Yes.

Also Hashcode's phone UI doesn't allow for rotation of the home screen unless you use an alternate launcher, which I didn't want to do. Jandy Cane has it built n, which is nice

[Q] Rotate homescreen?

I thought the 4.1.2 update was supposed to give the ability to rotate the homescreen?
I have 4.2 and I can't rotate it 90 degrees or 180.

Afaik, rotating the stock homescreen is a feature offered by custom ROMs only.
I believe this only applies to it running on the nexus 7. There is an ultimate rotation control app you can buy to do it with the stock launcher or you can use nova launcher to do it on the gnex.
Well the functionality has always been there but they won't ever activate it on a phone, as it makes no sense whatsoever. the update did however activate it on the nexus 7.
Edit
build.prop
And add this line at the bottom.
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
And just restart your phone.

This doesn't work on stock 4.2 anymore.

So your picture isn't taken from the top of Settings. Is the only thing above that the WiFi stuff? Twa's has a setting for interface as seen below. When you click it, you get to the second pic.

Wat does Tablet UI mean?

what does 'tablet UI' mean?

Tablet UI refers to Tablet User Interface, before JB 4.2 the UI for tablets did not have a notification status bar area on top, everything was at the bottom of the screen, NAV keys to the left and notification area to the right, Google decided to get rid of it with the release of JB 4.2 but some people prefer the Tablet UI over the Phablet UI which is the one we have now.
Hope it helps..

Tablet UI was never meant for phones hence "Tablet UI" term, Google is your friend, just Google Tablet UI and have a good read, you can also select images and have an idea what it looks like.

FYI, I currently am using SPB Shell, which has a table mode/UI, which I like, since it virtually doubles the amount of Application Icons on the screen. To change to table mode you (also shown in www.feelc.org/SPB3DShellTabletMode.pps) ...
1. Load SPB 3D Shell ... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spb.shell3d
2. Touch "Center screen button", which is at the bottom center of the screen
3. Touch the settings button on the screen that looks like a gear and is at the bottom left of the screen.
4. Select Experimental Settings
5. Change Interface Mode from Smart Phone to Table mode
Here's a video of SPB Sheel that may prove helpful ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxDc_Vz1SC0
I've tried a number of launchers over the years and currently this is my favorite. I started using it with my Note I717 with CM Rom and now it's running on my 980.
I sincerely hope this helps.

thanks. i think i understand now. a tablet ui basically is a ui for tablets but can be used on a phone to give it more options and a tablet like feel.
u said that u got shell 3d. dont u think some items in the ui may be too small to see even on a 980?

Tablet UI

Yes, I know it's been brought up quite a bit...
This is really bugging me. I had the original Kindle Fire and put ICS on it and loved it. The Honeycomb-style user interface rocks. I bought a Nexus 7 thinking that I'd be able to put it into that mode with KitKat (the point of owning the Nexus # is to have the latest and greatest, right?), but have found myself unable to do so.
Is there any way possible to enable this on 4.4? I'm running into a gap on this discussion; most stopped talking about it about a month ago it seems. AOKP? Do I have to copy and paste the tablet UI code from 4.2 into 4.4?
This is Android. ANYTHING is possible. I know it has the potential to be done.

I was under the impression that google removed the tablet UI from kitkat altogether.
I thought I wasn't going to like the phablet UI but I got used to it, and now it just makes sense to me on a tablet this size. I say give it a chance, you might grow to like it.
I hate it, i'm forever catching the navbar when typing in landscape or passing the device to a friend because of thin bezel, it'd better located on it's side in the same portrait position next to the shortcuts & apps drawer button.

I do agree with this. When in landscape it is in the most inconvenient place possible. I would love a way to force it to remain on the right side but I haven't been able to find a solution other than setting the whole tablet into phone UI mode which then messes with the notifications shade.
If you're only problem is the nav bar, try GMD auto hide soft keys. It works great.

I tried that, not really what I'm looking for. I don't want something that overlays the navbar and hides it when not in use, I want a permanent navbar that just stays on the right side of the screen. With GMD even if I turn auto hide off, it will still hide it when I rotate the screen, and when I swipe to bring it up it always covers part of my dock icons.
Have you tried gravity box xposed module? It gives you the ability to run pie. Or if that's not your thing in navigation bar tweaks it has an always on the bottom feature. It shouldn't be too difficult to make it always on the "short side".Why not ask the Developer in his thread ?

I've used the pie before on my gnex and it was OK. I might give it a shot. Android is starting to feel quite dumbed down lately...

Yep, I use GB on all my devices. I use PIE + expanded desktop when I want to game in full screen. The always on bottom tweak isn't what I'm looking for either. I want it to remain on the right in landscape. I appreciate the input though.

No probs. The part about keeping the navigation on the "short side". I meant on the right (Short Side). It`s worth asking the developer surely
CM10+ and PA had the tablet UI I though and you could pit it on the right hand side. I'm not sure if this applies with the newest KitKat builds though.

newsboard/flipboard can it be removed ?

So the left most screen is this news thingy that is similar to flipboard; also when i flip from screen to screen they are no longer circular (like the note 2 - what I mean is when i get to window n; it doesn't then go to window 1) can i make it circular (even if I can't remove the flipboard) ?

To disable Flipboard Briefing, long press on your home screen to bring up the home screen settings. Uncheck the box for Flipboard Briefing. That will get rid of it.
Ok missed that option; it works like a charm (hope they add it to the tablet); still can't do the circular thing which I like but not end of world.
Endless scroll is what you're looking for. I don't think it can be done on the stock launcher. It'd annoying, I agree.
note 2 had it; also on the note 2 icons look nicer; less blocky and tend to be dark with white letters instead of white with dark letters.

Unless there's something specific you like about Touch Whiz, have you considered installing a custom launcher? You can change the icons, the scrolling, and a ton of other things. I'm running Nova and love it.
yea i thought about switching to nova; not quite ready to go that far yet but maybe eventually.

It's extremely quick and easy. It's something you could install, try, and if you don't like it you can go straight back to Touch Whiz. Your Touch Whiz home screens will be exactly as left them.
Nova's actually really nice. I just installed it and got it running on my SGS3, and it's given me no problems at all. Unlike most people, I don't mind TW. My phone is rooted and I'm running a TW custom ROM that just removes a bunch of crapware. But Nova has sort of breathed new life in to my phone. When I do get a new Note or Nexus 6, I'll probably go right back to Nova. I even paid the $4 for the extra features.
I have one question though. When Nova is running, does TW stop running and release memory? Or does Nova just run on top of TW, and use up more memory?
