Its because a.r.s.e is slang for a$$ which is a banned word or at least so I've been told

In my opinion, even if XDA considers it offensive, there SHOULD be a rule that says that if these set of words are used with other alphabets to form a totally different word that filters out, it would be allowed to be used.

Well, I banged my head against the wall a whole day because of this when trying to do some Android mod. The code contained this:
Code:
Lcom/android/systemui/statusbar/DateView;->setText(Ljava/lang/Ch****quence;)V
And ofcourse, Ch.a.r.S.equence text got screwed and I couldn't figured why it wouldn't compile...
Is it too hard to add spaces before and after a word when adding it to the censor list, so it would not filter it when part of another word?...
Why can't the forum follow others and have a button that just turns on or off the filter all together?
I understand that the point is not to use language like that, however it would stop situations like this.

I have a personal policy that forbids that. I never take a phone into a restroom. I like to believe that noone I call or who would call me would take a phone into a restroom either.
Same as Godefroi. I wouldn't use any phone while using a toilet. I've always been grossed out by the people chatting away on their cell while relieving themselves at the urinals in malls and movie theatres. But with this phone I'd be paranoid of it falling into the water. If it somehow survived I doubt I'd ever feel comfortable holding it to my head if the waters were murky so to speak.
As for the actual original purpose of the thread... no. I might someday but haven't yet. In part because I forget my password for the forum around 97% of the time.
I don't really post here on my TP2. As great as the device is the Edge speeds just aren't fast enough for me to click on multiple links.

Gosh, what sort of a topic have we unleashed here?
Favourite is spelt wrong on auto correct, it shows favorite. Which is very wrong =]
Sent from my 7 Mozart T8698 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I think i can answer that question
There exists "British English" and the "American English". Microsoft i would think preferred the American version, even when they both mean the same. You may wonder, why not both "Favourite" and "favorite" in the dictionary, due the usage of it depends from where you come from.
"'Favourite' and 'favorite' both mean the same. While the former (favourite) is used in British English, the latter (favorite) is American English."

It was a joke about how Brits consider Americans crass and uneducated for having the audacity to spell "favorite" and "color" without a 'u'.
But then, we don't (as a rule) use "spelt", either. Here the more common usage would be "spelled".

I believe that's to do with regular/irregular past participle In British English, either regular or irregular is perfectly acceptable; whilst in American English regular (spelled) is normally the accepted.
Anyhow, I do believe this topic is in jest (at least I hope so!).

Extra security against spammers, I guess.
Although I can't remember entering a single captcha yet *happy*
Sent fro... wait, I didn't send this.
The captcha is required due to spammers who register manually, then try to post spam to XDA using that new account.
Recaptcha, which is the one we use, is one of the more readable and user friendly captchas, offering an audio equivalent too.
This captcha implemetation simply doesn't work
I tried to post a response to a different thread earlier and tried 5 captchas before I was reasonably sure I was reading one correctly. It took some time to compose the post and, low and behold the captcha somehow changed during that time and I needed to type in a new one. I made the mistake of hitting the preview button and the damn system wanted yet another captcha. I finally gave up because it simply wasn't worth the trouble. Why not simply use one captcha on log in?
The captcha system as implemented may be preventing spam but it is also doing a very good job of discouraging the use of this forum for its intended purpose.

That explains why captcha does "work ok for the vast majority of users." They don't even see it after a few posts. If it were implemented for everyone the same way it is for new users this thread would be dozens of pages long.
Glad that I'll soon be seeing the end of it.

We get 1500 new users signing up per day. Sorry, I forgot to type the word "new" in that sentence as I was thinking it. (Unfortunately) pattern recognition software is getting better and simple captchas are readable by the spambots. The current system is not necessarily ideal, but it does force real people to do their spam instead of bots, keeping it to a level where we can see it and report it before it becomes a flood.
I can only wish that a bigger percentage of those new users read this guide. And that they actually did the things proposed in it.

While I disagree with the person calling you names, which is totally uncalled for, there was no need for your "English" comment as well.
English may not be the persons primary language, but in an international forum such as this, you'll see grammar not being the best for some people.
Truth of the matter is, at least they try. Maybe if you didn't understand him, say so, I sure didn't....
In the same breath, however, your comment was rude, condescending and just as uncalled for.
Really, was there a point to your post?
You could say you are joking all you want, but typed words show no expression.
So in essence you are both wrong, and in fact both a tad childish.

There is no denying that Google has incredible vision.

Ahhhh yes we all like to edit our signatures and put in images or text about phones that we do not own and then we like to post in forums of phones we don't own. Well surprise I own a SGS3 (Not just 1 but 4 in my house) and I guess because the area I live in is so far advanced I have never had this "lockscreen when busy" happen because people from my planet all have CALL WAITING or VOICE MAIL which would be why I posted my initial reply to you.
In closing I'm sure with your positive and kind personality you have shown many will run to your rescue and provide a possible solution. I wait with excitement.

I agree. Keep this up and infractions will follow. This is the second report I have had about this thread.
Fix the problem and move on.

if youve never seen an s3 lockscreened on a busy signal then you dont own an s3.

i'm going to tell u this as nice as possible.. i dont want you replying to my threads anymore.. DONT REPLY TO ANY OF MY THREADS ANYMORE AND DONT PM ME, OTHERWISE I WILL REPORT YOU TO THE MODS FOR HARASSMENT.
You can use the Ignore option to put anyone on your Ignore list. Click on the person's name and then Add To Ignore list. Then you will not see his/her posts, but if that person happens to have something benificial, you will not see that either.
Anyone can use the report button but it is for specific reasons/rule violations. If you see anything that breaks those, by all means report it but there has to be a justifiable reason behind the report for it to be actioned.

Are you following me around? Keeping a journal on me or something? I'm hard on people because they have 0 posts and make new threads on topics that have multiple threads each less than a few days old..
While I may be a **** I also try to be helpful at the same time and not have a piss poor attitude to the people who are trying to help.
