power, always re-charge before %10; and charge it more frequently during the day, not draining it all and recharging back to %100.
The second one is tweaky and after years, I've lost my faith since the time wasted to learn and use that battery saving stuff and also the brain damage, is not worth it. totally my own opinion.
Just try to use Wi-Fi is you're at home or at work for long periods, swtich to 2G during those times, lower the screen brightness as much as you can and shut down vibration where possible.
One thing though, as the word spread about HTC OneX+ arriving, most of the sellers have reduced the price for One X, around 1600TL (which is roughly $880). Did you but it from 2000 TL recently? If yes, that should better be bought on an agreement with Turkcell, if not then you paid a little more =)
Agree with all the battery advice above. This is good information.
Would also add to steer clear of task killers/ managers. Your phone will manage apps itself (though I know a lot of people think it is a bit aggressive on the one x). If you are constantly going in to shut down apps, your battery life will actually take a hit. Just leave it to settle down and do its thing.

Armenian here Speak turkish fluently, Parents from istambul also.
I have two HOX's both international, One is in repair, my backup though is wonderful when it comes to battery life, I also agree those battery savers, and task managers really dont do anything in my opinion, its more trouble then its worth. My HOX thats in repair didnt do very well with battery, its rooted and all, but battery really sucked, but when I get it back I'm going to do a bit of digging. My backup is amazing, currently 14 hours and still have 63% battery life, and I have really done nothing with the brightness or anything like that. The battery will really depend on your usage. If your going to play alot of games expect the battery to drain rather quickly especially with 4 cores. I dont play many games really, and heavily mainly talk, text, and play games maybe 3 or 4 times a month. From what I've seen, the battery doesnt take too much of a hit until you go past roughly 15 mins of playing an intense game, at which point the cores start to heat up and the constant screen being on which drains the battery quicker.
Also I would suggest dont use too many apps that sync in the background, thats another battery killer. And as great as live wallpaper might be, thats another one that drains it. If you use data as someone said try not to and use the wifi, I dont use data ever and have shut it down and just use wifi.
But based on my two Hox's I have to say I think build quality of the phone has a big part to play in the battery life, but I am going to do more testing on this once I get back my other phone from repair.

Battery life on android is way below the performance on symbian. But you have much more flexibility and apps on android then symbian.

You remind me the good old time with my Nokia phones (big like a brick) that could last 1 week with one single charge
Killing apps to "free RAM" (why do you need it free?!?) and preserving battery are two mutually exclusive things. My advice is to stay away from any automated task managers and accept the fact that the only way to preserve battery is to use your phone less.
BTW you could've come to Bulgaria to buy the phone - it would've cost you much less
