I try to install roms.....I came from the sprint gs2......flashed a new rom almost daily lol.......this phone just doesn't want to take it.....boot loops.....every time I reboot it takes me about an hour to get signal back on any modem I try :S......OK I am done *****ing.....fyi I am on dark side with the blaze modem.....tried blackened ics..... no luck.....boot loops .....and yes I wiped and wiped again and again and again lol.....this ass is clean lol

ics roms suck atm imo....way too many issues. i've always been flash happy since my g1 days. but pick just about any 2.3 rom and you shouldn't really have problems. don't know if you've seen it but have you used the superwipe by tdj? good to have http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
personally, i think eugene's done great work on the cm7 rom. he's supposed to release another update today(?). i think what he did with Juggernaut was excellent as well. tdj does good stuff, as well as the tuesday roms by master&slave.

Yea I used the super wipe....and also like I said my phone doesn't like different modems dis alot of reading tried all the little tricks..... seems I'd I do into Odin mode...let Odin recognize it then reboot without unplugging then manually pick T-Mobile as the network ....it will work about 25% of the time lol

Woo hoo.....got myself some ICS

I used darkside's superwipe and M&S's kernel cleanser, that helped me when I couldn't get ICS on my device.

hey man, a while ago i had problem with flashing rom too, what i did was re-do the whole process (flash back to start using odin and root from there) and everything fix. try that.

It's a ROM. You can find it in the Dev section if you scroll down far enough. It's based off 2.35 and looks like ics. It's stable and fast. Someone else installed it on my phone. I didn't look for a new ROM til about a week ago.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It really does depend on your preferences. If you don't want wifi calling there is not a whole lot of difference yet. It is not like the hd2 days where there were several completely different fully functional builds to choose from and several flavors of each. Things are just beginning for the SGS2.

I been using stock rooted, but every time I flash a custom rom I end up dealing with some really annoying bugs. I also hate the fact that every time I flash a custom rom I need to setup my exchange & yahoo email again and again. any easy ways of doing this with having to set up and install every single app I use? (I usually use titanium backup)

There is an easy way... just use gmail.... just joking..
I am in the same boat. I use 2 accounts on 2 different Exchange servers so I have to setup Touchdown every time I on install a new ROM. And I have 4 Android devices I use daily and have wiped each of them at least once this year.. I wish touchdown had a save configuration to sd card option..
I also have been wanting to install a custom rom on my s2 but keep hoping a 4.0 ICS will come out. I have it on my Asus Prime and Tab and would really like to try it on a phone..
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
The phone resetup does stink. The only way to know for sure that you are not causing your own bugs is to wipe flash the new rom and then re-setup the apps and accounts. I have had issues restoring my settings through titanium as well so I usually just redo it all manually. It is very disappointing when I get through that entire process only to find a bug I can't live with.
On the bright side I am really good at reentering my account settings, and I have greatly reduced the number of unused apps I have installed.

New to E4GT

I just traded my Evo 3d for an E4GT and this phone is beautiful. Going from an Evo 4G to the 3d left me wanting more screen real estate and that's exactly what you get with the E4GT
Anyway, I've been reading/searching all weekend and things seem to be a little more complicated than HTC flashing. My E4GT is running stock 2.3.6 (EL29) and Rogue ET Recovery 1.1.2 (CWM v5.0.2.7). I'd like to flash to MIUI, even the non ICS version, which I'm told is easy (wipe and flash), but I've also been told going back to stock is what's difficult. Is it as simple as doing a nandroid restore or is it more complex than that. Also, I'm wondering if I should stick with my current recovery or flash to something else. I'd love to have ICS when its a bit more functional, but I'm patient enough to let the Devs work out most of the kinks. Lastly, does the E4GT have the ability to handle Apps2sd using Link2sd with ext3 via the internal storage? Thanks in advance, and I love this phone!!!
getting back to stock isn't hard at all. simply use the one-click Odin exe found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 once you're back on stock reflash recovery then you can restore your EL29 nandroid.
welcome !!!
going back to stock it's as easy as pushing a pit file and a pda file through odin. Just a heads up keep odin, the pit file and, and the pda file on a computer at all times. A few things I have flashed bricked my phone and cwm didn't work so I pushed those files and I was ready to go. It just makes things easier cause bricking this phone is so easy to fix.

For what its worth, I'm not a hard core flasher but have flashed a couple dozen ROMs between the EVO and E4GT. Several have been ICS ROMs and it's been smooth sailing. If you do decide to go to ICS I recommend MIJJz's "Goodness" Blend.

Thats the case with my phone, try different versions of the rooted rom, or radios.

THanks. upon reading a bit of that thread, I found out that through using "GPS Status" I can refresh the "A-GPS" which I didn't know previously.
This seems to work so far.
I'm running the same rom and have no problems with any of my radios, I did also install the EL29 modem when I installed the rom. You may need to try different modems, they work differently on different phones even though you're running the same roms. Also, don't forget to update profile in /settings/about phone/updates

Update if anyone's interested: FB21 modem w/ EL29 Kernel was good but still had GPS locking issues. I was getting roughly 85% locks (which isn't bad since I test often). FAST download speeds though.
So this got me thinking: When my phone was stock, GPS worked brilliantly. It wasn't until I installed a custom rom that it started to have problems. The difference was the kernel and modems.
So now I flashed back to EK02 modem and kernel (still running Calks 2.9.2) and my GPS has been locking 100% of the time. PLUS my phone is silky smoooooth!
Crossing my fingers that this will last....

Gps issues

I'm currently running blazer 4.1 with fc07 modem and gunslinger kernel. No matter what Rom I use, gb or ics, as well as testing with different modems, my gps will lock the first couple times but after coming out of a long sleep it won't lock at all. I've tried gps status with no luck, as well as tried the el29 gps fix when I was running that modem. The only thing that seems to work is booting into recovery and clearing cache and dalvik. This will get my gps to lock until my phone goes into another long sleep, then back to nothing. Does anyone know of any other fixes I could try?
Sent from my Blazing fast Epic 4G Touch
Have you cleared AGPS? Also try using a different kernel.
I've tried every combination of everything. I just reboot and that never fails to work. A little annoying, but, no big deal.
I figured it was just a bug in the ICS leaks. Mine also does the same.
Yes, I've reset agps and downloaded through gps status but nothing helps. I'll try a different kernel next, but even when I was on the ics roms and using the stock kernels it would do the same thing.

I had gps lock issues too, but after trying most modems I found one that doesn't seem to have any problems. Make sure you update your profile and prl after flashing modems /kernels

Never had a problem with a lock on any GB Roms with any kernel or Modem...Ever since I flashed ICS Roms tho...is when it started...None of the (GPS) programs to improve locking would work...The last two leaks for ICS which would be FC06 and FCO7 I've been gettin locks...So its not a hardware problem...One sure way to get it to work is to restore a GB Rom with EL29 get a lock leave GPS Open boot into Recovery and restore a Nandroid Backup for the ICS Rom you were on...Open GPS and you will lock... this worked every time...But now since the last two leaks of the two previous ones I mentioned I haven't had a problem...So its either the Modem or the Kernel...I expect the Modem...The problem is on here a lot of people haven't had locking issues with GPS whether they are on ICS or GB...(Go Figure...)

My GPS worked at one time, but not at all since ICS, and MAYBE the last two revisions of GB. Tried every trick in the book, even goong back to old modems. Hoping this is addressed on software soon, or I may turn the phone in. Not a dealbreaker, but a huge PITA, I do use it somewhat often. Then there's the principle of a defective product.

After doing a full wipe and install of the stock rooted el29 tar, I finally got gps to lock successfully multiple times. I left gps locked and flashed blazer 4.1 and all is still good. Do you think its safe to do an advanced restore of data in recovery or should I just restore everything manually?

Samsung Galaxy S2 T-Mobile ROM

OK I am a noob I rooted and installed CMW on my phone. Then I tried the ICS port and I loved it except it didn't have wi-fi calling. Then I tried [ROM] T989 || Stock || Bloat Free || Rooted || Su || Busybox = STREAMLINED V2 by teshxx. With this ROM my phone makes the T-Mobile boot sound and then I just get a black screen. Maybe it is a bad download. Or your phone for whatever reason doesn't like that rom

Hello. This is just my opinion. First try to dowload other rom using ur pc. Dowloads work better on pc. If u cant then dowload to ur phone using wifi...not ur phone data package. U looking for a rom with wifi calling..i like that too. U can try Juggernaut...last version. It is in my opinion one of the best and complete GB roms available for our device. U can just wipe data a couple times and cache if u are coming from a gb rom. If ur coming from ICS u better use super wipe. In both situations u can use kernel cleanser before flashing the rom.
I hope this helps and dont forget to read and read and read. Its just necessary. Good luck. And be careful flashing....things happens to any one. Noob or not.
Ps. Juggernaut has wifi calling and works like a charm. but theres a couple very good roms tha has it and works fine as well.

The"official"release date is said to be late may but I think its going to be something like June or so, and as far as the ics leaks are concerned, I'm using perfection II as my daily driver with the v6 supercharger script and my battery life is great.I don't like or use the wifi calling so that doesn't bother me so much.
