I got a verizon nexus today and shortly after I got it I got a notificationp of a update which was the 4.0.2 well I kept choosing install later because I had heard that some of the problems didnt start till after this update. Problem is now when I check for updates it says my phone is up to date but it is still operating on 4.0.1 and I have tried a factory reset but the 4.0.2 update willl not show up. Is that going to be a problem and should I return this phone for another one ..

I saw this trick the other day. Open the phone dialer and type in *#*#checkin#*#* or the numeric is *#*#2432546#*#* and then try the system updates again in the settings menu like you were before.
As I understand it, this pings the server and more or less forces the update to poll to your phone. Only if you don't have the latest version. This I'm not 100% sure on all the information about the checkin call, but its worth a try.

Devices with android 3.1 and up have a check in button within the system updates page which does the same thing. The checkin code is not needed anymore.

The new 2,4 update seems to be coming up. However I am not even able to see the update option in the status menu. Is this normal? I am running 2.3.3 build 4.

As with all android updates, the phone company releases the update first to generic versions and to carriers to add their own software (bloatware crap) so each carrier takes their time to release it when/if they want. ie: in Mexico we haven't even gotten the xLoud update from 2.3.3 but plenty others did and now some even got the 2.3.4. It's a waiting game where we can't use the dpad
TL;DR You have to wait till your carrier releases the update for you whenever they want.

You probably deleted the update center from your phone. Mine is gone too but since I've an unlocked bootloader, I don't mind.

God bless you stranger I have restored the option in my menu with titanium backup.
More often than not, I have this issue, but it's only when one software update is available. If I have multiple updates, I can hit the "Update x items" button and all of them go. When only one update is available, when I go into it, all I have is Open and Uninstall, rather than Update and Uninstall. I tried clearing Market data and no luck. I'm using version 3.4.4.
I have seen it to, the update usually shows up eventually though.

The app disappered back into the main list of apps installed, so basically it said it had an update available, and then went away. Nothing ever updated. Google's biggest issue with Android is the dang Market. Tons of bugs.

I've had this issue too but i've usually been able to update it by searching for the app in the market then pressing update. It doesn't work everytime though.

Yeah Google apps do that to me a lot. They show up under My Apps, but don't show that they need an update until I go into that application. Apple may be a bad company, but at least they have their application delivery system working correctly.
Go to apps
Scroll down to google framework
Clear data
Now go to location and services.
Check all 3 GPS and google services.
Accept google therms.
Now go to about and check for update.

I can confirm this. Followed the instructions and the JB 4.1.1 update showed up.

This worked for me too, but it crashed while updating in recovery. My phone is stock, and now when I try the trick again, I can't get the update...

Honestly I think the main thing is clearing the data and checking. People seem to be throwing in other steps that I didn't do, but who knows maybe its a different situation for others.
Plus we're going to start seeing a ton of threads with variations of this "trick".

well worked for my galaxy nexus 4.0.4, its now updating to 4.1 thx to op
This worked for me. I have been checking every five minutes for the last couple days, clearing Framework, restarting, using different networks, and as soon as a tried this I received the update. Another thing to note, I checked for the update right before I used this "trick" to make sure it wasn't just a coincidence and I was still receiving the dreaded "Phone up to date" or whatever. So for this to be a coincidence would be a pretty low probability.
Thanks OP.
Even if this didn't do anything, I got the update finally.

Worked beautifully! I now have Android 4.1.1.
One quick correction: Google Framework is Google Services Framework.
Also, until 13 July 11:28 P.M. Google will only permit you to install using WiFi.
I tried it worked then restored root with voodoo. I am forwarding this info to others. A lot do not know about this.
my other phone is Nokia maemo n900
I did your trick, it working for me. But when it installing I get this error ; E : signature verification failed
I only rooted en unlocked the bootloader..
Thanks
I had Google Now working on my galaxy nexus 4.1.2 just fine for a few months until a couple of days ago when i decided to upgrade to 4.2. Now the google voice search is still there and i tried re-installing it but Google Now is not there anymore, and there is no option in settings that mentions enabling/activating google now.
My phone was always rooted, and i thought it may have something to do with the fact that my bootloader was unlocked, so i relocked it
anyone know whats going on?
thanks

Look up Google search in the play store. Does it show as installed? If not, download and install.

The Google Now settings are hidden on the search screen, lower right hand corner. I had this happen when I turned off Google now on an old device I was messing with, and it turned off on my active devices also. For some reason OS updates have triggered this from time to time also.

Hello there.. I'm having trouble with this app since I rooted my phone and unlock the bootloader in android 4.1.1 yakjuxw, after that I couldn't connect anymore to this and line neither I can't play games online neither.. I can also use Chrome and enter any site, Facebook app works fine and the others common apps too. I though I could solve this problem by unrooting and locking the phone but I was the same.. After that I tried something else I changed my yakjuxw to yakju and update through 4.2.2 the phone was like new from factory, it also erased the cwm I installed but I still have the same problem.. I will appreciate any help, thanks for your attention..
I also reinstall the app several times from the play store and from the page, erase the data and cache but is the same..

The thing is that I haven't registered the account of whatsapp in my phone yet, that's what I'm trying to do, when I enter whatsapp it says "connecting.. After a few seconds says: impossible connect. Please verify that you are connected to Internet and try again.
Please reboot your phone if you keep having this problem of connection.

As soon as you can try to register your phone number below WI fi ... could be your service provider that blocks chat services (remote option I think), or mobile Internet apn are set incorrectly. Since the application does not crash the problem with the connection itself.
firewall or killer app can also cause problems.

I don't have any firewall or killer app installed.. I just wish to know if all those things that I did first didn't damage or modify some important file inside, is it possible? Even after update it could stay modified?

My concern is not only for whatsapp is also by an online game called arcane legends, before I do anything that I explained I could connect to the game even if my Internet was very slow but now I just can't join or download the patches which is very rare because I can download things through chrome. That's why I'm thinking that maybe some inside file is damage or modify, I'm getting desperate with this, I don't know what else to do..

It should not ... in extremis, if you think your mobile connection is properly configured and is not be another possibility download a stock yakju ROM from Google and re flash ... but first I would try under Wi-Fi if you download and run normally app .

When I changed the phone from yakjuxw to yakju I got the update by ota, isn't it a stock version?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
R: Whatsapp problem
when you have changed I guess you have a complete picture flashed yakju ... having the stock recovery you came the OTA update but are generally the same update partial. the rom you go to download from Google and the complete system is to completely rewrite the previous placing any anomalies. Keep in mind that everything will be deleted ... Read, if you have not too familiar, the guides:
