What's the purpose of this if I press it and tells me I'm up to date but wake up this morning and tells me update has been downloaded and is ready to install.

Really?
Depending on your version You checked it hit server found your up-to-date.
New update put on server, you are on its list to get update it downloaded and tells you.
Not on Sprint Galaxy Nexus

I got a verizon nexus today and shortly after I got it I got a notificationp of a update which was the 4.0.2 well I kept choosing install later because I had heard that some of the problems didnt start till after this update. Problem is now when I check for updates it says my phone is up to date but it is still operating on 4.0.1 and I have tried a factory reset but the 4.0.2 update willl not show up. Is that going to be a problem and should I return this phone for another one ..

I saw this trick the other day. Open the phone dialer and type in *#*#checkin#*#* or the numeric is *#*#2432546#*#* and then try the system updates again in the settings menu like you were before.
As I understand it, this pings the server and more or less forces the update to poll to your phone. Only if you don't have the latest version. This I'm not 100% sure on all the information about the checkin call, but its worth a try.

Devices with android 3.1 and up have a check in button within the system updates page which does the same thing. The checkin code is not needed anymore.

Oh, so checking for updates is the "checkin" process made easy. Knowledge is power.

This worked for me too, but it crashed while updating in recovery. My phone is stock, and now when I try the trick again, I can't get the update...

Honestly I think the main thing is clearing the data and checking. People seem to be throwing in other steps that I didn't do, but who knows maybe its a different situation for others.
Plus we're going to start seeing a ton of threads with variations of this "trick".

well worked for my galaxy nexus 4.0.4, its now updating to 4.1 thx to op
This worked for me. I have been checking every five minutes for the last couple days, clearing Framework, restarting, using different networks, and as soon as a tried this I received the update. Another thing to note, I checked for the update right before I used this "trick" to make sure it wasn't just a coincidence and I was still receiving the dreaded "Phone up to date" or whatever. So for this to be a coincidence would be a pretty low probability.
Thanks OP.
Even if this didn't do anything, I got the update finally.

Worked beautifully! I now have Android 4.1.1.
One quick correction: Google Framework is Google Services Framework.
Also, until 13 July 11:28 P.M. Google will only permit you to install using WiFi.
I tried it worked then restored root with voodoo. I am forwarding this info to others. A lot do not know about this.
my other phone is Nokia maemo n900
I did your trick, it working for me. But when it installing I get this error ; E : signature verification failed
I only rooted en unlocked the bootloader..
Thanks
Hey all,
I've been continually checking my Nexus for the JB update and it keeps saying that my software is up to date. Its annoying. I'm rooted and unlocked but I'm running the stock rom from the Google Play Store where I ordered it. I even went as far as to restore the original recovery. Anyone have any ideas?

Right, I have the GSM model. From the Google Play Store. Bought it a few weeks back. Unlocked and all.

Go to: Settings - Apps - All - Google Services Framework. Hit "Clear data" and then check for the update again. I had to do it 7 times to get the update.

You should not be rooted and should have XXLA2 Radio and latest bootloader
Can someone who got the official OTA for their GSM Galaxy Nexus please check for me
1. Does the Google Music app have the announced ability to save a ringtone using the triangle pop up menu of a song?
2. What version number of Google Music shipped? I'm looking for a number higher than 4.3.605.392829...which does NOT have this feature.
Thanks in advance
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
1. Nope, not as far as I can tell.
2. v4.3.605.398337
Yep I've seen both versions and neither has the ringtone editing feature. This means that either Google is holding back this part of Jelly Bean or there was a delivery mess up because it is listed in the change log but no one seems to have it..... Regardless of how they got JB.
