Okay so my daughter grabbed my phone and threw it in the toilet. I had an Otter Box on it and it boots up fine and goes to sense. It's rooted. The problem is when it loads up sense it automatically loads up Car Home. I can close that and everything seems to work fine. Whem I power down the device I click "Power Down" and it shuts off and automatically reboots. I cant get it to just power down and stay off. Can somebody please help me?

Yikes thats no good. I would immediately take the battery out. Put the phone in a ziploc bag with dry white rice. Leave it in there for a day or so, I would say. The rice will absorb some moisture. You want to get it dried out as much sa possible before you try powering it on again. You'r sd card might have been damaged too. If the phone still doesn't work right after thoroughly drying it out, you may be SOL. The water damage indicators are now activated, and the warranty will be voided. If you have insurance, it will cost you a hundred bucks, for the deductible.
The most important thing now is to stop trying to power it on until the phone is dried out. Things will short out.

Alright well I dont have rice. And my girlfriend has the car. I will try to go to the sprint store and see what I can do about replacing it. I need my EVO!! Oh and the cameras dont work now either. FML. I just got this phone about 3 weeks ago.

Yea, i hear ya. Who wants to keep their evo in a bag of rice overnight?! Just a warning though. There is a water damage indicator strip on the phone and the battery. That changes color when it gets wet, and thus that voids the warranty. I wouldn't expect Sprint to replace it for you, unless you have insurance, but then it'll cost a 100 dollar deductible. Good luck man, hopefully your sprint store has some cool employees.

and if you take it in rooted, they may not honor the warr, as well as the water indicator. eeek. seriously, try the rice trick. ive saved several of my daughters phones that way (I also dont buy her nice phones anymore. )
Yeah, Sprint will still look at it to determine if water damage was indeed the result of the phone acting up, even if the water markers show water contact. IF you can find rice, try that. If not, let it dry and / or take it in and hope for the best. Sorry to hear about it.
Number one rule when your phone gets wet: DO NOT TRY TO TURN IT ON!!! There is obviously water inside the phone. If you try to turn it on when its still wet, you will fry the boards. You needed to COMPLETELY dry the phone for at least 2 days, if not more, then try it.
Unfortunately since you tried to turn it on, you probably fried something on the board. Unless you have insurance, sprint wont fix a water damaged phone. And yes, they can tell it was water damaged.
Well It was on when she dropped it in the toilet So that alone probably fried it... so far everything has worked on it except the cameras and the fact that it reboots rather than shutting down.. Im not sure if I have insurance or not I have to check. But I dont want this phone if I can't use one of it's key features, It's camera's. I also don't want a phone that wont turn off. How much would it cost me to just buy another one out rite from the store without a contract, Because I already have a contract.
This really sucks because I just bought the thing like I said three weeks ago. And now it's ruined. Anyways I just have to accept it hang my head. I found out that I have to file a claim affidavit and include a copy of my ID and fax it to "phoneclaim". What a bunch of B.S. I dont see why they make you go through so much **** just to use a service that YOU pay for. It's so ridiculous. FML

Yea, water damage sucks man. Not a lot you can do. You may find a reasonably priced Evo in your area on craigslist perhaps.

yea, they are actually cheap, if you can be patient. I got a used one little less than a month ago (got it used instead of new for a very specific reason), paid 225 for it. if you can wait 'til the end of the month, lots of people that need cash for rent will be getting rid of them. (just be carefull about ESN, of course)

I had to do the same thing. It took me a week and a half to get a replacement for a line on my account.

My wife dropped my galaxy nexus in a bucket of water. So I pulled out the battery and they both sat for about 20 minutes separate, then I powered it back and it gives the usual screen of "I just got dunked!" and isn't working correctly.
Apparently, Verizon never added insurance to my phone when I signed up for it when I got it.
Thoughts on what to do???
How long ago did you buy the phone because you still might have time to buy a warrenty.. put your phone in rice for 24 hours.. not sure if it should be cooked or not so Google it... I'm sorry for your lose and everyone here at XDA forums wish you the best of luck.. the galaxy nexus is a fighter!
Remove the battery and store the phone in a container with lots of rice for a few days. It is a long shot but I have saved a few devices in this manner. The damage may already be done since you tried to power it on.
Something else to do is rinse the phone thoroughly with distilled water before putting it in the rice. This may get rid of any residue left over from the water in the bucket.
Claim on the house insurance? Ive never made a claim before but thats what its there for.
You should put your phone in a convection oven at 50-60 degrees centigrade for like 24 hours.
The battery should NOT be put in there!
One should never try to power it back on after 20 minutes.
This won't help you now, but as others said, after dropping into water DO NOT turn the phone on without letting it sit in a bag of rice for two days MINIMUM>

It's not that difficult to get a new one. You can usually find suitable replacements in bars or on dating sites, especially if you've got money. Look for a model that doesn't drop your calls (in water).

Wait a few days.. and probably file a lost claim though you might have to file a police report for that.

As far as the unlocked rooted thing, i don't think it matters at this point. If you are getting it replaced anyway, just totally kill it so it doesn't turn on. who's to know.
Seriously, put the phone in a ziplock bag with UNCOOKED rice for at LEAST 24 hours.
It will absorb all of the moisture out of the phone. Don't be stupid and try to turn it on or plug it in before 24 hours or you risk frying it.
The battery will most likely be fully depleted also. But take it slow. The phone will also still be a little "wonky" even after a few days.
Be careful with the rice too. I usually fill the bag up half way and lay it on a counter... gently placing the phone on top. Last thing you want is rice dust lodged in your buttons (ie Don't shake the bag)
I've done this a few times. Once in the toilet (before use), my kid threw my phone in the tub while I was showering, and my gf dropped her in a puddle.
All were recovered fully.
You have to watch out for water damage with the stickers unless you have full coverage. Theft and loss are two different things. I don't know if you'd need a police report if you just "lost" it. Maybe you were on a Ski Lift and fumbled it into the woods below. Perhaps since we don't have an official 3-Pin Car Holder, the phone slid and fell out the window. I don't think any of those would require a police report.
The window excuse gives you reason to stress test the screen with your car.
Rice thing worked for my wife once on her env3...second time she had it in the washing machine and it left lines on the screen...so rice didnt work on that occasion...luckily when youre best friends with a verizon store manager they can make your life much easier.
You do know that making a claim on your insurance at this point is basically just petty theft?
Another thing to know is to dunk in rubbing alcohol before you let it dry out. The alcohol will actually displace any water still left in the phone (as much as possible) and then you can put it in rice.
When you place the phone in rice, I wouldn't seal the container unless you live in swampy super humid environment. Sealing it traps moisture and ensures the only place the water can go is the rice. That's not the objective. The goal is to draw moisture out of the phone. It doesn't matter if it goes into the air or the rice.
The alcohol option makes since as it evaporates more quickly. But I'd only do that immediately after it happened like the poster stated.
Lastly, swap it out at any time. They don't care because ultimately it will end up in a he said she said ordeal. They will just end up insuring it any how. I've actually had a repair facility add insurance to my account so they can work on my device. The key is being in that window that you can purchase it.

i once washed my ipod in the washer. it came out, was still on, i turned it off and kept it in rice for 2 days. then it wouldnt power on. i left it in the toaster oven on 165 for a couple of days. still no go and pc doesnt even detect a usb device. after 2 weeks i thought id turn it on.. and it still doesnt. but before i threw it out, i decided to connect it to the usb, and bam! red charging battery. it works perfectly fine now.
Well, apparently my insurance didn't go through yet and my claim didn't work. Took advice from a friend who works at verizon and I hope I can still do the claim again.
My phone is sitting in rice.. hoping it works.
A little late, but I saw an article on life hacker today about a product designed especially for drying wet portable electronics. Fairly reasonable price swell.

about 2 days ago my phone fell from a table flat into the floor, it now has a dead pixel and a vertical blue line going across the screen, the blue line does not show up on black background but when it displays other colors it is very prominent. I've searched the forums and while I feel confident I can replace the screen myself I wanna know if I have any "cheaper" or price comparable options from the sprint/manufacturer/warranty side before I attempt a DIY. my phone as it happens is only about 1 month old but has been rooted and flashed at least twice.
so the question is: what are my options?
Take it in to the Sprint Store. I don't remember pricing but while Sprint strongly recommends do not root your phone, it's not a policy they enforce. Might cost you $35, if you have TEP it might cost you nothing.
Just take it in and say it fell off the table and show them, then ask how much.... worth a try a least.
There's another thread here with some repair options, you can check them out too.
Edit: Here it is.
If you tell them it fell off the table they will charge you $100 for a replacement if you have insurance or tell you you have to buy a new phone if you don't. You would need a SUPER friendly tech to offer to fix it....which the odds are severely against you.

If Sprint doesn't fix it for you, try checking the connection between the screen and the phone.
The bottom of my phone's display looked corrupted and I fixed it by reinserting the ribbon cable connecting to the screen. I guess it somehow loosened on its own.

My screen went completely dead today (and has stayed that way) at some unknown specific point but following a series of pretty hard-hitting drops of late. I quickly noted that the sound was still functioning when I tried to restart what I initially thought was a phone that had simply powered itself down. Felt like I was deducing in the right direction when I observed that the LED indicator appeared to be non-functional as well. Anyhow, cutting to the chase, had come up with power supply problem to the top-half of the phone as my leading theory before I headed over here to look for some answers/help and was directed to this thread as my very first hit and with your post at least confirming the possibility/likelihood I've got a minor problem, not the potentially huge, expensive one I'd feared.
So, thanks again, but thought I'd hit you up to see if there's any quickie web page you can direct me to which'll show me how to get at that connector. I've no doubt I'll be able to find drawings/instructions on my own, if necessary, but since I'm full newbie to this site and very much an average, amateur tinkerer (as opposed to legit tech) it seems worth asking you and the group for direction on my next step.

There are tons of great vids on how to take the phone apart... google it and watch the video.... its really pretty simple... if you know how to take the phone apart it will be very obvious as to the ribon which may have become disconnected
Follow up/Resolution
Just wanted to close the issue in case anyone should run across this thread in the future and my experience can help them find a solution.
Was actually looking forward to taking my phone apart and giving a fix a try but my lazy/practical side decided to pop into my local Sprint store just to see if there was any chance I could get them to take a look without charging me for anything. Surprisingly, the rep I spoke with took the phone to a tech on the spot and the tech dropped what he was doing to open it up and take a look. Ten minutes later the tech handed me my fully-functioning phone and said the ribbon had been torn completely in half! He said this situation was not uncommon after a year-and-a-half of sliding the keyboard open and closed, again and again. No charge, didn't even write up a ticket as far as I know. Probably got lucky in going into the store about an hour before close on a Thursday night. I'm CERTAIN (based on previous Sprint experience) I wouldn't have received that sort of service if I'd happened in at a busier time.
But worth noting that the ribbon had ripped completely through without any particular drop or other incident and with no prior intermittent performance or any indication something was about to go seriously wrong.
Okay, so I dropped my phone in a puddle. Did the whole rice thing and whatnot to no avail. The phone isn't COMPLETELY fried, but unusable. It turns on, but only for about 60 seconds at a time before it reboots. The power button is spazzing out and constantly presses so the screen goes off and on. I can use the phone for a minute if i hold the power button and then press the back button when the long press menu comes up.
Enough of that, time for solutions.
I'm not eligible for an upgrade until August in which I was hoping for the GS3 to be released on Sprint by then. I was hoping to maybe buy a bad ESN Galaxy Nexus or even just another Epic off EBay/Craigslist. Would I be able to use my Epic's clean ESN for the Nexus? I'm on a really tight budget so full price is completely out of the question. Any and all help is greatly appreciated guys!
Is it rooted? Better odin back to fc09 if it is and bring it to sprint to see if they'll replace it. I had the same issue with the buttons going crazy and not working and they gave me a new one.

ESNs are tied to each phone, and cannot legally be swapped AFAIK
Could try taking apart and seeing if a cleaning will help, if you are going to write the phone off anyways.
Do you have TEP? Can try to ODIN the latest OTA, and if it fails see if a shop will replace it, but they may find a water detector tripped
IMO, best best is an Epic off Ebay or Craig's list with a clean ESN

elite developer adam (sorry forgot the last name or so), talks about how alcohol will absorb the moistur or water rather quickly, but if the board got wet, you have a max of 15 seconds before the board becomes warped. meaning, the phone will be totally non-functional. as far as the esn is concerned, sorry, thats a no go.

If this was true, then the rice fix would never work, would it?
I have seen several people say they got their phone wet, and use the few days in rice trick to get it back, wouldn't that mean the board was wet for longer than 15 seconds?

Really all depends on how long it was in the water and how long it took you to get it into the rice... if you can get it out of the water in 10 secs or less you probably have a little time to get it into the rice... not like the water is just gonna pour in it as soon as it hits the water... if you get it straight out you most likely won't have very much water inside it and be able to still dry it out...
My phone went for a swim with me last summer let it set for about 3 days then turned it on and everything worked just fine so let it set somewhere where its hot so it dries your phone and yeah I was one of those idiots that tried turning my phone on several times during that day I didn't stick in rice or any thing like just let it naturally dry out

I tried it out by taking the battery cover off, leaving it in rice for a day and a half, etc. I thought it was totally fine, because it powered up Monday around 7am, and it was fine. Well, it went through some boot loop stuff, but then I went to CWM recovery, reset phone from there, and it was good.
Then, around 4:30pm, after I had it plugged in charging for about 40 min, don't know if that's significant because I had charged it earlier the same day w/o problems.
Anyways, around 4:30pm, I went to silence my phone, and it just shut off. And wouldn't restart. Battery Pulls, nothing. Won't even charge.

Well first question is.
Is your contract nearly up and would be be planning to get a new phone???
I think personally, u should go on eBay and just buy another Android Phone.(Nexus, Another Dinc, Etc)
Or just get the Dinc 4G LTE.
Trust me it's not worth fixing a water damaged device. The problem always returns in the future.
You may have damaged it, by turning it on and also charging it, while there was still water inside. You should have let it sit in rice for at least 3 days, preferably 5, before even attempting to turn it back on. But that is the past, and you can't go back (now you know for the future).
It might be worth trying to take it as apart as you can (maybe opening it if you can easily do it, if not just battery and cover) and puting it back in rice for a few days and then trying again. If something was damaged, it probably would be impossible or not worth it to repair.
You have to decide if you wanna pay the $100 to replace. $100 for a new, working phone is not that expensive. That way you got something to play the occasional game on, let your kids play with it, use it as an mp3 player or whatever, and even have a backup phone. If I were you I would replace it for the $100 (if i had the $100 to spare!) because it's always good to have a backup phone.

ugh. yeah, $100 in the end is not too too much... but i just spend $250 on the galaxy s III, but i don't know if spending $100 on my old phone is worth it.
i figure that it's kaput anyways, so there's no harm in removing the "void" sticker, right?

hmm dude i wouldn't expect to find much corrosion in there it's not like it's been waterlogged for weeks. What's more likely is some chip or circuit fried, which would either be unfixable or hard to replace.
