[Q] Google Music not over 3G - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

hey,
when i have the google music app from the stock JB which is like 4.3.606.400990 or like 4.3.5 then i cant stream music over my 3G but wifi works perfectly.
when i have google music from ICS like version 4.1 something it works fine over 3G, but the reason why i need the new version because i think it supports AVRCP or atleast it works with my car stereo. it drives me crazy cuz it worked for some reason why bigxie stock rom then i upgraded to CM10 and love the ROM but it doesnt work anymore.
and after restoring my bigxie nandroid it doesnt work anymore. im so confused.
any idea?

Okay guys I've found the problem.
Go to
settings/Wireless& Networks more.../Mobile networks/Access Point Names/
Then open your selected APN. In my case it's "Swisscom Services"
In there you'll find the entries Proxy and Port. Open them and delete the entries. Then hit the menu button and press save. After that it will work.

Same thing here
Hi,
I have exactly the same thing going on. I have the Music version 3.4.605.398337.
Streaming music works when connected to the wifi but not over 3g. Tethering my tablet through the Nexus and streaming there works... so it's not my provider (Swisscom in Switzerland) that's blocking anything there...
I have tried to reset the Music app and the Media Storage, clear the cache of both... no way I can make this work...
[EDIT]
I just updated to version 4.3.606.400990 (through Play web store, clicked install anyway) and still got the same problem...
[EDIT2]
Asked a friend who has the exact same Android version, worked for him but only after caching the whole song

actually, it works now. after i spend almost half a day. i didnt get the AVRCP support in my car, and i dont think ill ever get it back no idea how i made it work with bigxies firmware.
but you should try CM10 jellybro, it only works with this rom with the newest version on the google play store. well i had to clear all the cache and settings and after that it worked.
i saw the AOKP JB has AVRCP support from ICS implanted, but on that rom google music doesnt work, so i guess ill have to live with this for a while until somebody maybe implants it into CM10.

Well, me for my part have downloaded the stock Android JB 4.1.1 from Google and have flashed it, I didn't even root it and tried to launch a music file... guess what? Same error! (No further updates available).
This must be an problem on Google's side or something to do with my music.google.com account. I don't know but this really sucks.

I can stream fine over 3g. I'm on AT&T if that matters.

Doesn't really matter, no. I tried tethering through my phone with my tablet (ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T, ICS 4.0.3), and there it works. So the carrier isn't blocking anything.

Yes. I am sure. I get the following error: "Music Temporarily unavailable - Couldn't play the stream you requested."
I have tried all other possible configurations like low/high quality streaming etc...

Did you ever get it to work? I'm experiencing the exact same problem that you described. I use Swisscom in Switzerland as well, and it works fine over WiFi and used to work fine over 3g up until JellyBean.
Cheers,
Simon

well i use CM10 Jellybro and it works fine with it. If i use AOKP it doesnt work anymore.
i cant tell you why, but what kind of rom are you using?

This may not be the proper place for this, but I'm having the same problem and I'm using play music v4.3.615.481147 on stock, unrooted 2.3.3 (yea, I really get around to re-rooting...)
I've also tried settings regarding wifi, un/reauthorizing device, clear data, reinstall...no success, always the same error! Seems like a Google issue, and I'm surprised not to have seen more about this in other places... =\

Well guess what guys. I'm having the same problem.

Same Problem here.
My Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGS3)
Carrier: Swisscom (Schweiz)
SW: 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (AUT, CH Brandingfree)
When I donwload the Music on WiFi it's no problem to hear this. When im outside, no wifi is avaiable and i'm on 3g or H+ and i try to play a Song i get the same error. (Can't load stream)
Why? When I take a look in "Data Usage" then i can see, that Google Music has downloaded anythin.. but nothing works.
I tried many settings and versions of the app. Also i tried to reinstall etc. Also a Factory Reset of the Device. But.. nothing works for me.
When I make a hotspot and a Other Phone trys to download it works fine. But why not on 3G?
Any Ideas? I'm verry anoyed about that.

ya i sadly dont have a solution to this, the only thing is that google music isn't supported in switzerland, but it works on CM Roms (not on AOKP) cant explain why.

I don't think so, bacuase when I make a HotSpot on my 3G it works over the same Network. How would they block them?
Both devices are registred in Switzerland.

i know, doesnt make sense. lol thats why i started this thread.

Where can i make a Bugreport so that Google can fix the Problem?

Thanks for the info with CM good to know that it works at least on one ROM.
I'll have a look at it with the SlimROM team. Maybe we can find the problem.

that would be awesome.
the things i tried, when i wanted to get AOKP to work is changed dns settings and tried to edit the host file, but without any luck.

Well, technically, the main function is to search, voice search is an option, you can always type out your search.
Also, what's the point of installing anything that you know isn't stable? It's the fun of testing it, or getting a preview...
I'm using it on a leaked Samsung ICS ROM with very little issues. It's really cool... Can't wait to have a fully functional "now"!

2G can see website but in 3G can NOT access any internet, help!

this is driving me nuts now ...
everything was working fine, then i flashed a new ROM , for the first few minutes it works fine , and then it can't connect to any internet server while in status bar shows H icons (HSDPA connection) and also in system information it shows data connected.
first i thought it could be problem of my operator because such thing has happened before, so i went for sleep and the day next, still same, but i was able to use any internet applications with 2G connection (EDGE) , but not good with HSDPA.
then i asked some friends who uses same operator but they report everything was cool , therefore i begin to think it could be my end problem.
when i get back home , i tried reflash the same ROM again and even some other ROM, still can't use HSDPA connection.
i even flashed several different radios , still no good ...
so ...what the F is going on ? i really don't get it ...
could it be my phone's hardware problem ? because i accidentally droped it once about weeks ago , but after that it still works fine until yesterday which i didn't drop or water-wash or hit my phone ...
Who's your phone service provider? It seems like something is messed up with your APN settings. Do a Google search for "Provider 3G APN", for example "AT&T 3G APN"

i tried that
i even deleted them all and then restore from network with default settings
curiously , i reflashed some ROM tonight , some of them , HSDPA was working when the first time reboot into system with setup wizzard to gain restore information from google server , and able to get in google play or somewhere , but when i reboot it ....HSDPA dead again ...
Sorry mate, that isn't good enough for us to help. So, you're in Barcelona, Spain. International gsm "maguro". Tell us a few things.
Current rom ("some/same" rom doesnt cut it)
Current radio version (about phone > baseband version): should be XXLF1.
Currently installed apps that use internet access.
Troubleshoot: Return to stock by reading/using the procedure in this thread. We are yakju originally, should you care. If it happens on stock.. there are other alternatives, for example, use one of your friends' simcard on your phone, try to use umts then.
Is it even possible to select network type you want and force it only on HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE or GPRS?
I begin to feel it could be operator's problem as I have heard some, at least 2 friends of my friends have same problem in the same region as me, but my friend in the other side of country doesn't have this problem, so I will see how it will work tomorrow, and thanks to you all

I stand (semi) corrected. XXFL1 is the latest official Jelly Bean update. Seems like UILE1 was "built" for ICS. Doesn't matter though, for all intents and purposes what I was trying to achieve was for you to reflash a radio in case you had a faulty one installed.

I think it doesn't matter it is made for Europe or Asia or Africa or whatever, only thing have to identify is it is for GSM or CDMA, because besides CDMA, other operators in the whole world uses same frequency and protocol, basically.

[Q] SlimBean 3.0.0, T989D: Incompatible app from Google Play

Hello all!
I have a T989D (Koodo) running the latest SlimBean rom v3.0.0. There is one game from the Play Store, Monopoly, that constantly refuses to install saying it's not compatible. It installs fine on CM10 stable and also on AOKP JB Milestone 1, both on the very same phone. But when running SlimBean, it just won't install. In fact, it doesn't even show if you do a Play Store search, you have to browse to it through your purchased app list, and then you're given the "This application isn't compatible with your device" nonsense. One obvious answer would likely be "Just use CM10 or AOKP", but I really prefer SlimBean. It's level of customization is astonishing, and I like that.
I have compared the build.prop files from the 3 ROMs mentioned, and have done 1 correction in the file under SlimBean, but it hasn't changed a thing (yes, I have cleared Play Store data and cache). Needless to say, I have rebooted a million times too, as well as reinstalling from scratch about 6-8 times.
Every other app installs fine, just this one. Of course, manually installing the APK works, and the game runs fine, but then I lose the updates that come through Google Play. And, you know, installing the "official" way just feels better...
Anyone experiencing the same issue?
Thanx in advance!
Same problem with the t989 (hercules). Electronic Arts' Monopoly cannot be found on the Play Store and I cannot install my APK that I backed up with ROM ToolBox. Can anyone help?
I'm running Slim Bean V3 with the AIO Inverted Package. Using TWRP v2.3.1.1.
Thanks!
Just for kicks, I re-did it all and installed CM10 stable. The Google Play Store can find the Monopoly game and it installs fine. Wipe all, install AOKP JB Milestone 1. Same thing, Play Store can find and install the game without problems. Wipe all, install SlimBean v3.0.0. Play Store laughs at me for even mentioning Monopoly.
Now, I also have a Nexus S and a Galaxy Nexus. Why not have some fun...
For some strange, unknown reason, Crespo and Maguro WILL install Monopoly under SlimBean v3.0.0 (using the same Google account). So it appears the problem is limited to the T-989D only...in my case at least.
Advice, anyone?
Thanx!
You think thats weird....If I have a Gingerbread rom on my phone I can go into the marketplace and search for bejeweled 2(which I purchased) and download it no problem......If ICS or JB is installed it doesnt even show up in a search.....I dont get it
the problem is in you dpi, follow the process in slimbean UI setting
set to default dpi (240), reboot, clear market cache, back, then select the dpi you want "slimbean defalt 180 dpi"
I haven't tried Gingerbread on either my Crespo or Hercules since I got them both after ICS was released. Might be worth the try though. But then again, on the Hercules, AOKP and CM10 both allow me to install Monopoly in Jelly Bean, just not when using SlimBean.
On a more positive note, the patch issued for the greyed out notification toggle switch (LED flashlight) works flawlessly and is much appreciated!
Thanx!

This has been done each and every time I retried an installation from scratch (full wipe). The procedure itself works flawlessly, it's a simple process (to change the DPI). But, still no dice. Every other app I have bought installs fine, but this one.
Thanx anyway!
+1 on this issue. It seems to be apps at random.

I just flashed CM10 Stable and the Original signed Gapps (gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip) and still have the same issues.
Original Monopoly, Qik, and other apps cannot be found in the Play Store and cannot be restored from backup due to incompatibility issues. Apparently is not gapps related and based on this fact it appears to be a JB issue.

That's really strange... In my case, only Monopoly refuses to cooperate. Not that I would want other apps to misbehave, but still... We seem to be in the dark at different levels regarding this issue. Then again, CM10 worked in my case.
Still searching for answers...
Just to knock DPI out of possible causes completely, try the multi DPI patched store:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31656210
Make sure you clear data for the store before flashing.
DPI changes is the only thing that has caused incompatibility problems. Another symptom is a incorrect count for installed apps in "my apps" in the play store.

Will re-try this again tonight when I get home. I had tried this procedure and it did not work, but I have nothing else to try anyway. I won't leave this friggin' phone alone until it does what I want, hehe.
Thanx!
Well, I could not believe this, but it happened. After seeing that once again, it did not work, I decided to laugh a bit and reinstalled the stock Koodo image. Back on 4.0.4 ICS from Koodo for T989D.
And now, guess what?????
Yep, yep & yep!!!! It won't install!!!!!!!!
Now I know for SURE it's not SlimBean's fault, something else is to blame here. A friggin' Monopoly game that installs just fine on Nexus S, but for some obscure reason refuses to install on a more powerful phone? Well, f* me!
Of course, sideloading the APK worked from the start, and worked good too! I just wanted to go at it the official way, but it appears EA or Google think otherwise.
Sideloading it is for this game! I'm done searching for the cause seeing it won't even install on stock.
Thanx to all who offered some help!
i was having the same problem installing some games but changing the dpi to 240 helped me.....:good:

LTE EHRPD Internet, then dial *#*#4636#*#* and , go to preferred network, and chooce lte/gsm/cdma

Thanks for your contribution! It's good to see more ROMs popping up. Especially MIUI.
Also, it looks like it has all the AOSP based issues. But I noticed you didn't mention anything about the camera. Does auto-focus work on this ROM?

Looks really nice!! Great work! I'll check it out tonight....:good:
ok reciving calls is working perfectly, with data wiped. i think its the gapps i linked that messup the phone app.
Thanks for this! Waiting for gps fix and media scanner fix before making it my daily driver.

Right after it boots. Going to try it without the gapps. See what happens

Make sure you wipe everything, flash the ROM and then boot into it and do the miui setup, reboot into recovery and flash gapps and do the Google setup.

Data never connected for me. I did as the op said multiple times. Good rom though.
Edit: Got data working but couldn't get lte. Of course the call bug. And I also got the settings bug in the beginning. Besides that this baby runs smooth! Great work!!

Going to flash this first chance I get an working on hooking up the kernel on AOKP for us... Itching like crazy to try thus love some miui
ROM works pretty good for me other than a few things that maybe are normal for miui but I'm not aware of because of my first time using it. I realized just now that the browser wouldn't go into landscape mode while typing this. Also I can't seem to get the camera to focus consistently. It seems like it works every once in a while but it could have just been working on first use due to resetting a couple of times. I didn't pay close enough attention. Also, not an issue but more of a question, how do I enable root access? Faster GPS requires root but I don't know how to enable it. Thanks for the ROM and any info. Loving it so far!
Edit... I found the root access.
The system ui error , is related to the gapps i linked, i found better ones for miui to be more specific, http://en.miui.com/thread-2840-1-1.html, flash there instead.
Also i found a mayor bug sadly this will make this rom pretty useless for now, when you get data to work, everytime you receive a phone call , phonewill crash and you wont be able to pick up the call. il leave the rom online for who ever whants to try it, but this bug just ruins everything, and i did not notice it untill today, few hours after relesing it.
Great to see you developing here Magic! I was just about to download when I read your last comment. Dang it I was stoked! Oh well, I'll wait because I know you will figure it out... thanks for taking on this ROM and we appreciate what you are doing! If I can help in any way let me know!:good:

sure will, iv probably figured out why that bug is happening, you see when you are in 3g, sprint cant have voice+data(on 3g only, lte does allow this) on when you recive a call, so the modem is supposed to turn of data and recive the call, but instead what miui does is ignore that and leave it on, thats why phone is crashing mostlikely, il have to talk with synergy or shellnit2 so they can help me out.
so yea i worked on miui today, and still cant get ril to works properly, even though iv implemented most of the smali from our cm10.1 telephony-common.jar to miuis's one. im really running out of ideas, tomorrow il probably try and decompile the phone apk see what i can do there. as always stay tunned.

[RESOLVED] [Q] After installing CM 10.2 nightly, 4G not available

Hey folks,
I've been searching for answer to this problem for a while and haven't been able to find a thread that answers my questions. If there is one that I couldn't find, I'd appreciate a link.
I installed CM 10.2 on my D710. After a bunch of issues with it (couldn't get CWM to run, had to use AGAT to install CM, which then brought along a version of CWM that does work), I finally got everything up and running, but 4G isn't available (3G works fine, if a bit slower than I remember, but I've not run any speed tests). I've gone to the #*#*4636*#*# menu and tried every preferred network type – it defaults to WCDMA Preferred, which, if I understand correctly, means 3G only, but even when I set it to LTE Only, for example, there's still no 4G. I've also flashed pretty much every JB modem (and some ICS ones too) I could find (thanks rwilco12!); with some, I couldn't get 3G or voice to work, but even with those that do, 4G just isn't there. No mention anywhere in the system settings menus, nothing.
My best guess at this point is that it's an APN issue, but that's just based on what I've read elsewhere. I also haven't been able to find instructions on how to modify APNs on this device, or what the APN settings really do.
Any help on this would be much appreciated – this is my first time posting, but I've benefitted greatly from the forums in the past. Hope someone here can help me out.
4G Wimax was removed from the source code in 4.3 and up (KitKat has no Wimax as well). CM10.2 is Android 4.3, that means no 4G for us unless you are using 4.2.2 (CM10.1) and below. And no there is no way around it. Google did this because no Wimax device will ever have official 4.3 so they decided to trim down the code.

Wow. So is my best bet just downgrading to 10.1? Or is there some way to put Wimax support back in?

No, no way around it. The source code is gone. Unless you know somebody who works for Google on Android and happens to have the missing source code, don't count on it. Yeah CM10.1 still has 4G Wimax.
Well okay then. Thanks for the help! Guess 10.1 it is, then.
Okay, I installed the 10.1 ROM found here. The mobile data settings now include 4G – but it still doesn't work. Modem is FL24. Any ideas for what to try next?

What do you mean by doesn't work? Doesn't turn on? Doesn't connect? Gives you an error? My suggestion is to Odin a stock ROM and make sure nothing is messed up hardware wise.
I'm not sure how to tell whether or not it turns on, but even once I enable it in the settings, I don't see a 4G icon in the status bar, either searching or connecting. It worked fine back on stock Android; I can certainly try to go back to that (although I haven't been able to find a ZIP, only .exe and I'm on Mac), but if I can stick with CM, I'd prefer to...

Go into System Settings, click on the 4G (may be under Mobile Data, it's been awhile since I've been on AOSP) and it should have a screen similar to this (screenshot is TouchWiz, but you get the point) this is how you'll be able to tell if it's turning on/scanning/connecting.
OK, that's what I thought. So I can turn it on, but no networks show up. It says Scanning, but never finds anything. I'm in downtown SF, so I think it's pretty unlikely that's the issue.
Have you had wimax before? On a touchwiz or AOSP ROM?
The wimax rollout was halfassed at best, multiple major markets never saw it cause LTE rolled out soon after.

Welp, turns out I was wrong about that. 4G worked when I took it elsewhere in the city. Sorry for the confusion there; looks like this is resolved. I appreciate all of y'all's help!
