HOX KITCHEN BIGGINER TUTORIAL (Dsixda Kitchen)
Well, Hi to ALL, I am Yamil (dragonesdenano) Skydragon team.
The idea of this tutorial is to show how to make your first ROM without using others work, no ramdisk, no full rom, just your work and dedication. Why I am doing this? First reason, My Gtalk is overload of people asking /requesting for help, tips, or pushing me to make a tutorial. Also, I did learn reading a lot, not all people help you when you ask about how to cook a rom when you are nobody, others never answer PM, or just ignore you, I felt all of that when I ´ve started here. Maybe they don’t really know or don’t want to share, but thanks God, a few users are wide opened to help when you need or ask for help, I won´t name who is who, obviously, but we know all XDA sides, and we can live with that.
My first tip is “No matter what, if it is your dream, your wish, never give up, you will face times when nobody helps you, when you will be ignored, when kitchen will gives you unflashable zips, when FC is a tattoo in your Rom, errors in recovery, depression, sadness and more…please never give up, keep pushing the limits till you feel a big smile in your face without looking at yourself in the mirror”
Also take a look of the people that managed to cook their first custom Rom using this guide
HALL OF FAME
1 Requirements
HTC One X international with unlocked Bootloader, Clockworkmod/cwm Custom recovery (or an android device, I also cook using an Sg3 and HTC ONE)
Pc with Windows/Ubuntu (I use Windows 7 x64, I can´t help with Ubuntu, but works)
Working PC drivers
Dsixda Kitchen (updated)
A Nandroid Back up Stock CWM (I only use Clockworkmod/CWM recovery)
USB cable for HOX or a working one for it
Time and too much love

I won´t explain how to Set up the Kitchen, but you have in Dsixda ´s thread all necessary information for it, also don’t forget to read Faqs and use in-thread search button for doubts, you won´t fail.

3 where I start first?
a- Install Drivers
b- Install java according to Dsixda kitchen
c- Install kitchen Dsixda
d- Unlock Bootloader
e- Flash custom Recovery ClockWorkMod/CWM
f- Make a Nandroid back up of your stock clean Rom ( not necessary for cooking but for saving soft bricks)
I presume you know how to use CMD windows, also you know how to flash ROMS if not, you will need to read Xda guides-
4 Preparations
Once you have the right working drivers, java installed, kitchen installed and Hox unlocked and cwm recovery ON… you will
a- We need to put the Nandroid Back up in the following directory of our PC, but only Boot.img and System.ext4 files
PATH in windows "Computer/Local Disk C:/Cygwin/Home/Papenko/Kitchen/original_update"
Papenko is my user pc name; you will find yours, don´t worry about it

Run Dsixda Kitchen, type “cd kitchen”, ENTER
Then type “./menu”, ENTER
You will get to this menu
Now we are going to select Option 1: Create Working Folder
Kitchen will show available options or files, so far, we will find only Our nandroid Boot.img and systemExt4 files, so we pick up Option 1 again and press ENTER
After that, kitchen will ask if we want to rename Working folder name, I do never, but it is up to you
Now kitchen will start making a Working folder to work with it later
Once kitchen Ends its task, will offer us to look the working folder details
We accept and it looks like this
In the items you can check if the Working folder has root, busybox and so on… or just can skip this info if you know what you are doing
Now we have set up a working folder, our future rom, but we need to keep going, we just have started.
Here will explain all steps I do every time I cook a rom/base, you may find different way, but I can tell what I do or did.
The First thing I do is to Deodex the rom, you know you can use an Odex rom, but for later use, adding Mods will be a pain or impossible sometimes.
In Main kitchen menu we select Option "0 ADVANCED OPTIONS”
In this new menu you have to select Menu Option 11 “DE-ODEX Files in your rom”
The most important thing is to SET UP API LEVEL to 16, so we select option “v” and type “16”, if you let “15” in Api Level, deodexing may cause all kind of bugs. 16 means android version 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
Once you set up Api level to 16, we can start deodexing our rom. You use Option “b” to Deodex system folder and frameworks folder, we need to do it for both folders.
Kitchen will ask if we want to Save a log cat, so we say yes, then Deodexing starts. Now you have to wait till the task is done. Remember this part takes a time.
Kitchen will looks like this
Here you have to pay attention to the deodexing summary, must say 0* apps Odex remain in both folders “system/app” and “system/framework”. If you find one or more files still odexed, you can ran again the deodexing task, or check API LEVEL if its correct or recheck kitchen installation. But most of the time its OK.
Then we Press ENTER and we go back to ADVANCED OPTIONS menu, here we press 0 to go back to main menu.
We are here again
Now we are going to add root and busybox only.
For adding root we select Option 2
In this menu we have different options, I always select SuperSu chainfire, but again it s up to you ( like Patensas always tell me)
Once task is finish, we press ENTER and we will see again MAIN menu, now it s time to add Busybox.
We select OPTION 3 and press ENTER
Here again, when task ends we press ENTER and go back to Main Menu.
From there we must go to ADVANCED MENU option 0.
Now we will add /data/app functionality and /etc/init.d script support
So we select first Option 13, we press ENTER and will find this
Then, we need to use Option 14 to create Init.d functionallity Folder
so we pick up Option 14 , acept when its Done
Again we ENTER, when task is done we will go back to ADVANCED MENU.
Now its time tell the kitchen to make a working script installation.
We select OPTION 17, converting update-script to updater-script
You will see this window, so we always select OPTION 2 (Edify)
Again, When Kitchen ask to procced, we say YES
Let kitchen works. When it s done, kitchen will give you some tips or semi warnings.
Just say ENTER
Ok, be prepared, we are close to our first base rom!!!
Back again to ADVANCED OPTONS menu, no need to be in principal one, as we have the option to make the rom present also here, We select Option 99
Then we will find this options where we need to select OPTION 1, at least today
Kitchen will ask if we want to optimize all apks, we say YES
Process begins
Once it is over , kitchen will ask if we want to sign the Rom, Here and pay attention, WE SAY NO
Finally Kitchen asks about renaming the Rom, you can say yes or no, only will rename zip Rom.
Once we change or not Rom zip name we will find this image in our kitchen windows
Means we have done all the steps to make our first Stock/base Rom, now we are ready to flash it.
Remember to flash boot.img for Htc One X, this will depend on phone model always.

Cooking My 1st Rom (Experts plzzzz have a look :o)

hey everyone
i'm trying to build my first rom, not sure what i am doing but still trying
i would like to list what i've done, and i would love if Dev's could confirm/correct what i've done.
So this is my status :
** Env: winxp & VMware (linux ubuntu 10.11)
1- Kitchen : dsixda-Android-Kitchen-0.188-0-ge5d2a45
url: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
2- Rom : Pre-rooted Stock Gingerbread (3.14.405.1)
url: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200261
3- using Kernel Gingercakes0.9cfs_2way_HAVS
url: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254272
- extracted current Rom's Kernel (using kitchen), replaced zImage, then re-packed boot.img,
also replaced bcm4329.ko at /system/lib/modules with the one in the Kernel's update zip file.
4- added ext4 support (the Mod was at the rom thread)
- by adding the lib/modules files & the init.d/00ext4 file
5- deodexed both /system/app & /system/framework : using the kitchen menu.
6- added NANO editor : using the kitchen menu.
7- custom bootanimation functionality (/data/local) : using kitchen menu.
8- zipaligned apk files under /system/app : using kitchen menu.
i will continue adding mods and so, but i need someone -please- to confirm or correct my steps
one major thing i am not sure about is that i can use the gingercackes kernel with a bravo rom?
i mean not a ported Rom from Ace.
also there was more than one update package for kernel to use, i picked cfs_2way_HAVS as a test
there were more like SVS and so.. what is the diferences -short words will be good -
any help will be gratfuly appreciated.
thanks.

build , customize , or adding options ...
i am not claiming it for me, as i mentioned all URLs i used

i was really happy when i saw a reply to my thread, but really got surprised when i red it.
just like a pull-back
even you did not answer any question ...
thanks .
Sorry, not meant to be a dig. You just select what options you want and select build. If you can press buttons on a keyboard, you're doing it right. It can't be simpler. There is literally no advice to give.

- maybe adding the extended power menu.

Make it close to the looks of Sense 4.0 !
this is only my advice. you can ignore it if you want.
developing a rom is different with cook a rom. a real rom developoer will never ask another dev to make a base rom for them. they will use a stock rom or use the source to create their own rom. I can understand that you have different high enthusiasm to develop a rom, but the path you've choose is not the right one if you want to be a great dev. I'm afraid you'll ashamed your name if you continue like this. if you don't know how to create a base rom or another stuff needed to build a rom, take your time to learn all those stuff. you can come back later if you're ready with your rom.
Ok, I cleaned up some of the comments here.
Please discontinue the name-calling and keep things civil.
Thank you.

well...I don't have any idea what happened here since I left this forum last morning.
@astrul: you can follow this step to get a stock base rom
1. create a backup of your stock rom via CWM.
2. go to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/<backup folder name>
3. copy system.rfs.tar inside your backup folder to your computer.
4. extract a custom rom. go to /system
5. delete everything inside except /system/bin and /system/bin
6. go to your system.rfs.tar, extract it.
7. go copy everything inside system folder to the extracted custom rom except /system/bin and /system/bin.
8. done
this step will create a stock rom with a2sd darktremor binary file inside it.

Bootanimations

Hello everyone after seeing newgolgotha thread on his Zombie bootanimation ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057289), it kinda got me craving into making Bootanimations, I used to do it for a MUCH MUCH older device and i decided to dust off and start making them again.
Although there's little risk of anything going wrong with this I MUST SAY I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HAPPENED TO YOUR DEVICE read and then read some more and if u still unsure then just click back.
I Tested all my bootanimations before I put'em out, so I know they work.
Some I made other's I will link to their proper owners

This last one belongs to Crackanug here's the link to his thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041939 where u can download the bootanimation make sure u thank him if u decided to use his bootanimation which is by the way super awesome
THESE ARE NOT FLASHABLE ZIPS These MUST BE Place manually into their correct folders.
ALSO I'VE USED THIS ONLY ON ZETTAJOULE ROM but i'm pretty sure it will work on any AOSP rom, not sure if it will work on every Stock base Roms so if it does please post what Rom u got this to work.
so here's what u have to do, I'm going to try to be as clear as possible and as noob friendly as possible:
1.- Download zip and rename it "bootanimation.zip" (without quotations) it very important u rename it and AFAIK is case sensitive so make sure u write it as I did
1.- I guess u if u trying this is becuse you are rooted... so just to avoid anyone asking YOU NEED TO BE ROOTED
2.- You're going to need a root explorer ( I prefer and use ES File Explorer)
2a- Go to settings and enable root explorer, Up Root, Mount File System as Writable
3.-Go to your root folder and then select /system/media there should be a zip there named "bootanimation.zip" in there u can copy that one into your sdcard if u ever want to go back you're old bootanimation.
4.- Now take the new bootanimation.zip and place it in the same folder where u took the old one /system/media.
5.- Reboot and enjoy your new bootanimation!!!
in case u run into a "black screen" when booting instead of the boot animation please check that the following permissions are selected and it should fix your problem:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

What Rom are u using? kernel? look for a .zip file named "bootanimation.zip". if u don't have it that means it's not supported.. if u are using a stock base Rom u might have to flash this first:

after that is done come back here and follow the instructions.

it should work on any rom that supports bootanimation.zip, I think most (if not all) AOSP Roms (aokp,CM,PA, ETC) supports them best way to find out go to /system/media and look for the zip see screen shot on post above.
Sorry I cant be of more assistance but I don't know what are the differences are between international and T-Mobile's.
ok if you go to this thread by smokin1337 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064019 and follow his instructions on how to flash bootanimation4u.zip it will allow you to put a custom bootanimation on any rom including stock.im on stock and have factory kernel and can change my boot animation with this.then after you can come here follow the op instruction and place any bootanimation he has here in system/media but you have to raname the file 'bootanimation.zip' and it will work.

Thanks guys for answering the question. I have followed the instructions attached and been able to change the bootanimation successfully.
Unfortunately when it comes to change to the "DCbootanimation" which I think is amazing, the phone's screen remains black.
Questions :
Do you resize the file after installing? What is the frames per second you are using? It was defaulted to 13.
I have renamed the file and installed it from "local".
Thanks in advanced.

The way I uploaded the bootanimations that's the way I got them working on my phone, I will double check the file and I will see if I can find the problem... u can resize if u choose to but don't go any higher cuz that our screen "resolution" u can go smaller but the boot animation will as well look smaller when it boots... and the FPS well u can change it as well if u choose same as with the resolution higher = faster and lower=slower so you might end up with no so good results. I will try to get back at u tonite hopefully with a solution if not please gimme til tomorrow... but I will resolve ur issue and I'll have u enjoying ur new bootani.
update: hey I ran into a little problem with the DCBootani as well, but it's an easy fix please verify that the bootanimation.zip permission are as follow:
I got it to play like this if u still have problems please tell me what Rom are u using and if applicable what kernel. Thanks for trying my bootanimations!!
PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO CLICK THE THANKS BUTTON!!

[HOW TO] Deodexing the note2 international version

EDIT* After trying for so much on learning how to deodex a rom I finally found the way to do it. I take NO credit for what I'm going to post. i Found this tutorial browsing and searching online for a while and thanks to WANAM for telling me he uses dsinxda to deodex his roms. and DSIXDA for making the tool. Im just going to post the steps I did in order to get my stock rom deodexed. If I make a mistake or use wrong any term please forgive me I'm learning as you are. I just want to help you guys to be able to deodex your rom. I'M NOT GOING TO POST DOWNLOAD LINKS, JUST THE THREADS WHERE YOU NEED TO GO AND DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING FOR YOURSELF. (This to avoid issues with OP of other threads)
DOWNLOAD YOUR STOCK ROM IN A FORMAT TO BE FLASHED BY ODIN. GO TO http://sammobile.com and download your rom. After you have it REMOVE the .md5 at the end. Leave it as .tar
First of all you need to have java, android SDK installed and adb. for this FIRST OF ALL go here and follow the steps
STEP 1 http://www.support-4-you.com/main/i...d-adb-installation&catid=40:how-tos&Itemid=57
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/downloading-and-installing-the-java-development-ki.html
Afterwards go here and read a little bit. It will give you an overall of what you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1939300 (Yeah I now is for the s3 BUT BELIEVE ME IT WORKS) leave it open just in case.
then visit this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246 and READ IT!
-Download the kitchen and afterward go to post number 3 to install it, I used the option number one for windows 7. i downloaded dsixda_cygwin_install.zip. If you have other operating system I honestly don't know how to do it.
Also click where it says ''RECOMMENDED: Click here for a pictorial guide to assist you with the Cygwin install (thanks to carl1961).'', it will give you a tutorial on how to install the kitchen. Be patient. sometimes you make the steps and it seems is not doing anything, but its working it's just slow.
follow that pic guide on how to install and when you're setting up your rom when it opens the ext2explore tool you dont see your system.img close the kitchen and delete the working folder and start again setting it up and it will work. (at least for me, the 1st time i had no ext4_system.img, the second time I did)
VERY IMPORTANT. After you extract the system, EXTRACT THE CSC If not your rom WON'T WORK.
(Diskinternals linux reader is found on the kitchen folder, then tools. FYI)
ok. after you have Installed the kitchen and the working folder is ready
go to the working folder and delete ext4_system.img from system folder if there is any. Then
-Choose option 0- Advanced Options
-Then choose option 11 Deodex files in your rom
-Then ''bb'' IF YOU WANT
-Then ''v'' and set android level to 16
-then option ''b'' and sit back and wait.
-Then option ''x'' when it's done
-Choose option 99 and follow the steps. remember to zipalign the apps and sign your rom, then change the name of the rom if you want.
- I did not rooted my rom. i use the method 2 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696 to root it aftwerwards. :fingers-crossed:
FINAL STEP! MANDATORY! PLEASE PRESS THANKS IF THIS POST HELPED YOU! :good: :victory: :highfive:
Then copy the rom to your external sd and wipe data, cache , dalvik and go to mount and storage and format system.
go back and flash rom from external sd.
 there you go, your deodexed rom! :fingers-crossed:
I hope this have been helpfull
Hi I have a stick rom that is deodexed and I use this works like a charm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953705
Hope it helps

Hi mates!
I want to share with you a couple of simple but useful scripts.
Recently, a member asked for help because his young cousin had locked his device when trying to unlock it. As you know there is a way to avoid it, it's doing DATA/FACTORY RESET via recovery... the only problem is that doing this process ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE DELETED and it's really annoying so I created a simple script to avoid this trouble
I created a flashable zip as always
IMPORTANT
This script has been created just to help people, not to harm them!
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR MISUSE/FOR IMPROPER USE YOU CAN GIVE THIS SCRIPT. SOLE RESPONSIBILITY LIES WITH THE USER WHICH USES THIS SCRIPT IMPROPERLY.
USES
You can use it if you forget the password or lock pattern to unlock your phone.
If your child or someone without conscience locks your device by mistake.
REQUIREMENTS
Root
CWM
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download the correct file.
2. Boot into recovery.
3. Install from sdcard and flash it.
4. Done!, reboot system now.
5. Now you can go to settings and set new type of lock
HELLYEAH!

Yes it should work because the pattern or password file is saved at the same path in android devices (at least in Samsung devices that I know ....) , but you can do a backup first (just in case) if you want to try it and report then
Good job.

LOL!! I was already crazy before
What really gets on my nerves is the Barcelona's shield xD ...but hey everyone has a taste for a team
...AHAM. my flashable zip files are easier to use than this method even you don't need to manage any kind of file (It's really dangerous if you are a noob and you don't know what are you touching )
I think my flashable zips might work without root too, but I didn't test it. It contains a simple lines that don't require the full installation of Buxybox, so it should work
