Anyone else noticed that the official update has now been officially released for those who got their Hero from Orange?
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=675&news_id=261
I'm intrigued to know whether this ROM has the 'jumping landscape keyboard' bug. Wonder if there's anything of interest here for Paul's next MoDaCo ROM.
Yup! I posted the link elsewhere on here, and on various the sites, too.
I did the upgarde, and so far all is good. Not experienced the landscape keyboard bug yet though, so maybe they fixed it?
I can't say the speed has improved as much as people have said for other upgrades, such as Paul's (which I did try as well.)
Nice find....I was waiting for the next iteration of modaco's rom before I changed the rom....but might as well use this one until then.
Keyboard bouncing bug only occurs in the web browser in landscape mode when the search button is pressed. Could you please recheck and let us know then..and make sure you type something b4 you can confirm.
Would be nice if someone could get this uploaded somewhere, like rapidshare or mediafire.
Hi guys!
For all the unlucky Orange users,
I have an Orange branded Hero and I was trying to download the ROM but nothing it happened!message: Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device.
Any ideas or Does anyone know when Orange release the new firmware update?
This just came from Orange, based on email query to their website:
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Hero handset.
I am sorry to learn that you are unaware of our process regarding ROM updates for Orange phones. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
I would like to advise that you are only able to process ROM updates for an Orange branded handset directly from the Orange website and not direct from HTC themselves, this is due to the Orange branding that you have on your phone that allows you to use this on our network.
Please find below a link to our website where you are able to check in the future if a ROM update via Orange has been released.
http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Sa...96364420640&product=Feature&t=Product&tabid=1
I have also supplied below the required steps that you will need to take in order to organise an update to your phone. Be advised to follow the on-screen instructions as it will give you necessary and required information regarding your phone.
"your phone's features" > "download software updates" > "how do I download the latest software update" > "HTC Hero ROM update"
When a new ROM update is made available by a handset manufacturer they will pass a version of this to Orange so that we can run the required tests to confirm that this ROM update they have released will co-exist with the Orange branding that you are required to use on your phone.
It is possible that the new ROM update that is released may not co-exist with the Orange branding and thus we will not be able to release the ROM update for the HTC Hero, if they can not co-exist and we were to release this to your phone, this could affectively be detrimental to your handset and Orange will not process for this reason.
If the ROM update version can not co-exist with the Orange branding then we will wait for HTC to release a new ROM update to which we will restart the testing process accordingly.
Be aware that it is not possible to advise of any estimated timescale for the testing of this ROM update by Orange, furthermore, we can not guarantee that a ROM update will be released at all regarding the HTC Hero as the ROM updates that could be released may never work alongside the Orange branding on the phone.
Because some of this information is speculative and based on situations regarding the testing of ROM updates that may or may not ever be released by HTC and the time it takes to complete the testing of the new ROM updates, please accept my sincere apologies that we can not be more specific regarding your query.
If you are experiencing difficulties with your phone then we will need to run a diagnostic check to ascertain the cause of the problem. As this is a question and answer process, we are not able to diagnose problems by email. Please contact the Helpdesk on 150 from any Orange contract phone or 07973100150 from a landline.
One of our specially trained Customer Service Representatives will be happy to help with any difficulty you may be having with your phone. If the phone is diagnosed as faulty they will be able to advise you of your options. We are open from 8am to 10pm 7 days a week.
Please have your IMEI number to hand before you call. This can be located on the barcode within the battery cavity on the phone or by keying in *#06# from the Orange front screen.
If you experience any problems contacting our customer services, please can you email us with a phone number so we can contact you and arrange to transfer you to the relevant department to assist with your query.
I trust this information clarifies your query.
Kind regards
Wendy

Does anyone know if it's available as a .zip file so I can flash it as I do with Modaco.s Roms?
Will it unroot my phone, and can I get it back by just re-rooting it as before?
cheers

Quick question...
If i install the Orange update what do i lose ?...
e.g does my SD card get wiped... is it just like getting a brand new phone etc...
I am pretty sure its going to work like the Win Mob Rom updates... but just wana make sure
Well i went an updated... seems a bit faster... but i also notice there is no Java ?...
Was this ment to be included or was it left out on pupose for the Orange Rom...
Umm, i have noticed that when changing the Sense UI it takes a good few secs when you press to move an idea, it takes longer than it did before.
Anyone know about the Java etc ?
Cheers
MDX
after I installed this I cant root, got not permitted and failed(tried to install fonts)
then downgrade to modaco version - works fine
what is the problem? new catch by htc?
htc will close any doors.........
but if you look on here your fine another door open
Installed, did reset first – went without issue. Hero noticeably faster, and more importantly for me the signal appears a little better; at home I was getting one bar and dropping out in different areas of the house, now I see 2 bars dropping to 1 with only a couple of no signal areas. Glad I upgraded.
Managed to get through the Error 132.
I got the error using Vista, using XP there was no problems.
I successfully upgraded to the new Orange ROM last night. Anyone else now unable to add new Google Contacts directly from the "People" app? The "Contact type" drop down now only has SIM and Phone in it
Am I right in assuming that a factory reset won't restore the factory ROM?

Nope, I've got the upgraded Orange ROM and I still have Google Contacts as well as SIM and Phone.
One quick question... are you logged into Google? I've never tried using the phone by not being connected, but its all I could think of.

Hi guys, just tried updating my ROM to the new orange one and am getting Error 155. Iv had a search and cannot find anything relating to this. Has anyone else come across this?
Thanks

Yeah, I'm logged into Google. My phone sync'ed with Google contacts during setup and allows me to view and edit Google contacts, just not create new ones The only thing I can think of is that I got my Google password wrong the first time during setup, but that shouldn't cause any on-going problems.
This evening I've noticed that it won't connect to my Wifi network if broadcast SSID is turned off. It works fine when the SSID is on. I've turned the SSID on/off several times now - whenever it's off the phone just won't connect.
I'll try doing a factory reset and see if things improve...
I've just run a manual update check and it has found an update from t-Mobile to 1.15.110.11. Downloading now.
Update was quick and painless. No issues and no obvious changes.
Still behind the Generic one i updated to from the T-Mobile one, atm mine is 1.15.405.4
no, it's not behind the generic one.
110 is the code for t-mobile and 405 is the code for HTC branded EU devices. It is not a revision number.
1.15.110.11 is t-mobiles version of 1.15.405.4. they are the exactly the same ROM.
Bonus then
Downloading now, hoping this fixes the Charging issue for me!
Newbie questions...
1. When you say 'generic', does that just mean the standard HTC ROM?
2. I can't see it available for download yet from the HTC website?
3. When available - can you just install it over the top of the T-Mobile ROM - or do you have to 'hack' things somehow?

1. yes
2. might be availiable later, or might be not
3. you need to make a goldcard first then install a generic HTC Rom over the T-mobile one, this doesnt affect your warranty, unless you can flash back to t-mobile rom if you are willing to send it back for some reason
Ok, i've just installed it and i'm seeing the movement from one screen to another is little less smoother now.
Using Open Home, not looked at Sense as yet.
The fact that HTC and T-Mobile are able to tell us what the update actually / does apart from adding a number! is a little concern. Why issue an update if you don't know what it is for?
Will keep eye on Battery and smoothness of phone over w/e.
Just before the update I was looking at the battery usage stats and it said Android was 37% usage.
After upgrade it's now at 62% usage!
Anyone else confirm what is says on theirs?
Could someone who receives this update please take a copy of the file and upload it somewhere and post the url here
This file would be very handy in possibly creating a way of re-branding our t-mobile handsets

Cez, just to clarify for the guy, did you mean this does affect your warranty unless you can flash it back?
If you sent a T-Mobile Desire with the generic ROM back for repair it'd be returned as invalid warranty. If you can get it back to how it was out the box they should be none the wiser
When I check for mine it still says no update.

If you did not receive your phone first (the 27th) I believe you already have the update! Just letting you know
(I think)
Am installing now (actually just finishing) during the process the phone appeared to reboot twice, does that imply a radio upgrade?
By the way, love the update graphics for this, haven't seen any since i updated from 1.0 to 1.1 on the G1.
When ordering, I asked T-Mobile about ROMs - they said I could get updates from themselves or direct from HTC, and neither would invalidate the warranty. Not sure I believed 'em though. I've learnt to take what sales people say with a big 'pinch of salt'!
no, what t-mobile told you was not true, mainly because the guy you asked is likely not paid enough to give a **** about whether he's right or not....

As far as it goes this statement is not incorrect. If you use a legitimate ROM ,designed for your hardware and carrier and released by your carrier and/or hardware manufacturer you will not invalidate the warranty. If you used a ROM released by HTC for Virgin Mobile phones on a T-Mobile phone however this would be unacceptable (assuming they notice the difference)
Hi. I recently rooted and installed a WWE "sensefroyo" rom off the internet.
And I just figured out (since a couple of hours) that my speaker isn't working AT ALL.
Before, it worked when you left the battery out for a minute and put it back in. it worked flawlessly. But after a while it'd go back to being messed up.
Now its screwed. and wont work at all.
I didnt realise I needed to get it replaced till now.
I really need the Telus Desire rom asap. As I just emailed them about it, and most likely need to get it replaced/fixed. And I dont know much about Telus, if you lose warranty privileges if you root/custom ROM it.
Unless I can tell them that I installed the official 2.2 ROM (dont know if it needs root) off those .exe files (the RUU_Signed) kind. (They didn't work for me. So i rooted using recovery)
Or if you can link me to one where I can find a rom that does not require rooting, and has an .exe file and a copy of a .zip kind.
I wrote a lot here, and its all over the place.
Right now. Either link me to the Telus Desire rom. or one where I can flash without rooting.
I am going to unroot as soon as I get one of those two things^
Thanks. I just hope you guys know what kind of freaky situation I am in.
Where did you buy it, and how long has it been since you bought it?
Depending on those factors, you may not need to worry too much.
I had it activated on a 3 year contract almost a week ago(Not even a week)
What do you mean by I will not have to worry about these things?
Is Telus a carrier that is more on the 'chill' side of things?
EDIT - So I just got off the phone with Telus.
The representative told me if I installed something that Telus did not release. That basically voids my warranty. So now I really need to get back exactly as it was before.
Can someone please help me out here?
I need to go to a dealer soon to get it replaced.
I am pretty sure I can unroot it myself with no issues I guess.
I really need something that matches with the same stats as a Telus Desire.
You should probably try starting over.
If your rom is still rooted, get ROM Manager and install clockworkmod.
You can install something stable like opendesire and wipe data/cache.
You should be fine, unless you really have some unusual desire to be on Telus' rom.
I was wondering if someone can post what their 'software version' looked like on a Telus Desire
Maybe then I can try to get the same radio and 'stats' as a factory device.
I got on a rep and they also said that the worst thing that can happen is your device will be sent back.
They even said that some people wont even notice the software change and stuff.
If at the end I cant get a Telus rom. I would LOVE a link to an Eclair build rom. Possibly one that is an official.
Didn't you nandroid backup prior to moving to froyo?
From what I understand you can restore from that.

I actually have NO idea what nandroid was.
I just followed instructions off a tut on xda.
So I cant seem to find factory eclair roms.
Now I read around a little bit more.
And just feel completely stupid.
Please. Someone. A factory Eclair build.
start by getting clockworkmod installed.
Without knowing what state your device is in, it's tough to help you.
but with clockworkmod recovery going, you will easily be able to switch between roms.
Honestly you couldn't have bought it that long ago, just return it to the store, the guys don't even know how to check.

If I were you, I would go back to the store you got it from, with your recipt and contract. You have 14 days to return any phone. That's how I got my desire, I returned a Hero. Make sure you take everythign back you got, charger, phones, etc. Tell them waiting to get a band new phone fixed is a waste of your time, and you want to exchange the phone right away.
So long as you have a sense UI ROM running, I doubt they will know you have rooted the phone. The guys where I bought the phone didn't know too much about it.
If you managed to get a tech support guy to tell you they might not notice, you clearly have the power to get what you need from people. Be forceful if you have to, within 2 weeks they should just give you a brand new phone. After 14days though, your gonna have to live with no speaker, hope it's actually a software issue(doesn't sould like it if even stock it was failing), or send it back and hope they don't miss it. To the best of my knowledge there are no Telus official roms to be found, but there are many official roms from other places. As long as your background doesn't say VodaPhone or something, how will they know?

Telus has 30 day DOA over the counter exchange.
YAh but he made the mistake of telling them e rooted and flashed it (why on earth would any one do that i dont know)
So they have flagged that IMEI in the system as void.
Your best bet is to try doing a wipe and flashing back to the telus 2.1 rom and radio, you will, the recovery is gone though as we dont hava ruu.
Actually. I didnt. I went straight for asking the question off a residential phone that uses Rogers. So they don't know who I was or any account related things.
The first time I called though, I told them that the speaker wasnt working and I wanted it replaced.
So no my IMEI is not flagged, guarantee you that part.
I will try using the OpenDesire 3.5.0 with "clear/wire cache"
This might work for you and i think its your best bet.

Go to the above thread, follow the instructions and make a gold card.
then go to the following thread, download official froyo rom and flash it. It looks almost the same as the original rom.

I cant seem to do the goldcard thing.
I am using the official 2.2 at the moment.
It does look the same as 2.1 Telus itself.
What does it mean over here?
# Ensure you have unzipped the SDK, then open a command prompt to the extract location. Change to the 'tools directory.
# Type
Code:
adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
and press enter. You should get a very long number which looks like this: 532600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402.

I am done making the GoldCard. What does it even do though?
It has something to do with switching to the factory rom..
Now. I have issues with the RUU. It does not wait long enough for the phone to be in bootloader.
EDIT - Is there any way I can "remove" or uninstall the Superuser Permissions app and the "Wi-Fi Hotspot" app? To make it appear even more legitimate.

I packed up the telus stock rom from a nandroid dump you can try it.
http://www.mightyrom.com/mrx/MRX/Bravo/Stock/Telus_HTC_Desire_Stock_2.1_NoRADIO.zip
Hey I needed to unroot my phone too and I tried a bunch of things then I was following procedures to root my phone again because I tried installing the Rom that was posted by the person that posted before me and I messed up and got lots of errors when I got the phone started and had to force close a bunch of things constantly. Anyways I followed step 3 of the tut for rooting TELUS desires on this forum site and when it restarted I got my stock TELUS Rom back unrooted. This is the step I followed
3. Go to HBOOT, this is done by shutting down your phone and powering on the device while holding the Power button down and pushing Volume down at the same time, once HBOOT is loaded do a wipe (Clear Storage). You can navigate the menus by using the volume rocker and the Power button to select your option.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7818278 is the link to the tut I was following.
I dunno how it worked but it did, I got my stock TELUS Rom by doing this. Maybe I got lucky and maybe you might too. Oh and just for your info, the tut I used to root my desire initially was this one forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750888. Good luck
So, just to keep telus update waiters in touch with whats going on with the OTA Froyo 2.2 update.
EDIT : The RUU is also avaiable ! You can continue to mess with your desire..and get back to the factory ROM if any problem:

I will put links to how to resolve different problems later...
If it's not out tomorrow, I think that's gonna be the push I need to make one of those fancy goldcards and install an RUU version of Froyo. What does the telus one have anyway, EDGE disabled?
EDIT: Thanks for collecting this info; more than I knew before.
The telus update won't offer much as I know. They will put some of their crappy apps that you can't delete...add some feature in apps (music dowloading or ringtones downloading... with some downloadable stuff) and thats it.
Any developers on XDA could do this job within 1 week... Htc desire was out on july or august on Telus... and they struggle to get it done in time.
Gold card is not a bad idea at all. Avoiding warranty kinda hurt me.

no reason in loosing your mind over this
my phone is currently not working because of radio not compatible with froyo issue. And this RUU might possibly be the only i can fix my problem. No one on this forum was able to give me any help.
Every minute is too long of a wait. RUUs should be out the second a phone is out with the original rom and so on. Not when updates come up and the whole world had time to test those updates..and then..you know what..last minute we notice there's an issue. It's ok, it's not like people stuck in a 3 year contract with a nice paper weight as a phone can do anything about it either..

Root and flash a custom ROM is an easy option... anyone can do it... but like I said... many people don't want to loose their one year warranty...
I'll wait to see what's in the update package... if too many ****ty telus's apps ... I will probably jump in the boat. Unbrand the phone with a gold card and get OTA updates directly from HTC seems to be the cleanest solution for me.
Come on Telus...don't disappoint us ...
btw: More then 50% Desire's owner (Canad) are not with telus... we all bought the phone at full price. And get stucked with telus's apps ( and you can't remove them) will defininetly be disappointing.

That could be the reason to why Telus took out the outright price. I'm with Telus and I even bought it outright then gave it off and bought another outright a month later.
And yes Telus are one of the worst for OS updates, the Hero just got the 2.1 update today. And the Milestone has been taking forever.

Telus is the worst with OS updates. It was a full year before the Black Berry os update came to the Storm. I tried to do some freaking out at the store to get a new phone style stuff when they told me the new update just came out. I told them it had been a year- why would I assume it would ever come out?
Ill wait to see what ****ty Telus apps they install (is that what is taking them so long?) before I decide what I want to do. I could unbrand or switch to a diff rom- but I think I like sense.
I can understand the "RAGE" about telus sucking at updates. But why are you guys so upset. they will release froyo, all the **** in it will be old as dirt. no one will use anything from it to build a custom rom. And if you want something good you will flash a custom one.
Its like telling the future, except im pretty much guaranteed to be right.
The only thing if at all im concerned about is the ril and the radio.
And maybe a telus voice call app cuz they have it on my account, but be ****ed if i know how to get it going right now.
As for telus and installing ****ty apps. they have been good about that lately, i expect to see little to no Telus apps on the rom. The 2.1 rom was devoid of anything telus but the home page.
Good is subjective my friend. If you find froyo old as dirt its ok... but four those who want to keep their warranty...we have no choice. The probability of loosing 600$ is enough to not make changes on our phone...that will result on loosing the warranty.
Your are not the first...and not the last person to tell us to root..unbrand and bla bla bla...

Loosing warranty is relative to the knowledge of the user.
There is a pretty easy way to put the device back to factory software if you take the correct steps.
Thats if you have to. If the device is a brick before you return it then no harm.
ive already unrooted a telus desire, restored the stock rom from a nandroid backup (unrooted the backup) then flashed the radio back to the stock telus radio. after this i used fastboot to flash a stock recovery back on and lastly flashed the .83.0001 Hboot with fastboot, removing the s-off hboot. effectively returning the whole device back to stock. with all the correct software version numbers.

It's good to know that it is possible to return to the stock config. I think a lot of us "waiters" would get off the bench if we knew it was possible to go back to stock if necessary.
Juggalo_X, would you consider writing a step by step process for returning a Desire to the stock config? Since you have already done it...
The thread is not about how to flash a stock ROM.
I will pay to see you restoring a stock rom when The screen is dead or when your phone wont start...

I got a Telus Desire, so here is my delema (and question)
1. Like HTC Sense and would like to keep it
2. Have a lot of reason to move to 2.2 (BT dialing)
3. want to root phone
I'm guessing there are stock HTC Desire rom floating around (from the factory unlocked desire) but are those rooted/rootable? I heard HTC has been making it harder and harder for us to root. And will rom for AMOLED work with sLCD phone?

Oky did some more Google-ing and found this, might be useful to you guys

This is the rooted official Desire Rom
don't have time now but will have look through if this will work for our radio and sLCD issue.
if you guys already know, feel free to post and tell us
AlphaX
I tried a similar (probably the same) rom, but from this thread:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
I updated the radio to the latest, everything seems to be good and no bugs that I can see.

There would be no point in restoring a dead device.
I'm under the impression that you think htc checks the flash on every dead device? this is not so. its cheaper for them to replace the whole main board in a device rather then pay an engineer to remove the board put it on a bed of nails dump the rom via jtag routine and then analyze the binary images.
Also, If we're on the topic of paying me to restore a device with a blank screen send me one ill jtag it for fun and restore the device. How much you willing to pay? i need a Desire Z you know
On a side note, In the past 5 years ive probably sent at the VERY least 15 bricked devices back to HTC, WITH software that would void the warranty on them. and i have ALWAYS got my device returned fixed under warranty every single time.

Pretty difficult to believe that. 15 bricked...
Also just about anyone (cell carrier, manufaturer via phone, etc) will tell you rooting, unlocking and modifying (removing bloatware) will void warranty. I have heard of people sending in devices with those and succeeding but not very often.
15 bricked in 5 Sears. A reason to not listen to you. Not everyone has the time to mess with their phones that much...learn to jtag..etc..

Hi, Hope some1 can help me!
ok.. so i have been installing custom roms etc within the last couple of months.. the latest one i used was RCMIX3D Runnymede. This was working absolutely fine until one day the WIFI, the bluetooth, and the up and down volume keys all stopped working. When trying to turn on wifi it says Error. same with bluetooth... i have tried absolutly everything to sort this out. different roms etc.. the volume buttons don't even work in bootloader recovery mode!
I have now managed to install the RUU stock rom 1.32 using my laptop.. and still nothing works..
so i'm thinking must be a hardware problem?! and wanting to send to HTC for a repair... thing is.. i am wondering will they know i have rooted and installed custom roms etc?.. as i now have stock rom from RUU and will update to 2.3.5 via OTA on my 3g network..
Is there anything else i need to do? or have i messed up my chances to get my DHD repaired on the warranty?
Really hope somebody can help!! as this is doing my nut!
Cheers
Garry
hardware failure most likely if its not even working in recovery
my vol - doesnt work, im waiting for the day when the vol + goes kaput as well ,, a weak link in an other wise excellent phone
sometime i think engineers at htc went for lunch when it was time to make the volume rocker
Surely somebody would know if rooting etc would void the warranty?! i have stock rom and now unrooted......
I've just sent my phone back for replacement (long story short, HTC didn't repair my phone completely when they were supposed to, I had to take my phone back, didn't have time to replace it, and after some haggling I finally have got them to get a replacement sorted for me). I sent it back rooted, but with stock firmware (apparently Mac users don't exist, and I'm not installing a copy of Windows on my system just to unroot my phone).
Note that in the Nexus One warranty policy, there was a clause "h", which stated that rooting voided the phone's warranty. None of the phones since, whether that be the Desire or the Desire HD, have this clause. So it is safe to assume, and you have a strong point to argue, that rooting does not void your warranty, though if you come to brick your phone, of course, you won't be covered.
There is no other clause, apart from this clause "h", that covers software; it all covers hardware failure.
Finally, there are loads of stories that I've read of people sending off rooted phones for repair, and them coming back rooted, whereas there are few of phones being rooted, and being refused repair. Also, as you will know, to restore the phone to a standard, completely stock, factory fresh state, all you do is run the RUU; sending a phone back when a simple RUU restore is possible, to me at least, would not be economical, both in terms of time and money.
Get it back on s-on using Easy Radio tool v2_2 found here on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537 and unroot and it should be fine.
However I understand you can´t use volume buttons, but well if you can root the device with visonary then you can do s-on using the tool I mentioned.
After that call HTC explain them your problem and send it for repair. I guess they will not find any traces that you used custom roms and also I heard from several people on www.tweakers.net who used custom roms and even didnt return it on s-on still got there warranty when they had it go for repair.
But most important don't mention about root or custom roms to HTC, aslong as you do that they will probably give the warranty and also HTC is not one doing the repairs it are external repair companies so it might be different for each country.
And yes if you would still have the custom rom on it would void your warranty, that's why I would always put it back to stock if possible, but about root I don't know, but before In returned in my phone for repair I just did a factory reset so that all data was gone and any traces off root.
Thanks for your responses,
I've since found a link on another site.. which shows somebody with the exact same problem and has got HTC to admit its this is a known fault.
http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-troubleshooting/300012-wifi-error-bluetooth-wont-connect-volume-button-not-responding.html
i'll crack on with the S-on thingy and call them tomorrow to send for repair or replacement
Cheers again for clearing that up
