Missing SDcard space - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So I discovered I was missing about 2GB of space on my internal card. Through some research I found out that it is being taken up by a folder in the /data/ partition called ._cwm_restore
Is it safe to delete this folder? I'm assuming yes since it seems to be a clone of the apps I already have but I want to check. It is also causing mg backups to double in size.

That is your nandroid backups and yes, they will fill up memory very fast (roughly 200-400mb per backup) you can of course delete them but I only recommend it if you have a newer backup incase something goes wrong

That's definitely not the nandroid backup since the backup is stored in /sdcard/clockwork mod/backups. This is stored in /data/data/._cwm_restore so it is actually being backed up with any Nandroid. So if a Nandroid would only be 2GB without that folder, that folder makes it 4Gb

What to NAND backup in Amon 2.3?

I am unsure what options I should choose in the NAND backup section. I usually just leave it on the default (data, system, boot). Backing up only these three will make the ROM to like I had it before correct? Or do I need to select extra options? Thanks
I do em all just to make sure, but would be good to know.

Backing up .android_secure will back up apps that you've moved to the SD card using the built in apps to SD that was introduced in FroYo. Backing up sd-ext will backup your ext partition if you have one. If you don't know what an ext partition is or how to use it, you probably don't have it and don't need to back it up. I have a separate backup of only wimax and don't back it up every time. It isn't something that you need to restore every time, so I'd make a wimax backup once and keep it safe. I can't remember what other options there are, if any. I usually just backup boot, data, and system since I never move apps to my SD card. If they install to my SD card, I move them to internal memory. They run better there, and I've never even come close to running out of internal memory.

I just choose 'perform backup 'at bottom, never had a problem...gets everything I need
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I do everything but cache
Nobody knows for sure?
When doing your firsr backup always do 2 backups. One backup with everything unchecked except WIMAX. You always want to keep this backup incase your 4g ever stops working. After that make a backup with only boot system and data checked. Do this and you will be all set. Also I recommend downloading titanium backup and making a backup of every app that you use on a frequent basis.

Thanks man. And I have a backup of my RSA keys that I got through a root method. It has wimax.img in it. Same thing correct?

Copy ext4 and fat contents between two sd

Goodmorning!
I have two microsd for my Desire.
The first is a 4 gb microsd with 2 partitions: ~ 1 gb ext4 and remaining fat
The second is a 2 gb microsd with 2 partitions: ~ 900 mb ext4 and remaining fat
The first is for daily use, the second for test use.
On the first I have all the data of Cyanogen 7, on the second the data of AOKP ICS.
The question is: can I copy all the files from second to first sd without reflashing ROM?
There will be problems caused by different dimensions?
Thanks for help!
Sorry, duplicate post.

I think best way is to take titanium back of all apps you want to copy from second sd card. Copy the titanium directory from second sdcard to first sdcard using some card reader/PC arrangement. Then when you have booted into CM7 restore the apps that you are interested in.
No, I want to keep my current Rom.
I want only to switch the two sd to increase the space available!
Sent from my Desire using xda app-developers app
Just do a nand backup, copy it to card you want to use, then when you put it in phone go to recovery and do advanced restore - sd-ext only. Don't forget to copy content of .Android_secure folder to new sd.

Do you know what's nand backup? It's backup of all phone partition including sd-ext from recovery.
That backup you have to put on sd after you do partitioning.
I know, I know.
I've asked if a simply copy of the content of the partition is possible.
Sent from my Desire using xda app-developers app
You can if you use linux based system on your pc cause win doesn't recognize ext file system. However, I'm not sure if it will work.
Of course I'm talking about sd-ext. Fat partition can be copied directly.

Sure, I'll use Ubuntu.
I'll try asap and I'll write here what happens.

I had the same issue previously but I wanted to copy a specific app (titanium didn't work), this method should still work though.
How I solved it was to compress a copy of the ext4 partition to tar.gz format from sdcard onto my laptop.
Swapped sdcards on laptop.
Extracted the specific app from the three folders (data, cache, dalvik-cache)
In your case I think u can just extract those 3 folders in their entirety onto your second sdcard.
Reboot and voila!
I was running lubuntu btw.
Hope it works out mate.
Edit: forgot to mention to use a microsd to sd adapter.

Why not simply copy the three files from your sd?
Copy could ignore some hidden files?

Okay... did I misunderstand, or does Link2SD simply not move data?

I'm just not having a lucky day with my Xperia Play.
My system already crashed, leaving a lot of my save data locked in a CWM backup I couldn't break into... and now I've even lost that. So I'm pretty much starting all over with my Xperia Play... and I thought "What better a time than now to give Link2SD a shot?"
Major things that had me interested in this were those times where bastards like Gameloft or Dvide Arts decided it was a good idea to suck 20+MB off our devices in the form of /data/data so that we couldn't get it off our card. And now that I finally went through all the trouble minitool partitions and such... it seems I'm not able to move the application data to that second SD partition.
Am I doing something wrong? I'd really love to just be able to go install crazy without ever having to worry about space again... but if Link2SD can only move the bulk of installation without data, it's just another pointless app to me.
Link2SD doesn't link an app's data, only the apk itself, the lib files, and the dalvik caches
Okay, I made a very, very wrong assertion about Link2SD earlier.
Indeed, it does not move SD data... but moving all those little accumulations of 356KB-5MB to the SD for my other installs is AMAZING. I do still wish I could give Gameloft the middle finger by sending their shady /data/data consumption trickery to the SD, but this is letting me stockpile on apps like nobody's business.
How would you moved things that you have linked to the second partition on a new SD card?

Not sure, but that is a damn fine question as I'm thinking about moving up from 32GB to 64GB.
Yeah, I've just ordered my 64GB. The only thing I can think of is either trying to access the files in the second partition from the computer (then try copy and paste) or removing the link of all the apps and then relinking them with the new micro SD card
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Nandroid backups take a backup of the sd-ext partition, which can be restored to a new SD card as long as the new card is partitioned as well

I'm unfamiliar with that terminology as well, but I do see that the partitioning tool I used (Minitool) has some very clear cut options to clone and copy, given that the new flash drive has unallocated space, so it should be a pretty easy process.
...if I'm right, all we'd have to do is delete the default partition on the 64GB, copy the two SD partitions from the 32GB to the 64GB and (obviously) extend them to take advantage of the larger card.
A nandroid backup is the backup ClockworkMod Recovery takes. Can you access recovery?
Yeah I can, where do you back up from there?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Go into recovery, select "backup and restore", then "backup". I would've thought it was self explanatory. When restoring the sd-ext data, choose advanced restore so you can restore that specific sd-ext data without overwriting any other partitions such as /data or /system
Does that backup the second partition on the SD card as well though? I'm assuming you go into advanced restore to restore it.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
The second partition? That IS sd-ext. The MicroSD card's first partition doesn't get backed up, as it doesn't need to be
Do you restore it in advanced restore?
Edit: seen your above post now. No need to answer this

You delete a backup by going into the SD card, navigating to /clockworkmod/backup/ then selecting the backup's folder and deleting it

Why did my internal storage get wiped?

I have been on Liquidsmooth for a while, and switched to Infamous Lite from Liquidsmooth rc2. After playing around with it I tried to nandroid back to Liquidsmooth rc1 and everything went well, except it seems like my internal storage got wiped along with my Titanium Backup and a lot of other things. Is there any way to recover these things?
If you didn't wipe it, then I'm sure your files are still there. Use a file explorer to look around in your folders.
I am looking around, and I see storage, emulated, sd1, sd0, and all of them have the same files and not the ones that I had on my phone before.
Check the 0 folder?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I checked the emulated folder, sdcard0, sdcard1, usbdisk0, and all of them are the same as the sdcard folder. I know my files need to be somewhere, 1.6GB of my internal storage is being used. I just can't see any of the files :/

This IS the correct answer, it creates a 0 directory, files are there....
Same happen to me. Flash back to a tw rom and they should come back

Yes I flashed touch wiz and they came back and I copied them to my desktop. Should I just wipe internal storage and then copy everything back to my phone to free up that space?

There is a folder called "0" that contains all of your files on certain ROMs. It happened to me too. I wouldn't worry about it too much but if you want to clean it up, go for it.
Yeah I found 0, it does not contain everything unfortunately. If I wipe internal storage does my rom get wiped out too? I think my twrp has a wipe internal button.

If you wipe internal, it deletes everything on the device except the external SD card, yes.
If you do this, I would remove your SD card just to be on the safe side. Things go wrong sometimes as you've unfortunately found out with the data loss.

[Q] Nandroid Backup question

Hi, have made a backup of my current stock ROM and am thinking of trying the Slim Bean 4.3 ROM.
As we know I'll need to do a system wipe before flashing a 4.3 ROM which changes the file structure of the phone and the folder locations.
If I didn't get on with Slimbean would restoring my nandroid backup of stock restore everything as it was including where the folders original were??

Take a separate backup of EFS just to be on the safe side. In fact take more than one, you don't want to lose your IMEI

After system wipe your internal sd card will be formated. So take internalsd and extsd cards backup separate. Nandroid backup will only create backup of you rom and application data. But not internal sd card.
And one thing Nandroid backup also takes efs backup, don't worry about it.

Wiping system doesn't affect /sdcard folder and this is normal. We can't confuse system with user partitions.
