I just checked for updates on my ATT GS3, and it said there is an update and started downloading it. Anybody knows what the update contains? Is it meant to remove features like search?

Well, I first though it was a new update since I was getting errors last week when checking for updates or got a message saying no updates available. But, it seems like its the update that was released 2 weeks ago. What is UCLG1 radio update for?

I let it update without thinking and lost my integrated search. That's how I find my apps...very upset that I did that. Be warned.

Yep this is the update to resolve a patent dispute between Apple and Samsung regarded the integrated search. sucks man.
You know you can reinstall the universal search version. There's threads with instructions.

Of course.... Apple dipping their grubby little mitts where they don't belong yet again. They really just need to curl up into a little ball and die already. Keep making computers, hell.... keep making tablets and phones.... just let others do their thing, too. It's one thing if they're completely ripping you off and keeping the same look you have. It's a whole different ballgame if they supposedly did so YEARS ago, and have surpassed your OS sooooo far in design and functionality that you are getting scared. Android has already beaten you.... so stop trying to beat it like a dead horse, Apple.
Its not really a trivial function, integrated search, despite how easy it us for us to use. So to developers.. and to shareholders if companies like this, its easily worth suing over

I haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, and yes, I know there's another thread about the "confirmed" Dec update from a top dev but I figured this is worthy of its own thread. Sounds like the update might only be for the GSM versions of the phone, and we might have to wait for our specific Epic Touch update, but things must be close at this point.

Indeed my friend.
Sent from the future.
Carriers hold back updates??? They would never do such thing.
I know some updates the carrier has to purchase from the manufacturer and some are free. I don't quite understand where the dividing line is but having to pay for an update would surely slow down a carrier's intention of pushing an update.

P.S. Samsung released Android 3.2 update for my Galaxy Tab 8.9

so when they do release this for our phones, will i need to unroot to install it? or can someone make a side load for it so we don't have to? any idea?

Amen brotha!
Once the first XDA user who knows what they're doing gets an update, it will be posted here so fast that many will find out about it here, not by getting it via OTA. They push them out over several days so most likely there will be a full stock tar to Odin before many of us get it.

Because the international version is getting something first?
Okay.... the international version also came out first.
The international versions of Samsung devices always get it first.
Samsung has proven time and time again that they are more concerned about the international market than they are the U.S.
It's funny how quickly people forget about history when trying to assign blame.
It's like XDA members live their lives to blame the carriers for everything.
Dammit, it's raining and cold out side, stupid Sprint!
It does make me wonder why AT&Ts Skyrocket just got 2.3.6 pushed to it on 11/22 though, which was released almost 2 months after Sprint's E4GT. Then again, why the Skyrocket and not AT&T's non-LTE GSII? Who knows why these guys do what they do.

My exact thoughts!!
Yeah. 949 kb is tinyyyyy. I can't believe Verizon would be this quick about an update Google has been working on for a week and released a day or two ago! But no..... a somewhat major software revision has to take 2 months. I realize the fact that it is only a very, very small update, and it doesn't change any major software/radio stuff... but still. You know what would be cool? If verizon pushed out software updates (i.e 4.0.4, 4.1) clean at first, then follow up with a second update on the radios.

If you've already installed it, the easiest way would be to look through the log files in /cache with a text viewer and look for a file name ending in .zip.

Wierd, even verizons support site doesn't have this update listed. http://support.verizonwireless.com/system_update/galaxynexus.html. Normally they list the update a few days before roll out on that site. Unless they really had to rush to get around the ban. Curious what's in this update, or if its real.

Yeah, i know thats what it probably is. Verizon just always puts out a pdf on the support sites of their phones no matter how minuscule the update is. Like one that turned off the initial 4g free tethering last year said something like "enables 4g tethering plans" or something like that. Oh you tricky VZ...

Definitely very weird that VZW wouldn't have updated the support PDFs. They update those things religiously when there's an OTA.
I hope this IMM76Q update isn't another IMM30B where someone accidentally pushes it to a few devices, shuts it off, and it fades into the ether, leaving anyone who applied the update stranded.

Technically, the updates come from Google. Since this update has nothing to do with aspects that would be specific to carrier use they probably didn't involve Verizon in this one.

As far as I'm aware, that's not an option. I believe VZW has to test and approve every single OTA that goes out to a phone on their network, regardless of how small or whether there is anything carrier-specific in it.
Apple is the lone exception to this rule. Verizon lets them do whatever the hell they want with the iPhone and iPad.
I spoke to a verizon tech rep this week---he said there was an update pending and suggested it was more about a radio fix. However, I'd take that with a grain of salt

There is no update for the N10.1-12; there's a single incomplete leak for the 3G version. Between the Wi-Fi, 3G, and LTE versions of the N10.1-14 taking in to account the dozens of different regions they're sold in it'll take months before everyone here receives their update. Some will get it early in the process and be happy and some will get it toward the end and be miserable. It's the way it goes every update cycle including the latter group *****ing here to no avail and swearing never to buy another Samsung device again. Lather.Rinse. Repeat.

From article
"Samsung hasn't confirmed any Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for its devices; however, at least one device from the manufacturer is certain to receive the new software. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition should be among the first devices to receive Android 5.0."
So, we should be among the first to get the update. It will likely be out in the Google Play Edition ROM's first, and official update probably a lot later. I wouldn't expect it to come too soon, but it will arrive.

It can be "possible" that the Android L can prevent root. But that is mainly for phones with a locked bootloader, which we dont have........
But, first it was Knox, now Google is trying to make it to where you cant even root your phone. Go to the Portal and read this.
