I use "Sms backup & restore" its an app from the market that backup all your text amd can be restored whenever you want... i used to flash my evo alot and used the app to restore text messages no pic messaging tho..im pretty sure you can ise it with any rom when switching... just make sure the backup is done somewhere were you wont delete while flashing.... its the app with the blue icon and a clock theres different ones
I have only used it twice from stock el19 to calkulin 3.0 and then on ff18 so it worked for me i hope it helps.. just dont blame me if u loose ur text ok :b
I use an app called "SMS Backup" and it works just fine.
I use My Back Up Pro...Love it! Used since my HTC days…works like a charm. You can back up your data online or to your sd card. Online is bit of a hassle so I just back it up to my sd card......Never used SMS Back Up so can't speak on it but My Back Up Pro backs up everything, not just sms, but contacts (not necessary but it does) apps with or without data, setting, home screens, pictures, you name it.

When I'm trying out different ROMs, the thing that always annoys me is that I lose all my messages and calls. I looked in Titanium Backup and couldn't find one. What app (not a nandroid backup, that's overkill) will allow me to keep my stuff when I switch ROMs that require wipes.
Bonus points if it can save my Scene from HTC Sense.
Mybackup pro
TitaniumBackup will most certainly backup and restore your sms and call history. It will even save your SenseUI scenes and icon placement. Use the filters to select system only, then unchecked all the red settings. Only caveat is that this only works going from one SenseUI to another. If you try to restore in a froyo rom, you will likely get Force closes on lots of stuff.

I tested all the green system ones that looked relevant (ex. not calendar) and none of them restored call logs or sms messages. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place...

I think the green one that says dailer, that one seemed to load my history, and then there is a couple that start with sms, which loads all of your messages. I haven't had a problem.
I just went with MyBackup Pro. It works how I expected, and also offers online backup. Thanks for all your help, though.
Okay I enjoy rooting my phone and changing Roms all the time but I just have a quick question. I play homerun battle 3d a lot and I'm addicted to getting far in the game however everytime I flash a new Rom my data is erased now the question is how do I go about saving the data and restoring it after a Rom flash off about my other apps just this one. I know everyone is going to say titanium backup but how do I go about saving and restoring it thanks for the help
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Titanium. Use the batch backup and batch restore functions for your apps + data. When you restore, you need to reboot your phone to let the system data populate.
I don't want to backup all my apps just that one game and its data. And when I flash a Rom do I install as usual then restore or do I just go to titanium and it'll set everything up itself
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Don't install it first, just use titanium to restore that app+data. You won't lose a thing. HRB3D is awesome, I completely understand your concerns.
THANKS and my final question is do I need to have titanium backup pro to back up data or is the free one good enough
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The free one will do it. The only difference between the two versions that I have noticed is the batch restore on the paid version is set it and forget it, whereas the free version you have to hit ok for every. single. freaking. app that you want to restore.
Oh okay thanks that's no problem for ne I just need to save that game the rest I can download fresh thanks so much saved ne so much playing and replaying of the samething

I don't like titanium. MyBackup works better IMO.

I've heard a few people say that. What does MyBackup do that Titanium doesn't? Or what does it do better?
Much more user friendly IMO.
You can choose to backup your data and then deselect anything that you don't want to backup (ie. text messages, call log, bookmarks, etc.).

You can choose to backup your apps and then deselect any that you don't want to backup. It will then ask you if you want to backup apps, app data, or apps and app data.
It has a free 30 day trial.......try it out.

Well you can do that with titanium too. I will admit though, it's not a very user friendly app, at least not at first. It took me a minute to figure out how to use it. I will check out MyBackup though on your recommendation. It's always good to have multiple options. Thanks!
heres the deal: i want to try out cyanogen, but my primary rom is Skyraider. but there is one problem... my dinc is my primary phone (cant wait til my g1 gets here ), and has all my 9-somesh*t contacts, and messages, and everything else. does anyone recommend any apps to backup and restore contacts, messages, and all that good stuff? also, does anyone have any tips, tricks, or mods i can furthur customize cyanogen? thnx a lot!
Well, If you go ahead and save all your messages onto your gmail account as soon as you sign into it on the new rom all those contacts are ported. SMS I have not found a way to save but any important info just save it somewhere else.

I use the SMS Backup app, it will backup all your texts to your gmail. You can specify what tag to use. The app is free.
Pretty sure Titanium Backup doing back up all apps + system data will do this

do not try restoring system settings across ROMs - not a good idea.
I use my backup pro. Works extremly well for me!

i decided to buy the app, and it really does work great! although i wish my contacts didnt show double whenever i went from skyraider to cyanogen. other than that it works great!
Im about to flash to a new ROM from Myn's Warm 2.2. Love the ROM but I wanted to venture to another to test out. However, I have an application called AuthAnvil, it is used at work and is a variable pin code that syncs with a server. Is there any god forsaken way to save the app data so I do not have to jump through the hoops at work to resync the app. I did a full ROM backup just in case and also a Titanium backup. Will this work for me to restore it to the new ROM all settings in tact?
It should work fine if you backed up the app and system data to go with it. What I do in TB is make a custom filter with apps and their data that are really important that way I only back up what I need.
I make a filter called important then restore my apps/data to new rom, works flawless.

yea but TB has known to be unstable when going from dif. types of ROMs, like from froyo to ginger, sense 1 to sense 2.1 or 3.0, etc. I would look on your SD card to see if any data is on there.. or if possible move app to SD then copy data, put back on after reflashing.
Its been a while since I posted on this but I have diagnosed this a few separate times and Finally! the authentication app company actually had enough complaints to post something on their FAQ.
But it seems that there are certain app's like say an authenticator that when you download it to a sense based rom you can flash all day long to different sense based roms without any issues. Once you go to any AOSP roms it will break the key generator. You can restore it all you want, it will not display the digits.
Now my real curiosity is that its just an app, it doesn't know the difference thats in on a HTC sense based phone or a Samsung. Am I looking to much into it because it is a Two factor authentication app and more stuff runs then I realize? Or is the app design flawed?
okay so with the new handcent sms update a feature included is "Default messaging application"
the description for this is:
"Set handcent as the default messaging application, completely disable stock messaging application and 3rd application for SMS or MMS."
my question is, does this make it possible to delete the stock messaging app through root uninstaller?
And i only want to do this because they finaly came out with an ALL black theme lol.
In my experience with using this same option on GO SMS, yes, if you set Handcent to handle incoming/outgoing SMSs and MMSs, you can delete stock messenger. I'd suggest just freezing it in Titanium Backup if you can, though. And if you delete it, make a backup of it first.

Ill try that then, thanks! The stock messaging app seems to be open in the background a lot.

I had always heard that handcent needs the stock messaging - that hand cent is more of a ui not a service.
I'd love to yank the stock one if it's not necessary.
No you don't need the stock messanger for handcent to work. Both the wifes phone and mine are running handcent only. As mentioned above though use Titanium or Root Uninstaller Pro to back up the app first just in case. I've unistalled it a fair number of times thanks to my Rom'itus and never had an issue though!

Yes I was using handcent for some time, every time I flashed a rom I would uninstall mms.apk with titanium and get handcent, it works just fine.
Although, from what I understand you cannot receive mms with handcent on sprint, never tried having both stock and handcent to see if u receive that way
Sent from my SPH-D700
Thanks guys! Yeah I just pulled the stock one , and it works just fine, but I would recommend freezing or backing up.
*edit* oh and btw I think you can remove mms.apk since thi app gives you the option of handling both sms and mms.

Edit: DO NOT selct the retrieve automatically setting under handcent settings. It will overide the voicemail and you will only reciecve voicemail notifacations through sms/mms.
