Gps issues - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'm currently running blazer 4.1 with fc07 modem and gunslinger kernel. No matter what Rom I use, gb or ics, as well as testing with different modems, my gps will lock the first couple times but after coming out of a long sleep it won't lock at all. I've tried gps status with no luck, as well as tried the el29 gps fix when I was running that modem. The only thing that seems to work is booting into recovery and clearing cache and dalvik. This will get my gps to lock until my phone goes into another long sleep, then back to nothing. Does anyone know of any other fixes I could try?

Have you cleared AGPS? Also try using a different kernel.

I've tried every combination of everything. I just reboot and that never fails to work. A little annoying, but, no big deal.

I figured it was just a bug in the ICS leaks. Mine also does the same.

Yes, I've reset agps and downloaded through gps status but nothing helps. I'll try a different kernel next, but even when I was on the ics roms and using the stock kernels it would do the same thing.
Sent from my Blazing fast Epic 4G Touch

I had gps lock issues too, but after trying most modems I found one that doesn't seem to have any problems. Make sure you update your profile and prl after flashing modems /kernels

Sounds like u might just have a hardware problem and need a new phone. My first phones GPS was awful and wouldn't lock and my replacement is perfect. Trust me Samsung phones are all different. My epic touch is different than yours and so on. Take it to sprint and get another one.

If you are running a beta rom, wouldnt it make sense to go to PhantomHacker's forum to try to figure it out?

It happens on any rom, even stock. I'm thinking it may be hardware related.

Never had a problem with a lock on any GB Roms with any kernel or Modem...Ever since I flashed ICS Roms tho...is when it started...None of the (GPS) programs to improve locking would work...The last two leaks for ICS which would be FC06 and FCO7 I've been gettin locks...So its not a hardware problem...One sure way to get it to work is to restore a GB Rom with EL29 get a lock leave GPS Open boot into Recovery and restore a Nandroid Backup for the ICS Rom you were on...Open GPS and you will lock... this worked every time...But now since the last two leaks of the two previous ones I mentioned I haven't had a problem...So its either the Modem or the Kernel...I expect the Modem...The problem is on here a lot of people haven't had locking issues with GPS whether they are on ICS or GB...(Go Figure...)

If your not on ICS its hardware.... I had the same issue till I traded the phone in......new phone GPS works perfect on all GB Roms

No charge bro
If anyone needs any help with the epic touch hit me up on Gtalk @musclehead84

My GPS worked at one time, but not at all since ICS, and MAYBE the last two revisions of GB. Tried every trick in the book, even goong back to old modems. Hoping this is addressed on software soon, or I may turn the phone in. Not a dealbreaker, but a huge PITA, I do use it somewhat often. Then there's the principle of a defective product.

I also thought it is not a big deal until I took the bike at 11:30 pm for a ride and (I know this sounds dumb) but I got lost and when I tried to reboot, the battery decreased suddenly from 50 something to only 7%. I had to work my ass as quickly as possible to reach some place I know before it dies completely on me, hahaha...

I have GPS issues on my stock EL29. It was working previously but then I installed the ICS leaks and my GPS stopped working. Went back to complete stock and its still not working. Bummer.

After doing a full wipe and install of the stock rooted el29 tar, I finally got gps to lock successfully multiple times. I left gps locked and flashed blazer 4.1 and all is still good. Do you think its safe to do an advanced restore of data in recovery or should I just restore everything manually?

Finally got it after flashing to Calk 2.9.2, then nandroid restoring ICS.

I was in love with EG31 for a while, but, EL16 ended up being better in the long run... EL26 didn't impress me so I didn't keep it for more than a couple hours... But given all of the positive responses I'm flashed it and I'm going to "let it settle" for a few days.
... I'm skeptical that "letting it settle" has any effect, but, it seemed to for EL16. Anyone that has any technical explanation (for or against) would be awesome.

I may be crazy... it could all be in my head or just some luck with the GPS process, but since I put on the EL26 stock rom, kernal, and modem (then rooted) it seems like GPS is much better. Satelites synced in few seconds when outside.
Anyone else? I have not applied any of the GPS fix to the stock EL26 yet, may not need too. Have not done any type of testing other than just using navigation and noticing the faster GPS connection (from GPS being completely off too btw).

The gps app is gps status found in the market.
As far as el26 modem for me it was worse. I used it for 2 days and my speeds were half of what el13 was. I was having worse service and some ghost Los where it just wouldn't connect. Still liking calkulins 2.7 but had to revert my modem back to el13.
I wish Sprint would release an OTA update for this already.

Doesn't the GPS continue to work for a few days, before requiring a reboot?
Thats the case with my phone, try different versions of the rooted rom, or radios.

THanks. upon reading a bit of that thread, I found out that through using "GPS Status" I can refresh the "A-GPS" which I didn't know previously.

Update if anyone's interested: FB21 modem w/ EL29 Kernel was good but still had GPS locking issues. I was getting roughly 85% locks (which isn't bad since I test often). FAST download speeds though.
So this got me thinking: When my phone was stock, GPS worked brilliantly. It wasn't until I installed a custom rom that it started to have problems. The difference was the kernel and modems.
So now I flashed back to EK02 modem and kernel (still running Calks 2.9.2) and my GPS has been locking 100% of the time. PLUS my phone is silky smoooooth!
Crossing my fingers that this will last....

Is anyone by chance using an extended battery? I was for awhile and my gps was horrible. I never seemed to get a lock. Low 4G Speed On ICS Roms

Okay so here is my story.
I have had this phone since it was first released. I have rooted my phone successfully and I have been using custom rom's since gingerbread.
Whenever I install ICS roms, the 4G will always fall to <100kbps on the speed test app. When I go back to gingerbread the 4G speeds are normal.
I've tried about 20 different ICS modems and kernels on various ICS roms and I get the same results.
Just today I went to the Sprint store and got my phone replaced thinking maybe I just had a bad phone. I just installed another ICS ROM and I'm getting the same Bull**** 4G speeds... WTF (I'm tight)
Any advice, tips, ideas, or am I just a duncebat?

I get that same problem. And it gets stranger still. I pay for 30Mbps internet at home. If I speed test on my computer, I get 30, or damn close to it. But when I speed test on my phone, I get a whopping 10. Since wimax is wifi, I am guessing that its a problem in the modem related to wifi. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've never had this problem and I've went thru a few ics leaks. But then again all I do is sfhub's one-clicks and stay stock. That must suck, I honestly can't see me on sprints slow 3g if I had that issue. I'll go crazy without my 4g :banghead:

Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Yeah the app sucks specially when u combine it with sprints .070 KBps 3g speeds!
I am pretty sure this problem is caused by the hacked hotspot app.
Anyone having reboots running a rom that DOESN'T have the hacked hotspot?
Or try wifi tether?
I have mainly run sfhub's one clicks also and have never had an unexpected reboot.
But, i just use wifi tether and not the sprint hotspot
Going out on a limb....
Dl-ing weird euro-porn by the TB?
I also havent heard of radio related rebooting before, and Ive used almost every ICS rom thats dropped on 2 different E4GTs AND have done horrible, horrible things to my net settings trying to perfect my connectivity. I have used 4g daily for testing and have 3g going strong at an average of 1.5Mbps or so.
Im with guy-whos-name-I-cant-remember-now in thinking you have some element you arent accounting for. You have anything in mmcblk0p12? It would not be cleared by any popular wipe script. Neither would wimax settings....
Reprovision, reset DSA and call it a day. If you still random-reboot, kernel panic due to any number of things.
Had it on every ics leak...no problems with cm9 and aokp. I'm on 4g 10 hours a day, so it kinda of sucks when it happens...oh well, it'll get fixed eventually.
