Samsung Galaxy S2 T-Mobile ROM - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

OK I am a noob I rooted and installed CMW on my phone. Then I tried the ICS port and I loved it except it didn't have wi-fi calling. Then I tried [ROM] T989 || Stock || Bloat Free || Rooted || Su || Busybox = STREAMLINED V2 by teshxx. With this ROM my phone makes the T-Mobile boot sound and then I just get a black screen. I can flash other roms but I want the wi-fi calling feature back.

What are you asking

I know how to do flashing, I have done many before.
This is a brand new phone and my second time flashing it.
After booting into CWM, I installed in this order:
Darkside Super Wipe EXT4
Kernel Cleanser
Streamlined_2.0_T989_by_Teshxx
When booting into this rom, after a half hour now I just have a black screen.
I want to know what I did wrong.

Thank you very much though I don't need that, I know how to flash another rom and I did for now. I just want to know why the one I wanted to use didn't work.

Maybe it is a bad download. Or your phone for whatever reason doesn't like that rom
"The problem with quotes on the internet is you cannot validate them." -Abraham Lincoln

Hello. This is just my opinion. First try to dowload other rom using ur pc. Dowloads work better on pc. If u cant then dowload to ur phone using wifi...not ur phone data package. U looking for a rom with wifi calling..i like that too. U can try Juggernaut...last version. It is in my opinion one of the best and complete GB roms available for our device. U can just wipe data a couple times and cache if u are coming from a gb rom. If ur coming from ICS u better use super wipe. In both situations u can use kernel cleanser before flashing the rom.
I hope this helps and dont forget to read and read and read. Its just necessary. Good luck. And be careful flashing....things happens to any one. Noob or not.
Ps. Juggernaut has wifi calling and works like a charm. but theres a couple very good roms tha has it and works fine as well.

Hit both parts of my siggy. You get wifi calling and unparalleled battery life. Cheers.

Ok everybody I decided to try Juggernaut and I really like the mms/sms/calling over wifi really saves battery too. I'm going to try the two in your sig also, iLeopard. Anygood ics ROMs that have mms/wifi calling and auto rotation ?

Stay away from ICS right for now, they are highly unstable (many issues), no wifi calling and horrible battery life. Just wait for an official ICS release

The"official"release date is said to be late may but I think its going to be something like June or so, and as far as the ics leaks are concerned, I'm using perfection II as my daily driver with the v6 supercharger script and my battery life is great.I don't like or use the wifi calling so that doesn't bother me so much. But all in all its a great dd for me.

It's a ROM. You can find it in the Dev section if you scroll down far enough. It's based off 2.35 and looks like ics. It's stable and fast. Someone else installed it on my phone. I didn't look for a new ROM til about a week ago.

It really does depend on your preferences. If you don't want wifi calling there is not a whole lot of difference yet. It is not like the hd2 days where there were several completely different fully functional builds to choose from and several flavors of each. Things are just beginning for the SGS2.

I been using stock rooted, but every time I flash a custom rom I end up dealing with some really annoying bugs. I also hate the fact that every time I flash a custom rom I need to setup my exchange & yahoo email again and again. any easy ways of doing this with having to set up and install every single app I use? (I usually use titanium backup)

I am in the same boat. I use 2 accounts on 2 different Exchange servers so I have to setup Touchdown every time I on install a new ROM. And I have 4 Android devices I use daily and have wiped each of them at least once this year.. I wish touchdown had a save configuration to sd card option..
I also have been wanting to install a custom rom on my s2 but keep hoping a 4.0 ICS will come out. I have it on my Asus Prime and Tab and would really like to try it on a phone..

The phone resetup does stink. The only way to know for sure that you are not causing your own bugs is to wipe flash the new rom and then re-setup the apps and accounts. I have had issues restoring my settings through titanium as well so I usually just redo it all manually. It is very disappointing when I get through that entire process only to find a bug I can't live with.
On the bright side I am really good at reentering my account settings, and I have greatly reduced the number of unused apps I have installed.

ics roms suck atm imo....way too many issues. i've always been flash happy since my g1 days. but pick just about any 2.3 rom and you shouldn't really have problems. don't know if you've seen it but have you used the superwipe by tdj? good to have http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
personally, i think eugene's done great work on the cm7 rom. he's supposed to release another update today(?). i think what he did with Juggernaut was excellent as well. tdj does good stuff, as well as the tuesday roms by master&slave.
Yea I used the super wipe....and also like I said my phone doesn't like different modems dis alot of reading tried all the little tricks..... seems I'd I do into Odin mode...let Odin recognize it then reboot without unplugging then manually pick T-Mobile as the network ....it will work about 25% of the time lol

If you want/need wifi calling, Darkside Evolution with one of TDJ's kernels and eugene's CUP sleeper app is light years better than stock in terms of smoothness, battery life, and the ability to customize.

Try Samsung's fix. Open Gmail app with the acct linked to your phone. Send an email with a pic attached to yourself via Wi-Fi. You should get it right away. Now try and send an mms to yourself. If you don't get it, turn Wi-Fi off, then data off, and Wi-Fi back on and try again. This has worked for me several times.

Your reply wasn't needed, Your ass didn't have to even open the post. Move right along!
I'm far from a noob, Thank you very much.
I knew aopk and cm9 roms don't support wifi calling, I'm sure even a noob would know that. you pretty much told me something I already knew that's why I kindly asked about the wifi calling app you were talking about. One question makes me a noob, funny. I'm sure you asked more questions, wouldn't that make you a noob too? Ha, I don't need why some people have to be so rude, keep your comment to yourself. Sorry for having a life!
It really depends on what you're wanting out of your device. If you're an average user who really has no intentions on modifying your phone and only wants stability, then stock is always a good choice. Even with stock, you still have options. You can root stock, remove the bloatware, and if you choose, flash a modified kernel on top for some additional performance and battery life. There are some really solid custom roms out there, but there are also a lot of buggy roms that will cause you more issues than you're probably prepared to deal with. If you're new to the android modification world, I suggest browsing some of these threads and doing some research to get a feel for everything. Start with the basics and work up. Learn to root, learn to flash, backup/restore (very important!). Luckily there is a lot of support in these forums so an answer will always be there.
EDIT: I read one of your posts wrong. Apparently you know the basics. Either way, the rest still applies. Cheers and good luck!

Its not recomended but you can, otherwise it will brick. You can still get data and signal ive tried that before, you might have to change the APN to actually fix MMS/SMS/Data isues.
Some people says that it works like charm. That you can flash att s3 roms to your tmobile s3 and everything works.
I had flashed the jellybam from att and it works like charm. also look at this thread that came out on the verizon forum

I always refer back to T-Mobile rom cause if I'm going to use a TW rom it's only for Wi-Fi calling, and we have (In My Opinion) great devs here for our AOSP and AOKP stuff. If you have any questions post here and I'll do my best to help. I'm off for the weekend will be lurking the forums for the day for the most part.

Darthstalker ROM -- All things not development related--

I figured I would start this thread so that we can move all the non-development talk out of the development section. I hope people will use it so that when something that pertains to development is talked about it will be easier to find. We can discuss what kernels gives best battery life, which ones work and which one break things. We can post about our favorite apps, widgets, wallpapers, or how the weather is outside. Maybe someone will get help on an issue they are having. We can discuss anything within the guidelines of XDA, lets just try to help keep Jovy's thread clean.
I'll start, has anyone had an issue when coming out of sleep the screen is dim and you have to go into brightness and tap it to make it work? I think maybe I set my clock frequency to low or maybe I should be using a different governor. Another issue that bugs me is when I have ripple effect set and use a black background for my lockscreen the borders of the screen look slightly grey. I have read posts about this and by turning off ripple effect the color is like it should be. I like the ripple effect and I like black backgrounds, does anyone know about a fix for this, or does anyone notice this issue on their phone.
Here's the link to the Darthstalker ROM if you read this post and want to check out the actual ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442
I am not the developer of this ROM, all credit for this great ROM goes to jovy23 and those he's listed in his OP.

Same here! I find 99.9% of ROM-related issues for us flashaholics stem from not performing a full wipe prior to a flash. I've been fully stable on every DaRTHSTALKER update, with LOTS of varying kernel testing, by using this method. Full data + cache + Dalvik wipe then flash than another cache/dalvik wipe before the boot is always a good strategy!

I had something happen last night that I've never had happen before and maybe sometime can tell me what it was. I was restoring back after messing with a few mods that didn't work and when my phone booted up in the lower left corner it said "Safe Mode". I went back into recovery and wiped cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, and then rebooted and safe mode was gone. What is safe mode?
Thanks,
Todd
Edit: Should have used Google first. Safe mode is similar to computer safe mode. It only loads base os to allow for removal of files. Still don't understand why it happened, but atleast I know it wasn't something bad.

I WOULD NOT DO THAT! Although I cannot answer the question directly, every carrier has modified there own Galaxy S3. They are all completely different. I know that if you flash a Universal galaxy S3 rom onto a T-Mobile device, it will completely hard brick it due to a change in the partition structure. If you have an At&t device, I would still stick to the Galaxy s3 at&t roms even though T-mobile is your carrier.

I know that if you flash a Universal galaxy S3 rom onto a T-Mobile device, it will completely hard brick it due to a change in the partition structure. If you have an At&t device, I would still stick to the Galaxy s3 at&t roms even though T-mobile is your carrier.

+1. Unlocking your phone only allows it access to a different carriers sim card. It does not change the base of the phone itself. I have a Tmobile SG3 that's unlocked for my travels but any ROM I flash must be a tmo based ROM. In your case stick with the ATT ROMs so you don't end up with a brick, and enjoy this great rom
My s3 is stalking your s3....
Does anyone have a flashable (zip) stock kernel?
I have looked and looked with no luck, I mean I can always just re flash the rom, but wanted to explore other alternatives first.
Thanks for creating this thread btw.

I have noticed a while ago when I receive text notification or miss calls, when i slide on them it takes about 10 second to open. I have reflashed this ROM several times n others just to see what's up but the problem only occurs with version x...anyone else experience this? just my phone?
