Yea, it was weird, when I called my brother from my phone (He has a T-Mo cell phone) his voice was freakin loud and clear! But then when I called our house phone, I couldn't hear a freakin thing. Idk what T-Mobile did to this phone, but they really messed it up. And they messed up my stylus when removing my battery case. T-Mo doesn't give a sh*t about WinMo anymore (not like they ever did).
But otherwise, the phone is a good upgrade from my T-Mo Wing.
And hello everyone! I'm gonna be helping out the community, just like I did with the T-Mobile Wing. You can see what I did for them here: http://thewingster.com/
yeah in call volume sounds very muffled and low compared to the wing...
Same thing. Neither .cab or AudioPara file helps.

So, I've been searching and searching, and only found a raphael tweak that wouldn't work. Anyone found that cab?
My in call volume is fine. I am assuming everyone knows you can press the volume up button while on a call and it increases the volume.
Ace nice to see you you have a TP2...can't wait for you to start cooking.

I agree.... The in call valume is TOO LOW!!
I keep pressing phone against my ear. OR I have to switch to Speaker everytime I want to talk to someone. Please HELP!!!
Ok so with all you guys reporting problems and I am not I thought maybe I have been calling t mobile numbers as I can not remember who all is or is not on tmo. So I just called 5 different people who either are on Sprint, Verizon or land lines and my volume is very loud. In fact I could hear the other person without having to have the phone next to my ear. Not exactly sure why you all are having problems.
My touch pro 2 its good i can hear well the outside speaker sound clear and nice its not too loud like other phones i had but the quality its great doesnt sound like some cheap loud phone speakers

No, it's known that the volume sucks. Maybe you have a non-T-Mobile version, but we know it's terrible. We know that. Plain and simple.

I'll wish you luck too.
I'm thinking maybe a custom ROM might change something, but idk.
Maybe I should use this against T-Mobile for a barganing price on the phone, since I'm a "loyal customer", lol.
I have a T-Mo version TP2 and my incall volume is great. There is only one person I can barely hear on the phone and that's one of my friends but I couldn't hear him with any phone I have so I'm pretty sure it's his phone not mine.

So I guess T-Mobile is distributing faulty phones to some of the users. Not sure how many got the crapy phones though, because only people with problems will complain.
Idk, it's just really weird how mine sounds fine with other T-Mobile customers. idk.

on mine, it's "muffled". Sounds like it either lacks highs... or it's too bassy.
I took my T-Mo TP2 to our local corp-owned store and had my wife call me from her cell; once on my TP2... then on the stores demo TP2 (with both volumes set to max). The audio qualities were identical to each other. So I know the problem is not with my specific unit.
Well to me yes the phone does have a little more bass incall then my last device but I can hear people just fine the volume is good to me. I actually like using the speakerphone more often then not anyways!
One thought though. You may try turning off noise reduction that may take care of that problem. Settings-->Phone-->Advanced tab
I can't say that will fix anything but it might!

Speaker phone doesn't have the best sound quality, but that's aside the point.
My earpeice speaker is literally silent when talking to certain numbers. It's clearly a difference. And no other phone sounds that quite when talking to certain numbers, so it's the Touch Pro 2.
FYI, now that the phone is officially released in the UK, looks like Google updated http://www.google.com/nexus with some useful information.
N.B. the specs page for the US version of the site only lists the CDMA/LTE version. Perhaps evidence of a Verizon exclusive, at least temporarily. It also confirms that the LTE version is 9.5mm thick, weighs 150g, and comes with a 1850mAh battery.
The Galaxy Nexus youtube account now has instructional videos:
http://www.youtube.com/user/googlenexus
N.B. This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXrgIFMfsaQ shows what the back of the Verizon version looks like, and further confirms a Verizon exclusive, for now.
Samsung UK also opened up their full Galaxy Nexus page: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/android/GT-I9250TSAXEU
it's a shame when Google release it to almost all the network at UK at the same time and US it will be later and just Verizon

Look on the bright side. Right now only the US and UK have the updated page. All other countries are still on the old teaser page. Which means the US should be the next to get it...maybe...

Also this confirms the 9.5mm thickness and 1850mAh battery of the LTE version that was posted some time ago by a bunch of Chinese tech sites.

Interesting...according to the quick start guide, what we thought was a microphone on the back of the phone near the top is indeed a microphone, but it's not a noise canceling microphone, it's used for video recording and speakerphone calls.

Considering how much Samsung have shown themselves to be completely incompetent with this phone, maybe it's not too far a stretch to assume that PDF is incorrect.
It makes no sense to have a separate mic just for video recording and speakerphone calls when every other phone has managed just fine with only one main mic on the phone.
It is way more plausible that the mic on the back is for noise cancellation.

Stereo microphones are a godsend for video recording on this phone if the PDF is right.

No, it's not. Samsung have been using microphones on the back of their phones to enable stereo audio recording since 2009.
Amaze has like 18 mics and the audio recording still sucks ass.

Perhaps I should've been more clear. Samsung have in the past used dual microphones, with one on the back, for video recording. There's one on my Omnia HD.
Some more interesting things I found on the US google.com/nexus site:
http://www.google.com/support/ics/nexus/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1649769&topic=1650156
This page only mentions CDMA and LTE. Since it's the generic help site for the US Galaxy Nexus, this is probably further confirmation that Verizon has an US exclusive for a while. On the plus side, it confirms that you can turn off LTE if you want to.
http://www.google.com/support/ics/nexus/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1650164&topic=1650156
This page is about tethering. Notice it says nothing about feature availability by carrier, nothing about the possibility of needing to pay extra for this service, nothing about these options potentially not being available. Remember that these help pages are for now specific to the CDMA/LTE version, which means this page is talking about tethering on Verizon. This raises the possibility that even on Verizon, the tethering capabilities of the Galaxy Nexus are completely untouched. Which, if true, probably means that Verizon wasn't able to tamper with the base system at all.
Guys, I didn't get it yet. What the mic on the back is for? For noise cancellation or what? And I've just checked that in spite of having 2 mics, video records in mono (using the mic on the back). Is that possible to record using 2 mics (stereo audio recording)?
That is correct. Its for noise cancellation during calls.

This is a mega rant. I have had the phone for about 2 months now, and always thought the issue was only with my device and i should give it to the service center, which was always delayed because of something or the other.
Now recently i suggested the One X to another friend of mine, and he did the same to another friend of his.
On all our phones the microphone quality is just pathetic, the person on the other side of the call is always complaining of the call being muddy or muffled, so to speak and i sound pretty much illegible most of the time.
Though a little bit exaggerated maybe, but im super pissed!
This is what i mailed them :
The microphone quality on my HTC One X is seriously disappointing. I cannot remember one call in which the person on the other end has not complained about my Voice being "muffled" or "muddy" and completely illegible. In fact i am not the only person facing this issue; this has been mentioned in a lot of reviews as well. But i never could have imagined that this issue will be so pronounced!!
I am using a Vodafone connection in India. Exact location is NOIDA, UP (NCR region).
I tested a friends phone as well, and the exact same problem!!! His phone is barely a week old! (He is on Airtel btw.)
Not only am i regretting getting the One X over the Galaxy S3, but i have to bear the constant nag from my friend to whom i had recommended this phone over the Galaxy S3 (AGAIN!).
I have owned the Nexus One, the HTC Desire Z, the HTC Sensation, the HTC G1 and the HTC Hero!! I have always loved the amazing build quality! But one thing that was flawed in all of these devices was the earpiece volume. Though that could be managed with.
HELL! My 3 year old Nexus One sounds crispier!!
And no I have not reached any conclusions by just calling one no. or phone.
I tested the call quality by calling the One X (and calling from the One X) the following devices:
Motorola Atrix / Motorola DEFY / Samsung Galaxy S / Samsung Note / Samsung Galaxy S3 / Nokia Lumia 800 / HTC Nexus One / Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Samsung Nexus S.
It has been 2 months since I purchased the device.
With the One X the ear piece quality was fixed, but the microphone quality just went down the drain!
I cannot even use the phone as a PHONE! ?
I think I just wasted Rs. 36000 ($650) on a top of the line “HTC” device, which is soon going to be “replaced” but the rumored “HTC One X+/CL” ???
Is this how dependable HTC has become? It has been barely 6 months since the HTC One X was released and a new top of the line device already in the works? Is this how the premium customers are treated?
I know that all I will get out of this “rant” is a typical –“We are sorry that you are disappointed with the device and request you to get you device checked at the nearest HTC service center mail”, but I really had to get this through, because I really feel that my trust in HTC as a competent manufacturer of quality mobile devices has been broken and is un repairable.
Im ordering the Galaxy S3 as soon as I reach the US next month to start my PG studies there, at least I will get good support for the money I spend. And most of all will be able to use the phone as phone.
From here on I will not recommended the HTC One X to anyone or as I should put it as- any HTC device from now on.
I am sorry, but I am just throwing away the phone into some drawer and will be using a cheap Nokia phone, which again has far better call quality, than my $650 HTC ONE X! , till the time I get my Galaxy S3.

My LCD is fine, there is a screen gguard applied on it. the scratches on the camera lens though are because of it protruding outwards of the back body. so whenever iI place it on a hard oor alight dusty surface.. the lens makes contact and gets scratched.
This really isn't of any concern to me. I will as it is getting a replacement BLACK back panel.
Also the Mic ports are perfectly lint or dust free.

Trap that was thethe first thing iI tried myself.
The Mic recording quality is top notch to say the least... but this is when recording in PCM. Which almost impossible to use for transmitting over a network call.
Try calling youself from another phone... mute it (the other phone) and then try speaking to yourself. Compare this with the recording.
Over the past iI tried swapping the radio as well.. even tried different RIL combinations. Still no change.

This is not a new thing... it is just too pronounced in my case.

If it helps, I've used the phone in the UAE and India(!dea and Vodafone) I'm on Idea right now.
Can you try to describe the muffling a little better? Does your voice get muffled real bad i.e people can't understand jack-**** or what?
And yea warranty will take long, you won't be able to claim warranty in the U.S either. I can't claim my UAE warranty in India unless I pay $30 for shipping to an International HTC Service Center.
I have (extensively) tested 2 different, brand new, Note II phones (Rogers and Bell) and when the volume is set louder than 1/2 on voice calls they both return somewhat distorted sound due to the speaker itself vibrating, crackling, especially at high pitch or low frequency sounds/voices. The closest comparison - although grossly exaggerated - would be much like a busted speaker (broken membrane), or more like the membrane touching the frame when the sound is too loud. It's not continuous but it rather comes and goes depending on the voice modulation and loudness, and although one may normally overlook it, it gets quite noticeable (and annoying) when paying attention.
On the other hand the very same phones perform exceptionally well when playing any other kinds of sounds (not calls) - YouTube music or voice, Music Player, Pod-casts, Radio, etc - they are all fine, more than fine actually.
Anybody else has noticed that?
P.S. Please don't make comments like "I don't use loudspeaker on calls", or anything alike, I didn't start this for statistical purposes, but rather to figure out whether I bumped into some isolated cases or it's a rather common issue on our Note 2.

I already wrote a post about this. Don't think there's anything wrong with the phones speaker because when playing music, youtube etc..., at the highest volume, there is not crackling happening. I think It has to do with the cellular reception and how the signal gets converted to the speaker. The way the phone handles the calls. Hope a software update can fix this.

That's exactly what I was thinking and, otherwise the reason behind testing myself 2 different Note II on two different networks. The only reason this still bothers me is because I came from an S3 and I was using it the same way, yet NEVER experienced this. On the other hand I know that for marketing purposes Samsung "pushed" the loudness of the loudspeaker on the Note II and while they may have had strict control in digital conversion of the sound files played through various apps, there wasn't much they could do/control about voice (due to multiple network variables).
I have not noticed this on a voice call, however on some games like Angry Birds Star Wars it does this when the volume is all the way up. Glad I am not the only one to notice this. I have the Verizon version of the Note 2. Mine also does not crackle during music play back. Guess its something we are going to have to live with. I even popped the back of the phone off to see if it helped and it did not. IMHO its sad considering how much the device cost. I paid outright for it.
I also hear this anomaly.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
One would think with the size of this phone that it would have a nice size speaker that could handle it all without issue.
i had 3 note 2 ..i had to switch them out for various reasons..but all 3 including my current note 2 has the same call problem using the loud speaker..but again music and everything else comes out perfectly fine..just on calls only..so guess its normal and we cant do anything about it..
I also went through 2 Note 2's for this reason and have the same speaker issue. I have friends on Tmobile with same issue as well.

This is odd..... I have never had any problem with voice calls on speaker. Whats really weird is I came from the SGS2 Skyrocket and it had this very same problem, only voice calls on speaker . I was happy when using the Note2 because I no longer had this issue. Maybe it is hardware related, not the speaker but a chip or something

Yes, having the same issue here. Went from hunting down Volume + for my G-Nexus to looking for a way to throttle the volume on my Note2's external speaker .
Its like Samsung got tired of people complaing about low volume on some devices so they went the complete other direction and over powered the external speaker.

I don't really use speakerphone so... j/k yea I've had that problem, work with Samsung phones all day, and it does seem to be a consistent issue. I'm not familiar with Canadian carriers are those both gsm or is there any cdma in there? I know gsm has weaknesses when it comes to the digital to analog conversion & back.. your voice is converted to digital for backend transmission and back to analog on the other end. Maybe the note has some weakness in this area. It would be interesting to hear anyone's experience with a cdma note though.

Any one else experienced the microphone being extremely muffled. I mean I can record a video right in front of the mic and I can barely hear myself..
Yes, it's a known issue. There's a patch to fix it but It didn't work for me. Give it a try just in case.

If this is not an official patch than is no good. Anyway i don`t believe OnePlus acknowledged this issue yet

Are you on the community build or stable? They fixed that a while ago on stable , but I noticed the problem again in the community build.

I'm not sure guys my mic was actually being covered up by sand. I went to the beach and dropped the phone I had to take mine apart and clean it. Which thankfully when great
I'm having the same issue. I have a support call with Tier2 tomorrow, but if this isn't resolved I can either try the root and disabling noise cancellation hack, or sell this device.
This is a major issue as I use Skype calls a lot. If the person I'm talking to can't hear me, then it's worthless.
Otherwise I really like this phone. I switched over to an Axon 7 (that handles the Skype calls just fine), and while it does have some good points such as the screen and speakers, the OnePlus 3 really is the overall better phone with much better software. But something simply like microphone gain is so basic I am surprised that OnePlus has such a problem after multiple software updates.
Hi, like this thread! Hope that will help to wait not longer for fix in official version
