Stopping screen timeout when under power - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Sprint SPH-L710
rooted and running Blazer 1.6 Rom
I have not been able to set up this phone to stay alive when under power. It makes it nearly useless as a GPS. I think this is an ICS issue more than the phone but nevertheless, I would still like the option.
Now I do have several apps that can keep the phone lit but that is another matter. Any ideas?

You can try this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.k2.no.screen.off

Power off issue

I'm on ICS UVLE1 and it seems that I am suffering from a power off issue where the magenta T-Mobile box stays on and the phone never really shuts off. It says brightly lit and I have to force it to turn off by pressing the power button for 30 seconds. It just sucks. It happens whenever I want to reboot or power off my phone. It just never really shuts off or restarts.
I still can't seem to fix this problem and I'm just not enjoying my experience on ICS or maybe my Galaxy S2 is one of those bad apples. Sad to say, I guess my expectations were a little to high. :-/
I rooted and installed ICS mms gallery and calendar . I notice this issue you have l but it restart fine just lag on power off so I just hold power down no biggie

I was going to complain about the same.
I've even tried reinstalling, wiping, etc. Also, time zone resets to zero. F'ing annoying.
I'm looking around to see if I find anything.

have you tried formatting your sd card where the photos and downloads are kept? i had the same issue, albeit with the telus rom, and formatting the sd card worked for me.

This issue has been addressed many times. Look for dark side cache wipe. Flash it. Then you should be good to go. It has to do with using cwm to flash roms. Don't use the wipe feature in it, flash either super wipe "everything" or cache wipe from TDJ.

This is a very well known issue. If you are unrooted, do a factory reset. If you are rooted, flash TDJs cache wipe.

Would you happen to have a link for it?

Also, the Dark something super wipe works wonders. Wipe, reinstall ROM, and you're ready to go.
In the Q& A forum, I posted the instructions. In the development section, you can find the Super Wipe.

I was having this exact issue during shutdown and reboots. It went away after flashing TDJ's Darkside.Cache.Wipe.
I had the same issue, just reinstall it and you'll be fine.

Use the latest CM7 nighty build cm-7-20120617-NIGHTLY-epicmtd.zip
Also stick with the stock kernel the rom comes with.

No he means reflash the latest nightly and stick with the kernel it comes with. If that don't work you will have to Odin.

When i look in settings, under tweaks.. and OC- i see it set no higher or allowing higher than 1000.
My Question remains- WHY is my GPRS automatically turning on, especially with Airplane mode on. I thought it was connected to my WIFI, but it turns on even if i have wifi off.
Do you actually mean gprs the gsm technology or do you really mean gps?
I doubt gprs is turning on since this is a cdma phone that doesn't support it.

Well eliminate one factor by flashing the latest nightly with stock kernel which allows you to OC within by going to settings/cyanogenmod settings/performance/ there will be a setting to allow for 1200 OC.
OR
Now that you have over 10 post ask in your kernels thread.
The software says gprs. I still basically mean data, not wifi. It appears to use a lot of power.
It is always on.

I just flashed with the new nightly, I still have data issues, and I don'tsee the option to OC. I'll do a fresh format and image to remove doubt.

I've been having issues backing everything up so i can do a fresh flash. But- does anyone have anything on this?
Ok- I just formatted my phone and
Flashed it. Upon flash of nightly - without recovering any apps or anythjng' my phone did not show the oc of anything. After installing go apps, my phone showed mobile data on and in use.
After that I installed my samuri kernel and fully recovered my pps. I thought that maybe go switch widget was initiating the mobile data... but it isn't. Any ideas?

Once again, formatted fresh. Rc2, no oc, mobile data persistent on, home button doesn't work until reboot and install of some apps.
Help please.

So, after messing with my issue a bit further. I have come to notice that the Mobile Data turns it's self on in either timely increments (once every 5-10 mins) Or It is scheduled to turn on every time the device is unlocked. My "Go Power" thing has reported that the Mobile data a lone is using up about 1/4 the power.
Also, i STILL have no seen ANY Over Clock option in ANY stock variable of this installation.
I HAVE noticed that every time i clean flash my phone, the home button does not work until at least a reboot of the device.
What is the latest version of gapps. available? I went to the IRC- and everyone pointed over to the ICS package, which i did try and it really killed my phone. I Have to stick with the Gingerbread.
Bump

So. anyone? -
Don't some power saving apps cycle data off and on on a schedule, rather than "always on"? If the problem started after you installed go power, or other battery saving apps/tweaks, I'd try uninstalling them.

ICS Problems

This has been pretty much been the most frustrating update process of my 4 Android devices that I have owned.
Hoping some of the sharp people here can help me out.
Buttons Not Working - About every third or fourth time I wake my phone my physical buttons do not work. I have to put the phone to sleep and re-wake (sometimes multiple times) to get my phone's buttons to work.
Excessive Battery Drain - Yikes!!! I have uninstalled all my apps, and it is still occurring. Any other ideas to figure out what might be causing this?
Constant 3G data movement - When wi-fi is off, my phone is constantly pushing 3g data up and down....non-stop!
Excessive Phone Heat - My phone is running like a furnace.
Now, I think the last three are probably connected in some way.

That is not ICS you have something running in the background. That would cause all of that. Get a battery monitor app and see what is running

I am glad I am not the only ones with these problems.
It has to be a ICS function that is causing the excessive battery drain.
I currently have no non stock apps installed.
I have noticed that the battery ran from 100% to 25% but battery drain had no slowed considerably....maybe faulty logic in how they are calculating percentages?
The one I would really like to solve is the buttons not working, as there will be lots of battery related threads as more and more people upgrade.

The malfunctioning buttons have been happening to some of us on every ROM, whether it's Gingerbread or ICS. It happens to mine on stock GB or stock I'VE.
Just so you know, you can tap the volume Roche to wake up the buttons. You don't have to cycle the screen. Tap the volume button, wait second or so and you will see the capacitive buttons blink once... That means they've reset. Sometimes you have to do it twice.

I tried this yesterday when I was getting terrible battery life. I went from fully charged to dead in 3 hours flat.
I ended up doing a factory reset with sfhub's one-click and am slowly testing and restoring apps to see what's acting as a vampire.

You should try it again if it didn't work!
Not everyone's issue is going to be caused by the same thing. What may work for you may not always work for everyone else. It may be an app or ICS in general causing the issue.

Things i hate about the recent ics update

Los problems i never had before
Bad battery life
No mass storage usb mode
The worst is... It makes sound when you power it off now. Who was the genius that thought that one up? Like on the middle of a movie theater or in a meeting.
This is driving me to root my phone. Gj Samsung.

1. Let the kernel sit sometimes it takes a while to set in. If not try a factory reset. Resets are usually needed after an Android update to function properly. My batt did drop a lil than on GB but not too bad.
2. I believe sfhub has a tweak to enable USB storage back if you need it that bad.
3. When in the movie theater or a meeting a phone should be on vibrate from the start. All it takes is a drop down of the notification bar and voila vibrate or silent without powering down. But if you chose to power off the sound it makes would be silenced.
None of your issues sound as bad as what many others are experiencing..

After the Jellybean update my phones screen seems to not turn off.

After I updated my phone to jelly bean via the root 66 inject method my screen seems to not time out.
I have my display timeout set to 15 seconds and I have smart stay turned on.
My question is did the update do this to my phone or is it possible that something on my phone is keeping my phone awake.
If that's the case how can I solve this problem?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Have you tried with smart stay off?
Make nandroid backup first. Then in app manager try wiping data for settings/settings storage.
If thst doesn't help, then factory reset using cwm or twrp. (Stock recovery will also wipe your internal sd)
It may be that there's some data from before you updated that's causing your problem.

Download extended controls and add toggles Screen always on and stay awake. make sure that both of these are disabled. its a weird bug. I had this problem when I was chraging my phone and the screen would never turn off.
Try fixing permissions in recovery. If that doesn't help, make buckup to external sd and try odin again

I was having this issue with my S3, 100% stock. I tried restarting the phone, power off then power on, hard reset and nothing worked. What did end up working was setting a different timeout than what was selected and going back to the home screen, then I went and changed the timeout duration to the one I wanted, went back to the home screen and then restarted my phone. My phone has been working fine and timing out like it should for the last week and a half.
Sometimes when I get a SMS my screen won't turn off. Only started to happen after JB.
