Hello guys, hopefully someone can help me figure something out. Whenever I install any of the custom kernels we have available, my device just gets stuck in a bootloop. With the exception of one kernel, that is the trinity alpha 23 which is clocked @ 17 something. All the other kernels are being clocked @ 1839. Or I should say not being clocked that high, but rather having the clock speeds open and available. What I am starting to believe is that my processor doesn't like to see those speeds at all! I was wondering if anyone else was having these same issues and results. Thank you and have a blessed day! By the way, I have stated my issue in both of the kernel threads of whom the kernels belonged to and didnt get a response from neither developer, that was my reason for posting here. Thank you.

now keep in mind i am the noobest of noobs in modifying phones. i have an Epic 4g and haven't even touched the surface on it's potential apparently from reading through this forum.
my question is (before i start doing anything else to my phone) what exactly does a custom kernel do for your phone?
also what exactly does a custom rom do for your phone?
I am currently running a rooted Epic 4g w/cwm and i am on the DK28 build.
what else does everyone reccomend for me to get the full experience from my phone? (in the way of a custom kernel and custom rom, since i am pretty affluent to most apps at the moment)
Well a custom rom is usually optimized for speed and responsivenes. All roms are different since devs usually put there own mods and thems in. Some are completely stock temed others are themed fully. Depends on what your tastes are. As for kernals they're usually overclocked and undervolted which means it'll be overclocked to 1.2 or 1.3 ghz and run at the same power level as 1ghz or less. Usually gives faster phone with beter response and overall speed. (Opens apps quicker) hope this gives a little insight. I'm personally running epic experience 2.0.07 and genocide kernal overclocked to 1.2 ghz.(not undervolted at 1.2 ghz only at 1ghz so battery suffers a bit). Waiting for next epic experience release.

that does help tremendously! i had most of it figured out but i wanted to be sure as to what they meant. i appreciate the help and i will be trying the rom and kernel you suggested!
No problem man.

I know that this belongs in the tread in development, but I don't have 10 posts yest, so xda won't let me post there.
So I flashed rom in the description last night, with no problems at all. It works great, but I was curious as to whether I could overclock with hydrakernel or some other sense kernel. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes if the kernel supports OC'ing then you can (most all of them do now). How high you can go just depends on your phone, everyone's is different. Some are stable at 1.119, others can even go past the 998 without becoming unstable. Download one you like, and see what works best with your phone.
Thanks Goosey
I am now running hydrakernal 1.13 with no problems up to this point.
Hello fellow XDA brethren!
I am reaching out to whomever may be able to give me an "advanced" type of explanation in regards to
modified kernels being applied to my phone.
T-Mobile Galaxy SIII (32Gb White)
I seem to be having issues with many of the kernels offered by some of the excellent developers in the t999 forum.
Namely, ktoonsez, and the other famous dev who's name escapes me right now.
When I flash kernels like those above, my main symptoms are:
Artifacting / Glitchyness in GUI.
Now... I know that some kernels are geared towards battery life and are undervolted to a point, I've tried everything,
volting back up. I've been flashing every one of them properly as well. I know that people say "all phones aren't created
equal", but i refuse to believe that mine is so whack that I cant even use anything other than stock kernels.
I firmly believe that these symptoms are from GPU overclocks that my phone simply cannot handle, (explains artifacts?).
I can use different roms with their respective kernels such as CM10, and a few of the other popular TW roms that are offered.
Here's what I was wondering:
Is there any application that I can use to control GPU overclock (to see if tweaking with this fixes it, to narrow it down
that my phones GPU is just very sensitive)
Are there any kernels out there for touchwiz that give me some nice benefits that dont have any GPU overclock?
What other methods can I fool around with to see exactly what part of my phone is weak?
Any suggestions are appreciated!
I get LOUSY batterylife / performance on tmo stock kernel.
If it were a PC, the first thing I would suspect of causing the artifacting issue is bad video memory. Combine that with the poor performance on stock, it stands to reason that you may have gotten a bad phone from the factory. I would suggest that you consider simply having it replaced under warranty, if you do have bad RAM in the phone the problems will only get worse.
What really is the difference between all these stock type kernels that are "deodexed" I am specifically talking about the ones that Scott puts out that are basically Samsung kernels?
Am I gaining anything by upgrading these kernels when the new ones come out.
If I use an international kernel will that do anything negative to my United States phone?
I am running cleanrom 4.0.5 right now and just flashed an "L7" kernel, from Scott's website that allowed me to mess around with boot animations.

I usually dont mess with the kernel because I actually tried NOTE2CORE and that was kind of buggy for me my infrared light is always on if you know what Im talking about. the light next to the ear piece. I also tried perseus and saber and I did not tweak them or anything like UV or OC them. If you are crazy about OC and tweaking them those two are your best bet. If you are like me and cant really tell the difference in speed then keep it stock. I am running the new stock kernel MA4 or something. I am running CLEAN ROM also but the AT&T version 1.2.
Hope this helps and good luck
Best thing to do is search forums. This question has been answered many times. And there is some great guides already written on any questions you have about kernels. Thats how I learned and found a rom that I wanted. The info/guides will inform you much better than a post like this.
(The thread was listed on the Q&A forum, but after not much help, I decided to look for help here!)
Hello everyone, this is my first topic on XDA after lurking for a while!
Anyways, today my topic is going to be concerning an Android Mini Tablet called the PlayMG. It's a WiFi tablet by a startup that's now gone bankrupt. The actual name of the device (development-wise) was the ACTScom A930. It was supposed to be a small 4 inch tablet like an iPod Touch with Android. You can find various info by googleing the name.
The specs go as stated:
ARM TCC8920 @ 960 MHz
1 GB RAM
4 GB DDR3 Storage
Android 4.0.4 ICS
Geekbench test:
http : //browser.primatelabs . com/geekbench3/356000
(sorry, I'm new so I can't post links until 10 posts)
The device was pretty cheap (around 90 dollars) and since then I've rooted it. I had to use SafeRoot because there is virtually no support anywhere for this device. As you can tell from the specs above, the device is fairly weak. My goal is to overclock the device to run at around 1.10-1.25 Ghz, however I'm stuck on the stock ROM and kernel. And as you can probably guess, there is no one to develop and overclockable Kernel for it. I have a few questions that I would like answered:
I was wondering are there any methods to overclock the stock kernel? Is that pretty much impossible?
Are there any ICS (or any) kernels that might work on this device?
Could I build the Kernel myself?
^Questions regarding this:
-Since the company went bankrupt, I can't really obtain a stock kernel, Could I somehow extract it from the device itself?
-If I were able to get the kernel, where can I go on XDA to guide me to building an overclockable kernel?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to overclock this device? I'm accepting all ideas, good or bad!
Thank you everyone in advance. All responses/knowledge is welcome!
