No service after flashing radio - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there!
I have flashed this radio: 6th September 2011: Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M - HTC 3.06.405.1 WWE to my Desire HD, then the proper RIL.
I used the following sources and guides and followed them step by step:
How to Flash a Radio.IMG Win/Mac by leith54
The HTC Desire HD Radio Thread by Drakknar
Radio Interface Libraries by jkoljo
And now my phone is unable to find a cellular network.
I have Cyanogenmod 7.2, Radio S-OFF, ENG S-OFF, SuperCID, ClockWorkMod Recovery.
I would appreciate any kind of help or ideas how to make it working.
Thank you!
Regards,
robi54321

Okay I managed to flash an older radio now. The 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2. And it's working again. So I'm good to go I guess. Heartattack is gone.
But I'm just wondering why is it that this version works properly and the other one doesn't?

Make sure that u flash a radio that is for your phone and not the Inspire 4G....besides being similar hardware are not the same (different frequencies), so always double check that the radio is compatible with your device and that the download is not corrupted by checking md5sum....:good:

I got the radio from the Desire HD radios forum not the Inspire 4G, and checked the MD5SUM also. I have flashed Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2.
Sometimes I have signal now, but it keeps loosing it.

Perhaps the problem was by flashing a different ril?
Since all non sense roms use one standard ril and shouldnot ve messed with unless its a sense rom.

Wait, what are you talking about now?
From what i get, you had 7.2 flashed a radio and ril, problem started, flashed another radio, its a bit better.
If that is what you have done till now, then just full wipe and flash the rom again to see what happens.
I have no idea what you mean by downgrade.
Radios are subjective by location. You ought to keep each radio for a couple of days to see how it works for you. They also affect battery usage and such.
Hence, just reflash the rom after a wipe and check it out.

The rom won´t solve the issue. Whenever you flash a radio you need to flash the matching ril. I have sent you and email. You will find all the information there, but ROMs don't flash radios but RILs....so if you change the radio just flash the correct ril for it.
Then you need to give the device time to settle...at least 2 or 3 days...

Unless Im mistaken, non sense roms all use the same ril. He is running cm7.2. He then flashed a radio and the corresponding ril, which in my assumption would be its for a sense rom.
Afterwards he flashed a different radio keeping all the same.
If he flashes the rom again,he will have the ril which is compatible with the rom. Thus possibly correcting the issue.
Correct me if I wrong.

Yeah that's correct I missed the CM7 thing...there's no need to flash RIL...and I guess that the radio is useless in non sense roms...probably he should go back to his original radio and then start all over again

What's the best radio for the T-Mobile G2? I've been using the .17 radio and have been getting mediocre wifi signal. Should I use the stock t-mobile G2 radio? Also I have the 82.0000 hboot but it doesn't say I have eng-off. Is there a way to get eng-off without using the stock hboot on the wiki?
Also what hboot do I need when flashing cm7?

Ive ran the 12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26 and now I'm on the 12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17 and to me it seems that the 26.04.02.17 radio is working better for me, about the same with wifi but a little better signal improvement with data over the network. I'm in the Los Angeles CA. area.

The only available ENG Hboot is the one on the XDA Wiki right now. I have the stock ENG. Hboot 0.76.2000 from the Wiki and have no issues with it, I'm able to flash everything that available for the G2, no problems.
Also what hboot do I need when flashing cm7?

You can use any hboot now for CM7 since rom manager released the official CWM recovery 3.0.0.5, it now supports both 2.2 and 2.3 roms. Even before this there were ways to flash the new recovery without the ENG. Hboot. and get Cm7 but now its, pretty straight forward.
Thanks for the quick and clear reply. I already flashed CM7 but with the 82 hboot and I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything properly. As for the radio, I'm gonna update to the new radio 12.28h.60.14 0f_26.06.02.27_M_ and get a new router, still using linksys wrt54g lol.
Also, when flashing new roms, for example CM roms, do they flash the radio? I think some do but im not sure.
Roms never flash a new radio.

Ours don't - only because the dev's don't feel the need to put it in there (no point). Other phones do it though, mostly when a stock upgrade is released (2.1 to 2.2 for instance) and there is also a radio update with it. It's literally a one line script you put in the update_script in order to flash a new radio.

about radios

Hi all i am currently using GV rom with radio:
32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
since i am having some wifi connection issues i was thinking of flashing the latest which is 5.17.05.23 at adams thread.
my qn is can i just flash the zip file over it and become 32.44.00.32U_5.17.05.23? i see some having 32.54 etc..
pls advice.
Thanks
If you are not s-off or flashed custom hboot, go to recovery, wipe dalvik cache + cache, flash as zip and reboot.
DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE WHILE FLASHING RADIO!!! If there something goes wrong, your phone will be bricked.

If you flash latest version and works correctly, you will have 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23.
And use the thanks button, do not say it.
Also have a look at your router and maybe consider changing the channel?
I have read several posts advising channel 11 or above
thanks for all the replies.successfully flashed new radio.
one more qn..currently i am thinking of going to sense roms.read that i need to flash matching ril for the radio i flashed?

It's only recommend to do this and as far as i know only for aosp roms. For sense roms you do not need to flash any ril after flashing radio.

[Q] help flashing radio

hi, new desire user here.
Im really confused about flashing radios.
Im scared to try cause I dont wanna brick my phone.
Im using cm7 hboot but in a while I will use the stock desire hboot for a rom as a requirement. and It requires a specific radio which is 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
my current radio is 32-48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
my questions are:
can I just flash my desired radio via cwm using the stock hboot?I dont know how to flash via fastboot nor adb
by the way my cwm is 2.5.07 I think?as I dont know how to update it to 4.x
anyone?
thanks desire community!
You can flash a radio via Recovery if your HBOOT's cache is large enough. CM7's isn't, the stock one is. Flashing via Fastboot is apparently the saftest way to do it, but I'm not sure why. The radio, I don't believe, is ever required..just recommended so don't bother flashing it if you really don't want to.
If you need to like i did, no problem with stock hboot, don't know about your recovery, i did it with Amon Ra 2.0, just flashed it with no problem,

Flashing radio without enough cache can brick your phone!!! Do not do if you have a small cache partition, like with cm7, data++ or oxygen.!!!
Flashing a radio with fastboot is the safest way, yes. And not really risky. Here you have nice guide about fastboot which should answer nearly all of your questions:
http://androidforums.com/desire-all...fastboot-windows-updated-1st-june-2011-a.html
thanks guys! now I have the radio I want.
my new problem is now I cant seem to find a suitable rom with wireless N support.
haha by router broke so Im using my laptop as a adhoc hotspot
gave y'all thanks!
Some developers recommend a certain radio due to the RIL built into their rom, more information here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902752

[Q] Flashing custom ROM for the first time

Hi,
I have a UK unbranded Desire HD, 2.3.3 stock rom installed, however it is the official version that was leaked ahead of the UK release. Before upgrading to this ROM I did the downgrade process and while I was there I did the Radio and ENG S-offs. I also have root and have confirmed this using the terminal emulator.
My question is - Do I have to re-downgrade to a stock ROM lower than 1.7 to flash a custom ROM or is that done to get Radio and ENG S-off?
Also - When flashing a new radio, as one is recommended for the custom ROM I'm thinking of trying (Virtuous Unity), do I need to back up the original radio, or keep a note of what version it is with my nand backups? or is already backed up when I do the nand backup? This is in case I wanted to return to stock at some point in the future.
Any help is appreciated,
Cheers,
Grim.
If you already have root and s-off i would assume that there is no reason to downgrade again. As far as i am aware radio is not backed up by a nand backup so be best to take note of what radio you have.
Hit thanks if it helped

Thanks Ricey!
I've taken a note of the Baseband version in the settings-->about phone section which I think is the radio version ?
I'm about to try it now so wish me luck!

Hmmm, I didn't took note about radio used before flashing new ROM, but I have original ROM backed up. Now I have to find out somebody who have the same device not rooted and take a note about radio, right? that will be a problem, but not impossible... At least, I have NAND of original ROM
Flahing an original RUU also flashes the stock radio so wouldn't worry about it too much

Great, I was not aware about this. Thanks for clearing this for me
Thanks guys,
I'm now rocking Virtuous Unity 1.27 and it works a treat!
I haven't bothered flashing a radio, and won't unless I notice some issue, so far calls, wifi and mobile internet all work fine!
Also something weird did happen during the process - I did a titanium backup of all my apps and copied them off the sd card to my pc, then formatted the card (on the phone).
I then set about wiping the phone in the way described in the tutorial I read (using a zip called full wipe in the clockwork recovery)
After flashing the new custom ROM I booted up my beautiful new ROM, went through the initial setup only to find some of my old apps still on the phone!?
Noting in the Virtuous thread that a full wipe is REQUIRED, I thought, ok I'll wipe again and re-flash.
I did so, but this time I wiped through Clockwork (there's an option when you flash the rom through this app).
Same again! some old apps remained.
I then tried again, wiping using the technique in the video on the RCMix page (unmounting certain options in clockwork recovery screen).
Same again!
I carried on with the old apps still there, though have since uninstalled them for good measure.
Also, when I restored from the Titanium backup it annoyingly didn't link them back up with the market - I believe this is possible, but only with the paid version of Titanium.
If I hit any issues I'll let you know
Just a note about flashing radios. You may wan't to flash the recommended radio (pretty much the same for all ROMs these days) basically due to the fact that the chefs built their ROMs around that radio, and they know the optimisations are built for that one.
I have noticed some realy significance in battery drain when using an unmatched Radio when i thought i knew better than the Chef.
But gratz on your new ROM hope you enjoy being one of the free
Thanks for pointing that out wbbigdave, I wouldn't have taken that into consideration. I'll have a look at flashing the recommended radio tonight.
Cheers,
Grim.

What happens to radio when I root stock rom?

Hi, I was just wondering what happens to custom radio when I flash stock rom? Will I get the stock radio back or do you know where I can download the stock radio?
Thanks

Which radio were you running and which one are you running now? It all depends on how you root your device. If you unlock the bootloader, then nothing happens, but if you run the hack kit, you will have the lastest 2.3.3 radio, but as you would be S-OFF you can flash the radio you want back again.

Radios are never a must. You can use ARHD with the radio you have at the momento and the rom will run ok. Radios are suggested by the developers as they test or assess several radios in the process of developing the rom. However, you can still use the radio you have and probably will never experience any bug.
If you want to flash a new radio, you can always go back to the previous one as long as that file is to download. Check the radio threads to see how to flash a radio and always make sure that you check that the md5sum match.
If you need further help use the guide in my signature...
Nothing will happen to radio if you flash a stock ROM in recovery. The radio only changes if you manually flash one, or if you run an RUU. Radios are region specific and if your country uses less common frequency bands, then the one for your region will be the best. Latest is not best for radios.
