I want to try to determine what is the best rom 2.09 Froyo - based for HTC Desire.
In the last week I've tried a large number of ROMs. I've really liked 2 of these:
- Roufianos V6 (It's the one that I'm using at the moment)
- OpenDesire 3.0.4 (I know that the 3.0.5 is out but I haven't tried it yet)
Obviously there are many other excellent rom but I haven't got the time to try them, such as:
- Alex V1.1 official OTA cooked by Paul from MoDaCo (I've not tried it yet but I thing it is good)
- Lambros Custom Rom r3.1 --- I've tried it: in my opinion it's the best. Very fast, stable, no problem, no crashes. The chef always helps you and give you what you ask him! Fantastic! (link hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745447 )
- Pays-ROM
- Others....
Well, I don't know what is better.... can you help me choosing a ROM please?
If you thing that there are better ROMs instead of the ones that I've written, please tell me about them.
Thanks to all.
GiO

IMO this comes down to the "SENSE UI",
you wanna have SENSE and all the HTC bells and whistles? LeeDroid 1.8 or Neophyte NextSense 4.0
you don´t give a damn about SENSE (like me)? OpenDesire 3.0.5 is just AWESOME.
Both options are really good but it´s a question of personal preference I think.

I don't know if is necessary for me... I don't really like the launcher, I use Launcher Pro Plus and it works great! I also really like the Sense app, like contacts, music, app sharing, and apps like that... I really don't know what to do :S

has Leedroid gotten rid of the SD card bug now? i found a lot of bugs with 1.7 in fact i would go as far to say it was the worst rom i have tried (and i have flashed nearly all within the last 2 weeks.
i use neophyte nextsense aswell its v good. i haven't used a non-sense rom since the defrost one which was using the nexus froyo (back in june i think).
however from looking at the 'post your screenshots' thread in the themes and apps section i'm tempted to go back to non-sense as some of the roms and mods make it look really cool.

what does everyone think is the coolest / sexiest looking setup?
Neophyte 1.6. You will not go wrong. If you think those other roms are good, you will ejaculate in your pants with a neo Rom. I think that first neophyte Rom comes down to a fluke of nature. His latest Rom nextsense is good and I enjoy playing. But the occasional bug. Still better than anything else I believe.
I prefer modaco official version.
Neophyte 1.6 as said. You will not find a more stable or better ROM imo.
why don't you give a go on my rom....i saw you haven't mentioned it....
the latest r3.1 version is as stable a rom can be and i have 2 versions.....one if you want all the HTC apps and one with HTC Sense but without the apps, just launcher, widgets and main apps (people, dialer, mail, calendar)

My brother tried it and sad me that is a very fast and stable rom. The problem is that it's based on 2.06 relase... What are the differences between the 2.06 relasa and the 2.09 one (the official OTA rom) ?

I'd like to try your rom, I've seen it two night ago but the problem is that I'm very tired about doing the wipe every time!! And I don't know how to use titanium backup... that's the problem

i can help you learn it if you want....PM me if you do
believe me i tried a lot roms and not cause it's mine but cause it's true you will like it a lot...STABLE AND FAST....battery life is on the good side...i was on holidays last week for 7 days and i charged the phone just once (light use though, 10-15 calls, 20-30 pics daily and a couple sms) and in 7 day night i had to charge again...with medium-high use you can get 1.5 days if you charge properly....
BUT ANYTHING anyone says is not true until you try something...this is what i think....it may work on you and don't work on me who knows

What about the battery? How often do you have to charge the phone? In every rom I've tried the battery sucks!
as for the battery i think you can't compare it just right when you flash the rom....myself i do one full charging cycle and then rate a rom's battery life in order to get the full idea....
flash the rom, charge it till 100% (unplug before discharge) and then see how it does

hi lambrospower. I am just downloading your rom and will give it a try mate. Going back to your battery comment, this is a question that i have been thinking about for some time, but never got around to asking anyone, i hope you may know the answer for me? Since i have had my desire (3 months) the only way that i have ever charged it is with USB. Maybe once i have done a full charge with the 240v adaptor, the rest of the time it is plugged into my PC either charging or as a disk drive, my question is, will that make a difference to my overall battery performance? because i havent been charging it with the mains adaptor will my battery be "weaker" than a person that has always used the in-wall charger? I seem to get really bad battery life with most roms that i have tried (and believe me, i have tried a lot!!) yesterday i went out for a few hours, around 3 hours, battery was at 100% when i left, 3 hours later 55%!! now in my eyes that is a hell of a lot of decrease...... This was with NeYophyTeNexTSense rom (but i cant fault NeYo, he is a good chef, hats off to the lad, this is why i think its me thats either doing something wrong (settings) or it is in fact a battery problem??
Hi guys, I really like OpenDesire, but it's stock Google ROM (or based thereon) so it's got no FM Radio functionality. A question to all users of stock ROMs: how do you guys cope with the absence of an FM Radio knowing that hardware-wise your Desire supports it but the software does not have it? As for me personally, I've been tilting back and forth between OpenDesire-like ROMs and SenseUI-like ROMs, and it's still bugs me. On the one hand, I love the stock ROM for its cleanliness and overall looks (without Sense bells & whistles), but that I don't have the FM radio keeps bugging me like hell. Can anyone share their experiences?
Well... I browsed through the forum, and I'm pretty new. I read some stickies and the "read before posting" but still couldn't find my answer. I'm pretty much a noob with Android so I have a few questions.
I know when my HTC Vision gets here I'm going with Cyanogen, but I don't know what the difference between normal, nightly and experimental is. Well Exp. is prob beta, but whats Nightly?
Also I hear you can OC the Vision/G2, pretty well infact. I was wondering is it just an app? And how would you test for stability. Oh and what is YOUR max OC on your Vision/G2?
Cm has a few options. You got the normal or stable version. Then you got RC (release candidates) which you will find pretty stable. Then you got the nightlies.....VERY experimental they are updated every night.......
I forgot your other questions but uhh i run oc at 1.8

I use the stable cm roms because I have less trouble with it. For overclocking, you will need to install setcpu from the market after you flash your cm of choice. Then in setcpu its pretty easy to overclock it to what you want
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
as for the overclocking, there's a few methods to doing it. Some roms have a kernel already put in for it. Then there are a few update.zips that can be applied through your recovery loader just like you would install a rom. Then there's a adb push and install deal. Theres also a gscript module. If you're not familiar with adb or gscript then I would suggest installing a zip or a rom that comes packaged with it.

Just figured id jump in and link you with some literature to get you ready.
Your gonna need ADB to root your phone and other various things. So heres your starting point:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=ADB
Then you have to get root access in order to install custom roms:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=TMobile_G2:_Rooting
Then get a recovery image and install Cyanogen:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Vision:_Recovery_&_CyanogenMod
Hope that helps. The good people in this forum deserve a lot of credit. Dont forget to give thanks and shoutouts.
Haha, well all my questions have been answered. You guys are defiantly more helpful than asking my friends (whom envy the G2 bwahaha XD). Uhhh as for OCing, am I going to have to run a stability test of somesort? If so for how long. I mean I don't want it to be like Prime95 on the comp, that just takes like 2-4 hrs to ensure stability.
Also, @shortlived, what do you see as your battery life for a 1.8 OC, seems pretty sweet to get it up to a lower end Intel Atom processors clock.
So, my motorola DEFY(T-mobile US) should arrive from ups in about twenty minutes. As i am new to android, i' m just looking for some recommendations as far as roms and anything else you think would be beneficial. I will provide any necessary info upon request.
thanks in advance.
A stable ROM is Pays and BlurlessGinger or, if you are more experimental, theres a beta of CM7 out
Sounds like a good start. Ill check it out. Thanks.

I actually wouldn't recommend diving right into custom ROMs especially since it's your first Android device. Give yourself time to familiarise yourself with the system - at least then you'll know when something isn't working as it should.
I believe the official Froyo ROM for US is already out so I would stick with that
Why rush? Just get use with your phone, see what you miss and what to look for.

stable and smooth
I say if you're ready - go for it right away (why wait...especially since the bootloader is locked and you can't fully brick your phone).
I am currently using CM7, but have been having some issues (which is norm considering it's in its infancy and beta stage).
I've pretty much used most if not all the roms on here, and my personal favorite has been jboogies liquidarc. I liked the different launcher (sony erickson), and had everything working (including full screen recording/pictures), and got about 4 days between charges with moderate use...super fast and stable for me...might be going back if I can't get around these bugs in CM7.
I'm not having any problems with cm7

Im running CM7 beta 3, which seems pretty stable and is extremely fast, but as a starter id recommend barebones 1.4 as it is stable and flies for 2.2
i started with "sbf 3.4.2_177-005_nordic" (first test)
then just installed cm7 beta 3 and i aint looking back..go for it..but i to would recommend getting to no your phone first..
I flashed my first sbf after 3 weeks and many readings in this forum, still affraid, what's going to happen. And it is my second android.
I can reccomend 2 roms I used myself: barebones 1.4 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989 , or 3.4.2_177-005_nordic found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1037076 . First one is modded and i can tell u it uses (with right vsel settings) very small ammount of battery per day, and second one is motorola blureless one, but with motolauncher if u like it. It is good and stable, but uses a little bit more battery. I already posted this in thread before this one. But please reconsider flashing first day, cos motrola avoids warranty if they find out u have flashed something other than official firmware. I flashed my first android first day when i got it with CM6, but it was HTC so u can restore everything back in a few minutes like u did nothing wrong. On motorola there is a chance u can make some mistake thus make it undowngradable. Give your phone few days, i would give 2 weeks to see if it functions propperly. In meanwhile read forums and suggestions, and when u are 100% sure u dont have deffective device, start flashing. Till than we shall have CM7 at stable and full working release, so it shall make it worth flashing over every other froyo.
Thanks for the feedback and recs guys! For those of you telling me to wait, I never was much for waiting.
I ended up using pays 5.1 Frito with gingerbread feel. I am having problems with swype tho and I like swype, so tonight I'm gonna flash again.

Hi,
I've been having some good luck with this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046027
I'd thank ephumuris but I can't post on that thread, yet.
Olly
Barebones 1.4 its the most stable I've tried, best battery by far. Fritolays is working on 1.5 based on the nordic rom.
I would sign up for the swype beta in preparation-the beta is better than stock, they have made some serious improvements, but make sure to read up first if putting it in a rom that has stock swype, there's a process.
Just for fun, I would recommend Anim Mod from the market to get awesome flip animations etc.
Swype not working..
not exactly a fan.. but swype doesn't seem to be working on Barebones 1.4 ,my first custom rom... ... Any inputs ???
Hello everyone,
I'm new here and new to this scene, but familiar with hacking on other types of devices. My sis just upgraded her phone and gave me a Inc2. My first instinct was to hack it and so I ended up currently with a rooted S-off Inc2. My next issue is what Rom to use. I see so many out there and have had problems trying to install a couple. Since ther are so many, i know theres no clear cut "Latest and Greatest" but as i stand now, i have no clue where i should be looking. So I'm asking what u guys would consider latest and greatess. I'm really looking into going as high up in the OS as possible while also having the best stability with as much working as possible. Any Idea's?

What do you prefer? For ASOP, we have some very stable ICS CM9 ROM's and Stable CM10 Rom's. The CM10 ROMs don't have a working ffc camera or 720p camcorder, but everything else seems to work. For those who like sense, Nit's Sense 4 Viper Rom is quite nice. I typically change ROM's every two weeks, so i have tried quite a lot.
I vote for aeroevans CM10 or if you want ICS then Condemned Soul's Kangdemnation
Vivow using XDA Premium
Viperinc all da way
I'm so fresh you can suck my nits...

Well I'm not sure wether to go ASOP or Sense but from what i gather most ppl prefer ASOP, so I guess i would also. I generally would like to have everything working also.
Another thing thing would be that would i need to flash anything else besides the rom? Like kernels or anything?

Most of the op's have it spelled out exactly what to do , usually they include the kernel in the ROM
Btw : I think any of the still supported ROMs that you will find in the inc2 section are great I can't really quantify a ranking of them

Paranoid Android its a Phone/Tablet hybrid if you don't use the ffc or video that much it is my daily at the moment. "(11-4-2012)(JB)(CM10) Global 4.1.2 (4.2)" and "{10-25-2012}{Rom}{ICS} Official Global CM9" are pretty smooth running roms (I haven't had a chance to give build 3 of CM10 a try yet). "[ROM] [Port] Andromadus Mimicry 1.5 [CM9.1 Stable]" another very good ICS rom and very stable as well. Those are the ones I have been messing with the last couple of months. I think it is all in your tastes amigo. If you are a flashaholic like most of us I am sure you will try most of them.
ViperINC if you don't need BT audio. There are issues with the fact that the beats audio controls the BT audio and there is no output.

I have been tested for days different kernels and reflash of the hole rom (superwiped)
and the result always come up the same, mutch lower speed on the 3G connection compared to stock and a few coustom kernels.
I become a member to write this because i really like the SpeedWizz kernel.

Hi, sorry for delay on answering, but i found this thread just now, casually (I am the developer of the kernel).
I don't know if you solved this issue but i can suggest to switch to another TCP congestion control method using an application like tricksterMod and see if this makes any difference.
Sincerelly i've never experienced a problem like this, so i think you are at least the only one having this, very sorry.
Also if you need an updated kernel just use another one: i can't work on the project any more, as i am without device to test on.
Cheers..
