After using my Nokia Lumia 900, I decided to go back to my Galaxy Nexus. Since I had to use a Micro Sim for my Lumia I put it in my Galaxy Nexus and it doesn't connect to the network. There are also no APNs on the list on my phone and when I add a new one and hit save; it disappears.
I have the MSim right over the contact points; any ideas other than getting a new SIM?
A guy on YouTube replied to my comment by saying this:
If you have a micsrosim, your likely on the data plan for iphone. Which only allows you access to the "WAP" apn. You can not use PTA or PHONE on a iphone data plan. Go to the store and ask for a regular sim, and a data plan for 4G phones.
Is what he says true? Prior to using my Lumia I used my Micro Sim in my GN and it worked fine....
Tried a microsim to normal sim adapter?

Do they sell that any stores? or are those just like from NewEgg and Amazon?
Someone please help!
So you're saying you put a micro sim without the adapter in the GNEX?
You can buy them cheap in those electronics stores or phone accessories stores. It's just a piece of plastic the size of the normal SIM with a microSIM cutout in the middle. 50 cents to a dollar I guess.

Seen it before? Alternatively you can make one on your own if you have an existing normal SIM. Link here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Create-a-Micro-SIM-to-SIM-Adapter/3183/1

Not happening to me, and I'm on Domination
It's because you don't have a sim card in your phone.

For the sake of Cam R I sure hope it is so, but for the sake of LG, I hope it's not the case, otherwise I'll be convinced their developers must have been dropped on their head at birth.
I had the same problem until I put a sim card into my phone, so it's not really an LG problem.

Do you mean different phone? Atrix 4G and HTC Inspire doesn't suffer this nonsense.
Just tested with no sim card - no problem here.
Using stock rom Nitro HD (Att)
How does a SIM card affect hardware settings? Screen brightness shouldn't have anything to do with the SIM card. I just pulled my SIM card and still had full control of screen brightness.
If you factory wipe your data and set your phone up initially without a sim card, you won't be able to change brightness. I'm not saying it makes sense, but I found others had the same problem as me and when they put in their sim it worked. And it worked for me too.

Wow, that's crazy. Just doesn't make sense.
Hi friends. Today I am going to buy a GN from someone (craigslist).
I just want to know how to know if it's the GSM version (which is what I want) or the Verizon version.
Scammers are a dime a dozen so I just want to make sure.
THANKS
i515 is Verizon
i9250 is GSM
the Verizon back cover says "Verizon" on it...
the GSM back cover says "Google" on it...
the Verizon box is red inside.
the GSM box is green, blue, red, and yellow inside.
You can put your GSM SIM in the Verizon model and it won't work...
You can put your GSM SIM in the GSM model and it will work...
etc.
Flip it over and pull off the battery cover (assuming you don't see a Verizon logo)

Left: GT-i9250 (GSM)
Right: SCH-i515 (CDMA/LTE)
Also of note is the GSM version uses a full-sized SIM card. The LTE version uses a MicroSIM for the LTE SIM.

THANK YOU (I hit "THANKS" if it makes a diff)
So, I just bought a galaxy nexus UK international unlocked version. It has 5 pins on the sim reader and only reads Simple Mobile sims, doesnt read Straight Talk, AT&T and T-Mobile. When the seller called the Play Store, they claimed the nexus only has 5 pins. Could you please post pics of your sim slots? Thanks
I am the seller and got two different answers. The first person I spoke to said it only had 5 and said they would send a user manual that showed that. When I didn't receive the manual, I called back. The second person I spoke to said he would take a picture and send it to me. Here it is.

Your phone should read every sim card you have.

Bought mine from an importer, a Canadian version technically. It has the same pin layout as the picture above.

Considering that SIM connections/slots are standard and the European unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus are identical to the Google Play Galaxy Nexus in terms of hardware there should be no reason why they shouldn't read the same SIMs.

Joesalve, is your motherboard still available?
By the way, there is one available at Ebay now but it has broken contacts for volume buttons cable, see the picture below.

Must be as below
I talked with our local mobile repair guy and it is possible to solder the cable (in case he finds the solder points) and replace the mainboard for $25 total.
A few weeks ago I went overseas on vacation and had no service at all, not even roaming. Only way I had service was when I was at a WiFi hotspot. This is the first time this has happened. Is it the ROM I'm on? Do I have to call Sprint? Some feedback would b help guys, thanks.

That's because you have a CDMA phone and most of the world uses GSM (sim card). Unless you get an international version you are pretty much stuck with no signal overseas.

Had the Samsung Epic when I was overseas and had roaming though. Also have a sim card as well with the phone I'm on now.
