Not proud to say I was an early member of that club. I was brickin before brickin was cool
Same here. I bricked mine back when CM9 was just starting out. I knew better but still did it anyways. Best advice I can give. Always Odin to EL29 before flashing any ICS or JB build. When I say Odin I mean a full stock build. And use a GB CWM. I've never bricked using that method.

I was worse than all of you. About 3 weeks to a month ago, I first flashed Cwm Touch, then tried to do a full wipe and flash down to GB from an ICS Rom and Kernel. I then ended up hard bricking by chance, as I tried to flash Stock El26 after that not knowing why it wouldn't boot, and then when odin froze up because of the emmc bug, my computer locked up as-well >.< .... So I had to pull the battery, and that was the last time that screen ever turned on. lol. My phone has a very, very pretty blue light of death though!
I ended up purchasing a new one.
Lol you guys too I bricked liked 2 months ago, I had AOKP build 35. I forgot to wipe and on top of that I tried to put the blazer ROM over it.

I was one of the first I believe... back in February before we even realized what was happening. A couple of us were just getting stuck at Data.img when Odining and nothing could fix it
well.. good news is that its fixed. I've successfully flashed TW ics ROM to another TW ics ROM using agat's kernel/recovery. Took me a few minutes to sum up the courage to do a full wipe... Haha

tried flashing the ics kernel on my dads galaxy s 2. in odin it froze at setupconnection for a good 10 mins, so i turned the phone off and got a black screen.
plugged the phone in and i got QHSD something_DLOAD because there was a missing driver, i found the driver and installed it (quantum high speed download) and tried to reflash my phone with no prevail. (stuck at setupconnection again)
any idea how to fix this?
That's a hard brick, get a jtag or contact Samsung.
And what where you even trying to flash? ICS kernel? Huh? Lol

well its over now : ( so your options are a warranty replacement which is easier in my opinion, or you can use the jtag service which is very awesome but dont know if they support the t989 yet and it takes about ten days total time to get the device back in your possession
I just traded my Evo 3d for an E4GT and this phone is beautiful. Going from an Evo 4G to the 3d left me wanting more screen real estate and that's exactly what you get with the E4GT
Anyway, I've been reading/searching all weekend and things seem to be a little more complicated than HTC flashing. My E4GT is running stock 2.3.6 (EL29) and Rogue ET Recovery 1.1.2 (CWM v5.0.2.7). I'd like to flash to MIUI, even the non ICS version, which I'm told is easy (wipe and flash), but I've also been told going back to stock is what's difficult. Is it as simple as doing a nandroid restore or is it more complex than that. Also, I'm wondering if I should stick with my current recovery or flash to something else. I'd love to have ICS when its a bit more functional, but I'm patient enough to let the Devs work out most of the kinks. Lastly, does the E4GT have the ability to handle Apps2sd using Link2sd with ext3 via the internal storage? Thanks in advance, and I love this phone!!!
getting back to stock isn't hard at all. simply use the one-click Odin exe found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 once you're back on stock reflash recovery then you can restore your EL29 nandroid.
welcome !!!
going back to stock it's as easy as pushing a pit file and a pda file through odin. Just a heads up keep odin, the pit file and, and the pda file on a computer at all times. A few things I have flashed bricked my phone and cwm didn't work so I pushed those files and I was ready to go. It just makes things easier cause bricking this phone is so easy to fix.

If you're not using an ICS rom you should be fine with restoring a backup in cmw. I would recommend looking up qbking77 on youtube, he has great videos for this phone.

I really dig the phone over the Evo3D.... You should love it!
I've flashed a few, staying away from ICS for now, too many horror stories. If you REALLY brick it, there is a service I would employ:
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-epic-4g-touch-jtag-brick-repair/
The Odin information is a GREAT idea too.
Good luck, have fun!!!!
I'm beyond digging the phone over the 3vo lol. I'm actually considering getting rid of my tablets (TF101 & Touchpad), but we'll see. Thanks for the link to the repair info monkeybone12
I'll give you$100 for the touchpad right now...

For what its worth, I'm not a hard core flasher but have flashed a couple dozen ROMs between the EVO and E4GT. Several have been ICS ROMs and it's been smooth sailing. If you do decide to go to ICS I recommend MIJJz's "Goodness" Blend.
I know there's a lot of us out there that suffer from this problem, but many are afraid to admit it. Flashaholicism effects 3 out of every 4 persons that own an Epic 4G Touch.
THIS IS A SERIOUS DISEASE.
Main causes of this disease seem to be coming from the development forum..
I have suffered from this disease my self.. I just couldn't stop flashing.. I spent days at a time just flashing away. My parents tried to admit me to recovery but I told them I spent most of my time in it actually..
So for those of you that suffer, I have created a thread so you can admit your problem here and get help from former flashaholics like myself. Please don't be shy! We are here to help!!
All information submitted will be kept 100% anonymous!
Thanks SanityBroken for this life-saving idea!

I used my upgrade from my Nexus S 4g and decided to come over the the S2 on Sprint. I intend to play with this phone till my wife upgrade is in August which she will take the S2 in hopes that I will get the S3 by then.
Been reading up on these posts on here and I think I got it but wanted to make sure.
1. I need to Odin to get root with el29?
2. Never flash, wipe, reset data in ICS CWM?
3. Is it me or are there no Kernels like AirKernel for this phone?
4. I plan to go with CNA as I had on my Nexus. Love that rom anything you would like to share about this rom?
Any advice on the questions would be great and to be honest I really only post here and there but I'm always on here. Been here since the release of the Evo 4G.
Thanks.
Thanks and it awesome to be a part of the S2 community. WOW.
Really feels welcome here......

Wow, congrats to the E4GT community. You just enrolled another winner to the team.
How come no one rolled out the red carpet within the first few hours of this thread?
Glad I moved onto another phone, you guys really suck here
OP, you should get a GN. After my first post there, I was sent a 4 course meal from my favorite restaurant.
xda same as always...
Stoked to be here though.
Sort of asking for help, those are things that I've read up on. Just kind of a ice breaker more then anything.
Welcome to the party and congrats on the new phone.
The only question I can answer is #1, which is yes, to get an easy start just Odin sfhub's one-click EL29 for root, then read, read, read in the development section for all the goodies available.
Happy flashing and remember, if you brick your phone it's all on you.
1. I rooted just fine without Odin.
2. Yes it's also recommended you do that with most roms overall to avoid technical difficulties later on.
3. Idk what airkernel is, but there seems to be a limited choice if kernels for ginger.
4. CNA? Don't think I've seen a ROM called that around here but what do I know? I'm just a newbie...

You just have to have thicker skin over here, people may seem a little harsh at times (me included) but at the core of their comments you typically find the truth you needed. If you read around enough you'll see there are a lot of good people in this community. I'd suggest you start with the thread below to see what I mean.

Most important of all, just follow the #1 rule of thumb for the internet, don't take things personally and you'll be just fine.
Oh, also, don't expect anyone here to a)kiss your butt (well maybe iSaint j/k lol), b)hold your hand or c)pat you on your wee little noggin when you f*ck up because you didn't read and ended up bricking your phone. That is all.
Everybody moved to the Evo One. This place is a ghost town now.

Coming from a Evo then a Nexus S 4G I can't believe the trouble ones has to go through flashing roms that are ICS.
Odin is easy so that is nice but still. Seems like a lot of effort.
This phone is sweet. I just got to wait till I actually have time from work, kids and family so I can sit down and root this think and flash away.
Excited.
I can honestly say if it weren't for Odin and sfhub's one-click goodies I would probably still just be an observer on this forum. But he made it easy and then I learned to flash recovery and in doing so was able to start flashing Calkulin's custom ROMs. Although that's as far as I've gotten for now it's a long way from where I began and I'm excited for what's around the corner.

Once the source is released and official ota's are out im sure all the kinks will be ironed out. Development for ICS is still early for this phone. Using Odin isnt that bad, you can still flash a rom in about five minutes.

It may seem a bit overwhelming at first but it really is incredibly easy. Just make sure your CWM is stock (just flash CM7 or GB Miui), and then you should have no issues flashing ICS.
mobile Odin is your friend guys. as quick as a reboot.

ics roms suck atm imo....way too many issues. i've always been flash happy since my g1 days. but pick just about any 2.3 rom and you shouldn't really have problems. don't know if you've seen it but have you used the superwipe by tdj? good to have http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
personally, i think eugene's done great work on the cm7 rom. he's supposed to release another update today(?). i think what he did with Juggernaut was excellent as well. tdj does good stuff, as well as the tuesday roms by master&slave.
Yea I used the super wipe....and also like I said my phone doesn't like different modems dis alot of reading tried all the little tricks..... seems I'd I do into Odin mode...let Odin recognize it then reboot without unplugging then manually pick T-Mobile as the network ....it will work about 25% of the time lol

hey man, a while ago i had problem with flashing rom too, what i did was re-do the whole process (flash back to start using odin and root from there) and everything fix. try that.
