Hello, so i have a HTC dhd which i rooted following a guide on here using the root method via htc site (sorry i cant remember the actual links)
That all worked well and flashed with clockwork mod and running with cyanogenmod 7.2.0
Since then i got a little bored and wanted to try some other custom roms, tried blackice, leedroid, paranoid android and a few others. All of which failed to actually run. Installed fine but would sit on Tmobile screen for 30+ mins.
So i then had a read a bit more and thought maybe i need s-off, tried that using AHK and that fails due too some problem flashing radio.
I cant flash any other radio either (or not ones i have been able to find).
Figured maybe ill try and install a stock RUU which i have 4 different versions.
RUU_Tube_HTC_Generic_1.11.0.0_Radio__release_203247_signed
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TMO_UK_2.12.110.4_R_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157560_signed
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed
all of these either fail to even start the install or get stuck at 18% and then end up with a failed updating ruu screen.
So im kind of stuck with cyanogenmod 7 at the moment and hence why i am here.
Hopefully its something dumb that i have or haven't done and will be easy to fix. At the moment id like to just return to sense rom and keep root.
Ace PVT ship s-on rl
HBOOT-2.00.0029
MICROP - 0438
Radio-26.14.04.28_m
Anything else you might need to know ill try and find it.
If anyone can help me get a working sense rom actually working or even return to stock so i can start again i would be greatfull.
Sorry if i have done something completely noobish.
try suing ace hack kit u can find it on the forums i had problems and used it now i can use any custom rom . just be sure that u turn ur virus checker off when u download , unpack and use it as it identifies 1 of the files as a virus , it isnt and wont harm ur comp but the file is needed to give u s-off hope this helps
hey thanks for the reply, i have tried ace hack kit (AHK) via ubuntu. Gives me an error of failed to downgrade radio, check cable, possible goldcard error. (or something similar to that)
If you used the htcdev, you need to relock the bootloader.
Sent from a dream.
if i rember rightly thres a gold card creator in the hack kit , my dhd was unbranded so i was lucky i didnt have to use it either that or look up making a gold card for dhd u should find 1 about i know when i was first rootin my dhd i made one but didnt need it

ill try that. i knew it would be something dumb that i hadnt or had done. hopefully this fixes it. thanks
so i tried to relock it which worked and then ran the hack kit again which froze after said it had downgraded radio. only thing i could do was battery out and reboot which then left me with a red ! managed to reflash clockworkmod but now every rom i try freezes on tmobile screen and im still s-on and all the same settings as i had before.
At the moment unable to use my phone as i cant get any roms to work.
You are gonna have to wait for someone more knowledgable to help you out.
On a side note: the ace hack kit was just pulled out from xda due to..... well, it's a long story. I don't know if the hack kit is a standalone program or if it connects to a server to do it's magic. Hold on to the program for now and wait for muikkuman (did I get your name right this time? ) glevitan and a few others.
Edit: do a search for your issue. It's there somewhere. I'll try to help you when I have a chance.

You need s-off to load roms. google how to make a gold card manually. it's fairly simple. boot into recovery and do a full wipe. then try to run AHK.

it was rooted, and running cyanogenmod fine. But thats all i could run until yesterday when it turns out that i had some eMMc problem which seems to have killed my phone. Back to htc it goes i guess and hope they can fix it

The RUUs that u are using are not for the DHD...HTC Bravo is desire but not Desire HD...if you flashed that, then you probably messed the device.

I dont think i ever actually flashed that one, the tmobile one for the desire hd froze at 18% and every custom rom never worked (ones for desire hd which i got from the desire hd forum here)
cyanogen mod did work until yesterday when i used AHK which seemed to have caused more issues than anything useful.
after some digging on here i found that the eMMC 'fried chip' was the problem and following some tips on how to fix it never worked. Took it to tmobile today said that i was trying to install a update from the htc site and it froze so they are sending it off to be fixed (hopefully)

I purchased my Desire back in June and as soon as i found out about rooting
i used the one click unrevoked 3 method. Due to it being unbranded i didnt need a gold card i simply did so. After which i had problems installing some roms and its become too difficult so ive decided to unroot it and use it as it was meant to be until i gain more knowledge.
My problem is no matter which RUU i use following the unlocker method nothing works. I continue to get the error that none of the RUUs are suitable for my phone.

Hi,
Is your Hboot 0.93 ?
try this RUU : http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
Enter bootloader (vol.dw+power), then plug the phone to USB and run the RUU it should work...
Have u installed HTC Sync again after using unrevoked?
U need the htc drivers installed
Have u tried LeeDroid?
Running stable and fast in my Desire, I rooted nd unrooted the phone twice, but every time i go back to unroot status i get bored, so root again, i think u should try another ROM first before unroot, try mine : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
Download de ROM,
Install thru ROM Manager or directly thru Recovery, but remember to Wipe data before u install make a clean install, if u still experience any issues go back to Stock...
My Hboot is 0.93.0001
Ill try the RUU tomorrow when i have enough time at my disposal
Although ill try leedroid first just in case. Hopefully it works and is good enough
thanks for the help
Just curious, but did it work?

Hello there xda-devs!!
I own an htc desire A8181 (amoled i think) and i fell into the temptation to root it. The problem is that i updated OTA into 2.2 froyo and my hboot now is 0.93.00001 on which the unrevoked method wont work (at leat for me it did not, as it showed : "validation error: backup cid is missing" ). I have installed the modified drivers and my desire is unbranded. I was hoping to find a method to root without losing any data or settings and since everyone showed as an alternative hboot downgrade and custom rom, so i thought " what if i downgraded hboot but i did not flash a new rom ", but the question is "is it possible?"
As you may have figured out, i dont know much about rooting/flashing etc, although i have some experience from flashing kaiser and some others, but i am willing to learn. If anyone could give me a hint/link/suggestion or solution to my problem it would be gratefully appreciated
PS thank you in advance and sorry for my english

Thanks for the quick response! Actually these posts were the first that i read when i first thought of rooting and i believe that i have correctly followed the steps of the how to for the unrevoked (version 3.22 straight from the unrevoked site) and i tried twice on different computers(both running win xp home x86). As for the alternatives on benko's tut, none of them supports OTA 2.2 froyo...
After thought and some reading, I decided that I will downgrade to 2.1, root using unrevoked and then flash to prerooted froyo. Actually, since the point is not to lose settings or data, does anyone know a safe way to back up everything and restore them to the new rom?
I have the same model as you mate and the latest unrevoked worked for me, I downloaded the one straight from their website.

Had you also updated OTA with froyo? If yes then why doesn't it work for me? I am sure that the phone is unbranded. Maybe it's something else and not hboot? My current specs are:
*Hboot:: 0.93.001
*Radio: 5.11.05.27
*Rom: 9.29.405.2 (got the update a week ago)
The only thing that I did not follow in the unrevoked guide, was that I didn't select hboot while loading the drivers, because I could not, no matter how many times I pressed the volume down button.I just waited for it to change to usb plug. Could that be the problem?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Something else I noticed the first time I tried with unrevoked, was that in the revoked window it showed "triumph" for a moment and then it rebooted for the last time and then it showed "validation error..". Strange is that it never showed it again not even on the 2nd or 3rd try...What could that mean?

If you're S-OFF now then you don't need to root - if anything you might be already!
As you hadn't said anything about the rest of the HBOOT I thought I'd mention it but I'm on 0.93 and can root with no issues
And what does it mean? I am already root and I don't know it? And why does then the unrevoked method not work and where is the superuser app?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If the Superuser app isn't there then you're not rooted, so that clears that up...
Go read the S-OFF thread in Development and post a query on there. It sounds like you may have a facotry unlocked bootloader which is extremely rare but best go and confirm it in the forum

However after a reboot I found myself in clockworkmod recovery, so that part seemed to work. However straight afterwards I tried to start the phone, I discovered had no access to SD card and any attempt to access phone via USB also gone, it seems Bluetooth is also gone. However I got the SD card back again using FASTBOOT, has anyone got any ideas how I could possibly get USB back?

Hey there! Found a solution: usb brick fix guide
Hi guys I'm trying to s-off using alpharev ISO disc...it goes through the process then after rebooting stage 3 I get 4 lines that say unary operator expected ... I shut down pc and phone boots as usual...
I'm running rxmix s v1.1
maybe change to stock ROM and try s-off again
Yes like the post above switch to a ROOTED stock froyo rom worked for me, the reason your getting errors is because the rom you are running has probably got data2whatever, data++ ect... this affects the alpha rev process.
Ditto above. Alpharev doesn't work on a2sd or similar ROMs... Look back a couple pages and you'll see I started a thread with the same issue. I'm on IC GB a2sd+...
Once pc is repaired, I plan to load stock Telstra RUU and try again, then re-root...

First, you better use USB stick instead of a disc, it is faster a more reliable.
Secondly, you won't be able to get s-off unless you flash either stock rom or AOSP rom ( oxygen worked for me without any problems).

Happy to hear
Hi folks. Writing this without any hope that someone is online at the moment.
I'm currently using alpharev to flash HBOOT on my htc desire. It has stucked on step 3 with two lines on phone's screen:
Aplharev SPLBOOT version 2.0
...
Normal NAND detected. Non-PVT4
and keeps hanging like that nearly an hour already.
The phone is rooted, with Clockworkmod recovery and InserCoin 2.0.1 DATA2EXT ROM installed.
Did anybody have the same behaviour while flashing HBOOT?
Should I be patient and wait for some miracle to happen?
thanks in advance.
Are you S-Off already??
use the new S-OFF utility. It's a lot quicker and easier. Just make sure you uninstall HTC Sync, or at least make sure it isn't running.

finally I've restored my previous ROM (and sh*tted a pile of bricks during this hour).
HBOOT screen says that my device is still S-ON. strange... maybe that's because of 'DATA2EXT' ROM onboard.

You won't be able to alter HBoot without S-Off...
I am not sure how the new Utility that bortak linked to works, but I know that the "old" alpharev will not S-Off if you are using A2SD/D2SD/D2EXT type ROMs. You will need to flash stock RUU (do not use latest GB update RUU!!!), or one of the AOSP ROMs, such as Oxygen, before proceeding.
Once you have S-Off, you can go back and re-root, then upgrade your HBoot etc.

I'm still wondering, why TUT-makers didn't mention this A2SD/D2SD/D2EXT ROMs inconsistency.
I think this should be written in large letters on the first line for noobs like me
Lol, you're right on that!!
If you look on alpharev site, it is mentioned in the text, but VERY small!
Requirements:
The only requirement right now is that the ROM you're running is rooted.
As techniques such as 'data2ext' have been popping up, these might disturb our finely-tuned flashing process.
Please revert to a rooted stock ROM if possible. Your /data partition is used for temporary storage of important files.

I missed it the first time also, had lots of dramas, and finally spotted that note after many frustrating hours. It should have been written in bright red, 72 cap at the top of screen!!
You need to use an a2sd Rom like lee Droid 2.5.
Alpha rev state this at start of web page using data2sd can cause problems.
Flash lee Droid 2.5 and try it again, you should be fine
Kind regards

Hi everyone
I was advising somebody on rooting their Desire HD.
We got as far as installing the 1.32 stock ROM and I stupidly (and now I regret it so damn much) forgot about radio S-offing the device first so we tried Eng-S-Off. That said do not turn off the device because the bootloader is corrupt.
Then we tried the Radio S off tool and that said Unknown error, possibly connection.
How can we fix this?
EDIT: Will installing an RUU fix it?

Ya it will just do that way and do the rooting again after following these steps.....
find the stock splash screen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15430340&highlight=stock#post15430340
Uncompress that and put the .img file in the same folder as your fastboot file (in the Android SDK, it used to be in the Tools folder but nowadays they put it in the Platform-Tools folder), then open a CMD window, (Make sure the file is called splash1.img) and type:
fastboot flash splash1 splash1.img
That will restore the stock splash screen.
To restore the software you have to:
1: Find a 1.32.405.6 RUU that matches the original state of your phone. 2: Flash that RUU 3: Use Visionary R14 to Temproot and then Permroot 4: The Jkoljo's Easy Radio Tool to change the CID back to stock (If you phone was unbranded it will be HTC__001)
Now its ready to root again...
Hope that helps.
No I'm saying because the bootloader is corrupt, will installing an RUU restore the original bootloader?
There is no custom splash screen. We got as far as installing the 1.32 ROM.

I honestly think people are just copying and pasting stuff they've read somewhere without thinking about what they're saying. The bulk of that is nothing to do with the query you asked (apart from maybe the line about the RUU); I mean, replacing the splash image?! How's that going to help with a corrupted bootloader? Let alone telling you to download the full Android SDK just for that
On topic: the RUU should do it, but I've never tried it myself so you're probably safer waiting for someone with some actual experience to confirm before you flash. I have seen that error mentioned in one of the guides I used back when I rooted (January time), so I'll see if I can dig that out.

Okay, found it: a few people were having "bootloader corrupt" issues using the One-click ENG S-OFF tool.
Try the advice in that post (or maybe search that thread a bit further for mentions of "corrupt") before you waste time flashing a RUU. IIRC you can do Radio S-OFF & ENG S-OFF in any order (the ENG S-OFF tool has a box to tick whether you have Radio S-OFF or not); I don't think that's the problem here.
Thanks I will try that later. It seems like from the thread that if you didnt get a superuser message on the phone, nothing actually happened to the bootloader. We didnt get a superuser message on the phone. So could it be a false alarm and safe to reboot?
EDIT: By the way what the other user copied and pasted, I wrote originally lol but I didnt want to say that then in response.

Yeah, that should be fine. If you didn't allow it root access when you ran it then it's not going to have been able to do anything. Reboot, clear the request in your superuser app and start again.
You don't mention it, but I assume you've already used Visionary to permroot before you tried the S-OFF tool? Just a thought when you mentioned you didn't get the su request on the phone.

Lol this is quite funny. I was actually instructing him over skype and then when I left Skype last night he did something and it worked lol THANK GOD!
I have no idea what he did but wierd things happen when I'm not looking lmao
Still though, since we have had some major problems, do you recommend that we install an RUU and start again from scratch? Just to avoid any future problems?
EDIT: Yes it was Permrooted, the superuser came up when he tried it himself and it worked.
I wouldn't bother personally; as long as you're s-off it doesn't matter how you got there. It's not like the phone's going to be left half s-on or something.
Besides, why let him waste time redoing that when he should be using that time to flash a load of new ROMs

Hi fellow Android/HTC fan's,
I've been a reader of this forum now for a couple of years (mainly on the Xperia X10 part cause that's another phone I own) and I've gained loads of information and resources about flashing my Xperia and now for this HTC.
This problem however, I cannot fix.
The DHD i'm trying to fix crashed a couple of days ago running default HTC rom (because I was to lazy to flash it just yet ).
9 out of 10 times I start the phone, it get's stuck on the green HTC logo. The 1 time it actually DOES boot, every application that automatically starts up crashes and it's impossible to work with.
Since I wanted to flash the device anyway, so I tried rooting the device so I could install another recovery. None of the guides worked for me.
Using Visionairy app is impossible (cause I cannot launch any apps) and the all the guides using adb options also don't work for me (I can finish all the steps, but no root)
Since that didn't worked out for me, I wanted to fall-back and start again at a good base (working rom).
Tried flashing with RUU and using the ROM on SDCARD option. Both say that they've done their job but won't make a change.
I would expect that flashing a new STOCK rom would delete all my settings and apps, but this doesn't happen regardless of what I try.
As I tried all the options I could find, I hope you guys/girls can help me fix this DHD and make it an even better phone
The DHD was running on (I think) 2.3.5 (at least the latest available rom).
Hboot info:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.0.0.0027
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
Thanks in advance for your help!
Another thing I notice is that no settings get removed when I do a recovery or a factory reset.
Even applications I manually remove are back when the device is rebooted :S
Mine is already rooted for a while. But nowadays people seem to prefer 'advanced ace hack kit' for rooting Dhd. I would give it a shot.... Visionary is out dated....

Also tried the Advanced ace hack kit, but that one can't install the downgrade file due to the "Main Version" beeing newer.
If I understand the kit correctly it tries to do a soft root before installing the downgrade, but that's one of my problems cause that doesn't work.
Another thing I notice when running recovery is that I get the message that it's missing com files "cw recovery etc.".
Sounds to me that it's looking voor clockworkrecovery but i'm not using that yet (as I couldn't install it.

The Hack Kit is the only working tool to root the Ace (DHD / Inspire) If it is failing, is probably to a bad download. The main version issues are usually due to zergrush being eating by the Antivirus or firewall or any other security program. But to be sure I would need a pastebin of your outcome.
Run the hack kit and then paste the cmd session in a pastebin and hit the IRC in my signature...

Well, had an irc session with you guys yesterday and it looks like the phone is really broken
It is possible to get a temproot, but when the phone is rebooted everything is gone and i'm still not able to downgrade the firmware
Hope HTC will rma the phone...it's just over 2 years old.
