[Q] CYANOGEN MOD/THEME Clarification

I am new to the cyanogen mods.. I've been using Sense UI and honestly Im getting bored....
Ive been reading a lot and my brain is just fried and I need a little help.
In order to use a cyanogen theme would I need to have a cyanogen modded phone? My phone is rooted to sprint lovers rom.. (Sense)
So can I just take a theme and flash it as normal? The other question that I have is I've seen comments such as dont flash a cyanogen them on this mod...etc.. If its just a theme does it really matter on the mod?
Ive also seen that I need to back up my nandroid.. Well I have already backed up my nandroid from rooting my Evo using the Sense based rom... If I flash to a cyanogen would I need to do another nandroid back up since I technically already have my original nandroid BEFORE I rooted??
What is the advantage of the Cyanogen? Can I still use apps from Sense? I;ve also read posts on downloading the google apps? Google apps like what? Google Talk.. I know google talk is needed for the marketplace?
So as you can see I have a lot of questions.. but the forums I've read dont really answer what Im looking for.. I know I can search.. But what is the real advantage of a cyanogen mod?
Does the cyanogen allow me to basically wipe my phone completely and build from scratch.. therefore giving me faster load... etc..

Cyanogen is a whole rom...has nothing to do with a theme. Download the rom...wipe phone...flash it like you did Sprint Lovers.
It looks as if you are not fully comfortable or knowledgeable enough with the flashing of roms to know what is going on. I would recommend you read the sticky in the Q&A Section that explains what you can do. If you don't take the time to search then at least use Google!

Please guys give the guy a break. First off download the rom of your choice. If your new to custom roms check out miui it doesn't have 4g but if your looking for something different you would probably like that.
After you have the rom you want to do a nandroid back up just incase there are any problems then wipe your cache, dalvic cache, and do a factory reset all from your recovery. Then flash the new rom and enjoy! hit thanks if it helped.

Sorry I figured this would go in this section... And I am familiar with how to flash... Thats not the issue.. There are soooo many ROMS for cyanogen....
What I want is a Rom that has the same qualities as the sprints lover.. 4G, 4G wireless tether, wired tether etc.. and of course the ability to use some of sprints stock apps if I want to add.....
So im willing to take a beating for the wrong section... So you said that I would still need to do a nandroid back up???? Why would I need to do that if I already have a nandroid backup of my phone already....I had to unroot my phone for sprint warranty issue.. But now that I have my phone.. I guess it wouldnt be too much to do another copy.. I guess my question is that if I've already created a nan back up why would I need to do it again...

just playing I would try eod ROM its cm7 but bad ass with the deception apk theme oh and no you can't use cm themes on sense.

If youre just looking for a change of scenery you should download a new launcher from the market (adw ex is my personal favorite, there's also a free version or there's plenty of others too). It will give you a new homescreen interface, tons of customization, more speed and ability to use themes to change the complete look of your device. Adw ex and launcher pro also have screen transitions which are really sweet.
About cyanogenmod, that is a complete Rom which will replace everything on your phone. It is built from the android source code for each device and focuses on speed, power and customization without the added weight of sense and other add ons. Typically it is recommended for more advanced users, not because its hard to use but because it has many options that may not interest you unless you realy want to beef up your device.
A nandroid backup is always recommended when making major changes to your phone or flashing a new Rom because if you don't like the changes or screw something up it will allow you to restore everything back to that state.

Nandroid, download CM7 stable build in official thread, wipe every thing you can in recovery except your SD card, flash cm7 from SD card. Reboot.
There isn't a ton of cm7 roms, only ONE official.

Not trying to start anything, but I believe that we should be discussing this ROM as many people love and have been using it. I have been going to the droid sections to find info. on this ROM and figure out issues that are going on, but have found that a few of these issues don't apply to the EVO.
So, first let me say that this is a very nice ROM...love that weather animation and it has several very nice features which will get better in time. Boot ups are very quick and I really like that CRT TV turn off effect. So, thanks to all the Dev.s that have worked on this ROM.
As some know it is a 285+/- meg flash, so it seems that I can't load as many apps after the flash as some of the other ROMS out there. I have partitioned my Gtablet before but it doesn't seem to be as straightforward with my version of CWM (cant find it?)
Do I want to partition my SD card to free up more space nad what is the recommended partition size? Thanks.

Doing some homework first might help. This is right from his site:
INSTRUCTIONS
BACK UP YOUR MEMORY CARD TO YOUR COMPUTER THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING
Reboot into recovery (if your not on AmonRA's latest put THIS on your sd, boot into bootloader and install
Select Partition sdcard
Select Partition SD
I have a 18GB Card so i left the swap at 32mb you can choose 0 if you like
Ext2-size = 2048 (this is 2GB the reason so big is because of the 3.0 packages taking up so much space)
Select upgrade ext2 to ext3
Select upgrade ext2 to ext3
Select upgrade ext2 to ext3
First flash the PRI and hit reboot let it flash the 1.77 Pri this will make sure your phone sleeps
Next flash the rom and enjoy!!!

Good thing i downloaded it before they close the thread

i was trying to tranfere the weather app from this rom to the B1.3 but i got no luck i try using root explorer and copying the wather apk, htc clock apk and one that says com.htsomthing to the system app then changed the premition and rebooted the phone i click on the weather clock and what happed is it open the new weather widget for like 2 seconds and then FC.
i rich my limit any help?

it doesn't because there's a whole thread on it in another forum, and its not private.
you can access and download the evo nightlies from it as well, so all the access and no info.

I don't see any harm in an unofficial thread for discussion so as long as no links are provided. This should be in General BTW. The previous thread, I deleted because it was ridden with links, profanity, off topic, flaming, etc...
One other thing, the fact that incubus did release it to the masses does not mean that this was intended for the EVO as well. This is not the first time this has happened and I sure hope that it is the last one.

Others things that all of user must know:
Swapping SD Card is NOT recommended if you don't have 6+ class SD card. It will be slowing down your phone and take a long time to boot and response.
Wonder has 1.4 GHz that means "Super Fast" for android phone. My advice is you didn't need to over clocking it. Because it will cause your GPU have SHORTEN LIFESPAN and SHORTEN BATTERIES LIFE because of the heat (Prepare to buy new one). Please make your mind before over clocking. 1.4 GHz it super fast, all you need is MEMORY MANAGEMENT app or script not OVER CLOCKING. Because this device has lack of Memory management. Try V6 Supercharged script
Do not charge the batteries before it completely DEAD and shutting down itself. You will get long lasting batteries if you only charge it if the phone has no power left.

Evolution X ROM are not good for gaming (for now), because it have no swap support. Some games required additional ram to run smooth on galaxy y.

I'll make a gamers ROM
I want to start a thread about it in Android development section but I can't it tells me that I didn't post 10 threads any one can help :crying: (I'm new here)
I've modified creeds' 3.5 and here's the result :
I tried to add screenshot but I can't :crying: :crying: (It's in the ATTACHMENT )
any way ram usage was only 41% ( 119/290 )
No tweaks no v6 supercharger no thing at all
so until I make it enjoy creeds' 3.5 ROM it's fast & stable just give a try

Well, mohammed, modified roms or roms cooked from others are certainly not appreciated here. You'll face A lot of criticism for that. If you can, make one from pure stock and don't ever think I making creed's as base, he just cries like anything if he sees this.

Well, I asked pratyush.creed to allow me to use his rom as base and asked him to call it " Creeds' 3.5 Gamer's edition " EDIT: He didn't answer yet so I don't think he would cry if he saw this
but after thinking for a while pure stock is a better choise so I could call it what ever I want
I did this because I'm not an android developer ( I'm PC : OS,Programs&Game developer ) so I think ' with XDA members help of course ' I can learn how to make room and with my brain I would make it amazing ( note that I've installed ICS on my PC IT'S HARD!!! to do )
so starting with a pure stock isn't the best idea but after what you said and rethinking it doesn't matter how much will it take but I'll do it :good:
And ICS on SGY is my next project

HOX KITCHEN BIGGINER TUTORIAL (Dsixda Kitchen)
Well, Hi to ALL, I am Yamil (dragonesdenano) Skydragon team.
The idea of this tutorial is to show how to make your first ROM without using others work, no ramdisk, no full rom, just your work and dedication. Why I am doing this? First reason, My Gtalk is overload of people asking /requesting for help, tips, or pushing me to make a tutorial. Also, I did learn reading a lot, not all people help you when you ask about how to cook a rom when you are nobody, others never answer PM, or just ignore you, I felt all of that when I ´ve started here. Maybe they don’t really know or don’t want to share, but thanks God, a few users are wide opened to help when you need or ask for help, I won´t name who is who, obviously, but we know all XDA sides, and we can live with that.
My first tip is “No matter what, if it is your dream, your wish, never give up, you will face times when nobody helps you, when you will be ignored, when kitchen will gives you unflashable zips, when FC is a tattoo in your Rom, errors in recovery, depression, sadness and more…please never give up, keep pushing the limits till you feel a big smile in your face without looking at yourself in the mirror”

3 where I start first?
a- Install Drivers
b- Install java according to Dsixda kitchen
c- Install kitchen Dsixda
d- Unlock Bootloader
e- Flash custom Recovery ClockWorkMod/CWM
f- Make a Nandroid back up of your stock clean Rom ( not necessary for cooking but for saving soft bricks)
I presume you know how to use CMD windows, also you know how to flash ROMS if not, you will need to read Xda guides-
4 Preparations
Once you have the right working drivers, java installed, kitchen installed and Hox unlocked and cwm recovery ON… you will
a- We need to put the Nandroid Back up in the following directory of our PC, but only Boot.img and System.ext4 files
PATH in windows "Computer/Local Disk C:/Cygwin/Home/Papenko/Kitchen/original_update"
Papenko is my user pc name; you will find yours, don´t worry about it

Run Dsixda Kitchen, type “cd kitchen”, ENTER
Then type “./menu”, ENTER
You will get to this menu
Now we are going to select Option 1: Create Working Folder
Kitchen will show available options or files, so far, we will find only Our nandroid Boot.img and systemExt4 files, so we pick up Option 1 again and press ENTER
After that, kitchen will ask if we want to rename Working folder name, I do never, but it is up to you
Now kitchen will start making a Working folder to work with it later
Once kitchen Ends its task, will offer us to look the working folder details
We accept and it looks like this
In the items you can check if the Working folder has root, busybox and so on… or just can skip this info if you know what you are doing
Now we have set up a working folder, our future rom, but we need to keep going, we just have started.
Here will explain all steps I do every time I cook a rom/base, you may find different way, but I can tell what I do or did.
The First thing I do is to Deodex the rom, you know you can use an Odex rom, but for later use, adding Mods will be a pain or impossible sometimes.
In Main kitchen menu we select Option "0 ADVANCED OPTIONS”
In this new menu you have to select Menu Option 11 “DE-ODEX Files in your rom”
The most important thing is to SET UP API LEVEL to 16, so we select option “v” and type “16”, if you let “15” in Api Level, deodexing may cause all kind of bugs. 16 means android version 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
Once you set up Api level to 16, we can start deodexing our rom. You use Option “b” to Deodex system folder and frameworks folder, we need to do it for both folders.
Kitchen will ask if we want to Save a log cat, so we say yes, then Deodexing starts. Now you have to wait till the task is done. Remember this part takes a time.
Kitchen will looks like this
Here you have to pay attention to the deodexing summary, must say 0* apps Odex remain in both folders “system/app” and “system/framework”. If you find one or more files still odexed, you can ran again the deodexing task, or check API LEVEL if its correct or recheck kitchen installation. But most of the time its OK.
Then we Press ENTER and we go back to ADVANCED OPTIONS menu, here we press 0 to go back to main menu.
We are here again
Now we are going to add root and busybox only.
For adding root we select Option 2
In this menu we have different options, I always select SuperSu chainfire, but again it s up to you ( like Patensas always tell me)
Once task is finish, we press ENTER and we will see again MAIN menu, now it s time to add Busybox.
We select OPTION 3 and press ENTER
Here again, when task ends we press ENTER and go back to Main Menu.
From there we must go to ADVANCED MENU option 0.
Now we will add /data/app functionality and /etc/init.d script support
So we select first Option 13, we press ENTER and will find this
Then, we need to use Option 14 to create Init.d functionallity Folder
so we pick up Option 14 , acept when its Done
Again we ENTER, when task is done we will go back to ADVANCED MENU.
Now its time tell the kitchen to make a working script installation.
We select OPTION 17, converting update-script to updater-script
You will see this window, so we always select OPTION 2 (Edify)
Again, When Kitchen ask to procced, we say YES
Let kitchen works. When it s done, kitchen will give you some tips or semi warnings.
Just say ENTER
Ok, be prepared, we are close to our first base rom!!!
Back again to ADVANCED OPTONS menu, no need to be in principal one, as we have the option to make the rom present also here, We select Option 99
Then we will find this options where we need to select OPTION 1, at least today
Kitchen will ask if we want to optimize all apks, we say YES
Process begins
Once it is over , kitchen will ask if we want to sign the Rom, Here and pay attention, WE SAY NO
Finally Kitchen asks about renaming the Rom, you can say yes or no, only will rename zip Rom.
Once we change or not Rom zip name we will find this image in our kitchen windows
Means we have done all the steps to make our first Stock/base Rom, now we are ready to flash it.
Remember to flash boot.img for Htc One X, this will depend on phone model always.
