from Rom manager if i attempt to backup, it reboots but freezes at the white htc screen.
from bootloader - recovery it freezes at the white htc screen.
Sounds like your recovery isn't properly installed. I assume you used ROM manager to install it? If so try to manually flash CWM using flash_image
Use this thread for a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902493
You can get the latest version of CWM (currently 3.0.2.4) here: http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html just scroll down to the link that says "HTC G2"
After you flash try to manually go into recovery and see if you get past the HTC screen.
still the same, freezes at the white htc screen, she'll just have to get used to using a stock ROM.
What does flash_image report? Does it seem to work or does it throw an error?
You have verified you have S-OFF?
You may still be able to flash the ENG HBOOT and flash recovery from there using fastboot.

it does have s-off.
the flash seems to work but still cant get passed the white htc screen.
Did you install the engineering hboot? If so you can try flashing your recovery with fastboot.
Don't think so, I just followed the rooting guide using adb.

I have same problem. Any custom ROM freezes at the htc screen.
I download PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip and install.
I have s-off, root, unlock, but I can't load my phone with any custom Rom, after install phone freeze on white htc screen.

Well generally I wouldn't recommend the engineering HBOOT for casual users (I don't use it myself) but it does have an advantage in that you can flash recovery from fastboot.
I would do that next.

I can get into recovery, but it's useless. No one custom ROM not boot. And official PC10IMG.zip from rom.zip too.

i now have a nandriod and custom ROM installed, although i had permant root i followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD and managed to finish the job
I have been seeing posts saying that it is still S-ON after unlocked with HTCDev, is that true? And does the version of HBoot maters?
If it is still S-ON, may I ask, can I
Root the device
Flash recovery
Flash kernel
overclock
and Flash ROM
with S-ON?
I really want to help with my friend's Buzz.
#1 yes it does leave S-on but you are allowed to root your phone and from there you can install clockwork rom managar and flash clockwork recover and then you can install roms etc.
#2 Yes you will need to change the hboot, but they will prvide it in the instructions as the wildfire has an asterik for hboot upgrade via ruu.
Acording to heaps of people are using HTC Supertools to get root. Although i have a Desire HD, when i have used this i have not got root, but thats just seems to be me
It should work fine if done correctly.
Hope this helps.

As far as i know, the only thing you can't flash is the radio. I am not sure about kernel though.

You can't get into recovery when flashed it from rom manager by the bootloader option. You have to reboot into recovery from rom manager after flashing it from there cause it's not permanent.
I tried doing that too ,but it has the same result.
is there any way I can put cm7 without flashing into recovery ?
Or can I delete the recovery and put it again ?
My friend told me that if you have the image file of the Rom (which can be backed up from another wildfire having cm7), you can boot into that image and install cm7 .
can this happen ?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
You need to install cwm first, Rom manager just gives you a temporary downgrade to flash some older zips which use a different script to newer ones.
I believe you can use fastboot to install it, guide here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=
If you follow this guide that will get you cwm 4.x.x and allow you to flash cm7 from recovery, the latest version of cwm is 5.0.2.0 however and the img is knocking about in various places on this forum.

okay ,now this i my bad .
I tried rooting through a site which was meant for the wildfire s .
so i erased the recovery and put clockworkmod recovery .
After 5 tries , i finally got into the recovery and installed CM7 in minutes
Thanks to all of you for help
Heh nice to hear you made it

After using HTC tool to unlock bootloader, my device boots up and my bootloader is locked, Hboot at 1.02. I tried several times and it's now unlocked, but still S-ON. Then, I try to root it using dozens of methods. Finally, my rom is rooted now with super user inside app drawer. However, I can't flash cwm, or new Roms. My recovery shows system 3e, which always check signature of update.zip when flashing. It was 2e as I remembered.
Maybe I am the first one using the Espresso that face this, anyone has any idea about this. I've read through all the threads here, but no help...:-(
go to adb, then boot into fastboot and type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.1-espresso.img" or whatever cwm u download. then flash any rom and you are good to go. Make sure you paste that cwm.img in the correct folder for your adb. Let me know if it works.
Gonna try it and report soon sir.

It does not matter if the screen shows S-ON. I do not remember how it was after I unlocked my bootloader...
So from what I see you are able to flash a sense ROM with s on and a unlocked boot loader. Can I do this with my droid incredible? Its rooted with cwm and a unlocked boot loader. If so can I use a sense 4.0 ROM? Also I think I have to flash boot.IMG from fast boot right?

If you have cwm installed you can flash any rom made for the incredible.
No you do not need to flash anything from hboot except cwm, which you say you already have.

No it will not hurt anything, you only need root/custom recovery to flash a rom. However i would suggest you think about going s-off, as it can come in handy if something goes wrong. It also allows you to flash recoveries, radios, splash screens, ..., thru hboot.
So then what's the point of s-on?

S-on (Security On) is just a way for htc to lock down the bootloader to stop you from flashing unsigned images and messing up your phone. Along the way enough htc customers expressed the desire to be able to put custom roms on their phones that htc listened and came up with the unlockable bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader however does not turn all bootloader security off, but meerly allows you to flash unsigned recovery and boot images. All other images are still locked and can only be flashed with a signed image from htc. So they let you flash a custom recovery, which in turn allows you to flash roms and kernels. But they still keep important things like the bootloader it self, the misc partition, etc locked so you cant brick your phone. At least not as easily.
So what I'm going to do is make a nand backup then factory reset from cwm then flash a ROM and I shouldn't brick my phone? I thought of the because my HTC inspire 4g(or the HTC desire HD) had a unlocked boot loader and cwm and was able to flash ROMs but I had to fast boot flash the ROMs boot.IMG do you know why I don't have to do it with this phone?

If you are S-OFF that will stay. So you can flash a custom recovery and a rom. You might need to use the PD98IMG way to flash the recovery if you do not have eng s-off

The reason why the downgrade was needed was because, Someone would want to root his or her device without changing the rom. In this case, the loop hole that made rooting possible was closed in the 2.3 update. So if you were to try and root your device with the 2.3 rom, it would fail. In order to achieve the root previllage, you had to downgrade to an android version where the loop hole that allows the phone to be rooted is still available.
But in your case, if you want to flash a custom rom, there is no need to downgrade. All you need to do is flash a recovery by the PD98IMG.zip way.
Or to flash it using the fastboot commands from pc, you could flash an ENG-HBOOT via the PD98IMG.zip in bootloader then use your pc(fastboot commands ) to do whatever you want.
Got it now?
