Hi, and thanks in advance for anyone who can help.
I have a desire hd phone, witch I love anyways I had it rooted a few months ago by a local phone shop, but I didn’t really see the benefit from it, in fact it caused problems so I performed a full factory reset within a few days, and thought that was the end of it.
Anyways my phone received the option to update to the 2.3 gingerbread on Monday, it downloads fine, and then when the install starts it freezes at about 20% of the way thorough.
I have contacted HTC several times about it, they say the phone will not update if it’s been rooted and I have to send it back to them to have it re-flashed, one person said it would cost £30, another said £200 so I would rather not send it to them. the last guy I spoke to was very helpful, he said it was possible for me to reflash the phone to its original ''shipped'' state, and if I joined a help forum I could possibly get some help, but he was unable to advise me on this., so here I am!!!
I received the phone new in January and it has had no updates until the one on Moday, and it was rooted using visionary a few months ago, I have performed several factory restores since then.
Current software is:
android version 2.2
baseband version 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_m
build number 1.37.771.3 CL290190
software number 1.37.771.3
im in the uk, and on the 3 network
Many thanks,
Jamie

Hey dude, this link should help. I'm currently downloading it so that I can help you further when you get it also.
I would think twice about reverting everything back to stock though. You are now in the right place, the shop you went to, to get your phone rooted was the wrong place! We are a friendly bunch for the most part so do some reading in the desire HD general section and you'll find some nice ROMs that are close to stock firmware but perform better. If they're not for you then feel free to flash the official ROM from your provider that I have linked to above.
Oh yeah, Welcome to XDA!
Thanks for that, How do i go about installing it, and will it completely revert the phone back to its original state so i can use the ota update and get the 2.3 gingerbread?
And thanks again for your help
Damnit, what I've linked to is actually someones backup of a stock 3 ROM so it won't be quite back to factory fresh. Let me do some digging, I'll be back.
EDIT: What exactly did the shop do, other than use visionary? You could try AMT tools from here and query the device info, that should at least let us know what they have and haven't done to the phone. I suspect that they have set a super CID hence why the update won't go through. Try AMT and report back.
Thankyou very much your help is appreciated.
Should i try the link you posted earlier??
Just use AMT tools that I linked to above in one of my edits and check the CID, If it is just the CID that has been altered, then you can use this tool to reflash a 3UK CID which is H3G__001
when i use AMT it says AMT is designed for use with Desire HD and Dsire z / G2 ONLY But i have a desire HD ????
Strange, is there an option to click OK or ignore?
EDIT: Weird, I just booted into windows and I get the same thing with AMT tools. Now I'm really confused. Try using the other tool that I linked to and see what that displays.
EDIT 2: Just had a thought. Pull your battery then put it back in. Hold 'down' on the volume rocker then press the power button. Your phone should start in the bootloader and we should be able to get some more info. Once you've done this, list everything that it says in the bootloader screen.
Sorry, my brain is a bit slow today for some reason.
Ok ill do that now, i have also just rooted my phone again using visionary (i followed the link in your earlier message. so its rooted again now. cant believe i paid £20-00 to have that done, it took me less than 5 minutes to do it

OK, so it would seem as though all they did was root it and leave most things intact, I think they must have changed your CID though probably using the jkoljo's radio S-OFF tool.
Run that tool and try to change your CID to whatever it was that I said before H3G__001 I think it was, or you could equally use that tool to get radio s-off super-CID and sim-unlock, then install ROM manager from the market, flash Clockwork Mod Recovery and then flash a custom ROM after making a backup of course.
The world is your lobster at this point and flashing new ROMs can be fun. I might have to re-flash my current ROM myself as I think I've screwed something up with it from messing around too much earlier today
i dont understand the open "Desire HD easy radio tool.exe'' where is that??
Please remember i am a complete noob when it comes to this, lol
i had to download the visionary app using my phone as my laptop kept saying it had a virus.
i have downloaded the premium rom manager app, can you recomend and good roms, or where i can get a list of them? also could you explain in noob terms how to change my phone so i can get the 2.3 update? the cid bit!!!
Thank you, you have been very helpfull.

I'm gonna point you to this thread as it has everything you could possibly want or need to know in it. There is a link there to a thread all about how to flash a ROM, what tools you need on your PC etc..
With regards to how to get 2.3 onto your phone pretty much every ROM you'll find in the DEV section is based on 2.3. That thread I've linked also has links to pretty much every ROM currently available for the DHD and everything is explained far better than I would be able to explain things.
The tool to get Super-CID, which really only helps when it comes to flashing Radio's (which is something I would avoid until you've found your feet a little, however it's worth doing now, as it is simple and relatively worry free) is at the bottom of this post.
Happy reading and just remember that as long as you read all the instructions for something before starting it and you feel comfortable with what the instructions are explaining, then you will succeed with your end goal.

I have downloaded this, but i have no idea how to use it! i extracted the files to my desktop, it has a few different applications in there, one says start here but when i open it a command prompt comes up on my pc screen, i dont know where to go from there

You should extract them into one folder, then from there you should be able to double click the only thing that looks like a program icon. If nothing is happening it would suggest that you need to update your .NET framework. Do that by running windows update or going here.
Honestly....... the best thing to do would be to go here and read the basic setup bit so that your PC is ready for everything, and then read the rest of that little guide and it should hold your hand through the whole process.
im going to attempt a custom rom form the link you gave me (everything desire hd) do you have any recomendations??
Cyanogenmod is interesting as it more like stock Android, MIUI is similar to iOS and then you have the sense ROMs with tweaks and whatnot. Have a look at the options available in the screenshots and see what you like the look of, it's a very subjective thing as some like one thing and others like something else.
the link you gave me for the rado code was missing the important bit!
i managed to find it somewhere else

do you have to go through the root procedure every time you use the radio tool, or will it work every time after the phone is rooted. the reason i ask is that i just tried to do it and it said ''operation failed, probably connection'' ill try it again now

It usually fails the first time, I don't know why. After a reboot it worked for me, keep your phone screen on though as the package will request superuser permission.
That link is definitely not missing anything as I've downloaded and run it from that link several times, but maybe your download got corrupted.
Glad all seems well now anyway.
Hi guys!
I`m sorry if this issue has already been discussed, but I`ve spent my last 4 days practically non stop online tot find a solution to my problem, and found nada.
Here`s my problem:
I own an hTC Desire and I`ve currently Upgraded my Froyo(2.2) to Gingerbread 2.3.3, running the official Gingerbread 2.3.3 RUU.exe file.
All went well, but this was kinda` stupid on my part. Gingerbread 2.3.3 works fine, but obviously I lost my root access, and also got an upgrade on HBoot, from 0.92 to 1.02, and I can`t seem to be able to root it anymore. I`ve tried everything I could find:
- Revolutionary.io - doesn`t detect my phone
- Unrevoked3 - "Unable to get root; is your firmware too new?" (duuh)
- Gingerbreak(1.0; 1.1; 1.2) - hangs on the root proccess and doesn`t get the job done, I`ve waited about half an hour, and got nothing
- HBoot flash utility from Alpharev (PC reboot on bootable CD from alpharev) - same, it hangs, doesn`t detect my phone.
- Created a Goldcard, copied new updates/ROMs to the root of the Goldcard, rebooted phone to recovery - "Version older than current" (that was expected).
Has anyone succeeded in root-ing the official Gingerbread RUU 2.3.3 on hTC Desire? And if YES, will you please, for the love of God, share it with me?
Here are my phone specs:
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
Kernel version: 2.3.35.10-g3f43272
Build number: 3.14.405.1 CL96875 release-keys
Software number: 3.14.405.1
Browser version: Webkit/533.1
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.02.0001
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Thanks!!!
To narrow it down, revolutionary is the only way so concentrate on that. Ensure you read the documentation thoroughly as it has been successful for many

make sure you have usb debugging turned on then run revolutionary
USB debugging was always ON when attempting all of the above, "adb devices" lists my phone, so adb is fully working, I`ve also installed all of the adb SDK Windows drivers, including the "Booloader driver" - basically Windows Device Manager is OK in what drivers are concerned. I`ve covered all the basics, I`m not a newbie in this.
I realise that Revolutionary is the "main way to go", but it doesn`t detect my phone, no matter what I do.
I`m going berserk trying to root it
Not "main", only.
Tried different usb ports/ cables?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Tried that too, tried all of the above on different PCs/laptops, both Windows XP and Seven.
Still nothing
Well you're definitely doing it right it would seem. Maybe see if you can contact the revolutionary guys?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
There`s no contact listed on their site.
Plus, those guys have better things to do than mess around with my little problems
A downgrade would also suffice, rooting is easy on Froyo, but thanks to this version of HBoot, I can`t do that, either.
Users are incredibly lazy and/or stupid when it comes to figuring out how to solve problems by themselves. Unfortunately there are also other naive fools who will help every n00b asking even the most ridiculous question possible. And because of them they will return back and ask stupid question again. And again. And again. I guess this is the new form of trolling, otherwise I can't explain how completely sane people with IQ higher than ape are willing to willingly support n00bs without actually teaching them anything useful.
Thanks for ur "kind" words, Terepin. I do seem to have a low IQ, seeing how I`ve spent all this time trying to figure out a solution to my problem, and failed, ultimately, as a measure of last resort, asking for help here.
Please, "great one", enlighten me - and other "n00bs" like myself - : what is the solution to the problem previously presented?!
Should be easy for someone with such superior mentality.
Fact that adb sees it is one thing, but does it see Windows?
Alright i_cs_u
I did the same thing as you so used Revolutionary and it worked first time for me. I know thats no help but the only things I did different are the usual like unistall HTC sync and make sure you have the HTC fastboot drivers installed which are available on the Revolutionary site. Hope you sort it dude.........
Good question. Do you even have installed HTC drivers?
HTC Sync is long gone from PC, never really found any use for it, and yes, the drivers were installed, got them from the same site as u did. Like I said, I covered all the basics, I practically read each and every thread Google had to offer on this topic; for some Revolutionary worked, but seems like it has something personal with me, won`t detect my phone at all.
What the hell am I missing?
LE
@ Terepin, sorry for "barking" at you dude, just going outta` my mind here cause of this.
LE2
GOT IT DONE!
U won`t believe what was blocking it - THE BATTERY!!!
I`m using a custom made battery - 3500mAh, removed it, used the original one and it worked.
Why was the baterry blocking the software, makes no sense what-so-ever.
Thank you all for your help and patience!
Peace!
I've got exactly the same set up as the OP and want to root my Desire.
Is there a 'noob' guide for doing this using - Revolutionary.io?
Thanks
Yes. There are guides all over the internet. Just search 'how to root HTC desire using revolutionary'. The one on the cyanogen Wiki is pretty good.

Hey, I am attempting to root a HTC wildfire A3333. I have tried to follow the following post here but I can only get to step 2 (downgrading the HBOOT version) then it goes wrong. I open up the step1.bat (that should be step2.bat) file that was included in the downloaded file, but it opens up the CMD window goes through the process saying that each step has malformed and finishes then closes.
I have tried looking for other ways to root or for a fix, but i cant seem to find anything.
I have stock Android 2.2.1 and HBOOT 1.01.0002 installed. I have tried to use revoked to root but says the firmware is to new.
Can anybody direct me in the direction of clear easy to understand instructions on how to root the wildfire or give me any other form of help. I am new to this.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks, Wooster
When I rooted I followed another guide (not on xda). First I downgraded to android 2.1 using a RUU which also downgraded the hboot to 0.80something. Then I rooted via revolutionary. Hope it helps.

ahh well that may just be a route i have to go down then
Do you have a link to the guide that you used or know of any that tell how to do that process?

Thanks for getting back. I did think that you may have rooted your phone a while ago. I will look at what you have suggested and see if I can achieve anything.
Probably a silly question but I take it if I just backup my phone using MyBackup app from Play Store (Android Market) and then once I have installed the new RUU I can then just restore all my data back onto my phone using the same app?
Also what happens if I want my wildfire back to how it was when stock. For example if something goes wrong or I decide to be difficult and want it back the way it was Is there a way to restore it back to the stock OS (Froyo 2.2.1) ?
Thanks

I mistyped a part of my original post (now corrected) about the step1.bat file i was supposed to write that when I ran the step2.bat file it didn't work. Sorry to cause confusion, I was not thinking properly when I typed that
I did think my antivirus may cause a problem. I will try what lo2ay posted first, before I go back down the other root that I got stuck on. Thanks for your help though.
Again thanks to both off you for your help ,
Wooster
YOu will look for downgrade first.
Google for original roms earlier versions. FIles *.*exe. In debugging mode and "charge only" usb connections you will run downloaded file.
AFter this you will run unrevoked method.
Hello, so i have a HTC dhd which i rooted following a guide on here using the root method via htc site (sorry i cant remember the actual links)
That all worked well and flashed with clockwork mod and running with cyanogenmod 7.2.0
Since then i got a little bored and wanted to try some other custom roms, tried blackice, leedroid, paranoid android and a few others. All of which failed to actually run. Installed fine but would sit on Tmobile screen for 30+ mins.
So i then had a read a bit more and thought maybe i need s-off, tried that using AHK and that fails due too some problem flashing radio.
I cant flash any other radio either (or not ones i have been able to find).
Figured maybe ill try and install a stock RUU which i have 4 different versions.
RUU_Tube_HTC_Generic_1.11.0.0_Radio__release_203247_signed
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TMO_UK_2.12.110.4_R_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157560_signed
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed
all of these either fail to even start the install or get stuck at 18% and then end up with a failed updating ruu screen.
So im kind of stuck with cyanogenmod 7 at the moment and hence why i am here.
Hopefully its something dumb that i have or haven't done and will be easy to fix. At the moment id like to just return to sense rom and keep root.

If anyone can help me get a working sense rom actually working or even return to stock so i can start again i would be greatfull.
Sorry if i have done something completely noobish.
try suing ace hack kit u can find it on the forums i had problems and used it now i can use any custom rom . just be sure that u turn ur virus checker off when u download , unpack and use it as it identifies 1 of the files as a virus , it isnt and wont harm ur comp but the file is needed to give u s-off hope this helps
hey thanks for the reply, i have tried ace hack kit (AHK) via ubuntu. Gives me an error of failed to downgrade radio, check cable, possible goldcard error. (or something similar to that)
If you used the htcdev, you need to relock the bootloader.

if i rember rightly thres a gold card creator in the hack kit , my dhd was unbranded so i was lucky i didnt have to use it either that or look up making a gold card for dhd u should find 1 about i know when i was first rootin my dhd i made one but didnt need it

ill try that. i knew it would be something dumb that i hadnt or had done. hopefully this fixes it. thanks
so i tried to relock it which worked and then ran the hack kit again which froze after said it had downgraded radio. only thing i could do was battery out and reboot which then left me with a red ! managed to reflash clockworkmod but now every rom i try freezes on tmobile screen and im still s-on and all the same settings as i had before.
At the moment unable to use my phone as i cant get any roms to work.
You are gonna have to wait for someone more knowledgable to help you out.
On a side note: the ace hack kit was just pulled out from xda due to..... well, it's a long story. I don't know if the hack kit is a standalone program or if it connects to a server to do it's magic. Hold on to the program for now and wait for muikkuman (did I get your name right this time? ) glevitan and a few others.
Edit: do a search for your issue. It's there somewhere. I'll try to help you when I have a chance.

You need s-off to load roms. google how to make a gold card manually. it's fairly simple. boot into recovery and do a full wipe. then try to run AHK.

I dont think i ever actually flashed that one, the tmobile one for the desire hd froze at 18% and every custom rom never worked (ones for desire hd which i got from the desire hd forum here)
cyanogen mod did work until yesterday when i used AHK which seemed to have caused more issues than anything useful.
after some digging on here i found that the eMMC 'fried chip' was the problem and following some tips on how to fix it never worked. Took it to tmobile today said that i was trying to install a update from the htc site and it froze so they are sending it off to be fixed (hopefully)
I've been trying to get the AAHK working on my DHD with:

Hboot-2.00.0027
Radio-26.14.52.27
Android 2.3.5
Sense 3.0
Softwareversie: 3.12.405.2
Kernel 2.6.35.10-g931a37e
So, I've gone through all the steps of the Advanced Ace Hack Kit and I didn't get an ADB connection. The provided drivers didn't work with Windows 8.
I got the error that my phone wasn't connected, USB debugging wasn't enabled or the correct drivers weren't installed.
So I've gone down the road of virtual machines and Ubuntu, didn't work either... (presumably just because I'm a Linux NOOB)
[FIX] I solved this issue actually very simple. I downloaded the HTC Sync software from the official HTC website. Installed it and right after successful install I removed the HTC Sync software and the HTC Driver Manager (or something like that). ONLY keep the original HTC drivers. I Started the Advanced Ace Hack Kit again, and now everything worked perfectly. Just a heads up for people who are experiencing the same error and in need for a quick fix! Good Luck!
I have the same windows and the same stock rom. Thanks for the tips!
Question: if you would do it again would you just try and use a pc without windows 8? I suppose then there is no problem?
Did you experience some issues regarding your stock rom 3.12.405.2? I believe only 3.12.405.1 is mentioned in EFFEN manual

Good Luck!

Even if you get AAHK itself, the server hosting the files it needs to download is gone.

I was meaning that if ANYONE has the AAHK file if they can upload it and link it here or something.

Wait, I don't think you're getting my meaning. Even if you have the AAHK file itself, the AAHK script is supposed to download files from the AAHK server. That server is now gone. So even if you manage to get the AAHK file itself, you still can't use it to get S-Off. Unless you just want the file for other purposes?

I think OP wants AAHK itself...but even so, if OP uses that thread's files and happens to get stuck, he's unlikely to get support.

Ok. Even I am planning to root and S-off my wife's DHD using AAHK (totally on my own risk). I have gone through the script and found the appropriate PD98IMG file. I dont think it will cause any issue. Hope I get through successfully.

Ok my fault. I didnt know it downloads additional files from another server. My thought was that it already comes with everything so you didnt have to download anything else. But no I understand. I just mainly need to get S-off to completely unlock the phone. If theres another method besides the (to me) "complicated" manual method that is on the site...

I know there's a way to get the files from another thread around here somewhere, but I've never used them and can't validate the files (and the OP has what I find is a rather offensive meme, but that's neither here nor there). And of course, it's unsupported; it's not how AAHK was intended to be used, and support ended with AAHK's retirement.
dude i used the "complicated method" last night, its really not complicated at all i realised, its just a matter of reading and doing. Once i realised this i managed to root and S-OFF within 20 minutes.

The problem is, on XDA I have no way of knowing whether any person asking is someone who can capably read and follow directions, or whether the person is someone who can only click buttons and complain when something breaks. So I lay out the options and let each person figure it out for themselves.

Here is a simple guide that anyone with basic android knowledge or basic ability to conduct google searches can follow:

if that link doesnt work then:

If anyone insists on using the now retired Hack Kit then the best advice I can give is to use a Linux Live CD and run the Hack Kit under linux. A lot easier than using it under windows.

It still doesnt work, since the hack tool tries to contact the servers to download files, but fails because the files have long been removed.

hmm it seems half of my post is missing. I should have added to only use the hack Kit if you have previously downloaded all 9 ROMs named in the Hack Kit and edited the scrip to point to the downloaded files and not the online servers.
it is risky to use the hack kit because if anything goes wrong it is unsupported.

That's a good idea, I've tried it already, but I got some strange results, I think I just did something wrong.

That is not correct. The Hack Kit script as it is, finds the PD98IMG file in the folder. You don't need to have all the 9 RUU's but the correct one. If the Hack Kit is not detecting it, then you are probably missing something.
