Hey everyone, iv just started using my phone as a multimedia remote when im in bed watching some netflix or something. And the app (Gremote) uses wifi to connect to the gremote server on my pc in order to control it.
Now I know that arc's do seem to have some pretty terrible wifi problems in terms of dropping out etc. This ever really bothered me, until i started to use it as a remote, and now its become a pain....
Is there any 'definitive' way to fix this problem? If not, is there a way for me to connect my phone to wifi through the pc's connection rather than directly to the router? (without the use of cables)
Thanks!
yes it is possible to connect your phone to PC's wifi...i always use that...search for wifi hotspot creator software for PC
Try this http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Misc-Networking-Tools/WiFi-HotSpot-Creator.shtml

Awesome thanks ill take a look! hotspot is the word i was looking for, heard it before, just escaped my mind . Since you use it this way, do you notice any significant improvement on the wifi signal?
Thanks.
Just like to follow up for anyone else that might be wondering, it really does boost the signal, i now have full wifi signal on my Arc S, which is great for using it as a remote since there are no more drop outs causing the mouse to jump all over. Also, just for clarification i used the software called "connectify".
Cheers.

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a way to turn my Hermes into a mobile hotspot. Be rather handy to make my PSP playable online wherever I happen to be sitting, like work for example....
Does anyone know of a way to do this? Internet connect allows me to connect via USB or Bluetooth, but not WiFi, so if there's a workaround or a magical piece of software that will allow this to happen, I'd love to hear about it.
Cheers team
This would be cool.. will also look now for something like this..
from my looking into the same idea it can't be done under windows mobile due to the MS TCP/IP stack.
maybe if linux for the Hermes gets serious then it will work but probably only multi client peer to peer mode rather than ap mode.
please pove me wrong as I think it is a killer app idea for 3G devices like the hermes.
Damn. How does the MS TCP/IP stack prevent it from doing that? I'm not questioning what you say, just wondering what the mechanics are that stop it? I'm realistic about what it could do, in that I'd only be able to connect one device at a time as opposed to it operating as a fully fledged router. I'm surprised this kind of functionality has been overlooked by Microsoft, as I'm sure other people who use WM devices would look for this kind of functionality also, not just people slacking off at work with a PSP or DS
The XDA gurus who figured out the VoIP over 3G or WiFi may have a deeper insight to this.

Yes. It's possible to do this:
Internet<->RAN(3G)<->Bluetooth<->Laptop,etc
But I think the original poster is asking whether this is possible:
Internet<->RAN(3G)<->Wi-Fi<->Laptop, etc
..or at least that's what I would like to be able to do...
Of course
It's possible. So think about an ad-hoc network. PC-PC and internet sharing gets you out to the web.
Same kind of scenario could apply, but the device doesn't necessarily need to be able to complete the routes. The bluetooth PAN network already does this, and if you have 3G, WiFi isn't usually going to be connected to a network that's much faster.
Only problem the family will be upset when you leave the house, if that's a factor for your setup.
The Internet Sharing feature could be leveraged to provide this functionality, but USB and BT are the only ways to connect with the stock application. That would be an excellent basis for this new application, though.

this has been poss for a long time by using a PC to do the DHCP and roting to share a WAN connection from the phone. The question (at least how I read it) is asking about the phone routing and sharing its WAN connection over wifi to one or more clients that may not even be PCs (game devices etc)
can't be done IMHO
This application lets you use your phone as WIFI router without setting up anything in device. Let me if you guys like it.
This application has its own thread here on XDA-Developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357152. Don't really see the point of you posting the CAB here.. without all the information needed.
Well this message, in the wrong place, introduced me to your excellent application!
thank you
How do you turn off this wifirouter?? i got it working and works fine although i cant get my archos gen 5 to pick it up but i tuned it off but my computer still picks it up although it cnt connect to it
the app is connected but i am not connected to the internet on my laptop...any answers? i tried resetting a bunch of times
is it the trial version or the real thing? is there a free way of doing it.. does it work for windows 5
infrastructure mode?
is there a way to broadcast in infrastructure mode, instead of ad hoc? i would love to use a zune hd with this, but it is not able to see ad hoc networks. thanks.
???
the SSID is not showing up in my computer. All others (mine and my neighbors wireless connections) are showing up.
How to get my playstation 3 2 work with this router
Hi i am so damn frusterated right now with this. How do i get my ps3 to work with this router thing. My computer connects to it and recieves wifi. But when i try to find it with my ps3 it wont detect it. Does any one know how do i get this 2 work.
try this
1. connect ur trinity to ur laptop / pc via USB and run "internet sharing" on your trinity.
2. Set up an Ad-Hoc connection on your PC / Laptop and directly connect ur PS3 to it.
3. In network settings on your PC / Laptop click the ad-hoc connection icon and the windows mobile based device icon (Ctrl-Left click each one) right click one of them when their both selected and click on bridge connection from the drop down menu.
this method's a bit of a potch to set up but once its running it works perfectly and you only have to set it up once. it also lets you use the internet on your pc and ps3 at the same time.
I'm pretty late to this and NEW (newbie), but I wanted to make a quick post about it's use on my Imagio winmo 6.5 OS 5.2.21... no mods, no roms burned and this works perfectly. Now I can surf at work without the assistance of our helpful IT friends LOL.

Your laptop or pc picks up adhoc signals aswell as infrastructure, to be quiet honest, this app is very useless when advertised as a router, doesn't route anything if just limited to adhoc, adhoc = computer to computer connections, not a router to me at all! Its a very nice app for many other things though.. I see someone giving you instructions for 'ICS' doing all that just makes it all pointless and you may aswell just get a home router connected to house line!
This is one of my favourite apps. I've been using it for a long time now and just awesome.

Really love this app. Only problem is that it worked great the first time I launched it. Now it can't connect. It just keeps on cycling trying to connect to att gprs and finally says "the remote party has ended this connection". Any ideas?

I think we'll need some more info to be able to help, not entirely sure what you're trying to figure out...
Are you wanting to know if your computer will still be able to connect to your router for internet access when your phone is connected to the computer at the same time with the USB cable?

yes, I think that's exactly what I'm asking...do I need to hook my phone directly up to the router with some kind of adapter, or can I just mess with network settings in windows 7 and get it to work?
Thanks
i think he possibly means use his phones internet for the router. so other computers can connect to the phones internet. not sure. need more info
if thats what you want to do you can use ur phone itself as a router
theres a app you can use heres the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538874

you do know what tethering is right? when you tether you use your phones internet for the computer. so why would you want to tether AND use your internet with the router?
Maybe I'm just asking wrong, just want to be able to use my wireless router like normal, I have my main computer tethered for internet, but I want to use my laptop or xbox to get online like if I had regular internet...

so. to clarify. you dont have regular internet and you want to use your phone just like if you had regular internet? for ALL devices in your house at the same time?
i think it is possible. im not 100% sure. and i dont think you can use your normal router. because your computer would have to act as a dsl/cable modem
i have something that MIGHT work. and i also have win 7. ill try a few things out and see if i can get something to work for you.
ALSO as a side note. i dont recommend using your phone for so many connections because most networks have a 5GB/mo limit. and i dont think it would be best for gaming because of high latency of 3g.
Ok, thanks...I was thinking that about the x-box, that 3g might be too slow, but wanted to try anyway...I do at least want to get my router working though...I did try to call linksys and get support but my router is not covered anymore...
also, what about using that app you recommended...will x-box live recognize that?
ok so i just tried connecting my computer which does not have a wireless card. and my laptop. it can only eeither support multipul wireless connections. or 1 wired connection
the app that i mentioned works well with my laptop it has the same distance as a regular router as far as i can tell.
im not sure if it works with xbox. i see no reason why it shouldnt, but ill try it out.
so basicly you CANT use your router
you can make it all wireless so your laptop xbox any anything else can connect
OR you can have it wired to where only your computer connected
(but i just thought of something you can do that might work so you can use your router. you could possibly bridge your connections imma try it out)
if you figure it out maybe give me some instructions...I really appreciate your help...

Kind of clunky but still may work.
Tether to main PC.
Set Ethernet card on main PC to ICS, Internet connection sharing.
Connect Ethernet card to WAN Port on Router.
You may need a cross-over cable.
Point Router Wan connection to IP address of Ethernet card.
Set router IP internal addresses to something other than 192.168.0.xx, such as 10.0.0.1-xxxxxx or other to avoid double NAT.
All the rest inside the router is the regular router stuff.
Other guy may have come up with a Win7 solution already.
This is how I would start with WinXP.

Kind of needing to know where you are with setup now b4 offering any advice.
PM me and maybe we could set up chat/voice connection.
I use Skype.
ok i followed steps on a few sites all tell basically the same thing but when i do that everything works fine EXCEPT my computer dont want to use the phone as the primary device its still trying to use the Ethernet card
( i tired that on my XP comp)
now with windows 7 there is NO luck whatsoever
it wont even recognize the devices if i want to set it up
so i guess the closing answer is use the WIFI sharing app that i posted a link to and just use that as a router
if there is any app or in depth details on how to set it up please tell. to help him out. and for future reference
there possibly is a way just not with my card/OS if you have any luck let me know

Let WinXP computer be the bridging device. It needs to stay on for ICS to work.
Then Xbox, Win7, and others will be on same network for sharing of files.
is Original Poster still with this?
???
We others have been going around this for a bit.

If a machine could be crafted to connect to WINMO or other device through USB or other port as an internet modem to the machine which acts as a router, how cool would that be?
Hey guys...kind of in a bind. I need to enable my TP2 as a Wifi hub quickly. I am sure that this has been discussed several times but am unable to find my answer in the time that I have. I have tried using the dongle approach but it seems as though the connection wont 'take'...which may be because of a poor/old USB connection on the laptop itself. Either way I know that the laptop has a quality wireless card and would like to make it connect through my phone via a wireless connection. Anyone have a cab or otherwise that can make this work? Thank you in advance for any help.
It is as simple as this
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partner-pub-2900107662879704%3Afs7umqefhnf&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=wifi+sharing&sa=Search
That doesnt really help. It is exactly the listing group that I had found before. Is there a cab file out there that I can install in order to make this happen?
WiFiRouter is the best way to go:
http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
I use it all the time to tether via USB on my laptop. However, I've also used it as a mobile WiFi hotspot. My wife and I can both be on our laptops at the same time.
I've only used it a limited number of times in WiFi mode, but it has worked well when I did. The only issues I had was that the range did not need excessive. If I was more than 20 feet from my phone sign loss started happening. Of course, I live right under a cell phone tower so it may have been due to just lots of interference. Also, you'll burn through your battery pretty quick doing this as well.
There is wifi network, but only 1 device can use it.
Suppose I connect my Galaxy Nexus to that wifi, is it possible to share that to other phones?
I know that I can share 3g connection to other phones via wifi, but is it possible to share wifi via wifi?
It is possible using pc though http://www.virtualwifirouter.com/
uhhh don't think that'd be possible. You can see that if you're on WiFi and try to turn on WiFi Hotspot, it disables your WiFi.
what kinda stupid network are you connecting to that only lets one device connect?
Are you able to allow more connections by changing settings in your router?
bow chicka wow wow.

I've just thought of this off the top of my head so don't blame me if it doesn't work but it would seem feasible if;
1) First phone set to share/tether via bluetooth to 2nd phone
2) 2nd phone turns on Wifi tether
3) other devices connect to 2nd phone.
Let us know if this works as I'm not about to collect all the phones in the house to test this out hahaha.
